I have the Edmunds print out. Guy says he was wanting $5,400. I say will you meet about in middle at $4,700. He says he'll do $5,000, and I say o.k....I'll do $5,000 if there is nothing catastrophic with the Carfax I want to run. He says o.k. Deal.

So....is it over? Is the year long (on again, off again) search really over?

Forgot to leave a deposit. Call and guy says dont worry about, I trust you all are good people, just let him know soon. O.k I say the only thing that would prevent me from buying the car is if has a poor Carfax.

So Shifty, if you're there, can you run a VIN for me?

I can, but I will need a VIN number to do it

CARFAX looks pretty good. Mostly what we like to see. No accidents, good service records at reasonable mileages. Car moved from Indiana where it lived most of its life, so I'd check for rust issues underneath. There's an open recall for passenger air bag but any Ford dealer can handle that for you. So, no red flags here.

O.k, I can tell owner Carfax looked o.k, but there was one more thing I needed to check for...on that rust. A pinch of rust in the engine compartment. Didn't really see anything underneath the car, but I'm wanting to check again.

People seemed to like them, ran well, lots of room, pretty reliable, but that rear quarter window line that comes down on a sharp angle is a little weird.

It sounds like the guy didn't have too many beating down his door, or I doubt he would let it drag on.

Are you able to tell where in Indiana it was before Louisville became home? I'd think being in the southern half of Indiana would be a different experience for rust than being in the northern half of Indiana. Are you able to tell from the service records which part of Indiana?

After all Louisville is adjacent to Indiana...

I like that aspect, our is 11 years old, looks as good as new, we don't do much for it....wipe with Lysol or Fantastic stuff. Haven't done any of the yearly coatings etc...whatever happens happens. I don't like the spotty look, would prefer a more solid color.

Yeah, that's what we were trying to do today. Couldn't get er done. To more is Easter. So looking to wrap it up Monday or Tuesday.

imidazo197- The owner said they were originally from South Bend, Indiana, about as far north as you can get.

Spent app 2 hours in & around a relatives 2017 Tesla. Garage door programming was straight forward. A 225 mile up grade South Lake Tahoe trip needed a super charge app 3/4 up, for one hour. Electrical consumption was 2x more up to 7,380 ft. Down grade added some electricity back.

Traveled about 150 miles each way yesterday to go to Easter dinner....took 2 1/4 hours each way. It was miserable and wet, dreary day. Went by 2 electric charging stations on the way......there are ~~pumps~~ places for about 50 cars to charge at any time. I didn't see one car charging, and I didn't notice any EV vehicles traveling that route. There are supposed to be 20 charging stations between Detroit and Montreal along highway 401.

I wouldn't want to be driving an EV on a wet day, temperature about 40F, and try to go about 300 miles return trip.

Sounds like those pushing to force EVs as the savior of the planet have overdone it?
Whose brother-in-law was it that got the contract for the charging stations? LOL

I'll check the area EV charging location this even to see if anyone is using the electricity generated at the coal-fired plants along the Ohio River that powers the stations. If they eat at the adjacent Chipotle while charging they'll be disappointed: it's one of the worst Chipotles I've even eaten at.

Happy Easter! Take a break from that honey ham and deviled eggs for a minute. How would you guys handle a private party sale? The other day the owner spoke of us paying him and he would then sign over the title..Is this safe?. Last.time I bought a private.party car we met at my bank. Answer please...then resume with the baked beans and.potato salad.

Last private party sale I did was my SAAB. Brought cash and did the transaction in the living room of the seller’s house. I also wrote up a bill of sale which we both signed before exchanging cash and then signing the title to me.

Go with your gut.

I forget.....did you actually take the car out for a test drive? I have seen Hot Bench shows where the car was driven slowly around the block, then didn't make it home once on the highway. I think it would be reasonable to take it on a really good test run before buying....if you haven't done that...like I say I forget what happened during the showing.

I agree with firefighter.........get a bill of sale, you may need that to register and pay tax. If they say "sold as is" on the bill of sale it will be hard to undo the sale. I wonder who is the actual owner....the TV lady or the guy?

Long ago when I bought from a private party I did it at the bank. When I sold it was done for cash at my house. If you are a member of AAA you could do it there and get the title and plates work done since you will already be there.

Somebody mentioned the new Hyundai Venue a while ago. I got to sit in one yesterday and if confirms my suspicion that it is a Kia Soul knock off. Similar seats, all dimensions within an inch of those of the Soul and as mentioned before, identical engine/transmission choice.

What differences I did notice were a more sloping A pillar and a different dash. Interior was very similar. Base price almost identical.

If you’re looking for a more sporty appearance the Venue might be the better looking choice.

While I was at the show I bought a rafffle ticket for this:

They were raising money for MS research and since my SIL has the disease I thought I could do good and maybe do well.

It’s been over40 years since I was in NYC so excuse the tourist picture taken from in front of the Javitts center.

As we walked to dinner we passed several plumbing supply stores. I was hoping I’d see NYcarguy standing out front but no luck. Say, he hasn’t been here for awhile.

Are you afraid that pretty young news anchor won’t be able to contain herself once she sees you in person?

Every PP sale I’ve ever done was in a kitchen or on the hood of the car. You want the owner to sign the title in front of you to eliminate a curbstorner with a pre-signed title.

If you fear an ambush bring some muscle. When I bought the Mercury I brought along a double black belt martial artist in case the 90 year old woman tried some rough stuff.

The convertible was in a kitchen because it was raining. The MarkVIII was in a school parking lot. The cargo van was delivered to my driveway.

On the bill of sale, I believe that's suppose to be notarized, or recommended? If I remember correctly, last guy I bought private party had us meet at my bank, bank cut him a check, filled out a bill of sale, notarized, filled out title, title and keys handed to me, I then transferred car into my name at the county clerks office. I think that's how it went down. I trust the guy, but you never know.

Hyundai/Kia do a good job of making their identical cars look a little different....smart marketing!
Good luck with the raffle ticket for the Vette. IMHO, I think the Vette is kind of ugly, though I know that is the kind of image they are looking for.....the mean bad boy look.
I would prefer to win a 1964 model;

Supposedly the Venue is based on the Accent Hatchback...but the Accent may be based on the Soul I guess.

You might want to check your specific states’ laws, but it is not required (In CA, NV, OR, WA, ID,) that I’m familiar with. It is purely for the sellers protection.

When VW bought back two of my cars they required it. Normally when there’s no immediate cash, certified check or account transfer, I normally get worried. But with VW, MEH.

Doing the paperwork at the bank is probably a good idea. Will you have insurance in place before driving to the county clerk?
I always wonder how those on the scene reporters get paid and how many hours they work. Most stations have a few of them and each one seems to do about one 1 or 2 minute story a day. Do they get paid by the story, by the hour and what do they do the rest of the day. I like the ones that have to report during a tornado or something and they are getting blown around and can hardly stand up.

Yes, I took car on test drive for about 20-25 minutes, about 15 minutes on the expressway. Drove well.

On the bill of sale, I believe that's suppose to be notarized, or recommended? If I remember correctly, last guy I bought private party had us meet at my bank, bank cut him a check, filled out a bill of sale, notarized, filled out title, title and keys handed to me, I then transferred car into my name at the county clerks office. I think that's how it went down. I trust the guy, but you never know.

In NY I’ve never needed a bill of sale to register a car. The title is enough, even an out of state title. A bill of sale alone wouldn’t be accepted except on antiques maybe. Is it different in your state? I would think a bill of sale would only be relevant if there were other considerations besides a simple change of ownership.

Supposedly the Venue is based on the Accent Hatchback...but the Accent may be based on the Soul I guess.

I think the Accent predates the Soul. I’ve had trouble figuring out how Hyundai/Kia designate platforms. GM was easy by comparison.

That raffle-prize Corvette looks nice.

We had a discussion at lunch this week that nobody knew the answer to. With the new mid-engine Corvette due to bow in July, is that the end of the line for this version? If so it would be the last of the front-engine models, at least for a while, and might be worth getting one to hold on to. Nobody knew how much more the mid-engine version would cost either but we all assumed it would be significantly more than the current one. None of us were sure we liked the idea of it going mid-engine and moving into supercar territory.

The bill of sale is a good idea just to summarize the transaction. It lists the selling price which may be useful if you have to pay tax on the purchase, may be useful in case of a lawsuit. It gives the seller a chance to say "sold as is". It cements what the deal was and how much was actually paid, none of that appears on the ownership. Signatures can be forged, a bill of sale makes that difficult since both parties will have a copy. Nothing to lose by doing it, could be protection for one of the parties.

I read somewhere that they will make two versions for the foreseeable future. The front engine model will be the base car and the mid engine will be the upscale at a considerably higher price.
