The husband went through a '99 Outback, '01 Outback and he too has an '02 GT wagon. The husband is almost as bad. :-)

The dealer's probably sold more cars to them than their total customer base.

Edit: I must be doing something wrong. I've had a total of 7 cars in 25 years!! Had the last one ('96 Outback) for 6 1/2 years and 128k miles.

She could just be a psycho, and not own any subies at all. That's possible.

She and her husband are too busy shopping for the next car. :-) (That may not be stretching the truth)

wife? - car? - wife? - car? - wife? - car? hmmm, new wife every 4 months?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Funny Pat. I now remember, but that was back when she had the Bean and went shopping for the GT! It's funny, I encouraged her to make that swap.

But I would have suggested waiting for the 2005 Legacy vs. moving down in size like she did.

Sounds like that won't a problem, question is will she hold the WRX that long? :-)

I think it's great, she's boosting sales and putting plenty of nice used Subies out there for the rest of us.

That was a fine howdy-do, as my Dad used to jokingly say, and I appreciate all your welcoming words.

To give you a little more family insight, one of my main reasons for choosing a Subaru was based upon one of my sister's experience with her 2001 Outback. An experienced ER RN, she had driven a Ranger for years, until she was cut off by some clueless driver, flipped over, and spent an hour hanging trapped upside down until the FD appeared with the "jaws of life" to cut her out. Thankfully, she had only soft tissue injuries! She loves her Outback and it gave me a new appreciation for Subarus with their low center of gravity, the natural course of which expressed itself in my purchase.

I attended Wabash College and the University of Illinois for u-grad, and then USFrancisco for law school, but the ONLY decal I'm putting on that window is a Wabash one! (Well, I just might have to put a Sigma Chi decal on there too ...)

I've been watching the other posts about speakers with interest and may spring for enhanced main speakers if the tweeters don't give me what I want to hear. As far as performance goes, are there any modifications people have made to the engine that would increase its performance? I've seen some quasi-bogus devices out there, one called "The Tornado," which purport to swirl the air input, making it faster and theoretically increasing the power. Anyone have any experience with these? Sounds a bit too easy, although I understand the physics behind it, and I don't want to do anything to mess up the engine. Still, though, those 3K+ RPMs over 75 mph do concern me. Should I be?

Finally, I live in SF now, but am moving to SDiego by the end of May. Can't wait! The long haul down I-5 will probably occur while I'm still below the 1K mileage mark, if not below 500 miles, and I don't want to damage the engine by that drive, so does anyone have any recommendations on preventive tactics?

Thanks again for the warm welcome and I look forward to learning from and working with you!

Am I ever royally pissed right now, I left my baby in the last space, and nipped into the shopping centre, when I came out the light was shining just right to show up a bloody door puck about 3" long high up on the drivers quarter panel.

The only saving grace is there is no broken paint so I will be calling the dent guys in the morning, do not know when it happened but it was not on this run.

I pray just once lord let me catch the careless jerk that does this, I can guarantee that they would be extra careful for the rest of their life.

      Cheers Pat.

Dave, go Sens go, they ran over Philly in the last two games 5-2 and then 5-1 to take the series.

     Cheers Pat.

Ouch! I know the feeling. Hope it comes out easy. Those dent guys can work miracles, so you should be OK.

I am finding dings high on both the OB and the Sienna. Only one type of vehicle will give dings that high. Sorry to hear about yours.

    hi to Mike, welcome!

Pat- I saw the Return Of Heather over there but this time just kept my head down. I'm allergic to exclamation points anyway.

I think you will this a pretty good place to hang out and talk Subaruese. A number of us have been here several years. We're either too stupid to leave, or are caught in some sort of strange Cyber-trance... Whatever the reason, it's fun. :)

pat, I've got a ding too on my driver's door of the M3. because the rest of the door is utterly dent-free and the car is black, I can really see it.

I'm about to take it in for PDR too.

If the Tornado worked as well as they say, then manufacturers would build it into their intakes! :)

Yeah, Philly didn't show up; you gotta show up to win. Go Sens! :-)

Good Luck with the dent removal. Bummer.

Cinco de Mayo reminds me - our Legacy just celebrated her first birthday! :-)

I asked the wife if she's willing to keep it for 6 more years, the length of our Subaru Gold Warranty, and she answered "just six?"

One of our contractors is looking for a network techie, with experience working with network switches and routers (Cisco stuff). I think Stephen was still looking, if that's your field. E-mail me to let me know.

How is this Subaru related? Well, you'll be expected to come in even in the snow if there is a network problem.

Pat: bummer. That's why I support capital punishment! ;-)

Yeah the dent is high up on the quarter, so I figure the rear door of a SUV,one more reason to hate those suckers.

Colin- yeah a door ding really stands out on black, have arranged to have it repaired Thursday, I am just about to go out and remove the inside trim panel to make it easy to get to the dent.

Loosh- Heather gives a whole new meaning to the term dizzy broad:-)

juice Lana obviously likes her Legacy.

      Cheers Pat.

It's funny, she doesn't want me to get a Forester XT, she'd rather exchange the Miata for a newer (still used) model and wait for the 2005 SUW.

I still haven't taught her how to pack lightly!

OK, folks, it's time to get those testimonials written. I'm asking the Crew to write a letter supporting Patti's return to the Subaru Crew as a regular member with full support from SoA.

Please write letters, sign them, then send them to me by snail mail (e-mail me and I'll give you my mailing address). I will write a cover letter (with some help from Bob and maybe others) and attach all the testimonials, then submit them to SoA.

I will offer some basic guidelines:

    * please sign the letters
    * mention your handle on Edmunds.com
    * keep the tone positive, constructive
    * no threats of boycotts, nothing like that
    * focus on why Patti is a great Crew member
    * if you have a personal story, please share it
    * list the Subarus you own or have owned

If you'd like to suggest other guidelines, please do. But the key is to keep it positive. I think written and signed letters will get more attention than e-mail, so let's do hard copies.

Those who want to participate in the "Bring Patti Back" campaign, please submit two signed testimonials please, as we have the names of two key SOA people who went want to send this to.

    Thanks! :)

is there was a contingent of us, here and on nabisco, that advised her from the beginning that the WRX was what she really wanted, and she swore she test drove it and that it wasn't as fast as her OB and didn't handle very well. That was when I gave up and stopped listening.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Thanks for the suppport, guys, I've had about 8 people contact me for my address already. Keep 'em coming! I'd like to get maybe a dozen or so letters before I send it in to SoA.

Please, please write those letters! We're gonna get her back! :-)

Just playing devil's advocate here, but does anyone know if Patti herself wants to be back on the Crew with us? While I believe she enjoys being here, are we making an assumptive close?

In any event, she deserves all those testimonials commending her for what she's done here.

    Ken
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
At a minimum it should be offered to her.

I've probably been in closest contact with her, and have absolutely no reason to believe she didn't enjoy being here.

So yes, I'm pretty certain she does.

Check your E-mail, sent you a copy of the letter for Patti, I have sent two copies by snail mail, don't know when you will get them.

I do know any time either my daughter or myself use snail mail between the two countries it always takes about two weeks, the mailman must be crawling on his hands and knees over broken glass between here and Texas it takes so long:-)

      Cheers Pat.

mail from Wisconsin headed your way Juice. 2 copies included in it. I bet mine beat Pat's snail mailed ones ;-)

Bob wins the prize. He got the letter out the same day, and I got the next day. He even sent a revised letter, and it too arrived within a day.

Bob's mail man is amazing. He gets all his car mags a couple of days before everyone else.

Mine reads my car mags, but luckily not the letters you guys are sending!

Sorry about being MIA for a while. We took a spur of the moment roadtrip to Colorado to see the sis-in-law. Great trip, 3k miles or so, 2 lane again (love that HWY 50), averaged 28MPG (again), 40k on the 01 GT wagon and no problems at all... just a great comfortable ride.

So what's up with Patti? Been breezing through all the posts and see she is no longer participating here? That is a bummer. She was so instrumental in resolving a problem for me with my dealer (not directly SOA but a screw-up by the dealer). Way beyond the call of duty and admirable that a manufacturer would be so responsive. It was a great experience and one that elevated SOA even higher on the list. The result of which was my actively promoting Subarus to everyone I know. BTW - my sis and cousin both just purchased OBs.

Anyway... good to see you all here and welcome to the new members.

My daughter, who just finished here sophomore year at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, just got accepted into the University of Maryland's Nursing School.

She was also accepted at UNCW's nursing school, which has a so-so nursing program. She applied to Maryland late and was put on the waiting list, and we didn't expect her to get in for the fall semester, or even find out until late in July.

We just got the acceptence letter from the U. of Maryland about a 1/2 hour ago, and my daughter doesn't even know yet—and here I'm broadcasting this on the net, no less! We haven't been able to contact her yet!

I've been told that the University of Maryland's Nursing School is ranked around 4th in the nation. So instead of a 7-hour drive to Wilmington, NC, we will now have a 40-minute drive to Baltimore.

What a great way to start off the Mother's Day weekend!

    Bob
