thanks, juice. mine should hold out pretty well then, as the sf bay area can definitely be classified as light use.

as for the engine oil, i just changed that after the first 3k out of habit.

Kate, where was that photo taken? Is it Tahoe?

So, even if Kate was high-centered, why didn't the rear driver's side tire spin because of the LSD?

Am I royally ticked tonight, left Mac at the groomers this morning, now he usually gets walked before I pick him up, but today he obviously did not get walked, just as we turned into our street the neighbour's dog was out so Mac started bouncing around in the car barking.

Well an exited dog with a full bladder = dog whizz all over the seat, now I love that little dog to death but today I came close to gutting him, there is nothing worse to get rid of than the smell of dog pee, so if any of you guys have good remedies for smells lets have them.

      Cheers Pat.

"there is nothing worse to get rid of than the smell of dog pee"

you've never tried to transport a cat, I see.

    Blech.
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Don't and won't own a cat, allergic to them, even a dog has to be non allergenic, not OCD overload, had the same thing happen in another car with our last dog and it took months to get rid of the damn smell.

    Pat,

If the Legacy is like the Impreza the rear seat should be totally removable and consist of two pieces of foam weighing like 5 pounds each.

Take the seats out and spray with water and anything that isn't petroleum based of your choice. I'd try a strong scented dishsoap perhaps.

Let dry one full day... viola

It is the right front passenger seat that got it, we only had to go about one block so I let him in the front, If I cannot get it out quickly I might just resort to that, there is a detail shop here that guarantees to get the smell out.

I may just take the seat out and leave them to it.Funny in a way, this is the first accident this little dog has had he was the easiest housetrained dog ever.

      Cheers Pat.

Bummer! But Loosh is right, cat urine has got to be one of the most powerful odors known to man and there's nothing you can do to remove it. Had an apartment once where the previous owner had a cat. Two steam cleanings of the carpet couldn't get rid of the smell. Ended up having to replace the carpet.

P.S. Of course I fit the Subaru profile by preferring dogs!

Get to a pet store and purchase a gallon of Nature's Miracle. Follow the directions for upholstery. This stuff really works.

You have no idea how many times Lance the Lizard has been stalked, threatened, and harrassed by the four frustrated felines. So far it hasn't seemed to affect him much. I think he rather enjoys sticking his tongue out at the four kitty noses pressed against the aquarium. :-)

Steam Cleaner, maybe? The ones that put out steam and then work like wet vacs to pick up the moisture. Maybe baking soda to absorb the smell? Just some ideas.

I have a Bissell little green cleaner. Cost $89. Has a handle, is portable, and has 2 upholstery brushes. Works great on seats and rugs.

I don't have a dog, but I do have an 8 year old boy and an Outback with a light tan cloth interior, so I know it works!

Is the way to go....you gotta be able to suck the stuff back out as soon as it dissolves the dried urine, etc. I have left my shop vac, with the upholstery attachment, sucking away at the wet seat all afternoon while I did other things. That way, you dont worry about using lots of soapy water and rinsing thoroughly...because you suck the stinky stuff out with all the water rather than having it dry in place.

    Good luck!

The deal with this stuff is that you need to somewhat saturate the material with this liquid and let it naturally dry so that it can eliminate the odor(s) enzymatically.

It is not a quick process but it is effective to our nose and especially the dogs nose. Dogs tend to re-mark territory that has been marked before, and I would definitely want to discourage a repeat of this behavior in your car.

Removing the seat and letting it air out in an open space (garage) during this process may be a good idea.

Oh, and send him to the cargo area from now on, harnessed to one of the tie-downs, and on the rubber liner they sell aftermarket. :-)

For all the suggestions, Karen I will look for that natures miracle today, as a last resort it will go to the detail shop.

      Cheers Pat.
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
    After trying several places I
found the natures miracle and picked some up, gave the seat a liberal dose so we will see.

      Thanks again.

    (only slightly tongue-in-cheek here, but...)
Is there such a thing as doggie diapers?

I know, it's after the fact, but still... :)

    Cheers!

Rangers just traded Leech. I am quite upset about this. This comes on the heels of them trading Nedved and Kovalev. I think Sather needs to go.

BTW - I typically couldn't care less about major sports figures, but this seemed to hit home. :(
To keep on topic, Leech went to Toronto where he will need a Subaru.

Sather needed to go a long time ago, just as the Rangers needed changes a long time ago. So I fully expect after he's done cleaning house he will himself be cleaned.

Not sure but I don't think I will them this little dog never ever does stuff like this, wasn't his fault he just was not walked.

      Cheers Pat.
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Not defending Sather here, he should have been gone a long time ago, a lot of the problems there can be laid directly at the players feet.

On paper with the talent that the Rangers had they should been a shoein for the playoffs every year if not the cup.

You hear every excuse in the book not only from the Rangers but from other teams as well, oh we will just have to do this and do that, well if you don't turn up for work in the real world you don't get paid.

Maybe if they started telling these superstars if you don't turn up to work you don't get paid things might be different, doesn't matter if they stink on the ice the pay is the same.

      Cheers Pat.

I guess my Outback was one of the early VIN's (that makes sense, we got it in July '00) as I got my paper letter today for the coolant additive.

Latest email from Subaru is another Outback email, web url is: http://content.subaru.com/mailings/3_0421z

Well, the computer at work doesn't have Java and is set to not accept it for some reason so now that I've remembered on the correct night at the correct time I can't get into chat. Oh well, maybe next week when I'm off early on Thurs. evening.
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
From sun's website, I had to do that here.

    How'd the enzymes work, Pat?

Nice review, no unscheduled stops. And that's not even the sought-after XT model. They didn't even mind HAL (climate control) and really liked the leather.

The seat is still damp, with the temperature I expect it will take a couple of days to dry.

They recommended a good soaking to be sure to get it into the foam, it will be hard to say until it completely dries but for sure the smell is not as strong as it was.

      Cheers Pat.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Give it time to work. If it stays damp, stick a de-humidifier inside the car overnight.

note to the others: we all know he'll do it, too! :o)

    Pat-
hope you got all the windows down. Wouldn't want to coop up the moisture and have it absorb into the other seats.

way ahead of you, juice LOL. I have an in car heater running, doesn't help with the hydro bill but the seat is drying nicely. And from the nose test close to the seat it appears to be smell free as well.

      Cheers pat.

at the bottom of this page you'll see a you are here: section. It should have Town Hall - Owners Clubs - Subaru Crew. Either click on Owners Clubs or Subaru Crew. From Owners Clubs you'll see all the other clubs as well as the Subaru Crew. Bookmark either link.

Or Subscribe to the topics you want and Read Subscriptions or use the Message Center. I have all the threads I watch in my Message Center and read 'em that way. :)

I bookmark "All Subaru Discussions," and the "All" isn't available at the bottom of the page. I alos had the same problem with the spellcheck as Pat.

no problems here, but I'm only checking in now, almost 1 hour after Brenda's post #19297. Maybe they had a hiccup with the hamsters running the servers ;-)

Message Center seems to be working ok, as does browsing the Subaru Crew link from within the Owner's Clubs link. *shrug*

http://help.edmunds.com/cgi-bin/edmunds.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.p- hp?p_cat_lvl1=65 - that's the help page you can try if you still have issues.

I've been having issues with logging into TownHall, where I have to click several times on Message Center or Read Subscriptions to be able to get a page to load. Today it's working flawlessly. Not sure what is going on.

I'd try closing all your browsers and flushing the internet caches. Then try TownHall again. This is the link I use to enter TownHall: http://www.edmunds.com/apps/townhall/welcome.jsp I have autologin enabled as well.
