2005 MDX AWD with only 84k miles, silver with black interior Maryland/Northern VA area. Non smoker, no accidents, 1 owner. Any ideas what trade-in should be on this? Thanks!
About $3k-3500 for non-Touring
What do you think private party?
If tires and brakes are good, shine it up real nice and list it for $7495. Probably see $6k on it easily.
Ok that is exactly what I was thinking. Thought trade in would be closer to $5k though.
Looking for trade in value/ private party sale. I live a few hours from a Carmax but online Carvana quoted me a little over 10k.
2015 Honda Civic EX Coupe manual, 28k miles, no accidents but had to have passenger mirror and door panel replaced (shows up as damage reported on Carfax report). No damage to exterior minus the one time I drove on asphalt that wasn't dry and it shows on the inside of the wheel well.
I still owe 8k on the loan, would this make a private party sale difficult?
Trade in with the carfax report would not be good. Probably $9k-$10k, depending on dealer.
My gut says list it for $12,995 and you’ll get a lot of interest. Take $12k for it when given the chance.
As for your loan, you have a couple of options. Come up with the money (beg borrow steal) and get the title in hand OR meet the buyer at their bank and they will take care of paying the loan and giving you a check for the balance.

2009 Honda Accord Coupe V6 -- I'm guessing EX-L due to leather and sunroof, but it doesn't say.
Looks rather clean for a Michigan car, some chips in the paint but good otherwise.
Red over black leather, alloys, ok tires. 110k. Not much else known.
So it's an eleven-year-old car in the rust belt, but it's a Honda and it looks righteous. No asking price on it. I'm going to guess mid-to-high $3s across the block, and $6,900 asking at Friendly Sam's your-job-is-your-credit, but I"m just an amateur.

pretty close. About $4k at the block. Unless it is a handshaker. I can't keep track of which years they offered that with the V6. Probably still a good $1k hit for the manual.

I did some poking around on cars.com -- asking prices are into the $9s with ~100k miles. CRAZY. But the $4 at the auction is not unreasonable at all for a nice one.
This car lot is a bit different; the guy pretty much does "my cost + X" for his prices, and usually comes in well below the competition. He tells me that a lot of his cars go to BHPH lots for more or less his asking price. I believe it.
He's got a remarkably clean black no-sunroof 2002 BMW 325i sitting next to the Honda. It's a stick and it looks OK from underneath. No price on that one either, but it's too old for my taste if it's local. BMW winter beater, anyone?

I’d like to get an idea of trade in value on a 2012 Chevy Equinox 2LT. Silver ext/Black interior. FWD, auto, 53k miles. Original brakes, tires, etc. Vehicle was in accident/hit as a parked car, CARFAX shows no accidents. Purchased about 5 years ago from a local CarMax, so could take it there, or trade in at Chevy dealer when I buy a new Equinox. Hadn’t considered Carvana. Thoughts on easiest option or best dollar?
shop them all, see what they offer. Trading in at dealer has advantage, in some states (oh, need to know where you are located too for a good estimate) you get a sales tax credit. Plus it is the simplest option.

About $4k at the block.
..and it now has a price on it: $5,500. Which is why I like the place. That's not going to hurt anyone.
A friend is thinking about checking out the 2005 Honda Element that's been sitting on the same lot for a couple of weeks. Also red, remarkably clean for a 15-year-old car, rips in the driver's seat that need a good seat cover or reupholstery, but otherwise in very nice shape. Nice enough I'm wondering if it isn't some sort of import. In a univesity town, that happens quite a bit, especially for cars traded at the VW/Subaru dealer.
It's an automatic AWD, miles unknown, asking $3,850. Those are sought after for some weird reason, so I'm surprised it hasn't sold yet.
posted this in a different forum and got a recommendation to try and post it here as well - i'll appreciate any advise
Long story short - leased a 2017 Audi A4 Premium in 08/2016 for 36 month, 15K miles a year under certain assumptions. 2 months after leasing the car, my company moved my office from the original spot that was ~1 hour from my house (when driving on highways), to a 5 (!) minutes drive away from my house (no complains!).
End result is - i am finishing my lease this month with only 10K miles on the car and perfect mechanical/exterior condition instead of with ~45k…
The buying price of the car is ~24K (~26K with tax & dmv, etc.) , which to my surprise, is due to a 57% residual value (somehow i assumed it will be much lower for Audi A4 with theoretical 15k/year miles).
Checked caravana/vroom/etc. and they all offer ~1k less then the buying price (even worse with taxes), so a buy and sell to those companies doesn’t make sense.
My dealership agents (2 different agents) tell me i can’t go wrong with buying it (“it’s basically a new car”), and don’t even try to offer a new Audi lease (“your ending lease was too good and we can’t get even close to it”). But if it’s such a perfect deal, why don’t i get better offers from caravana/vroom etc…?
Question is - i am not “married” to Audi and have no problem to switch to a different brand - so do you, the experts of the used car world, think this price is a really good deal and i should buy the car at the current condition/price, or if it's not that attractive, just return it and get into a new leasing deal?
If buying is the recommended option - is the buying price negotiable (never did it before), or completely fixed…?
buyout is not normally negotiable. But the bigger question is, do you want to keep the car for a long time (which you should if you buy it out?) If not, turn it in, unless the expert here says it is way under market, which it probably isn't.
also, Carvana and Vroom are buying at wholesale, and we list it to sell at ~$3,000 higher, so that is what you should compare the buy out price (retail) to.
This brings up a good question: How about offering the dealer where you turn it in $X for the car. At least with the domstics, dealers usually have dibs on lease returns; if he can make enough money, why wouldn't he turn around and sell it?
I ain't payin' $13,800 for a two-year-old Cruze with 20k miles... which is my buyout.. but I may offer $11 or $12 if the mood moves me. Has anybody done this?
Auction value for that A4 with those miles is mid $22ks.
Good info, but what would a dealer mark it up to? $30K? Or? The price of a new 2019 Audi A4 Premium starts at $42K. Getting a 2017 with only 10K miles for $24K sounds like a deal to me (for a consumer)--the car sounds barely broken in. And how hard would it be to find a 2 y.o. A4 with 10K miles?
And could the OP pay cash? To me, it'd be great not to keep paying lease payments.....

Let’s assume since the OP leased, that he’s (or she’s) not a cash buyer. Dealers are notorious for trying to see what sticks when it comes to these low mileage cream puffs. I’m sure they will ask something like $29,999 at first, then lower it $1,500 after 30 days on the lot.
Even with the 10K miles for $24K, the OP will still have to make payments on a depreciating asset. It sounds like they are more interested in the car “on the cheap” rather than the car itself. Turn it in and move on to the next lease. Some of these companies have leases with 7,500 miles per year.

About $7500-$8k for a 4-cyl. Somehow, a v6 is a $500 deduct.
Kudos on this estimate! Carvana made an offer of $7,826. The Carvana offer will give me some confidence on the value when I go in to Chevy looking for a replacement.

Depends on the dealer and what they do with it. Let’s say they buy one at auction for $22.5k. Gotta pay transport, fees, detailing, and advertising. Now maybe it owes them $23.25-23.5k. If not an Audi dealer, he/she would most likely price it at $27,495, give or take, and hold tight for 30-60 days before letting someone brow beat them down to $26k. An Audi dealer, OTOH, may want to CPO the unit. So they’ll be into it for more like that $26k number and ask $30k or more.

Deal isn’t final yet and what matters is the difference, but looking like $1k back of invoice on the CR-V, $14k for the Miata and $21k for the Ridgeline. They structured it differently and are showing $15k for the Miata and invoice on the CR-V. I don’t really care though.

2013 Mazda Miata Grand Touring
Silver
6 speed manual
17k miles
Very good condition
2014 Honda Ridgeline RTL
White
Automatic
55k miles
Good condition but loved
Both in the Seattle area.
On a trade, figure right about $14k on the Miata, which will start dropping drastically come Fall. The Ridge about $21k-$21.5k.
