Everyone gets a different rate, $10 a month, $5 a month, $45 a year! That alone bothers me.

the business model leaves something to be desired. I don't pay much attention to that, other than when it is renewal time and I have to deal with them for a few minutes. I focus on the product, which adds value to my life.

I wonder if they would make more money overall just going to a flat rate model and stop all the shell games. Might add enough users to make it worthwhile. Plus they could fire 3/4 of their call center staff!

We've given up on Sirius / XM in both the MINI and the Subaru. I've got 2500+ songs on my iPhone, so I can plug that in when necessary.

Same. I’m done paying for it.
When I was delivering pizzas, it was nice to have, but once that side gig stopped, and I wasn't driving as much, there wasn't a need to have it.

Now, I don't really even have a car of my own. Wife and I share the Outback, but mainly it's mine, as she rides with the daughter in the MINI.
Prior to the availability of streaming I felt the same way, just not in the car enough to justify having it regardless of price. Now we can listen via our phones or through the Amazon Echo speakers in the house. As long as I get the $99/year deal or less I'll keep a subscription.

Also I stupidly realized by streaming it on my phone I can just stream through the BT in the truck so no need for a 2nd subscription

Yes, but at least planes it depends on how far in advance you book, how full the plane is, the dates, etc. With this everyone is buying the same service. Do people who buy Netflix get different rates?

Pens, I thought of that too. when the next renewal comes up, if the wife's car has a plan that includes streaming, I might let it go and run off the phone in my car.

Isn't everyone flying from Toronto to Miami (for example) getting the same service? I'll bet of the 150-200 people on the plane, less than 10% of them paid the same price for the ticket.

Load capacity - it works with airlines, with hotels, and now, with seemingly every other subscription service that is available now. Charge what the market will bear - some will pay more, some less.

one difference with XM, or Netflix, vs. hotel or planes. The marginal cost of more people is basically zero. Add 100,000 subscribers? Free money! Can't do that with plane seats or hotel rooms.

This morning, I called Sirius/XM since my 6 month subscription was about to expire next week. Before she had a chance to tell me about the available plans, I merely told her, "...if you can renew my subscription for another 6 months at the same $45.01 tax and fees included, I will renew my subscription. If you can't, just cancel my service effective next week when it expires." She merely asked me why only 6 months and why not a year. I explained that I rarely, if every, listen to satellite radio. So if I didn't have it in the car, I wouldn't miss it. So, she relented and extended my subscription for another 6 months at the above fee. It will be charged to my account at the conclusion of this subscription.

Now, that was the easiest subscription renewal I have ever experienced with Sirius/XM radio. Smooth as silk. It's about time!

I suppose if you like playing renewal roulette that is OK. Not for me though.
Sirius has been bombarding me with mail circulars and yesterday I noticed that they had turned the service back on which expired in June. Nothing on there that’s worth paying for. No sale.

Just came back from driving an Outback from the auction. Subie won’t sell them directly to us so we buy them used. Nice ride and plenty of power compared to the Crosstrec but the electronic nannies are a pain. Bindspot was ok but the lane monitor was annoying. I didn’t even use the cruise control because it looked like that Toyota radar system which I hate. Interior was very upscale.

So you plan on plowing an acre at 200mph and then have it break down?

Speaking of break downs, what’s the timing belt change interval on your 4cyl Sebring? I have an earlier version 2.4L in the PT Cruiser and it calls for replacement at 105k. I hear that you have to pull the engine to do it. If yours has gone over 137k without replacement that would be encouraging since by that time the old PT should be a pile of rust.

Well to be fair Lamborghini tractor has been separate from Lamborghini cars for many decades (since the 70's IIRC).

As for the timing belt I want to say it was replaced a while back when some other maintenance was being done but now that I think about it I'm not to sure. Must check my records.

Yes. Stuckey Subaru in Hollidaysburg. I had the Forester appraised on Saturday with an unsatisfactory result so I left. When I went back in last evening the appraisal was much higher - just where I wanted it. I was a little surprised.

She had a white Chevy minivan many years ago and she only lost it a few times in the snow so she should be OK. With this one though, all she has to do is log in to her MySubaru account on her phone and make it honk its horn a few times.

I’d appreciate that info. Right now I’m debating on whether or not to do the belt on the convertible. It’s at 83k and the previous owner had no idea if it had been done in the past. Mitsu says change is “recommended” at 60k but not “required” until 100k. Since the belt change isn’t cheap I’d like some real world durability info on these belts.
