I've come close to bidding on a Porsche tractor as well as a Lambo crawler on BaT; the main problem is the cost of delivering them to my house...

"...the main problem..." uhhh, I'm not so sure that would be the main problem. :sunglasses:

Driver, dynamic pricing has been a thing for a long time. Sports teams do it. Movie theaters, even restaurants. And your eggs will be a different price sometimes if you are a price club member and get a discount. And why should you pay less for your next MB than if I got one, just because you already own one?

More car news, the Hyundai died as the wife was driving it yesterday. The engine just stopped and died. Couldn't get it going again. Had it towed to the dealership and should hear something today.

That’s not good. Hopefully something minor. At least you have a spare car now!

I thought that Porsche stopped making tractors and Lamborghini tractor doesn't export to North America.

Some are confusing the concept of dynamic pricing with what SXM does, which is a totally different thing, more like a reverse auction of sorts, but where you bid by threatening to walk away until you get the lower price you want, and where they may or may not accommodate you. They have despicable business practices.

They didn't even offer me related but likely more suitable because of lasting more than 5 months options. But finding info from their site always demands knowing your radio # or ID first.

@Michaell mentioned a playlist used rather than XM.

I have started collecting songs into a playlist to put on a USB for my car in 5 months.

Oddly, some days XM plays songs on 3 or 5 channels that I like hearing most of, and other days it's like irritating crap as their song choices. Love, Bridge, 50s, Soultown are my main buttons.

I swear on some 30-min trips as I scan the 10-14 XM channels I have, I run across certain songs that I hate 3 times.

In interest of full transparency, several days ago I got an email from son at work about Cruze sounding like a jet engine which goes on and off.

It had no overheat on gauge or he would have mentioned it. Checked internet and a few people had trouble with cooling fan. It has 3 speeds. Five relays and 3 fuses that control it. It goes on highest (JATO) speed then turns off. Lowest 2 speeds don't work, so AC overheats condenser and overpressure turns on highest speed in fan. Good engineering that they set up circuits with an emergency ability to bypass the lower 2 speed circuits. Bad engineering that a few of the fans die.

Service writer told me they don't have trouble with any of fans going out (sort of like CRVs never have AC compressor failures that dealers admit). But the tech said it had bad fan where some circuitry is located so fan has to be replaced.

First days of the UAW whine strike. I was worried about parts availablility.

Got 'em in 1 day and was covered under GMEP warranty. Life is good.

Hope @snakeweasel has the same kind of good outcome.

If fan failure had been one of the 5 relays, it would have been cheaper for GM.

What I've found is that the local library has CD's you can check out. I'll pick up a half dozen or so from artists I like, then load them into iTunes directly then onto my phone.

Rinse and repeat until you run out of space.

I did read an article that stated that you don't "own" the music you purchase from Apple, and that they can wipe them off your computer if they decide to change their business model.

Unless, of course, you back them up somewhere safe.

It reminds me of being in China. They are insulted if you pay the first price they give you....they aren't happy unless you bargain with them. Having to fight for a decent price is uncivilized, I don't have the time or patience to play around....everyone should get the same basic price, unless there is a sale or say an age group like seniors. The Tacoma has a CD player too. They updated the infortainment for 2020 so maybe mine is the last year it was available. My music library was built up in the early 2000s through Napster, Kazaa, Kazaa Lite, etc. Fairly certain I destroyed at least 1 desktop and 1 laptop in the process with spyware/malware but I have all the music I'll ever need.

I tend to agree. They started it when they moved away from model names like Seville and Deville to letter acronyms - STS (originally stood for Seville Touring Sedan) and DTS (same thing for Deville). Then the CTS came along (not sure if the C originally stood for Cadillac or C-segment), followed by the ATS (A-segment?). I dunno where XTS came from. The XT5 and CT6 seemed to set the new pattern - X for crossovers (so now there is also an XT4 and XT6) and C for sedans (the new CT4 and CT5). The Escalade is the only holdout from the old naming regime and I think they are afraid to touch it.

Good synopsis. I guess the X in crossovers comes from BMW and the A and C come from Mercedes. Kind of copy a little from each.
The alpha-numeric names are more international, names like Deville, Fleetwood, Eldorado don't mean much overseas. Escalade, well, you don't want to fool around when you have a big seller.

Nope not minor, the engine is toast completely lost. Now only good for as a very large, heavy, oily and greasy paperweight.

And I just changed the oil a week before hand.

Good news is the car is still in warranty (barely) and the issue was caused by a recall issue so the service manager said Hyundai will be giving us a new motor. All the service manager is waiting for is the final ok.

    JM had a V6.

I know there were some defect issues with that 2.4l engine, and there might have been an extended warranty on them, or a class action suit of some kind. But thankfully it was under warranty anyway, so if covered, actually a good thing to have a nice fresh engine in the old buggy!

Contractors/vendors can be a partner or the low bidder. Toyota et. al tend to use the former, sometimes Detroit is still stuck on lowest price. Probably depends on how complicated or critical whatever being bought is to the product or service. So you are probably not a simple low bidder buyer at this point. A good vendor partner can sometimes be quite helpful, but probably not if they feel their margin is being squeezed too tight or there is no long term potential in the deal.

Both, but I’m heavier into the products end (retail store fixtures)

That’s a tough one, as you lose a little leverage with an extended contract.

Is the new solution with the same vendor, just a different platform? Do they know they are being phased out?

If not I’d see what they offer and if it’s more than you are paying now offer the same price as you were paying for a one year deal. Chances are they will take it or come up with a stronger package.

Recently someone posted about abuse of handicap parking tags that states give out. That's a major problem in this area as well.

But at ChickFilA a commercial medical transport van (box truck style) parked in the last open handicapped space as we were pulling in. Hmmm. Medical transport of people to and fro doctor appts. Do they stop to get clients food?

Two young, healthy women hopped out and almost ran into the CFA. We eventuallly found a parking space much farther from the door and my wife struggled the distance. Meanwhile the two ladies had returned to the van with their to go orders and were backing out. It had taken several minutes to park because I waited for a car to back out of a space. I snapped picts of the van, but no ID number on it.

Later, at home I found the main office is nearby close to the airport. I called but no one was available from management to take a call. I said I'd write a letter to the address on record. The lady said she'd connect me to the owner's voice mail.

I left a thorough message telling my wife's 4 lumbar vertebra problems and two replacement knees with time and location.

Monday afternoon my wife answered a call from the owner and spoke with him. He'd put out a message to all personnel that was unacceptable parking. He also was calling in the two involved to chat. He apologized again.

I've seen motorcycles for funeral escorts and other cycles parked in handicapped spaces with no mirror hangers.
    But this took the cake.

We have implemented a no phone policy when Sam is around unless absolutely necessary (someone calls, etc). He acts out less, is more engaged with various activities, and is more inclined to listen/be reasoned with.

    Modern family pic.
Gramps holding the baby, kids holding their phones. :)

Is it me or does the baby look like its giving the kids a dirty look?
Cute picture....I think the baby is asking if there are any messages for him.

Having to fight for a decent price is uncivilized, I don't have the time or patience to play around

I'd negotiate a carton of eggs at the grocery store if I could. I find it fun.

Of course... again a good portion of my job is procurement, so it's kind of ingrained in me at this point.

Do you procure products or services?

I've just engaged with my procurement team, as I have a software subscription that expires at the end of October. Crucial to the running of our business, but we're moving to a new solution in the next year, so trying to figure out how to get the best renewal price for a system we'll be abandoning.

Ive already spoken with our account manager - I told her we are migrating to a new solution. Different vendor.

The initial quote was flat to last year. Second quote, which cuts the usage in half from the previous year, is roughly 15% less.

Now, procurement gets to negotiate further for us.

We migrated to a new procurement system now things are so screwed up that most of my small office supplies (pens, post it notes, highlighters and such) are promotional items from other companies.

    The search is over.

She got the 2020 Subaru Ascent Limited 8 passenger in crystal white pearl. Lots of new goodies for her to mess with. She seems very happy.

If I was able to post pictures, I would.

I'll bet you got it from the guy in Holidaysburg, huh?

Good luck with it. Especially trying to find it in the snow. :D

Yes. Stuckey Subaru in Hollidaysburg. I had the Forester appraised on Saturday with an unsatisfactory result so I left. When I went back in last evening the appraisal was much higher - just where I wanted it. I was a little surprised.

She had a white Chevy minivan many years ago and she only lost it a few times in the snow so she should be OK. With this one though, all she has to do is log in to her MySubaru account on her phone and make it honk its horn a few times.
I realize that there aren't many Subie stores in your neck of the woods but I'm curious as to why you went back so soon to get another price for the Forrester without trying Carvana or some other outfit like them. If Stuckey didn't play games with me over $200 for Mrs. j's 2012 Legacy, I would have bought from them. As it turned out while they were playing around that gave Son #1 time to find a used 2018 Legacy that was identical to the 2019 that Stuckey had. Got it from a local used car place about 7 miles from where I live. The 2018 was 6500 bucks less with around 7,200 miles on it so I bought it after selling her car to Carvana at price I still can't believe. When I factored in the price for the 2018 and the knockout price Carvana gave me, I saved just about $8,500 buying used vs. new for the exact same car right down to the color, in and out. This just another case of a dealer playing games and chasing a customer away for a few measly bucks.
