Got a call from the dealership and they got the final approval from Hyundai. Service manager said it should be 7 to 10 business days before everything is done.

A friend bought what must have been one of the last tube Trinitrons just before they went to flat screens - I think it was either a 28” or maybe even bigger if they made something that large, a floor model to boot. That thing weighed a ton. When he finally moved I think he left it behind.

Sony actually made a 40” tube TV. It was a total beast and got great reviews at the time.

It only weighed more than a Yugo.

A $60,000 Ford Escape? Not quite. But rather this is a 2020 Lincoln Corsair, a baby Aviator, not quite but close. It looks good inside and out and a strong competitor to the GLC, RDX, BMW X3 and others.

I’m sure it will be very nice ... but when the heck will the fascination with SUVs end ?

Think the Escape looks better than the Corsair to be honest but not a Ford lover here. Did like the C-Max and was pricing one out a few years back.
Trust me, my salary at Hertz isn't much to sneeze at to be honest, just over $9/hour. Driving around Miami is a dangerous proposition and should command at least $10. But get a small raise in January, so we'll see. Trust me, not there for the money!

Pay no attention to those jealous people Sandy, they just wish they could do what we do.

Today we were stuck in traffic at the end of the day. When I was in my corporate life years ago I would have been frustrated and angry at the delay but now I just sit back and get paid for the delay. Life is good. B)

Wow --- minimum wage here in CO is $11.10 for 2019. Most of the fast food places are paying $13/hr and up for entry level workers.

That’s our minimum here in upstate NY too. NYC (which votes solidly for the party in power) gets $15.

    @ab348,
One our kids is driving a hand me down 2013 Escape Titanium, bought in 2012.
It listed for just under or over 37k, 40k MSRP 7 years later isn't a huge increase, so it doesn't shock me in the least.

We have a lot of Hyundai customers renting from the office I was at all summer. Most days, I'd make over a dozen trips back and forth there. A lot of the folks were getting new engines due to this recall and most were the 2011 Sonatas. Obviously, Hyundai is doing the right thing here and fixing them correctly. Much business for Hertz also!

An article I read said only about 2% of those engines were defective but that might just be company spin.
Yes but with over 200k units per year 2% adds up fast.

Several of my friends I went to law school with meet up once or twice a year at a local restaurant. Tonight our meet-up was at a restaurant a bit northeast of Louisville. I took my 2er and while I was on the interstate I came up on a Type R in Polished Metal Metallic. It looked really nice and we cruised together for several miles at 85+ mph. I let the Civic take the lead for a while, but it was all too much for the owner of a newer F-150, who just HAD to pull between us to prove his superiority to "them little furrin cars." Idiot.
A few miles later an S4 Avant went past me like I was nailed to the floor, but wonder of wonders, when I exited the interstate we were side by side in the dual right turn lanes. I was on the right and when the light turned green it was game on. Even with considerable wheelspin I pulled comfortably ahead until we had to back off for slower traffic.
The dinner was enjoyable as well.

I won't wash vehicles, no way. And yes, have no problem sitting in traffic while I'm on the clock. All I say to my lead is, "Give me the keys and tell me where I'm going". That's all I need to know unless he calls me with a change in plans, which does happen more than I'd like. It's really a no stress gig which is why I'm still doing it almost 6 years now! Talked about this last night and told her I'm working until..., just do not know when. I'll know when it's time to stop. And if I have to switch jobs for a bit, so be it. Having a smaller commute isn't a bad thing really.

Have you looked at the interiors in the newer Mazdas? It’s not a stretch to say that they rival Audi and BMW. The last Lincolns I seriously considered owning were the Mark VII LSC and the LS.

The one thing Mazda cannot seem to figure out is sound deadening. They have these incredibly well done interiors, excellent powertrain with the new turbo engines, and yet, I continue to read about how much road noise they transmit. I could maybe understand that on a base trim, but if I'm coughing up for a signature trim with Turbo, it better have a little extra in there to quiet it down.

I remember back around 2010 or thereabout spotting what I thought would be a perfect car on display outside the GM dealer here that is now the one doing the sleazy cold-call sales tactics I posted about a week or so back. At that time they were under previous ownership and I had a higher opinion of them.

It was on an elevated podium in front of their showroom, a new Cadillac CTS sedan (the 2008-13 generation), Diamond White metallic, cashmere leather interior, just really pretty. I climbed on to the podium to look at it and saw that it had a manual transmission. Could not have made many of those. I wonder how long it took them to sell it.

    Got an email from my Florida MB Dealer;
Come in for vehicle service† from September 3 until October 31, 2019, and save $150* on any service of $300 or more.

What are the chances the bill will be $305 and they will give me $150 off? Why do they give you $150 off if the bill is $300, or $3000? Hard to make a bill come out to just over $300. What are the odds they will find a lot of other stuff to do?

Regarding the Aviator, this is Not Good:

    https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2019/10/as-consumer-complaints-mount-lincolns-aviator-appears-not-fully-baked/

As detailed by the Detroit Free Press, consumer complaints are piling up, including gripes aired by, well, Consumer Reports. The publication recently took possession of a store-bought Aviator, only to see the thing go HAL 9000.

“When you get in, the speedometer and tachometer kind of goes berserk,” said Jake Fisher, CR‘s director of auto testing. “While driving, all of a sudden the digital gauge cluster seems to be having huge problems. For the first couple of miles, it’s hard to see what you’re doing.”

The problems plaguing CR‘s Aviator, Fisher said, seem to stem from buggy software — something automakers should ensure is free of gremlins before owners take to the road.

One customer who chose the Aviator now regrets it. Glencoe, Illinois’ Laurel Spencer told Freep last month that her month-old vehicle has given her so many problems, she’d like to be rid of it. The problems aren’t minor, either.

“It wasn’t more than 24 hours since I drove it off the lot that I had my first problem — a leaky sunroof,” she said. “A week or so later, it was seat belts that didn’t work, and now it has been in the shop for nearly a week for computer malfunctions which had my crash detection set off when driving on a quiet road. The parking brake came on while driving, and a major transmission fault alarm went off. When they were fixing it, the seat controls went.”

So.. how was the largest passenger ship in the world?

A lot of walking! Quite beautiful, multiple pools/hot tubs/restaurants and activities. Fun, well produced shows (notably "Hairspray"). The food was good overall and, of course, more than plentiful. Floor 8 included "Central Park," which was home to the upscale dining choices, and indeed it was a park with lush planting. To be honest, I found the food in the Main dining room to be as good as the one "Specialty" meal we had (courtesy of the travel agency). Floor 5 was the central casual food/shopping and entertainment area. Floor 6 included an aqua theater, the show was good, with divers from heights not to be believed! Hot dog stand, sports bar, candy shop and a Johnny Rockets.

Three waterslides, one dry slide (my favorite) and a zip line (appears short, we didn't take the time to do), climbing walls, basketball court, ping pong, volleyball, run/walk track...

Tropical storm Karen turned Eastern Caribean cruise to Western Caribbean, we did stop at the private beach in Haiti, it was 97 degrees. The ocean was actually too warm, not totally refreshing! Then on to Cozumel, instead o St. Maarten and Puerto Rico. We signed up for an all day excursion to the Mayan ruins of Tulum, Mexico. Long day, but interesting bit of history. And, the opportunity to spend much dinero. As is true of simply being on the ship. Finally a day at Coco Cay in the Bahamas, Royal Caribbean's private island. Beautiful, it just opened this year and is still being built out. Big water park, which we didn't buy tix too, big beautiful beaches, plenty of chairs/umbrellas, a huge freshwater pool and food. Oh, yes, so much food. Better soft serve ice cream than on the ship. Hint for water park, you can buy a half day ticket starting at 11am for 'only" $40. Forgot the full day price, think $60 or $70.

I bailed out of the casino, not only did i lose early and often at blackjack, as a keen observer of gaming, I noted no one was winning at blackjack. But, I did see decent winners at the slots and craps.

So, now that I've cruised el barco mas grande, how do I cruise anything less? I guess we'll see, she wants to cruise the Mediterranean next.

Only reason I'm applying in the first place as it would cut out my longish commute even though the hourly wage is a bit less. Doubt anything will come of it as I didn't take the job a couple of years ago as it didn't help my commuting issues one bit, in fact, made it worse. So I just declined the position, politely though. This new gig would be within 5 or so miles of the casa. No tolls involved either!!
So we'll see where this leads. Nice to have options.

Rented an Hyundai Elantra from Enterprise in Miami. Although the Hertz counter was in my hotel lobby, with Enterprise just down the hall, Enterprise was $10 cheaper for the day; Hertz seemed to tack on a lot of charges that Ent didn't. My guess is the extra charges went directly to Sandy's salary!

Just needed the car for a day trip to Boca, lunch with my 92 yo aunt and 66 yo cousin at Seasons 52. Showed the GF the old haunts of Boca, namely Mizner Park and parents former condo, Tierra del Mar. Very nice afternoon, inoffensive ride (but a bit noisy). Followed by a fab cruise on the Symphony of the Seas. Food, glorious food! What more could you ask for!
Nice, but how did you like driving the Elantra?
Fine, for the brief time and purpose I drove it. I only drove it (for the most part) up/down 95 Miami/Boca. More road/wind noise than is my like, but it was comfortable and kept up with traffic. The AC kept us comfy. Cleanly laid out cabin. Didn't observe the trunk as it was just the two of us. Handled fine, but well, Florida.

I'm sure the folks that actually own them here could give a better in depth review.

Thanks for the review. It's an amazing ship. I haven't been, but it certainly seems that Royal does big ships well.

I think Norwegian's Epic is still doing the Mediterranean. It is known to be a "quirky" ship which either you love or hate but it is one of the bigger ones.

but when the heck will the fascination with SUVs end ?

    Are sedans dead forever?

I was vaguely shocked when I stepped outside for a quick (non-smoking as I never have) break a while ago. With 9 people on duty today, our parking lot contained just 2 SUVs (my RDX and the boss's CR-V), 1 convertible, and SIX(!) sedans.

My LS-V8 was OK for the time I had it. It immediately followed my 350Z when I found out we were pregnant. It just wasn't very thrilling to drive. And 20mpg bugged me. But I LOVED the ventilated seats. I still can't figure out why that never caught on as standard fare in luxo cars across the board.

I didn't know you had one of those... IIRC the V8 was actually the more reliable of the two models.

Maybe SIX sedans because that is what people are trading in....and buying the SUVs.

I hear one problem is they can short out or something if you spill a drink on them, and the liquid leaks through. Wouldn't want to spill my coffee and get 3rd degree burns on my buns. :s

If I was spending under $50k and didn’t wasn’t to patronize Munich or Ingolstadt I’d take a CX-5 over any domestic FWD based CUV.

The CX-5 is probably a more fun to drive car. But, I would take the Lincoln for comfort and for the looks and feel of the luxury it provides. The Lincoln wins for looks:

Have you looked at the interiors in the newer Mazdas? It’s not a stretch to say that they rival Audi and BMW. The last Lincolns I seriously considered owning were the Mark VII LSC and the LS.
Yes, most Mazda interiors are a step up.
