Usually when that happens, I am in 2nd or 3rd place in the original line, a new cashier comes on, everyone behind me goes to the new line and gets through fast, and I get behind the guy who can't find his credit card or forgets his PIN number....or a little old lady who only has change and has to count out every penny.

I'm not much into NFL football, understatement since I sort of enjoy OSU football.
But the recent Bengal losses added to some of the local Cincy political discussions about the raw deal paying for the stadium for the Bengals at the expense of County residents brings an interesting point.
The stadium deal for the Bengals runs out in a few years. And has to be renewed. The Bengals get all sorts of stuff for the stadium and control votes over development in the area around it--while the County taxpayers guarantee them the income from a sell out on the stadium seats.
The radio talk was to put it to a vote whether to have the Bengals get paid to stay, probably building them another new stadium..., or the residents of the County could vote to not pay an incentive for them to stay and the Bengals can stay or go on their own dime.
I'd bet at this point the referendum would be a "No" vote that they could leave.
The NFL would love to put a team in London, I hear. The Bengals might make a good option for that. The team has been underperforming for a long time due to ownership issues mostly, and a lot of players do not want to play for Cincy. The franchise needs a reboot.
If I was spending under $50k and didn’t wasn’t to patronize Munich or Ingolstadt I’d take a CX-5 over any domestic FWD based CUV.
The CX-5 is probably a more fun to drive car. But, I would take the Lincoln for comfort and for the looks and feel of the luxury it provides. The Lincoln wins for looks:
Have you looked at the interiors in the newer Mazdas? It’s not a stretch to say that they rival Audi and BMW. The last Lincolns I seriously considered owning were the Mark VII LSC and the LS.
I can't go so far as to compare Mazda interior to the luxury makes, but they've stepped up their game. Of course, my recent model experience is in the newer Mazda 3 (lower line, but top trimming).
'18 Porsche Macan Turbo, '16 Audi TTS, Wife's '19 VW Tiguan SEL 4-Motion
Mazda is trying to make their interiors compete with lux/near-lux brands but they still trail in many areas. Their in-car infortainment tech is far behind those other brands, and the digital portion of the instrument cluster tends to look like something from 7 or 8 years ago. They are trying, but still have a ways to go. The biggest problem here at least is that their popular vehicles sell mostly in the lower trims, so if you bought a $40K plus CX-5, you see yourself coming and going all day long with all the sub-$30K GX models running around. Being a relatively small company they have a hard time investing in what is needed to stay fully competitive with the big guys.

Cincinnati is working to bring an MLS team to town, and they'll need their own stadium. Not sure how much of that is meant to be paid for by the taxpayers.

Lots. They already sneaked that through with lots of turmoil. Still on-going conflicts. City money. State of Ohio money. Why should the public pay to build public stadiums. Cincy now has the Red baseball park, the Bengals exclusive use stadium, and a new soccer stadium being shoehorned into a near downtown site. AND they have a trolley to nowhere that runs a circuit downtown on tracks.
The parallel of course is that some states and localities gave big money to car companies to build auto plants in their areas.
Saw the BMW Genius Saturday, I had figured out most things either by reading the manual or just playing around with the car. However she was able to answer a few questions and clear up a couple of things I wasn't quite sure of. Overall it was a good experience.
Afterwards we took a drive in the country and went apple picking. It was a good day.
Picked up a bunch of brand new BMW 330i from a local dealer today. Not only did they not give us a genius they gave us the bum’s rush. We were told our cars were “out there somewhere” as he pointed towards the woods. We had to search a back lot full of cars in pouring rain and put the registration stickers and plates on ourselves. The dealer only included 2 screws for both plates so needless to say some of the cars were driving with plates hanging sideways.
Oh yeah, no gas in them at all.
We not only got the feel of the road but also the feel of a muddy parking lot.
They did have one of these in the showroom:
$156,000 sticker. Can you guess what it is?

They did that in Fort Lee & a few other towns in NJ right on the other side of the GW Bridge. Certain streets are for local residents only. They enforce it too with BIG, flashing signs, & a traffic enforcement officer.
How is that legal?

I’ve relegated myself to not even begin to wrap my head around how municipalities work and waste money. One of the biggest asphalt plants in the State of Connecticut is located right here in Stamford. There are apparently 2 certifications of “green” asphalt. They meet the 1st, but are not in compliance with the 2nd. The city of Stamford will not buy asphalt from this plant. Instead the send (2) City workers per asphalt truck to drive to The Bronx (NYC at least 45 minutes away) to buy asphalt. Instead of starting to do actually work at 8:00 am, they don’t start until 10:30 or 11:00 am.

Beckham just closed a deal with Ft. Lauderdale and Miami for an MLS team down here. They are transforming a rundown stadium in Ft. Lauderdale into a huge stadium to bring a Miami team into South Florida. The final home for the team will be a magnificent stadium in Miami. So 2-3 years in Ft. Lauderdale and when the Miami facility is completed, they will move there.
At least Cleveland never willingly gave up their franchise. I think it would be sad if Cincinnati gave up on the Bengals. Cheering for a losing team is kind of its own bonding experience, and then when or if they finally make good, it’s really a point of pride for the city. Think of the Cubs. I’m still hoping for the Indians to win a World Series before I die.

I'm in the market for a new mattress and foundation. Some time ago there was much discussion about the Casper brand but I can't remember what the verdict was on that.
I'm planning to ship that mattress to my Caribbean home so I'm particularly interested in a supportive hybrid foam queen size warm-climate mattress, something not too warm or not too hot and most importantly it can be shipped in a box. I would appreciate your sleeping experience with Casper or any brand that comes in a box. Thanks!

Check out a Purple 2 mattress. It’s a hybrid mattress, firm but not too much so, and has cooling technology. The latter works for us in this heat zone.
Lincoln typically offers some pretty heavy incentives. It's price is inline with it's competitors. The XT4 gets pricey really quickly and is an Equinox underneath.

Tomorrow morning, right after rush hour, I am driving up the coast to my brothers place in Ponte Vedra (just north of St. Augustine and just south of Jacksonville) for a long weekend to celebrate our birthday together. It's 301 miles door-to-door.
I take the Turnpike north to Ft. Pierce and then I pick up I-95 the rest of the way and exit at County Road 210 East to Nocatee. I usually stop for a quick hamburger halfway up there.
He is taking me to Ruth's Cris for dinner Thursday night - our birthday.
What's nice about driving up there in the S450 is the Distronic Driver's Assistance system which steers inside the lane and changes lanes autonomically. It makes for a more relaxing trip. I turn on the massage feature to soothe my aching back. The only problem I am going to have is heavy rains for the first 150+ miles.

+1 Have a hamburger for me, or even better a steak.
What do the experts think of the 2008-12 Chevy Malibu 2.4L as basic transportation? Is it reliable? Are there any weak points? I’ve read about oil burning but not much else.
Can't help more than you probably already know (when in doubt, Google it) but I assume they are pretty solid and reliable. Maybe not the most exciting, but not what you are likely looking for!
maybe too rich for your blood, but I know you love your low mile hoopties, and this one qualifies. Should have a lot of life left in it!

2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
But the recent Bengal losses added to some of the local Cincy political discussions about the raw deal paying for the stadium for the Bengals at the expense of County residents brings an interesting point.

The parallel of course is that some states and localities gave big money to car companies to build auto plants in their areas.

Thanks!
Say how have you weathered (no pun intended) all these storm raging through the Caribbean this year?

Check out a Purple 2 mattress. It’s a hybrid mattress, firm but not too much so, and has cooling technology. The latter works for us in this heat zone.
