On Saturday I took my kids to a local bike shop and helped out the area's economy. We left with a 24" Giant 21spd hybrid bike for Emily, and a Burley Bee trailer for Annie. At 9 years old, Emily was hitting her knees on the handlebars of her 5spd 20" bike (the kid has incredibly long legs), so a new bike was a must. The trailer is quite neat - folds flat, including removable wheel, and attaches to the frame of my Trek right before the rear wheel. The multi-pivot joint allows full freedom of movement when I ride.
On Sunday, we loaded up the OBW (trailer inside), bikes on the hitch carrier, and headed for the Harlem Valley Rail Trail in Northeastern Dutchess County. We did about 5.25 miles when I deciced it was time to head back (10.5 miles total). It is a hilly area, but rail lines typically do not exceed 4% grades. The outbound ride was overall down hill, the way back up hill. Temps were upper 70's.
No, for you hardcore bikers, this would be a walk in the park. For those of us rediscovering pedal power, it was a great challenge, that left me and my two kids smiling from ear to ear. We did the ride with another family (also with two kids from China), ended the day with dinner at the Millerton Diner, and then roadside ice cream. We all slept well....

Acceleration test with weight, got it, swampy.
Glad you were OK, do you sail alone? That could have been a lot worse.
Drove an ML350 at the Benz Road Rally event and can honestly say I'd pick the Tribeca over that, it handles better and feel quicker, for less $, with more room to boot.

If you said F-XT everyone knew you were OK.

Cheers Pat.
Glad you're ok. Just take it easy for a month.

Obviously the rest of the drive was a little quiter for a little while

P.S. Eventually she did agree the new OB looks nicer than our 2000 OB.
I posted about my FXT not starting in Care & Maint. Anyone let me know if you have ideas.

I went back to my desk, ate my lunch, and tried to put it out of my mind.
No such luck, I couldn't let it go. Grunt, grunt, screeeeeeeech. Grunt, grunt, screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech. Over and over. So, I left work around 3:15 and followed the sounds.
I arrived at the scene but the sounds were no longer present. I get closer to the suspected source and low and behold, I see Patti leaving in a Tribeca.
Alas, I found the source of the grunts. :P
We talked a little and then they asked if I would point them home. :surprise:
I guided them as far as I could then left Sandy to defend for herself on the long congested highway home. Hopefully they're not still looking for I-95. :confuse:
Juice and Bob, it was nice meeting you for a brief moment this afternoon. Glad to hear you enjoyed the Tribeca (and F...) Ride & Drive event and hope you had a pleasant drive home.

Juice and I will be commenting on the event over in the Tribeca thread. One nice surprise, besides the B9 Tribeca, we got to drive the new '06 Forester too!
Bob
Fun event, nice to see Dave M. inbetween grunts. Traffic was busy but we made it OK and Sandy happily returned 28 mpg without complaint.
Nothing at the event made me like the Tribeca any less, in fact I'd have to downgrade some of the competitors they had along for comparison instead, particularly one ill-handling Murano that got up on 3 tires during the avoidance manuever, it was wild!

Though I can't talk for a long period of time before my throat sends the red alert. Well, it's good to know that you guys are enjoying yourselves and good to get feedback about the B9. Now if we can only get the B9 before moving in 2 weeks... sheesh.
I can say this: We drove an X with the Premium Package, and it was an automatic. This is very similar to last year's XS model. It had a moonroof and cloth seats. Actually, it's almost exactly like our '01 Forester S Premium Package, in terms of content.
I found it to be a bit more eager than our '01 model. You can feel the extra horsepower (173 vs. 165). It also seemed a bit more refined, but that could be just due to the fact that it was new. We did drive with the moonroof open, and it seemed quieter than ours with the roof open—and that's a BIG plus!

The Florida Crew Extension
Notice anyone familiar? :shades:
Yeah..yeah...I know about the typo.
Serge: if we're in town I'll meet up, sure. Not sure which weekends we'll be at the beach, as the boss (read: wife) keeps the schedule.
Thanks for the spotlight, Karen. That's me in an Outback VDC last year in Vegas.
We should work on getting a colorful Subaru logo to replace that black/white one.

And we needed one for the moose avoidance maneuver in the Murano...one person actually got it up on 3 wheels, and several people knocked down some cones.

Now I'm wondering if anyone remembers that old CW song.
Can't Remember...uh...Stuff.
Is it lunch time yet?

I stuck to my microwaved fig newtons.

Interesting to see two very different vehicles that are common only in their wagon shape -- kind of like the GTO vs. STi comparo. The LGT got edged out by the Magnum's Hemi.

Plus, Legacy has advantages that would not necessarily show up in a short-term summer test. Visibility, reliability, traction, resale value, etc.
They picked an STi over a GTO this week, however.

We're moving on the 15th and that week is when I won't have any hair on my head... not that I have much to begin with
Let me know.
So up came the hazmat team, and she drank the big dose of I-131, and can leave isolation when the gieger counter says she is safe to be among the living. I can then move her to a hotel room closer to home for a week, as she is cannot have contact with the kids. Then another scan next week to check on the progress.
Overall, we are still running scared, but there is a lot to be thankful for tonight.
