Hopefully this weather will boost Subaru's February sales, unlike mostly mild January.

Well, seems the DH decided to celebrate the 'fake' holiday after all and had ordered flowers online (2 dozen long-stemmed red roses) to be delivered to school .. the delivery didn't happen until 4:45 (and I left at 4:30). The principal was the only one in the office to get them, and then she tried to page me in the building. When there was no answer, she called my house. I was on the way to tutor last night, but the DH answered the phone. It was about 15 minutes before his alarm went off since he had to work last night. She asked if he had sent me flowers, and he said he wished he'd been awake enough to say, "No, they must be from her boyfriend!"

ah well .. I called them a 'do it yourself' kit flowers... they came in a box supposedly 'direct from the fields' .. packed well and with a vase included ... they are nice, of course ...

Pinky ring? So he's with us now, eh? ;)

Hey, my last name ends in a vowel and I'm the Godfather to two kids so far...

For V. Day, we went out on the 15th, since that's our date night, and had some great Malaysian food, mmmm!

Our snow is melting fast, even the stuff in the shade. It's supposed to hit 61 degrees today in DC! :shades:

I got dinner out, which I paid for, but that's okay. Any night I don't have to cook is a good thing. However, my 15-year-old daughter got a dozen roses!? The boy chose the day to publically express his feelings for her. Sheesh, I think I've gotten roses maybe once and I was WAY older than 15. Her dad is having some issues, though. Especially since he told her the day she was born she could not date till she was 30. :P
  • jfljfl Member Posts: 1,399
The day she was born she couldn't understand so does it count?

OTOH, at 15, she's half way there!
  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
the roses I got the other day ... 16 were one 'variety' and 8 were obviously a different color/size, etc ... so I got online and emailed the company about the differences and asked if it were normal ...

today I get an email from the company that they are sending a REPLACEMENT SHIPMENT of 2 dozen more roses ...

we'll have roses out the wazoooooo

You should have your own Rose Parade!
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
I told my daughter (turning 10 next Tuesday) that she has one or two more years before I lock her away in the tower till she turns 30 to avoid having to deal with just that issue!

VD day? Got Beth chocolate roses (Gertrude & Hawk), and three diamond (past/present/future) earrings from Kay's to match the neckless I got her for our 25th back in December. Plus dinner out....

My Subaru Crew bookmark is taking me all over the place tonight. I keep jumping out of the my regular page of topics to wagons, forums (general), etc. Have to keep reloading the page to get to the individual threads. Very annoying.......

    G'day

My twelve year old has always attracted boys. Always seems to have several close male friends, usually of the very bright and slightly feral variety. In fact she is off with two of them at present doing something arcane which seemed to involve building an entertainment masze for their pet rats. We have always thought that, like her mum, she prefers male company.

The funny thing is that she is totally unconcerned about boys, treating them no differnt to female friends. This amused a teacher a year or two ago. She pointed out that there was a group of optimistic girls (too grown up at 11 for my liking ) who would dearly fancy a boy friend and were practising boy chasing techniques. The teacher could not help laughing that my kid, blissfully unconcerned about such things, had a bevy of admirers.

I'm not really fussed about fighting off her admirers as I would rather any such things happened clearly in our sight. They have all seemed pleasant kids. Met another one last night when she was doing a concert. She knocked him back on a movie invite during last holidays. Same pattern of nice bright kid with unusual interests (television actor).

Hmm, what's that got to do with cars. I know - I looked over the new Toyota RAV 4 today. Whilst apparently similalr dimensions everyweher to the Kluger (Highlander) it seemed a bit tighter everywhere and finish was nowehere as good. Rear seat legroom a lot tighter. Interesting that in Australia, they are selling only the 2.4l four cylinder with five seats. No sign of the V6 or seven seater. Guess they want to keep the Kluger niche uncrowded.

    Cheers

Are you giving DH credit for getting you roses twice?
  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
he gets credit for 'everything' ... isn't that how it's supposed to be?

The discussions started acting up on me late last night too and I got a "server updating the database" message.

There's also some forum reorganization going on in the background that your bookmarks may be having trouble keeping up with.

I'd call it Spring Cleaning, but it's 10 °F this morning and still feels like winter. :surprise:

10F? It was -8F here this morning, -31F with the wind.

This is most likely my doing and I apologize for not saying something before changing things around. :( It's not completed yet, but the gist of it is that the top level "Subaru Crew" folder is located in Wagons .

Within the Subaru Crew folder, there are separate folders for

    Subaru B9 Tribeca
    Subaru Baja
    Subaru Forester
Subaru Impreza & Impreza WRX STi
    Subaru Legacy & Outback
    Subaru Crew: Archived Discussions
    Subaru Crew Chat

We are in the process of moving all of the Subaru discussions to their respective folders, which will then all reside in the Subaru Crew. Also, members can create Subaru/model related discussions in all of these folders, including "Subaru Crew".

I'm sure you are all saying "WHY are you doing this?!" Because, as so many use the make/model search, it only makes sense to put the make/model(s) into one spot which makes it easier for everyone to track.

SO, if you want to follow all the discussions in Subaru Crew(old and new), click on "track this group" on this page.

If, for example, all you want to read about is the Subaru Baja, open that folder and click on "track this group". You can also just track by individual discussions, but if you track as a group, it will show up on your CarSpace page.

I apologize again for not explaining this prior to the changes and I hope my explanation isn't too confusing. Believe me, I've been through the gamut of confusion throughout this process. :confuse: There ought to be a rule that a manufacturer cannot use the same name across vehicle types! :P

Karen- I noticed the other day that "My Tracked Items" had several Subaru groups that I hadn't subscribed to. I removed them but those and a few more are back today. The software lets me go thru the steps to untrack them but some still refuse to go away :confuse:

  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
Hmm... is it possible you're just seeing a cached page? I've "untracked" some items and they do go away.

Which groups are you having the issue with?
  • p0926p0926 Member Posts: 4,423
Right now it's down to just the Subaru Baja topic. It shows up in my tracked items but when I go to it, there's only the track option (not the untrack).

My daughter was just accepted into the U of MD Graduate Nursing Program. U of MD has one of the top nursing programs in the country, so needless to say we're very happy and very proud of her. She plans on becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Congrats to you and yours, Bob... a noble and caring choice of profession. They're the ones who really call the "shots". :)

That's terrific, Bob! With the growing demand for nurses, getting into a top school like that should really help separate her from the herd, you know? Great news! :)

Yeah, she's on cloud nine, as are we. She also applied to Georgetown, but hasn't heard back yet from them. I suspect if she gets accepted there too, she will still pick Maryland. She got her undergraduate nursing degree there, and its rated above Georgetown. Also, with MD, she can get in-state tuition rates.

    Congratulations to your daughter! :D
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Great news, Bob, tell her I wish her the best.

My sister graduated and just call her first call for an interview this week. Wish her luck!

I've been inactive lately because my brother is here from Brazil, he and his wife plus 3 boys! The house is a circus.

Luckily, they've had snow twice, plus we went up to PA for some snow tubing, which was great. We had a Subaru caravan heading up there, a Forester and 2 Legacys, and of course the snow was no problem.

Tomorrow I'm off to Disney World for about a week, should be fun. I'll try to drop in once in a while.

Congrats to you and your family! Nursing is a great profession, but one that I would never be able to handle. They are definetly under rated. Congrats once again.

the harder the floor is when you fall...

Yesterday she got accepted to grad school. :)

Today she got a speeding ticket... :(

Congrats to your daughter on the grad school acceptance!

A little humility is a good thing...there are things a lot worse than a speeding ticket.

    to Bob's daughter!

Good to hear Bob. What did she aspire to do when she was a little kid?

    -Brian
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
She didn't have any real special interests as I recall. She (and my son too) were always good in school. They were always hard workers, and rarely got in trouble. We never had to bug them to do homework.

I think we, as parents, got off pretty darn easy. :)

So far Brooke (will be 5 in May) has said she was going to go to Notre Dame to count sheep (I think she heard someone say there were an accountant), be a construction worker, and lately she has said she's going to design buildings. Their little minds are so amazing!

I'm sure I'll be just as proud the day my kids get accepted to college.

    Pat,

Sorry for the way of contacting you, can you email your address to me? I misplaced it and wanted to send something to you.

    Thanks,

I can offer room and board for a Notre Dame student .. of course by then, I'll really be in my dotage and need the money to pay for my maintenance meds

I know. It's a real pain. However, it is a site wide issue and not just the Forums. I disabled auto-login until it is resolved.

You got as far as signing up Paul ... the least you could do is pick out an avatar! Otherwise we'll have to start referring to you as the Shadow Man. :P

I updated my photo album in there today -- me, my board and my Subie. (link).

I'm on there. I filled out some bio stuff and uploaded 1 pic for my avatar but haven't had time to do anything else.

This might be more of a question for Sylvia, but is there any way I could change my name? I could create a new account, I suppose, but I'd rather that my post history followed me. Many years ago, I stupidly keyed in my network ID from a job I had back in '98.

    ~Colin
  • hammerheadhammerhead Member Posts: 907
    Colin,
It is a question for Sylvia - and it is possible, and there is a precedent.
I changed mine a while ago, going to a nickname rather than my last name. Didn't know any better at the time of my initial registration, plus the 'hammerhead' moniker was already spoken for. That user hadn't been active in years, so I was able to adopt it. Sylvia was terrific in helping me out with this. (unabashed plug for Sylvia) :)

    Cheers!
