We have a 1080p LCD and play blu ray movies- some movies don't look much better, but some are SO CLEAR! It's almost too clear- I don't want to see the pores on these actors faces!
There are a couple of players on the market that play both Blu-Ray and HD DVD which is a good way to play both sides.
tom
The combo players are still $700. Ouch.
Remember when DVD players cost that much? I've seen them for $45 now. :sick:
I'm mad at Sony because they dropped ImageStation, I lost all my on-line pics...again!
wouldn't any difference to me.
It's blurry either format for me.

My DVD player, a refurbished model I purchased for a song 6 years ago, will only play about 1/2 a movie before it craps out and we have to wait 4-6 hours for it to cool down so it work again. How's that for a nice intermission? :P
Are you serious? E-mail me your addy and I'll mail you a DVD player. They are $35 at Walmart! I feel horrible.
I like you, maybe watch 1 DVD a week at most, usually 2/month. As for TV, I watch a few hrs. and have survived off donated TVs all my life. My latest is like 42" or something that somone didn't want when they got a flat-screen.

First Non-luxury SUV to have 2nd Row Heated Seats. I wish I had em in my Armada.
-mike
Before my current television, a 32" Sony Trinitron, I always had hand-me-downs that friends would give me when they upgraded. Seems like a great way to recycle to me.
Really? Those seats must get quite a bit of use. I guess I just do not like a hot backside unless I am looking at one...
I always let my friends drive my Armada when we go out, and I hop in the back since the 2nd row is actually larger than the first.
On my LGT the seat heater works so well it has left grille marks in my butt! It's VERY HOT.
-mike
On the Outback, I think there are 5 settings, maybe 6. But, honestly, they are all too hot for me. The only difference I notice is that full on simply gets hot faster than barely on.
Your point, however, is well taken, and it was the same point I was trying to make. It is a sad day when second row seat heaters becomes a key "innovation" or interest pique-r.
One would think with something as relatively simple as a heated seat that they would all work essentially the same but that's definitely not the case. For instance, on the MB all you get is a back warmer. While that may come in handy for lower back relief on a long drive, when it's cold out, I much prefer having a warm butt :shades:
While the 04 Forester may only have 2 settings, the "hi" setting works so well that I usually don't even bother turning on the heat
-Frank
The only thing I would like to see added is a heated steering wheel, like what BMW and others offer.
Bob
That's the beauty of the GM ones. You can have Back or Back and Butt! I'd love to see that incorporated into the Subaru ones.
-mike
When it's sunny and the top's down.
It also has air conditioned seats in winter.
For the 09 Forester we'll soon shop for heated seats are a must-have.
Sorry... overestimate. There are 4 settings.... 5 if you include "off!"
AMEN to that! I think every car ought to have a heated steering wheel. It takes an hour or more of driving to get the steering wheel warm at sub-zero temperatures. So, even when the air in the car is warm, my hands stay cold to the bone by holding the wheel. Wearing gloves only insulates my fingers from the heated air, so I usually spend my commute switching which hand is on the steering wheel and which is de-gloved and resting in front of the vent.
What I want right now is a chilled seat. We are having a series of heat waves interspersed by torrential rain storms. Our kids are in the pool every day (well, several times each day) and we are to a week at the beach. Should be interesting as Lakes Entrance, where we are staying was where we had a holiday house as a kid. I gather civilisation has at last caught up with the town as they now have traffic light!
I have to get the boat set up. Some years ago, I tried taking the kids out sailing in my Mirror dinghy (self built when I was a teenager) with neither enthusiastic. Now Tamsin is fourteen and has realised that several of her friends sail competitively, she is keen to learn. Angus is less sure. The Mirror has the advantage that it can be rowed or sailed single handed, rigging the mast further forward to carry just the mainsail. However, it urgently requires a paint job as some of the paint is peeling and I need to evict any resident insects.
Just got the boat down from its hanging straps and evicted the wildlife. I am on holidays for three weeks so first week will be for those sort of jobs - paint boat, finish baseboard for Angus's train set, liaise with builders etc., second week at the beach and a week getting kids ready for new school year and such like. I don't think I will trade you weather at this moment!
Cheers

Well, I've decided not to keep the car after having 2 accidents in less than a year. I think this car has a bullseye dog gonit!!! I'll be selling it in a couple of months in hopes to get a G8 GT. I really want to keep my car since I've put some money into it but I guess I can't rip out the CF hood and grille at this point. The car looks brand new and spec'd to factory measurements but not so much for my body :-(
Anyway, I'm expecting better things for 2008 (with much prayer) and full recovery (have to stay positive).
Here's a pic of what was in case I didn't post it up (I can't remember):
Wow.. sorry for the huge pics... I don't know how to reduce the size, mike, somebody?
Car looks much better now but I'd like to know who opened up the freezer that we've been getting spanked with low 20 degree weather??? Thankfully it's warming up to 60's tomorrow and 70 by Monday. That'll be a washing car day :-) I'll take pics then.

Hey, bigelm, the easiest way to accomplish the resize is to first upload the photos to your carspace profile (www.carspace.com/bigelm), then link the photos from there.
Sorry to hear about the injuries from your last tangle; back injuries are the single most pervasive, nagging injuries.
Sorry to hear Elmer. The G8 GT isn't gonna be cheap....
-mike
I moved my photos over there.
Cheers Pat.
Blu-Ray is a more advanced system-a blue laser is better than a red. Toshiba and Microsoft are HD-DVD. I don't think Sony will be left out in the cold this time--they are supported by Panasonic, Pioneer, HP and Apple. Panasonic was Sony's old foe in the Beta vs. VHS days. Now it is Apple vs. Microsoft this time.
* window frames
* new rear suspension
* longer wheelbase
* 170hp base engine
* probably the same output from the turbo engine
* stability control finally standard
We've been discussing at length in the Future Models thread. Basically I think they nailed it except for one thing - the automatic still has only 4 ratios. Toyota uses a 4 speed for the RAV4, but Honda offers 5 and Mitsubishi even offers 6.
Resize: I'll know for next time, thanks!
Mike,
With my wife's discount through Turner, it should be affordable
You haven't had that for long, a couple of years max?
Those were bargains, though.
It was never bad enough to be totalled, close a couple of times, but each time the insurance fixed it. Finally I smartened up, got it fixed and sold the last time without even bringing it home.
Cheers Pat.
Sorry to hear about the accidents, here's hoping 08 is a better year for you.
Feel better and drop a line every now and then.
Mark
jeff, thanks for putting me into gear (no pun intended) while on vacation. If I knew it was you, I MAY have given you some slack, but then again, your thread did blow up that forum :-p
Seems like I'll be washing the car later in the week. I'm very sore and tense and working on the restaurant plans.
And remind me, where are you again?
Keep your fingers crossed for me!
-Frank
SOA is hosting us on Feb 1st in the morning!

Hope 2008 goes much better for you. I no longer get to Atlanta as often as I used to but have definite plans to visit your restaurant after you open!
To make matters worse, I got bumped on my rear bumper while waiting at a red light.
That happened to me last month. I was fully stopped and waiting at a light. Fortunately it was a square hit and it only popped a few fasteners which the body shop replaced for free.

Auto Show season is about to get started, so, who is going where? Anyone heading to NAIAS? DC? Chicago? NY? Philly?
At a minimum I'll do the DC show. It's much better now that they moved it to after NAIAS, so we get all of this year's stuff. :shades:
-Brian
DC is late January, 23rd IIRC. I'm there for sure, though I really hope Subaru brings the Forester (they'd better).
