Good to hear from you, Steve.

I haven't made it to the chat in a while, but my excuse is my daughter has choir practice, and she sings like an angel. :)
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,728
Great to "see" you, Steve! I am also glad to hear the car is running well for you, despite the difficulties you have experienced. I hope the family is doing well and that you stop in again one of these days soon.

My excuse for chat? I am forgetful and have not attended one in, well, a long time. ;)

Bren - spaced out Thursday night. Ate at Kerby's (but the one on Guadalupe) this morning and heard Terri Hendrix backed by Lloyd Maines (Grammy winner in his own right but maybe better known as "the" Dixie Chick daddy) this afternoon. :-)
  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
I actually know who Lloyd Maines is without your explanation! (Not sure I want to admit that one ... lol)

And ... I'm envious that you are in Austin and went to Kerby's ... what did you have and is it as good as I remember? (I know things do change ...)
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
The bio was for the lurkers. I'm sure Fezo and lots of others know of him too. :-)

Mostly hotcakes (sweet), eggs and bacon at Kerbeys. Almost bit on the cheese biscuits and gravy ... next time.:-)

    G'day

Of course, you all know that Santa has to make it to Australia, long before he gets to the USA. Santa is now settled down with a cold beer left out for him, our children being sensitive to the needs of a long distance traveller. The carrot for the reindeer is also a nice touch but very difficult to leave convincing teeth marks.

The kids are now 16 and 13 and well past the Santa stage, but family traditions remain. For some reason, each of them scores two stockings, the second for a large bear each. (The bears also get a separate chocolate advent calendar, which they generously share with their child - double the chocolate!). The big challenge for me was finding the appropriate Lego toy as the kids are adamant that each bear gets a small Lego car to make on Christmas Morning. I was up at 4:00am this morning to get to the local mega-mall before the crowds to find the necessary Lego. I hope the bears appreciate it!

I hope that you all enjoy Christmas as much as we do.

    Cheers

    Graham

My kids are roughly twice the age of yours, but yes, we too get into the holiday spirit, as my wife still puts out "stocking stuffers" for them.

You and your family have great holiday—and as you are so fond of saying: CHEERS! Same for everyone else here! CHEERS!!

Whatdaya mean "still"? Everyone in my family gets a filled stocking on Christmas morning, even my parents who are in their mid 80s! :P

Merry Christmas to all and may you have a very Happy New Year!!!

I don't know about you, but Santa still comes to my house because there are filled stockings and presents under the tree that were not there when we go to bed on Christmas Eve, and my "kids" are 17 and 21 years old :P

We almost forgot our "Annual Garage Stocking Stuffer!"

Since it looks like we may finally be turning the economic corner, we'll stick with the $100K limit, and the vehicles must now be on sale in the USA. Here's my list:

    2010 Legacy 2.5 GT Limited
w/moonroof, NAVI, fog lamps and a few other goodies
MSRP from the SOA site: $34,470

    2010 Outback 3.6R Limited
w/moonroof, NAVI and a few other goodies
MSRP from the SOA site: $34,745

    2010 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab PRO-4X 4x4
5-speed automatic and a few other goodies
MSRP from the Nissan site: $30,575

    Total: $99,790

    I'll play.

I'll take TWO Forester 2.5XT Limited with a few goodies I chose at $32,214 each - so that's $64, 428 for the pair .. one for me, and one for DH ..

Then I'll take a Nissan Z coupe 370Z touring with goodies at $36,850 so we'll have one just for FUN.

I think I went about $1,000 over, but once I made the "deal" with the salesman, we'd be well under the $100,000 mark ;)

My sister and I still have our stockings from 1964... her second Christmas, my first. We hang them every year, and if we travel to the other's (I'm in NJ, she's in Ohio), the stockings come with us.

    Merry Christmas, Crew! :)

$40 grand or so for this:

    image

The other $60k to pay for the bribes to get it. :shades:
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Plan B:

$29,393 for a loaded 2010 Legacy GT Limited
$35,000 for a 2011 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD
$35,607 for the best CPO Boxster S for the price

The Sienna will be here next month, that's close enough, right Santa? ;)

Plus it's getting an AWD system upgrade for 2011.

The GT sedan only to shake things up, get something different.

    w/nav a few goodies
    MSRP: $33,427

    Total: $99,952

2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium 6MT but I might go for the CVT. I dunno, I like rowing my own. Cypress Green with everything, $27,905.

2010 MINI Cooper Clubman John Cooper Works, BRG with Black bonnet stripes. Cold weather package, Xenon headlamps with power washers, NAV, auto A/C, Works Big Brakes, mudflaps, driving lamps. $36,838

2010 Toyota Tundra xtra Cab, 5.7l V8, Nautical Blue Metallic, Bed liner, tube steps, tow package, iPod interface, NAV.. $34,604

$99,347, and a fancy dinner to celebrate. ;)
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It's a little bit funny that the smallest car is the costliest, but I get why. :shades:
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
'coz it's the sickest of the three. But also the best fuel economy!
  • KCRamKCRam Member Posts: 3,516
    2010 Ram 3500 Crew Cab Dually 4x4
As identically equipped as possible to my 2005, MSRP $50,785

and I'd use the remaining $49,215 to beg for a
2010 Chrysler 300C Diesel (Europe only)
    - 3.0L turbocharged 72° aluminum V6 diesel
    - 215 hp at 3800 rpm (redline 4500)
    - 375 lb-ft at 1600-2800 rpm (the Euro-issue 5.7 Hemi is 389)
    - urban cycle 10.8L/100KM (21.75 mpg US)
    - ex-urban cycle 6.6L/100KM (35.6 mpg US)
    - combined cycle 8.1L/100KM (29 mpg US)
With the 18 gallon tank, that's a potential highway range of 630 miles.

Finding 40 cetane diesel for the Ram Cummins is easy... finding 49 cetane diesel for the 300 is not.

yeah .. mine was, too ...

I know .. I don't add all the 'juice details' of what I picked out on my vehicles ...

I guess if I had the $100,000, though, I'd really have to go buy the school building. My husband still wants it. We're going to wait awhile and maybe offer a low bid and see what happens ...
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I'd be practical (and boring) and invest it, pay down the mortgage, and pad up the kids' college funds.

But hey, this is a dream scenario. Gotta spend the full $100k on cars.
  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
Yep, I know .. and it was fun going 'shopping' for the cars .. ;)
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,728
I need to reply back with something when I have a chance to look, but the Frontier and Clubman caught my eye just reading though others' lists. If I had the practical option, I would use it to finish my house, pay off all of the other debts I have, and then plunk the last $30,000 into the childrens' college funds. That would make for a good year. ;)

this is a Subie board, last thing we need is everyone getting even more practical and mature with their money. You know the rules, now behave and get a little indulgent.
Well, this year's MSRP for the Tesla has jumped to $109 so that is now out of the running. I could dig into the boys' college fund....but that would be breaking the rules so no.

Mercedes R 350 Bluetec with premium package and rear camera. $64 300
Very nice replacement for the family hauler that would allow the monster truck to retire to summer towing duty only. Nice blend of luxury and efficiency.

Outback 2.5 Limited with Multimedia option and CVT for Dra's new car - meets all the criteria of what she'd need and want and is very efficient to boot.
    MSRP $38 095

I'm not bad at math, I know I'm over, but could easily negotiate down the sale prices to be well clear of the $100k mark.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Maybe I'll get the wife a Legacy and one of these for me:

  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
    Outback 3.6 Limited

    Porsche Cayman S

With some haggling should make the $100K mark!

Have a safe and happy new year everyone!!!!

I'll take the OB, I'd rather get a Boxster than a Cayman anyway. ;)
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I just feel like a roadster is worth more, not less.

I'd take a Cayman for a dedicated track car, sure, but seeing as that's never gonna happen, for a daily driver I'll take the Boxster.
  • hammerheadhammerhead Member Posts: 907
Figure about 30K average for each:
2010 OB 5spd, any color except blue or black; plus
2010 Forester, AT, and it has to be red for she who must be obeyed; and then

40K to build a taj mahal detached garage to put them in.

Voila! The 100K garage, and the attached garage is still full of junk!

    Cheers!

    except blue or black

Card carrying member of the OCD club, I see?
  • hammerheadhammerhead Member Posts: 907
Well, that's part of it... I just don't like blue, black ones get way too dirty.
I like lighter colors, although my last couple vehicle purchases have been used, so color has taken a back seat so other things that are more important.

    Cheers!

and, after all, we do get to spend it the way WE want to (since it's imaginary anyway!)
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
My Miata is a dark Blue and it may as well be black.
  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
I know I shouldn't complain since I've had 2 weeks off and DH was able to be off at the same time, but I do go back to school tomorrow ... the last 2 days we have moved furniture ... someone (guess which one of us) got the bright idea of swapping the main floor living room with the main floor dining room (long story and I won't bore you guys with it here) ... we have a lot of BIG furniture in both rooms and we have some new furniture coming this week for the living room (depending on how you look at it, it's either an extra large loveseat or a smaller sofa and also a "chair and a half" with recliners in all 3 of the combined seats) ... so we also wanted to make sure we had the rooms ready for it to be delivered this week

DH has moved things ... and moved things .. we really only moved one fairly light piece twice and 2 more difficult pieces twice .. overall we did well ... and it fits the way we thought it would ... we like the change ... it provides us with a bit quieter area to watch TV with the daughter and grandsons here ... and it should also be quieter if one of us is in the bedroom trying to sleep ... actually puts the dining table a bit closer to the kitchen ...

    Hi there,

Haven't checked in for a while, but wanted to wish everyone here a belated Happy New Year! Best wishes for a better 2010 than the 1st decade.

Oh, and if anyone is in the NY Tri-State area check out the upcoming 9th Annual 48HRS of TriState drive (www.48hrs.info).

  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
I've driven and like both- and keep flipping back and forth as to which one I'd get. I suppose if I had to pay for it, I might get the Boxster since it's actually cheaper. But I agree with Bob, I think the Cayman is what the 911 should have become- it's a much smarter design (than having the engine behind the rear axle!). Also here in Seattle, who needs a convertible anyway? ;)

I do love the growl of Porsche's flat 6 engines! Sounds very familiar. . . :D

    Happy New Year everyone!!!!

Did you see the Mythbusters episode with the Porsche 911 in the rain?

Just drive fast. Real fast. :D
  • tsytsy Member Posts: 1,551
Yeah, that was great! The car was hydroplaning at 100mph! :surprise:

It's funny, they borrowed the car from a fan of the show!!!! I'm not sure I'd let them borrow my $100k 911 cabriolet and do donuts in the parking lot and drive it through the rain with the top down!!!

    tom
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Yep, that guy was nuts.

I love watching that show with my kids, they're getting in to it.
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,728
Okay, so I struck a balance between "practical" and fun....

    2010 Honda Big Red MUV @ $16K
    2010 Yamaha FJR1300A @ $16K
    Bosski ATV Wagon 1600 AL @ $2K
    Aluma A6314 ATV Trailer @ $6K
2011 Ford Fiesta SES Hatchback 5MT @ $20K (for me, to replace my '98 Escort)
2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon MT @ $35K (for the wife, as she has always loved Wranglers)

So, that's $95,000 and pretty much uses up my funds, but assuming deals can be had, why not go for a lightly used Ski-doo GSX? That'd probably run about $8,000.

i love my car .. i love my car ... i love my car ...

we've had a LOT of snow over the last few days and it's not done yet ... coming a bit faster today ... I work at 2 schools - one of which is wayyyyy out in the cornfields ... I had to go out there this morning, then back into town for mtgs at the other school and then BACK out to the cornfields for the afternoon ... when I was going back out .. I'm driving along thinking ... ok .. I know the road is "somewhere" between that row of power poles and the ... um ... ... wide open cornfield ... luckily I didn't meet too many people and could stay in the "middle" of where I "thought" the road was supposed to be ... must have worked!
