    I know the down payment is insane. My wife started the process with another dealer so I used it to keep things consistent.

    We’re trading in a 2017 Forester XT Touring with 41,100 miles in excellent shape that we leased. It was originally leased for 15k miles (45k) and we came in under.

    Seems like we’re getting hosed on the cost of the car and in trade considering dealers want the XTs — or am I off-base? Where should I focus my negotiations? My goal is to get money at signing to $1k-$2,500 and the monthly to the low $400 range. I think it’s reasonable, but please... someone HELP. 😊

    As the deal is now, $6000 less upfront will add $180/mo. to the payment. That puts you around $570/mo. with $1500 upfront. I don't see an extra $5000 in your deal to get you into the low $400s.

    No info on your XT, but if you think you are getting hosed, then shop more dealers.

    Thank you! One dealer quoted me .00106 MF. Could that have just been a typo? The lease payment that I calculated using that number matched the payment they quoted me so I'm not sure.
