Sainsburys car park in Southampton Hampshire - youngest registration number appears to be V suffix gold Fiesta - August 1979 to July 1980
is an early '60s Buick Special wagon. I think the Caddy behind is a '61.

On the last pic the only VW I see is a Gen 1 Scirocco. I’m surprised there aren’t other VWs.

Nice early Land Rover in the Brittanic showroom, but I'll take the Coupe deVille parked outside, I believe a '62. Lovely styling on those.

Fiat 1800 or possibly 2100 - circa 1961 onwards
That old Jeep wagon is a rarity now too - I have seen a Willys Jeepster convertible from about 1954 (in America) but never one of those wagons.
Also the Chevrolet next to the Fiat - is that a 63 model?
The Land Rover would be an 88 - which refers to the wheelbase in inches - and would be Series II
Hi - I think there may be a VW Golf - the white car beyond the dark Volvo estate - initially I thought it was a Horizon but I think its a Golf.

The Southampton Sainsburys has a nice range of cars but nothing exceptional - although there are a couple of sixties ones there
I hadn't noticed the two GB stickers on the Cherry - must be for decoration as only one required.
Yes, the same period as that monster - I gather that a couple of weeks ago the Yorkshire Ripper - Sutcliffe - died in the prison hospital having refused treatment for the Covid infection...
There was also a "Station Sedan" variant.
His wiki makes for interesting reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herb_Chambers

That grey car to the side of the GB Cherry is a Wolseley 1500 - it's probably the oldest car there but may have a rival in the maroon A40 below the Y in the store sign
Nothing thrilling but a novelty car passing by... this must be early 60's
Novelty car appears to be a 3 wheeler with the single wheel at rear. I had to "cheat" a little, maybe a Frisky?

Ponchos were always popular in Canada even though they had Chevy frames and motors, they are well represented.
Oldest car is probably the '56 Chevy behind the snow-covered Ford. Newest? Perhaps the '64 Pontiac squeezed between the GMC bus and the Chevy/GMC pckup.

Yes, Washington is a New town established the late fifties for urban renewal in the Durham coalfield (which has all gone now) and the microcar is a Frisky.
They made them with two rear wheels initially - like Isetta did - but the law in Britain required that if a car had four wheels it was taxed as a car and not three wheeler, whereas the latter was treated as a "motorcycle combination" -ie a Motorcycle and sidecar. The engine was either 250cc or 350cc for the four wheeled ones but the later three wheeler was only 250cc I think.
That allowed it to be driven on a motorcycle licence and to pay less tax.
Isetta and others didn't sell their cars here with four rear wheels either and Messerschmitt only sold the Tiger model as a four wheeler here as that was really a tandem sports car
The other car is a Humber - either a Hawk or a Super Snipe

I've enlarged the picture and I think following the 56 Chevrolet is a 61 Dodge closely followed by a 60 Pontiac
Near us behind the convertible is a 61 Chrysler two-door - perhaps a Newport?
I think I see a Vauxhall Victor (or Envoy) three back from the Chrysler
Somewhere in our attic I have a Spot On model of a Frisky - about 1/40th scale - they were a bit larger than the usual Dinky

Yes - I think it's a Prinz II but am not sure.
IX is one of the original codes issued by the UK government from 1903 (for County Longford) and continued in use despite the separation of Ireland and the declaration of the Republic in the south, until IX9999 was reached in February 1970 (Longford followed it up with AIX 1)
I guess this car was from about 1958 or so.
The silver car next to the P / parking sign is a Ford Taunus P2 I think - perhaps a 17M from about 1958 /60
To it's left the white car with the sloping rear window is a Peugeot 203 - late 50's
I'll stick with its being a '52.
Speaking of Type 1s, the Beetle foreground is a '58 or newer w bigger back wndow and across the way is one with the oval window ('52-'57?).
Nice Fintail near it.

After no more than a couple years, the more typical style replaced it:
I too see the oval Beetle, and the fintail is a W111, then a late model car.

Fair enough - I must admit I don't know a 52 Dodge from a 53 but my problem is all those early 50's Mopar models look the same to me - they're all like large Hillmans with their rounded styling, and it isn't until they get flashier a year or two later that I can start to pick out differences.
