Maybe a bit too picky in this instance. It is a low-mileage manual E36. It is an enthusiasts car that will have people clicking. I think that's the point. If it were my car, I'd expect them to accept it.

On cars.com, there are only 2 E36 manuals with under 100k miles that are NOT M3s in the entire country. A 318ti with 95k for $6k and a 323ic with 57k for $10k.

That 330i e-Drive looks like a cool car & a nice CPO car. 5.8 seconds to 60 is plenty quick in my book (about on par with my Infiniti).

Sounds like this one was somewhere in between those two in terms of desirability. Seller should have had the guts to list it at no reserve.

it is at a dealer, and seems they are less likely to do that. I should go over on Friday and take a drive in it. I'll be halfway there at the Acura dealer getting my oil changed! Though then I have to spend $5 on the bridge, and have to get back to work anyway.

My Dad’s car arrived. So much for enclosed shipping - it was still absolutely filthy. Covered in dust. Though, it’s hard to know how much of that was from living outside at my parents. I’m thinking it’ll need a good detail and possibly paint correction before long, but for now needs to be hosed off.

Preliminary take? Probably the smoothest manual transmission and clutch I’ve ever encountered. Old BMW iDrive is atrocious. Seats are absolutely amazing.

I will probably have my mechanic give it a PPI like once-over to make sure there are no surprises.

You know, reading this story makes me wonder if it would be cheaper to ship my mom's car to me from CA rather than find the time to fly (or drive a rental one way) out and drive it back. Though I would love to visit my family.

It was about $1700 for this pseudo-enclosed option. $1300-$1400 open. Cross country, coast-to-coast.

I suspect it’d run you $400-$600 open carrier to Denver. Maybe a bit more.

That's part of the fun! I seem to remember Hoovie or one of the other YT car guys picking up an old Lexus ES and having to immediately stop at the closest tire shop for new tires because the old ones were dry rotted.

I never really cared for the E60 from a styling standpoint- exterior or interior- and the iDrive IS beyond terrible. A nice car to drive, though.

That was hoovie. Bought a $200 ES manual trans that had been sitting for years and road tripped it hone. After tires and an oil change. Cleaned up nice too!

Glad its arrived relatively safe and sound. Giving a good thorough detail is therapeutic to me so I wouldn’t mind!

I do remember the car mags absolutely trashing the old iDrive. One going so far as to say don’t buy a car with it.

Enjoy it while its in your care and post a pic or 2 when it’s cleaned up. Wish we could get a new version of the 5 series wagon instead of endless SUV’s, sorry SAV’s from BMW.

Some tint and swapping out the chrome grilles from shadowline will help. But yes, it is a family hauler and looks the part. I don't mind the styling too much though.

I did that drive once already in an old car. Shuttled my FIL's '91 Subaru Legacy wagon to CA from CO in 2007 when my son graduated HS. 140K, 5-speed, decent shape. Changed the oil, had the tires checked, and off I went.

Not a hiccup over 1100 miles, and averaged 30 MPG for the trip - though, in that direction, it's mostly downhill.

My mom's car has had some deferred maintenance addressed in the past few months, and my sister is using it as her DD at the moment.

Yes, my sister is telling me that things are opening up there. My mom has had her first vaccine shot, and is scheduled to get the second one soon. At that point, my sister will be able to take her out for activities.

During the roadster hunt last year, it was really hard a Z4 without iDrive. Luckily, I eventually found one.

There are some old Grand Marquis rolling around with 200k or even 400k miles on them but that doesn’t mean I’d pay 13 grand for them.

I think that I’ve driven every generation of iDrive, and from about 2012 or so it’s actually a very good interface. I can access most any function I need without taking my hands off the wheel, or at worst without having to take my eyes off the road.

Heck yes, it is! The first major road trips that I did as an adult were in my '69 Econoline (3) followed by my '69 C20 (1, but 11,000 miles in 28 days). So many fantastic memories, and so many challenges!

The world passed another COVID-19 milestone... 100,000,000 cases! Check, please!

I really hope we can keep the vaccinations moving along. With the combination of vax and prior-case immunity, maybe we can get the borders back to a sense of "normal" by the time summer rolls around.

Normally I would do the detailing here myself, but given the circumstances and how bad it is in all the nooks and crannies inside and out, I'm going to let the professionals handle it. Should look great when it is done though - so far everything I've found is just surface dirt and grime. One exception is that the window controls on the driver side have the rubberized paint peeling off - so I may order a new one of those.

Current pictures please! Then follow up with pics after it is detailed. Those rubberized controls and various plastic pieces were popular for a while with VW/Audi as they have a soft touch to them and looked less like plastic. Seems they all peel at some point.

Me too. The only ones getting the vaccine here are friends and relatives.

A lot of the pharmacies are saying not to call, or email, or register on their web site because they don't have any. I guess they think we don't know that the amount and date of delivery are public information.

Popped out to pick up Vietnamese takeout just as it started snowing here. Discovered the OE Bridgestone tires on the Tundra appear to be marginal in snow, which is not a shock, since they aren't great in the rain. At least it was a short trip there and back.

You should watch some of Weird Beard’s auction adventures. I just watched an old one where he was glad that he broke down in front of Walmart because he could get everything he needed to get it home.

I'm headed from home to pick up my wife over at Southeast Christian Church; she's helping coordinate a simulcast on eliminating human trafficking. I'd take the Clubman but the Jeep gives me more options- like being to drive off the pavement to get around an accident.
