I didn't realize that your posted deal was $545/mo with $890 DAS (I thought it was $0 DAS). Your deal right now is comparable apples to apples with my quote ($525/mo + 9.5% tax or $575/mo incl tax with $0 DAS) but yours is a bit better since since your MSRP is $809 higher and the payment before tax is about $5/mo less. I don't think there's much more room for discount this month, so if you need to get a car right now, I'd say take it. Personally, I will wait for February or even March incentives. I'm hoping the residual doesn't go down just yet, but the discounts might get deeper. I want my payment before tax to be about 1.0% of MSRP (~$490) or at least definitely below my psychological $500/mo threshold. That would put me at $536/mo with $0 DAS which is $40/mo less than my current deal.

I think $0 DAS means exactly that. Acquisition fee, doc fee, DMV registration fees, etc. are all rolled into the payments. In California and some other states, you pay sales or use tax on each monthly lease payment, so it’s not a big lump sum that has to be rolled into the payments. I don’t know how it works in states where you are taxed on the capitalized cost. You make your first payment 30 days after taking delivery, so you actually make 35 payments on a 3-year lease.

Correct - $0 DAS is also referred to as "sign and drive". Everything (taxes, fees, first payment, etc.) are rolled into the cap cost and made part of the monthly payment.

Doesn't matter how taxes are calculated - it's still $0 from you. Sign the paperwork, take the keys, and off you go!

Michaell, with Arteon MF being 0.00001 (essentially zero interest), is there any reason one should not do $0 due at signing? The only reason I might pay the first month's payment only at signing is to make myself feel better that I got a lower payment by about $16-17.

No preference one way or the other. It's just a matter of amortizing the first payment across the remaining 35, or not. It's not like the interest on that is going to be onerous.

Question about dealer lease cash. Since this$3,250 is apparently direct from manufacturer to dealer, does that mean it's not a taxed incentive from the buyer's perspective (as opposed to customer cash which would be taxed in CA, for example)?

That is correct.

Dealer incentives are not subject to tax - it just reduces the negotiated selling price.

I assume the $3,600 is deducted from the selling price, on top of whatever amount the dealer discounts it from MSRP. Loosk like the numbers got slightly worse from February, 1% lower residual but $350 more in incentives. That low residual is a killer on this car.

Michaell and kyfdx, I cannot thank you and these forums enough. I took the 36/12 deal at 579 a month 0 DAS and first month paid by VW (which I see as an extra $16 off per month savings) just now. I went in fully prepared because of the quick responses from y'all. I am perfectly happy with the end result. The Audi's, Stinger GT1s, and similar hatchback offerings were coming in above the mid 700's at the cheapest, so while the Arteon may not be the best AWD performance car, it gave me all the tech and comfort options I wanted, more so than similar specced competitions, for the price.

Called around different dealerships today looking for a great lease price on the Arteon and they quoting me residuals of 40-44, not the 50%. Where do you get the 50% residual and get them to use that instead of 40-44?
