fun morning at the beach. spent an hour chasing after utilities and services for the new house to get all that set up in advance. Most of it got done. Other than the gas/electric co. can't seem to find the house so had to reach out to the sellers to get an account number or meter number. I know they have gas and electric now so if it is free I would like to carry over that special plan!
New topic! I don’t believe we have discussed this before.
Coolers -
Looking for a soft cooler. Stuck between paying the crazy price for a Yeti or the more reasonable one for a n RTic. Anyone have real world experience with an RTic. Reviews seem very good and all point to them being as good as the Yeti at a much lower price.
Want to save money on a cooler? Order some Omaha steaks. They come in a styrofoam cooler that could hold a case of beer. Perfect party arrangement, take the steaks out, cook them and fill the cooler. Don’t forget to invite all your Edmunds buddies.
How many beers will that thing hold?

Oh boy, not my area of expertise, we can't all know everything about every topic. I probably know more about tennis and pickleball than I do about Ricardo seats. Maybe more than some people who know everything there is to know about cars.
I do know this...the R/S 4 we looked at had Ricardo seats and they had bolsters that I would get tired of very quickly.....taking into account the number of times I actually need the bolsters.
I’m well aware that most automotive topics fall outside your area of expertise, so for future reference:
Ricardo: Recaro:
Yeh I flunked Recaro 101 in college, but somehow I made it through life anyway. I don't know how I got this far without knowing that.
@stickguy When we went to transfer utilities at the shore the electric went fine, but they couldn’t find the gas. I explained the PO has gas so why couldn’t they find it. Well they ended up searching their name and it came up with the wrong address. I said ok, let’s change it and make it right. The rep on phone said, probably not a good idea. It’s been like this since 2003, changing it could “mess things up”. So I left it and luckily it’s been fine. I can only assume the meter # matches the account # and that’s all they need.

————————————————- That sounds like an answer you get when someone doesn’t know how to do it or doesn’t want to.
Coincidentally, I just had a call to Verizon this morning about my bill. I keep getting charged for a MLB package I never ordered and last month I had to call to have it removed and got the bill adjusted and paid the corrected amount. This month not only did that package appear again they said I owe them $98 and change as a past due amount. I even told them they sent an email last month telling me what I should pay and he confirmed they see it.
I told the guy I talked with today the only way I know how to fix their screw up is to cancel my account. They guy couldn’t get the reoccurring charge to be deleted but said he’d call me back sometime today or tomorrow when he can get someone to fix it and asked that I PLEASE not cancel in the mean time or I’d really get them screwed up. To have some fun I’m about to call and cancel especially since Comcast will be cheaper. But I was told repeatedly I was a valued customer. I wonder how they treat their run of the mill customers?

Sounds like a false economy to me but what do I know? Our National Broadcaster yesterday ran a story locally about a doctor sounding the alarm that he had heard about (not firsthand mind you) patients in a low-income area talking about infecting each other with Hep-C using dirty hypo needles in order to get government-funded drug treatments in order to claim the loyalty points a couple of different pharmacy chains here offer. Apparently the cost of such a course of treatment could be up to $60K Cdn. His alarm wasn't about the self-infection but rather that offering loyalty points on prescriptions was bad bad bad and drove such terrible behaviour. Of course what he overlooked was that they only award points on the amount of co-pay that comes out of the patient's pocket. So you’d be suffering from a potentially fatal self-inflicted disease, and be forced to pay some sort of co-pay you surely do not have in the bank for the treatment, all to get a pittance in reward points. Journalism isn’t what it used to be.
One of my wife's friends is on the board of a local NPO, and she invited us to a reception that was graciously hosted tonight by the local Mercedes-Benz dealer. As far as cars went, there were only 4 in the showroom- all CPO cars. There was a C Class and a smaller SUV wearing the AMG equivalent of M Sport trim; very nice, but nothing that screamed "GOTTA HAVE IT!" The one car I could actually see myself owning was a sinister 2016 AMG GT S- although with an asking price of $99k I'd rather have an M2 CS, an M4 CS, or a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 for similar money. However, my wife fell in love with a 2021 Jupiter Red G 550; I think she would actually have voted to buy it at $100k, but unfortunately the asking price was $179k. I had driven the M235i, and heading home on the interstate I tucked in behind a nice RS4. I kept pace with him and after a couple of miles I checked the speedometer and I was doing a bit north of 100 mph. That's why I normally use cruise control on limited access highways- the car is deceptively fast. Even more so than the E65 Alpina B7 press loaner I drove to Fort Worth and back in 2007. In any case, my wife never looked up from her Kindle- although I'm blessed in that she never complains about my cruising velocity.

The Nest Power Connector seems to have solved my problem with the Nest thermostat. It is a little adaptor that fakes having a common wire and allows it charge better from the air handler. So when you get down there if it’s low battery and it won’t charge up this may help you.
The best way is to have a common wire, but not always easy to run that. When I was installing the power connector I noticed that the thermostat wire may have an unused conductor which would have been perfect but since I already had it wired up I figured I would try it. If it gives me more trouble I’ll pull the loom apart further and see if I’m correct and just wire up the common terminal and eliminate the module.

If not look at the schematic on the furnace (usually found pasted to the panel that you have to remove to get to the furnace connections). Then turn the 110VAC power off to the furnace and connect the wire per the schematic. Easy peasy.

I’ve been tempted to install a Nest thermostat but I’m not convinced that you see significant savings with a heat pump.

Exactly it’s not connected as of now. The power connector module (and compressor trigger) is connected to the common terminal. If I I’m still having problems I will connect the extra conductor to the common at the furnace and at the thermostat as that is the best way. I didn’t notice there was an unused conductor until I had the module all wired up. If I would have seen it I would have not installed the module and gotten my $25 back.

I couldn’t tell you about savings, but I just love having control from my phone. I used to be able to tell Alexa to set the temp but that doesn’t seem to work anymore. Anyway, if I’m in bed or on the couch, I don’t want to get up. Just click the phone!
I also like I can do it away from home. On vacation and forgot to turn it down? No problem. Of course, it also sense you aren’t home and does it on its own. So that’s nice. It is just convenient. Yeah, there are other internet thermostats, but I don’t believe much different in price.

I don’t have one for savings but for piece of mind when we aren’t here through the winter. The app allows me to see what the temp is in the house at any time. If the heater were to malfunction the app would notify me if the house falls below 45. It’s also nice to remotely raise or lower the temp when we are on our way down
I like the way Judge Judy figures out who is lying. In this case, the couple had a winning lottery ticket that was worth $1700. They didn't know how much it was worth until they take it to the store, the store sends it in, and they are supposed to receive a check for their winnings....but the check didn't arrive. The defendants must have intercepted the form and the ticket they sent in to the lottery company. (5 minutes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5znSkoFbyM
.....actually, if the truth be known, I can tell those two are guilty just by looking at them.

I learned early on that I should focus on testimony and not the appearance of a witness. I had the advantage of seeing a lot of the same people over and over so they had a track record. For example, I knew some officers would prefer giving a warning 99% of the time over writing a ticket, so when I had a case where one of those cops wrote a ticket I figured the defendant had probably done something. Conversely, and more frequently, there were officers who were overzealous with regards to writing tickets, so a lot of tickets from those cops were viewed with considerable skepticism.
Of course the most fun was to be had in Small Claims court- AKA: “The Gong Show.”
Keep in mind, the most accurate depiction of the American legal system is still the old NBC series “Night Court.”

If there is a heat wave they can dial back your a/c so you can't make it as cold as you may want. They can probably listen to what you are saying too.

It isn't exactly free, but if you need a quadruple pass surgery, or a hip or knee replacement, or cataracts done, or if you have to be intubated for covid, you won't pay for those, you will pay sky high hospital parking rates and a high rate to have a TV in your room.....but, still better than a few $1000s a night to stay in the hospital.

Yes, it's all good until you die in an emergency room because of overcrowding, or can't get in to see a family doctor because they are not open to taking new patients, or if you already have one, the nearest appointment is 2 months away, or your cardiologist won't see you for 6 months. Free indeed. You get what you pay for.
Let me just say that I have been on Medicare for a little over 5 years now, and I am VERY happy with Medicare. Is it perfect? Of course not. Is it free? No, it isn't. But it is VERY good by comparison to the alternatives.
I will provide a few examples here. I have been getting injections in my left knee for the last 8 or 9 years. SynVisc or MonoVisc, every 6 months or so. Initially, I had very good private insurance, and my out of pocket was about $10 or $20 for the office visit. Then I was on not so good private insurance, and my out of pocket went up to about $350 per injection. After going on Medicare (with a supplement), my out of pocket is $0.
Now in the not so perfect category, I have to get the 3 separate injections, I can't get the single shot. Which means 3 office visits, not just one. But still -0- out of pocket.
Last year, I fell and cut my hand open, requiring stitches. I drove down the street to an emergency clinic, who told me upfront they did not accept Medicare. I drove a little further to an Urgent Care clinic, who accepted Medicare, and the doctor put 4 stitches in my hand. Out of pocket, -$0-.
Last year, I had a heart ablation procedure. The bill was unbelievable, around $96k, and this was outpatient, check in at 6 a.m., check out around 6 p.m. Not actual surgery (the way I look at it, anyway). I wound up paying around $150 out of pocket, and I don't even remember now what that was for.

That sounds like an answer you get when someone doesn’t know how to do it or doesn’t want to.

That will only work if the common wire is connected to the control circuit at the furnace.

It’s a good thing you’re not a judge. I saw a statistic once that said going by looks you’re wrong more than 60% of the time. Now, once folks open their mouths you’ve got a much better chance, but looks, that’s treading in water where you shouldn’t be.
Maybe our judge could shed some light on this.

Anything connected to the internet can’t be as secure as people would like to believe it is. Anything a manufacturer says should not be believed cart blanche because too many instances have proven they are not the most truthful.
Personally, I’ve never had a problem walking over to my thermostat to change it. The exercise won’t hurt me. The more we rely on these gizmos the more we stop thinking which can’t be good for our gray matter.

So I received the following email from an out-of-state BMW dealer:
My team has discovered an opportunity for you to drive home a pre-owned BMW. Trade in your 2014 BMW M235i Coupe and enjoy the updated benefits of a newer 2020 BMW 230i xDrive Coupe.
Call me crazy, but I don't consider giving up 72 hp and being saddled with AWD to be "benefits."

So, yes, I like Medicare, and I support the idea of Medicare for all. It does work, and it works better than most private insurances. We have had it here in the US for decades now, and it is very poplular.
