I told him to pick up a spare care in N. Carolina!

now that I go down quarterly to Dallas to visit the home office, if I decided to rotate the fleet and get a "big" truck, would just have someone source me one down there, and finish the deal in person, then ship it home. Pickups are everywhere, and they aren't rusty!

Funny car buyer stuff. My friend who impulse bought a CT6 PHEV last year now has a failed marriage. The other half kept the paid off MKZ hybrid (they are kind of a hermit and feared having to shop for a car, so my friend rolled over and let them keep it), and my friend got the not paid off CT6. He now hates it as he moved and doesn't have a reliable spot to plug it in, and thinks it is too big. Apparently he's not too upside down, but the longer he waits, the worse that will probably get. Of all the the things that have caught his eye, it's the Maverick hybrid - he likes hybrids. He also mentioned the Bronco (the big one, outdoorsy virtue signaling is a thing here), but I had to tell him they aren't fuel misers, and that a Bronco Sport hybrid is apparently on the horizon. He's really into the Maverick for some reason, so he might be going that way soon - that or randomly end up in a Prius or Accord. Uncommon to see a hybrid enthusiast.

if he wants a truck (and it will not be nearly the luxo equipped level of the Caddy) I heartily endorse the Maverick! Just good luck finding one, even heavily marked up.

but I suspect that a new Accord would be a much better option, or the Prius if he wants something more compact (an Accord is nearly as long as the Maverick at this point, and probably wider)

yeah I don't know what he's thinking about. He works in DT Seattle, lives in a nearby suburb, isn't particularly into outdoors stuff. I can't imagine he'd haul much. Apparently some exist in local dealer stock, at least online, but we know how accurate that can be. New Accord gets rave reviews and he's had a couple Accords in the past and liked them. We'll see, as I know he will be giving me, the car guy in his friend network, the play by play.

If I had to replace mine, I would take a look at the Accord and new Prius (a hot rod now!) just in case I wanted to move on from a truck (or luck for an older big one instead). I know the odds of finding another Lariat hybrid are slim, at least not for close to sticker.

Besides, I could never get 3 of the same things in a row!

I am still working on my swap the RDX for a sports car plan, but that means the wife would drive the Maverick if she had to go someplace, and it would be forced into all the winter salt and snow slop duties. I need to find a winter beater, but I am seriously going to run out of room to park!

actually looked at a different house today that I wanted to buy but my wife was not excited by it. Not only did it have 3 garage bays (same configuration that Explorer has), next to the single is a large driveway extension plenty big enough to park another car, possibly two. And she still would not bite!

in one bay there was a BRG Jag XJ sedan, an older rounded off model. I did not ask if it came with the house.

So I finally got the whole insurance thing squared away. I ended up switching auto insurance companies. I’ve been with All State for the last nine years. I switched to NJM. My son drove to and from work for the first time today by himself. My wife and I spent the afternoon moving EVERYTHING out of the garage. It’s getting demolished and repoured.

Depends where. By philly where I used to live it was fine. Easy to wash it occasionally in the winter if needed and could largely avoid salt to start with. I had 10+ YO cars that were rust and corrosion free underneath.

Upper reaches of PA, NY and Vermont/NH though, where they get a lot more snow and salt the dirt roads too, that is where it gets bad. Particularly country cars. So just seeing a certain state in carfax does not tell you much.

All the active safety features (lane keep, ACC, collision, etc.) conked out late last week on the Acura so that's sitting at the dealer for the day while my wife got a TLX as a loaner.

Check engine light too? I know on Toyota when a CEL is triggered it kills the safety features also (at least on the ones I’ve owned).

I've recommended he look at the Prius - it seems to have finally shed its penalty box aesthetic. I checked some inventory, and the hybrid Mavericks claimed to be in stock are not loaded models.

Depending on the owner, an old Jag might be like an above ground pool, or that piano or pool table in the basement. If I had more garage space, I'd be impulse shopping - 2 is the right amount.

Yeah in the earlier days of Tesla, there was a joke that the S was for Prius people willing to spend more money. Now there's a joke that esp. lower line Teslas are for (stereotypical - see "Big Altima Energy") Nissan people with better credit.

I assume still under warranty, I hope. My SIL has had multiple issues with her infotainment system and has had the electric sunshade come off track twice which required full replacement. It is a 2019 RDX Advance. She really likes it but it has given her more trouble than her 2006 TL did in 13 years of ownership which my daughter now drives. She plans to keep the RDX longer term but has mentioned it may be a Lexus next.

Yep, still under warranty. This is the first unexpected issue we've had so I can't complain.

When they informed my wife they'll be able to take care of it next week I told her she should have said if the sales team gave us a deal worth signing they could just keep it.

Got the email from Chapman Ford confirming the 2023 Maverick is built and in transit. I replied back letting them know they can release it to dealer stock.

Fun story, we had storms last night and my power went out around 3:00 AM. I had no clue until I got up this morning, but a limb fell on the high voltage power line in my back yard, and it was broken off and touching my detached garage. Part of the limb had burn marks on it. I'm lucky the garage and the Prius inside didn't go up in smoke.

well, congratulations? Maybe? I did not recall you had a 2nd one on order. Any different specs?

I assume you don't have enough equity in the current one to make doing something worthwhile? But if not I am sure they are going to be happy to get a stock unit!

@stickguy - the 2023 is an XLT hybrid with CoPilot 360 (as opposed to my XL AWD EcoBoost with CoPilot 360).

@xwesx - in this case, yes, I'm pretty sure that modern setback requirements would no longer allow me to rebuild a garage where the existing one is.

You might be surprised about setback rules for detached garages. When we built in our brand new development in 1998 (9' setback from side property line), our builder said we could put a detached garage right on the property line, if we wished.

We couldn't put a deck on the back of the house, because of the rear setback (we'd maximized our footprint), but we could build a garage.. lol

This is on 70' X 109' lot..

This is the biggest problem I'm having with this market. Anything with between 110K & 150K that's a "reliable" car is $10K. Anything with under 100K miles is $12K plus. And to your point, we aren't talking about some fully depreciated luxury car or exotic. These cars weren't THAT expensive to begin with. I've decided to go in a different direction. Will report when I punch the card.
