The CPO Type S Advance my dealer has has dropped over $3K in a month and is now about $7K below original listing price, sitting at $62,8XX. If it wasn't a color combo I'm not enthusiastic about (white/red) I'd be sorely tempted, even though the interest rate makes me uncomfortable.
Other than the gas mileage, how are you liking yours so far?
We’re on week three, so I don’t have good data for gas mileage yet. But I’m not expecting much.
Good - It’s the right size for our needs, rides well and has just enough power. Kid seat fits perfectly in the middle seat while front row retains full range of motion. Wife and I really like the seats, and she runs the massage constantly. The stereo is excellent. It drives like a big sedan, which is a compliment here. Great ride/handling balance for what it is. And the baby seems to like it.
Bad - they made the hood longer to give it RWD proportions. And it looks good, but it makes it hard to place it in a parking spot as you can’t see the corners. Even with the 360 camera. Function follows form. I’m mostly used to the touchpad, but a touchscreen would be faster. Type S supposedly has faster shifts, but I’d still like quicker response.
That long hood always looked a little wonky to me... it's very high and flat too. It makes it drive "bigger" than it actually is. Not sure if it's just because I'm not used to much power in general, but I loved that powertrain in my limited time with a Type S.
We just got back our daughter's Jetta that was experiencing A/C issues. At the end of the day, everything was fixed under warranty, so that's good, but it was a frustrating and funny experience along the way.
She had asked them a couple months ago if they could check out the A/C issue (it wasn't blowing cold) during a routine service appt. They said they couldn't do it that day and to make a separate appointment (fair enough). She did so and when she showed up for that appointment, they sent her away saying they didn't have time on a Saturday to run the diagnostics.
I send an email to the GSM (as their service manager was not listed on their website), and surprisingly receive a call the next day from him apologizing and saying he'll make sure things get addressed.
So Jetta goes back in and it does indeed take a few days for them to get through the diagnostics and repair. In the middle of that though, the service advisor calls and asks if we can bring another key for the Jetta, as the one they have isn't working. He asks if I know of any issues with that key, to which I reply, "it was working when I dropped the car off and when you moved it into the service bay." I added, "I'm not trying to be snarky, but if I had a problem with the key, I would bring it to a VW service center."
Anyway...A/C is blowing cold again, and apparently a new spare key is on order.
21 mpg on last tank for the Cayman S. Not too bad. Very little highway mileage. Put a whopping 500 miles on it, in about 11 weeks.
That's about what I see on the Outback, which is also mostly in-town driving. I can haul more than the Porsche, but you certainly have more fun with yours!

Yes, not sure Carvana takes calls or answers the phone, their chat bot/AI program service rep stated they absolutely don't haggle, not the price, and not the shipping costs.
Of course... price fluctuations ensued since that "chat." It's amazing what supply and demand will do to prices when the demand is not there, until it is
It's worse than just a measly $100 though. Trust me, I tried to justify overlooking the "trick." The delta is really close to $60 when you consider that the car is reduced $400 and that lowers taxes, title, and fees, while the shipping cost is not likely taxed. On the other hand you could say Carvana took 2 days longer to sell the car over $60 dollars.
If you let the car go over $60 you weren't actually a buyer.
I was a buyer at a discounted (to make up for the imperfections) price. Basically I can be bribed into buying a car with flaws.
There are a lot of unknowns with Carvana too, and that adds to the doubts. For example it looked like the brake rotors may have been pretty worn out, but Carvana (on this particular car) didn't take the highest resolution shots). I know they have a 7-day return policy, but what a hassle! Trust is a hard one to overcome in sales.

I was watching a carvana vehicle. It had free shipping and then when they dropped the price, the shipping went to $190. It was still a net price drop.
So this technique is SOP for them. At least it's not personal.
Of course, the people that live near the vehicle could get the full discount (without being hassled with traveling to get it themselves).
As I mentioned, this tricky technique managed to get them potentially no sale on the shipping if the person that bought it didn't elect shipping (assuming they make 10-20% at least on the shipping so they lost $60 trying to make another $100?) and made them hold the $43,590 car for 2 more days. They were lucky it was only 2 more days too

I’ve been running into a few of them at work, mainly G70s and G80s. They seem nice, sufficient power and good interiors. Comfortable ride but I wondered do these stand out in some special way?
Also, does the Elantra N Line have some good features that make it special? I ran across one of those as well and it didn’t seem to be unusually fast.

@abacomike has a G80 or G90, and loves it, compared to the BMWs and MBs he's had in the past.
I've test driven the GV70 (SUV) and found it a very nice drive; loaded with features, too, and undercuts the price of the competition by quite a bit. Plus a 10 year warranty.

If I was looking for a new FWD sedan that is fun to drive the Elantra N would be my choice. The Acura Integra Type S is likely a lot more entertaining, but considering that the pre-ADM MSRP of the Type S is more than I paid for my C43 I can't see buying one. As for Genesis as a brand, I think that they build some outstanding vehicles- but subjectively they simply don't interest me. Even if they did, the abysmal quality of their local dealers would remove them from consideration.

I do see a lot of the SUV’s running around. My wife loves them, I’m just ‘meh’ on the outside but the inside does look really nice.

That's my favorite part about WFH--the time you would spend in the office engaging in mindless chatter with coworkers or fixing the cursed printer can be spent putting in a load of laundry or running the Roomba. You are more likely to end the work day with housework caught up and ready to relax instead of needing to do chores.
oh yeah, I don't know how people that go to an office every day get anything done.
my new job, I am the only FT remote person, and most of them are in the office much of the week. But that is in Dallas, so I am working central time, and they don't get in until 9:00, so I don't have to log in until 10:00ish. Makes it much easier to do errands. Yesterday I went to the doctor at 8:30, and today I went for a haircut at 9:00.
I've bought us two robot vacuums, one of the best investments I've made. She's very particular and likes to keep a home looking like nobody actually lives there. Me? Floors and gravity were invented for a reason...

My parents gave me the Roomba. It's outstanding at vacuuming under the couch, beds, etc., but the amount of time spent setting up the virtual walls and moving chairs out from the dining room table and things like that offsets a lot of the efficiency gains.

Carvana shipping varies a lot. Sometimes shipping is dropped to $0 and they don’t lower the car price.
I’ve seen it vary from$590 to $0 to $190 on one particular vehicle.

I had the N, not N-Line. N-Line is mostly appearance bits. N is the whole show - engine, suspension, tires, brakes, interior etc.

Yup, looks just like the wife's honeydew list; "and then you can have lunch!"

Y'all still work with a honeydo list? Aren't we old enough to know what needs to be done, and when, around the house?

my new job, I am the only FT remote person, and most of them are in the office much of the week. But that is in Dallas, so I am working central time, and they don't get in until 9:00, so I don't have to log in until 10:00ish. Makes it much easier to do errands. Yesterday I went to the doctor at 8:30, and today I went for a haircut at 9:00.

I don't mention it as long as the wife isn't allowed to retire. but after that, hopefully the place stays more ship shape!
I keep the outside and the garage looking pristine still of course.
