Green car in Germany is German, but not a Ford.

    At McDs I see a 61 Galaxie 4 door post and 2x 65 Galaxies.

I think it is Elana Scheer in C&D who has recently written of her trials and tribulations in buying and restoring an Interceptor.
And I just noted Leno and the MA plates. Wonder if that's Seinfeld shotgun?

Germans loved those bright colors. I think this may have been posted, this is probably the Wolfsburg employee parking lot sometime in maybe the mid-late 70s (maybe with a little HDR help, but the point remains):

The BMWs are both 2002 models as indicated by the black grillework. The more common 1500 or 1600 versions had silver grilles. Very few 1600s were sold in the USDM

My first love/car... '78 white over black Recaro seats, purchased in '82. Amber fogs below the front bumper. No AC (who needs AC, just lower the windows!); last car w/o AC.
Sold it to a HS kid in '85, six months later I drove by a body shop and there it was, much worse the wear. Hope the kid was ok.

I actually test drove a 1971 1600 around 1980 or so. The clutch was shot so I passed. It was still a sweet car.

Mine was a '79. Gold metallic color. This one had a dealer-added aftermarket A/C, which actually worked pretty well. I did a lot of driving on the interstates in Washington state and the Highway Patrol used radar, so I had a stealth CD radio in it. My handle was the "Golden Breeze" (since a scirocco is a desert wind.) When I moved to California for a better job and then went to graduate school I had to drive about 20 miles each way. I got the bright idea of trading it for a more economical car. A VW dealer who was getting out of the retail business offered to trade me straight across for an '81 diesel Rabbit (I'm sure he flipped the Scirocco in about a day since it was pristine.). Anyway, that little diesel bunny turned out to be one of my favorite cars. It was exactly what it claimed to be. It was reliable, got about 42 mpg, and couldn't pull the cork out of a champagne bottle. I ultimately sold it to a coworker who, with her husband, used to go to Baja California on vacation. They towed it behind their motor home and drove it all of the time they were down there, They finally retired to there, and last I heard were still driving it.

The green coupe in Germany is an Opel Commodore (series b) circa 1972-6

They were sold here in lower levels of tune although the hottest versions were generally restricted to LHD markets so we didn't get those.

We also never got the Admiral nor the Diplomat...

  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,225
The Wolfsburg parking lot does have mostly VW products but as well as the Alfasud (lovely car if a trifle prone to rust) but there is a maroon Renault 4 close to the nearest tree.

SM with USDM/DOT headlights, these were official imports for a brief moment.

I see a notchback G-body in the background, so not before 1980.

Too bad the SMs sent to US and Canada had fixed headlights instead of the covered headlights that pivot in the direction the driver is turning for better visibility.

I loved my bought new 1980 diesel rabbit too.
I wish I had taken a photo of its waiting in line with the tractor trailers at the diesel fuel pumps on any of the Interstate Highways' fuel plazas.
    Final mileage - 289,000 miles.

68 charger back left by the building. Behind a Datsun PU a pair of Corolla coupes and a gen 1 celica. Maybe the pontiac dealer sold Toyotas too (certainly a better long term plan!)

All I know about this pic is that it is 1960s California. It could be an airport but whether it is LAX, SFO or somewhere else I do not know. Expands very well.

Funny, I think the car on the left near the back of the Pontiac dealership is a Barracuda.
In the airport pic, a 63 Ford Ranch Wagon. It doesn't seem to have the wood side trim.

At the mystery CA spot, behind the 63 Ford wagon (also maybe a Country Sedan?) beside what looks like a white 64 Fairlane, appears to be a Datsun 510 wagon. Oldest car I see looks to be a red 55-56 Buick 2 door HT at center L, adjacent to a person's head.

I see one of the Corollas in Aberdeen is a hardtop coupe, a quite rare model today.
