I'm curious as to what kind of camera setup this is. There's no visible outside camera, but there's a forward view and another view that makes it look like a drone is flying in front of the car.

I'm going to be 70 in about year and I'm offended.

My hero is a guy we went to buy some home made horseradish for my father in law from a local farmer back in the late 80's.
We didn't see a place to leave the money and there was no answer to knocking on the door.
Found farmer Griswold in the barn underneath his John Deere tractor changing the oil.
He said he had to stop leaving the cash box outside because people were leaving the horseradish but stealing the money out of the box. He was 93 at the time.

My daughter is cheering for Butler University at nationals in Disney. They just beat Morehead State for the division 1, small gameday championship. Tomorrow is traditional competition with more stunting but the outcome won’t matter as much since we are playing with house money at this point.

That is very interesting. One of the original settlers to the town where I grew up, Helix (Oregon), was a Griswold. He was a doctor and built a large brick house, which doubled as the hospital in the community. I don't recall his first name or any other details any more, but my school, which was built in 1921, was named after him, though I am not sure if he was still alive at that time. IIRC, the town was founded in 1882.

To bring this back to the official topic of dishwashers and other home appliances... Got some cash for Christmas and decided to splurge on replacing the battery on my old Dyson stick vac that I use for everything. It was still sort of working, but the high speed mode would cause the battery to immediately die. Replaced the battery, and it started acting like the filters were clogged. Replaced filters, same problem.

Decided to return the battery to Amazon and buy a new Shark to replace it. Read the bad reviews on the Shark, decided to take a second look at the problems with my Dyson. The stupid power head was clogged with dog hair, and I know I didn't troubleshoot that part because I remember cleaning it out not that long ago. So, all okay for now.

Ended up buying a cheap corded Bissell upright from Target to have as a backup. It's clunky, but it's lightweight and it works. I previously had a cheap corded Bissell I bought for my first apartment in law school, which I kept around long after I stopped regularly using it, having been given the Dyson and a Roomba. After that, I used it to clean the basement and sometimes the rugs, but after a few part replacements, it finally fell apart after ~15 years and I left it by the curb on garbage day a couple years ago. I'll be thrilled if the new one lasts that long, despite the fact that it will probably get minimal use.

Five year old me would be thrilled at the prospect of a new vacuum--my love for things mechanical started with them, progressed to computers, and I guess it's now fully realized with the car obsession.

And I am suffering the consequences of trying to get things done outside prior. Not that I did anything strenuous, mind you. My ability to walk is now greatly diminished and I'm isolated to the couch for the near future.
Getting old is not for the old.

I don’t mean to be harsh on my contemporaries (also old) but as nice as a surprise gift for a grandkid might be, I’d do a bit more research all the way around to see if they would actually want it.

my guess is the split shot is from a camera on the windshield that has front and rear facing lenses. The front view has to be from a car ahead unless she has one heck of a good drone!

Also... $600/mo is a normal payment for a $30K car. It isn't any more extravagant than buying a $30K for a teenager. $30K at 7% APR for 60 months is $595/mo.

So, the problem isn't the dealer or the financing. It's a buyer problem. Unfortunately, there aren't any good workarounds for it. Sell the beater they're driving to supplement the payments, and start driving the EcoSport?

I don't want to watch a 3 minute Mecum hype video. I saw elsewhere that apparently Jerry Seinfeld owns it and wants to sell it. So it didn't sell?

Most of these antique car auctions are shark tanks for people with too much money and too little sense. I saw a different video of the proceedings there the other day and it is like putting yourself into a brainwashing session to separate you from your cash.

The Arteon joined us 4 months ago on January 14. In that time I have only seen 3 others in the wild. I know not many were sold, but wow. I have driven it about 3200 miles. It is averaging about 22 mpg in city driving, around 29-32 mpg highway, 28 mpg overall on PUG. That is about 4 mpg less than the Passat. It is a heavier car with 4 motion awd, 268 hp vs 174, so not too bad. It is a pleasure to drive. Not fast compared to other contemporary cars but quick enough to make me grin.

I had it wrong on the EcoSport purchase. It was for the wife to drive and for the son to drive when he got a license. The wife reluctantly drives and wants a small car. Their other car is a Bronco.

I think they screwed themselves on that purchase. I think the EcoSport replaced a Fusion that the wife drove and didn't like especially after the wreck.

I think they're toast at the mercy of the insiders market sale by FoMoCo of the EcoSport after return with a larger loss than necessary for which they'll look to our friends for recovery.

So they don't need a 2d car that the wife will drive? If so and they want to drop to one, the come up with the difference and sell it privately (or try Carmax/Carvana) seems like the only way out unless they want to take a repo on their credit. If they need a 2nd car anyway, getting rid of it won't help.

After teasing us with temps in the low 40's the next three days are all going to be single digits for the highs and as low as -10 for the lows.

Well without knowing the specifics it's hard to pin down the exact numbers but I will take a stab at it. if the loan was at 10% with a $30,000 loan for 5 years does come up to $637.41 a month. Since it is a 2022 model bought new I would suspect at least two years of payments have been made. So after two years of payments the value of the loan would be just over $20,223.

for 6 years it would be just over $555 a month with a loan value of $22,283 after two years of payments.

I would suggest selling it privately or someplace like Carmax, it's worth checking into.

They might consider refinancing the loan at a lower rate.

We were looking at SUVs a few years ago, and when at the VW dealer the sales guy was leading us to the Atlas herd. We passed a few Arteon's and I commented that they are nice cars; too bad there is no market for them.

You’re going to really like that multi-tool. IMO, it’s the best invention so far in this millennium. Get the blades online. They’re a LOT cheaper and just as good as the name brands. I think they all come out of the same factory with different names on them. At least that’s what I’ve noticed with the ones I’ve purchased so far.

I was in HD yesterday and they had a sign up that they needed associates PT in a bunch of departments for $16.50/hour (oddly though, department managers only start at $19.50). If they issue is really being a little short on cash flow, a part time job can be the most logical solution. Sounds like there is more going on in this particular situation!

12 hours/week is ~ 50 hours/month. Call it $14 after taxes. That is $700/month.

That certainly changes things. If money is a problem definitely sell the Bronco (assuming they’re not underwater on that too) and pay off the EcoSport. I just don’t see an upside to doing a voluntary repo unless they never plan on using credit ever again.

Then you start over with nothing down, and prices will have gone up 10 to 20%.

that would be why some people just lease each time. But you have a chance to sort out your finances. And at least are cost fixed with a new, under warranty car.

Thanks, seeing that my next project is to paint the railings on the stairs starting next weekend I intend to try out the multi tool to sand it down. The multi tool did come with some blades.

The smart thing to do is to keep the car for a while after the car payments are done. Cars today can go the long run. With two cars we never have more than one car payment at a time. Right now we have none.

My now BIL had a Maxima he detested but was buried in negative equity. I helped him find a Mercury Milan that had 0% interest at the time so he transferred as much negative equity as he could in the loan so he could it off interest free. Alas he only kept that for 2-3 years if memory serves before picking up a BMW 5 series and keeping the cycle going.

Going into C43/Club Sport withdrawal; the drive is still a bit of a mess. I could probably get both out if I had to, but the Club Sport has only seen salt once in 30 years and there's no point in driving either in the frozen muck when we have the Wrangler and X1. We ran some errands in the Wrangler for my elderly uncle but other than that we are staying in.

I think I figured it out, there has to be a lead vehicle, and it also looks to me like a roof mounted camera and a separate interior camera facing her. Then, the lead vehicle gets edited out of the final video from the roof mounted camera, and the roof mounted camera gets edited out of the video from the lead vehicle. Thinking about that makes my brain hurt, but I'm sure software can do amazing things these days with just a few clicks.

you can see the dashboard in the driving shots looking ahead.

Pretty sure they just get some footage from a lead car and splice that in, to the bulk of the driving shots where it is not in front.
