Sump pump update - plumbing company came out at the promised time, did the appropriate diagnostics, and I got a new pump (which is an excellent brand per @nyccarguy, someone actually in the industry, as well as my own 30 second Google search). The price was reasonable. I halfway expected a recommendation to "upgrade" by installing a separate, above-slab sump for the washer to drain into (which I think may be current code, but not required to be retrofitted for a repair), but they said nothing. Very professional and good workmanship. Highly recommend ASI Plumbing for those in the Louisville area.
The next day we went to some county govt offices in DeLand and were amazed to see all of the local folks wearing cotton undershirts under their dress shirts which were under their suit jackets. d.
You found people in Florida who own a suit jacket?
This was back in the Reagan administration, but yes. At least during our introductions.
Solves the heat/humidity problem. I loved seeing all the pictures and was a little jealous, but I also wouldn't want to be there with so many things, including the airport, closed.
We ate at Chick fil A today where we are friendly with a Jamaican woman who works the floor. She said she just came back from Texas where she visited relatives. It was the first time that they had seen snow and were ecstatic.

My neighbor has a new fancy car every week, usually two cars. I figure he must own or work for a high end leasing company, or he must be a drug dealer. This week he has an 2025 Audi RS Q8 performance model that looks great....they call it gold but it looks like a brighter type of tan color. This picture doesn't do it justice....they only cost $156000.
More doors and trim were done today. Apparently the primary bed and bath are complete.
To answer a question that was posted earlier, my stepdaughter uses a brush for the detail work on the doors, and a 4” roller for the rest. These are not 6 panel doors, but a rectangular panel and an arched panel. The doors are taller than standard size.
I know that many were put off by its style but I preferred the Mark VIII. I actually liked the quirky looks and the 4.6L 4 valve was better in my opinion than the old 5.0 (290 hp vs. 225hp.). When geared properly in the LSC trim it was actually fast.

RS Q8 is incredible. A friend’s son-in-law just got an SQ8 in that same color. About $115K MSRP, I think.
I like......I saw one for $156000! They haven't used that colour since the 50s, but it sure does look pritty!
The color is Sakhir Gold
Thanks, the last time I saw that color it was on around a 1950 Austin....and it doesn't seem like gold...more like beige but it sure works on the Audi;

I kept watching to see what @driver100 did with his 2014 w/o backup camera. I hoped to do the same to my Cruze 2015 with no camera.
As to living on the edge..., life with no backup camera reminds me of some of the elderly drivers I've seem parallel parking and doing other parking lot maneuvers through the decades. Go until you hear something hit. Then go forward until you hit... That's life without a backup cam for ME in tight spaces. The 3 mirrors still leave me uncomfortable.

I will go back to 3 mirrors when car makers go back to designing cars like a 1970 Volvo that had lots of glass and almost no blind spots. Oh, and actually only 2 mirrors (no passenger side ones in those days).
today's designs (like our RDX) have such massive blind spots to the rear there is no way to get full coverage with just a mirror for something directly behind you. a golf cart could be parked right behind me and would never see it.
I watched a review of the 2025 updated Maverick yesterday. I knew they updated the screen and infotainment platform (now modern Sync). But I discovered that they also added front and 360 degree cameras to it. That was cool to watch in action. I want that on my next car!

Not having a backup camera takes a lot of adjusting. You have to be far enough away to be able to see the lines in your side mirrors. When you have a backup camera, you take a lot for granted. Now that I have a real cell phone I could just by a unit that has the camera attached to the rear license plate, and the picture is sent to a cell phone. But that sounds like more trouble than it is worth. I have learned to live without a BU Camera.

360 degree surround view is the only camera system I want. Otherwise I find parking sensors much more useful than one rear camera.

I love the cameras on both our vehicles! I wouldn’t buy a car without one. My self-worth is not dependent on my ability to park and back up without a camera.
Back in 2018 my wife and I were happy to buy our new Honda CR-V that was built in Canada. From my pov Canada is the US's most important ally in the whole world. Anyway, I'm sad that tariffs are apparently going to be placed on Canadian goods, including cars. Hoping for continued positive feelings overall between our two countries, but it seems like damage is going to be done not just economically but in a larger sense.

The backup cameras don’t help where I need them most; backing out of a parking spot between two bro dozers or mamouth SUVs that block your view in both directions. You need a periscope to see the cars racing down the aisle or the people walking glued to the phone.
Yesterday as I gingerly backed up a woman almost walked into the side of my car as I was about halfway out and then looked at me like I did something wrong. I miss my old cargo van that had a loud backup beeper.

My GTI would shock you. With the backup camera and rear cross-traffic alert, it's amazingly safe. Also, the VW's camera is covered, until you shift into reverse, so it's always clean.
Just rented a car for eight days with no backup camera, and it was like being back in my old BMW. (the backing up part, anyway)
Another thing we appreciate from Canada are these tomatoes from Costco, which are the most flavorful and sweet store-bought tomatoes we've ever had. We've been getting them for years. They cost more than the other tomatoes at Costco, but are worth it for us. Purchased a few days ago for 7.49 for 24 ounces, or about five dollars a pound. And so if the 25% tariff does go into effect that might mean this will cost around $9.30 in a month or so? Still probably worth it to us at that price, but that's getting to be a lot for a package of tomatoes. Guess we'll see how much it actually goes up.

I cleaned the back up camera on the Arteon. It is set up just like the GTI. I found the image projected was a bit cloudy in a few spots. With the car not running, parking brake engaged, I put it in reverse. The camera was exposed and I took soft damp cloth and wiped off the lens. Voila, clear now.

Had to go out to move snow again. 2-3 times a week now it seems. Not good since a month ago our plow guy (we share a private road with the neighbors so no town plows) and it was getting pretty nasty with hard pack build up. The 4” last night really made it bad. I did part of the driveway with the shovel and it was brutally heavy stuff so I got desperate enough to ransack the garage for the manual on the snow blower and dragged that out to the driveway. 2 minutes later a different plow guy shows up so I put it back away.
Luckily a neighbor knew a guy who would take us on. So I had him plow my driveway too (I had not done much). Watching that was satisfying. Best $25 I spent in a long time!
Our RDX is terrible with the lens getting mucked up. Making it somewhat useless exactly when you need it most. I’m in the habit of wiping it with my finger when I walk past the back end of it.
Mazda has a similar color they named "Zircon Sand" which I dislike, as I do most of those sort of shades, all of which look like "Metallic Mud" to my eye.
My guess is ultimately Canada will end up spending more money on defense. The US will gladly supply a lot of that hardware.
It would be cheaper and more effective to pay the U.S. to protect Canada.....our military couldn't fight off a pack of squirrels. Most of our ships and subs...the few we have don't work. We only pay half of our NATO bill....it is embarrassing. Our current government is too busy trying to find ways to waste money.
OK, let’s play a little guessing game. How much do you think they are asking for this 21 year old truck with 197k miles? Private party. Winner gets a cookie.😄
