The last few days I've been listening sometimes to a Canadian news station, sirius/xm 169. There are already widespread boycotts of all US products in Canada, which I'm guessing will mean the loss of thousands of American jobs soon. Also the feelings between the two previously close allies have changed. For instance, there was booing by some Canadians during the singing of the US national anthem at the start of a sport event a couple of days ago.

For me personally, I've been thinking for many years that I'd like to take a driving trip across some of Canada with my wife, but now with anti-American feelings growing in Canada we plan to put that off indefinitely, and probably it will never happen. I wouldn't want a trip like that, which is supposed to be relaxing, to become stressful because of our nationality. Sigh. Guess we should have done that trip earlier and not put it off...Oh well.

Anyway, my guess is that in the next few months these tariffs will have almost entirely negative effects: the stock market will probably go down, inflation will go up, jobs will be lost on both sides, and our closest and most important ally in the world has already been alienated.

In terms of vehicle production, it's possible that in the long run that some jobs will move to the US, but at a cost that makes this seem extremely unwise to me. Part of what linked us together with Canada, of course, has been our shared prosperity. Both countries did well with free trade between us, and often friendships were forged in the process.

Finally, the threatening of the sovereignty of any nation is a serious thing. Canada is a great country, with a long and proud history. I'm ashamed that this has happened, even if some think it's halfway a joke.

Well, Canada announced around $1 billion in US-Canada border security measures last week which seemed to get ignored. Trudeau said on the weekend that he had tried to talk/meet on numerous occasions over the last couple of weeks and all approaches were ignored. Some have also pointed out that illegal items/people entering the US are the responsibility of the US Border Patrol.

Even though our PM was widely disliked to the point where just a few weeks ago he announced he was stepping down, he is getting widespread support for his speech on the weekend, something I never would have thought possible a short time ago.

My 2003 leSabre had that feature. If turned on, anytime the car went into R, the right mirror would dip to the present direction aiming down to the curb.

The euro models only dip the right hand mirror, if the control adjuster is set to that mirror. If you don't want it to dip, you leave it in the neutral position.

I am a big fan of convex mirrors (probably a side effect of learning to drive with a windowless cargo van). I put them on every single vehicle I own. And, I even put them on quite a few rentals, too.

@benjaminh Your remarks are sensible. It is too bad about the boos for the anthem, I think it was a quick reaction to try and hit back from Canada being shocked by tariffs from a friendly country.
In some ways, Canada does need a wake up call, our border security is weak, immigrants aren't being vetted properly and there are too many, we don't have proper defense and we only pay half of our NATO bill. I am embarrassed that we don't do our share. This is a wake up call.
Free trade is a win/win for both countries. Last time tariff threats were made the strawberry farmers in Florida were up in arms, they sell a lot of strawberries in Canada.
I hope this incident leads to solutions.....solutions that will make Canada and the U.S. stronger by working together, for the benefit of both.

Follow-up on the query I posted regarding Sarah -n- Tuned's car reviews (which feature video from multiple angles, sometimes including a lead vehicle): She recently posted a Q&A video and said that she had to drive every road twice when doing a review, which answers a lot of my questions because it seems like the two completely separate "reels" generally line up very closely when spliced together.

My 2020 Legacy Touring XT could drop the mirror, and you could set it to where you wanted it to be.

It had a backup camera too. It had a 180° front camera too.

I tried a few things trying to get the passenger mirror to slant down but none worked....and I can't use the one using the "Memory" button for the seats because it doesn't have settings for the seats.
But, what I did do was when I had to back up, I pressed the button to adjust the passenger side mirror, I slanted it down, I could see the line and the bump at the back of the parking spot. When I was in I manually put the mirror up...I can live with that.

The mirrors in the Ariya seem to move themselves upward. I have no idea whether they are memory mirrors (when I save the driver's seating position, it gives a vague "driving position recorded" or similar message). The only other thing I can speculate is that the automatic folding mirrors also cause the glass to tilt up a little.

We have had the C250 for 8 years now.
It was cold the other morning......I never looked before but I was surprised it actually has heated seats. It was 44F so I actually used them, for the first time.
Not a bad idea @stickguy using the manual. I'll try that one day, but one poster on the MB site said that it has to be an option on the car in order for you to have that feature.....I doubt if the C250 would have any extras....if it doesn't have a backup camera or lane change warnings what are the odds for moving mirrors?

It serves it's purpose, it gets me from A to B and it is a pleasure to drive. Actually, I like that it is basic.....press the start button, put it in drive and go...not a million things to check or useless OFF/ON to switch off, less to go wrong.
It looks great in red, it has sporty spoiler, it is more fun to drive than an oldman's 2015 Genesis!

Before the snow melted completely off the driveway I took the C43 out to see how it handled the remaining snow/ice. The AMG Performance 4Matic AWD system has a fixed F/R torque split of 39/61 and low and behold, even with all the stability systems enabled it is easy to induce some entertaining oversteer with the accelerator pedal. It's probably the most neutral handling car I've ever owned; powering out of a corner you never have a hint of understeer- it just goes. I initially thought a fixed F?R torque split was a bit of a downgrade, but in practice it just isn't. If you could set the transfer case to send 100% of the power to the rear on demand it would be perfect; I miss the ability to do burnouts...

LOL! Doing spin outs in the snow is one of my favorite teen memories. Good training for winter driving as well. The only car I own that can really do burnouts is the Mustang and with the traction control engaged it only lets you do a little chirp. I turned it off once and I could spin the wheels with such ease that I could have done donuts at will. I turned it back on because I’m too cheap to replace tires.😂

I can, on snow covered roads, get the back end to come out, just slightly, letting me indulge in my Scandanavian rally fantasies.

In CT, the doc fees have crept up a lot in recent years. $899 for my local Toyota Dealer. It was $599 when I bought the highlander almost 3 years ago. There is a Toyota Dealer near me that charges a $999 doc fee. I feel like a lot of dealers fall in the $599-$799 area.

I can't believe you've had that car for 10 years already. I also can't wrap my head around the fact that MY 2015 cars are 10 years old. I know you aren't getting rid of it, but have you run that through Carvana to see what they'd offer you?

Years ago the max allowable DOC fee in PA was less than $200. That lid is gone and it’s now around $450 with an allowable automatic escalator every year to keep up with the COL.

To the credit of one Subie dealer in the Burgh area, they actually state the DOC fee when they give the particulars for leasing a Subie. I couldn’t believe their honesty the first time I heard their commercial. So far, I haven’t heard of another dealer doing that. Makes you wonder if “honesty is the best policy”.

Our new matress set got delivered today.
The doorbell rings and the guy says "Hey blood, I'm here to deliver your mattress".

He had a bunch of tattoo's and looked just like the leader of the gang that was chasing the Warriors in the movie.
They were quick and efficient so the swap only took a few minutes.
Delivery to door was $40, setup was $40 and to take away the old set was $20.

Ohio recently raised their limit, and now it's on a sliding scale that will go up with inflation, each year.

It was $250, but I think it's around $355, this year.

CA is still $85, I think

I get updates from them (and CarMax) on a regular basis. I think the last number was just over $12K.

Trust me, if my financial situation were to change for the better, there would be a serious talk about replacing it (or, alternatively, me getting something more fun in addition to the Subaru).

IIRC, I don't think any of the "gangs" from The Warriors sported tattoos.

And, I learned that real gang members from NYC were recruited to be in the movie, due to budget issues.
