What is up with the Colorado Rockies? Why are they so bad?
I checked the schedule and the Yankees are playing them over the weekend.
Rockies record is 8 wins 42 losses. I think that may be a pace worse than the worst ever White Sox record from last year or the year before.

    It is.

Bad decisions, no strength in the farm system, and the altitude.

BTW, as of last week, they are batting .189 ON THE ROAD. It’s been forever since a team was under the Mendoza line on the road.

I also like adaptive cruise. I even use it towing our Airstream trailer. We recently came home 1200 miles from a vacation that ended in Nashville. I-40 to I-81 to I-84 to I-87 so almost all highway. I bet that I used the adaptive cruise 80% of the drive.

That's unfortunate! The weather here is picture perfect. Fifty degrees currently with a projected high of 67, light breeze, and sunny. The weatherman says that will all end tomorrow. :( The weather had looked nice in Conneaut, but I see now that our "iris bed" in the front yard, which I like to antagonize my wife by calling the "part-time swimming pool," is full of water again, so it must have been raining pretty good there recently.

I don’t think you can siphon off electrons. I’m pretty sure you need a flux-induced magna-generator thingy to do that. I seem to remember using one of those in my first year electrical lab. There has to be advancements by now but surely not a mechanical siphon.

Truck worked to earn its keep again. Got everything to the transfer station (so glad we have one in this town. No clue what I would do otherwise) in 2 trips. Then blew out the leftover debris from the bled with my leaf blower. This stuff would have trashed our suv if it had to go inside.

The Maverick put in some work this afternoon. Picked up 16 bags of mulch on sale at Home Depot, which is as much as you can comfortably stack on one of those roller carts (a shame they don't offer drive-through loading like Lowe's does [or used to]). That pretty much filled the bed area to the brim. That did maybe 1/3 of what I need to put down. Thankfully, there's an Ace close to my house that also has mulch on sale at the same price. To be continued...

Me too. It’s the same guy that cuts my grass. He is doing it in stages. Right now he’s doing a good bit of trimming the landscaping and will finish up with about 4 yards of mulch. Then he’ll knock on the door and I’ll pay him, just like I did last year. Although this year because he said the mulch will cost more, I think I’m going to owe him about 400 bucks was $375 last year.

I need to get some mulch this weekend. Going to try just 5 bags. Not redoing a big layer, just skim coat to freshen it up and fill in a few bare spots. Our beds are not that extensive.

The most mulch I’ve ever picked up at one time was in the Wrangler. I think I got 40 bags piled into it. Once the back door closed, I was sliding them in through the open sky roof 1 by 1.

Oh my gosh. Mulch and/or landscaping bark..... I've worked with enough of that stuff to last me three lifetimes. I have some stories too, but I won't talk about hauling it because I don't want to cause any GVWR trauma.

That said, does the mulch do a decent job of suppressing weed growth? Might be something we should consider at the Conneaut house. My wife is very anti-landscaping-fabric, and the weeds love her for it, but we need to come up with something. We're not there enough to just rely on time-tested gardening skills alone.

Our "guy" that was mowing the place for the last three summers chose not to continue this year, so we had to scramble to find another taker. Thankfully, we were able to enlist the company that manages the yard of the elderly couple next door to us (we share about 150' of lawn along the northern property line). They were only willing to take us on because our lawn wouldn't require additional mobilization time for them. We pay the same price as if they were, so I guess it is a good deal for them, too! Anyhow, it ended up being nearly three weeks since we mowed it while we were down there, and I guess the grass grew about 18" in many places during that time. Impressive!

Many of my neighbors buy mulch by the dump truck load.
I bought 5 or 6 one and a half cu ft bags and that was just enough(5 bags for $10).
The beach pebble rock I bought was much more expensive, 4 bags about $50.
I'm going to buy a couple more bags to make sure the low coverage spots are filled in.
Probably could get away with one more bag.
The rocks don't wear out as fast as the mulch. :)

the last few times I did mulch myself (back in NJ) we had it dumped on the driveway. either 2 or 3 yards. It was a big pile. But much easier than dragging bags home! Now, if I needed a lot done, I am hiring someone to do it. We just don't have much bed area at this house so not a big deal.

@xwesx - no clue on whether the mulch helps with weeds, I've just always had it. The fabric seems to help prevent big, deep-rooted weeds, but smaller weeds can grow in the loam that will end up on top of the fabric.

The weeds that grow on top of the landscape fabric are easy to pull out since they have no deep roots. The small spider roots of those weeds just live off of the junk in the mulch. One small yank and they are gone.

I just wish I wouldn’t have been in a hurry when we moved in here in the Fall of 1998, well really the following Spring when I did some of the initial landscaping. I ran out of the fabric and decided to get done what I could before it got dark one evening rather than getting more fabric and finishing up the next day. BIG mistake. Now I can tell where those spots were every Spring but putting down extra mulch in those areas does help but not as well as more fabric would have done.

I never did like playing in the dirt and landscaping is one job I’ll gladly pay someone to do for me.

If you need that much mulch why don’t you have a truckload delivered? Most landscapers offer deliveries by the yard in any quantity you want up to a 12 yard dump truck. It’s much cheaper although still a rip off compared to what the landscaper pays for it.

Alternatively, you could really cheap out like I do and wait until the neighbors hire tree trimmers and get a free load of wood chips.

Mulch suppresses annual weeds like crabgrass by blocking the sunlight they need to germinate. Less well on perennial weeds like Dandelions. Some mulch can be had with pre-emergent herbicide incorporated but you don’t want that near your vegetable garden. Dyed mulches sometimes contain arsenic which suppresses insects as well as weeds.

You’re right about landscape fabric. I prefer to use it because the weeds that grow in the mulch tend to be easier to remove with a quick hoeing.

Turns out I was wrong, my local HD does have a loading area. Got 25 more bags of mulch and laid it down, had one bag left, which I'll spread out somewhere. About $130 with tax for 61.5 cubic feet of mulch isn't terrible.

The garden center a few miles away charges $40 per 20 cubic foot "scoop," which should easily fit in the Maverick's bed, but only one at a time. I'd have had to have made three trips, and I only have the bed mat, so would probably scratch the other parts of the bed during unloading. They deliver (not sure of the fee), but there's a four scoop minimum, which is more than I can use.

That would be a phenomenal price. I think you mean 2 cubic yard scoop.

Think about the old saying, “full 9 yards” (like in concrete). Large dump trucks can’t handle 20 cubic yards. It always comes down to the decimal point. o:)

However, a Mercedes certified shop is only a short distance away. The shop said my insurance may noy pay for OEM glass; if they won't I'll just pay the difference. At least In KY there's no deductible on Comprehensive glass claims.

We are down in Hilton Head vacationing with my son and his girlfriend. If this region is any indication, I can see why Detroit killed of most all of their coupes and sedans. The only domestic vehicles I've seen in significant numbers are full-size pickups, Dodge or Chrysler minivans, Broncos and Wranglers- along with a few Corvettes, Mustangs and Teslas. German vehicles seem to be in the majority, but most are SUVs. I've seen a couple of Jaguars as well as more than a few Land Rovers. Mazdas, Hondas, Hyundais and Toyotas lead the Asian vehicle contingent- again with minivans and SUVs being prevalent. All in all, nothing that would make me want to trade in any of my current fleet.

The first Memorial Day weekend when we lived in SC, Mrs. j and I decided to go to Hilton Head for a long weekend. That started a trend until we moved back to the Burgh.

Memorial Day weekend pretty much kicks off the Summer season for beach towns and the water temp there was very nice. We went back the 4th of July weekend and the water temp was like taking a bath. I couldn’t believe the ocean could be that warm. Far warmer than Ocean City MD. where we spent several vacations when our sons were teenagers. While living in SC for 5 years I’ll bet we went to Hilton Head at least 3 times each Summer. I remember there was an outlet mall down there that Mrs. j couldn’t pass up. I think our Sons came down and joined us at least 4 times. Lots of nice memories.

Have a nice vacation before heading back to your KY retirement villa.
