I can't remember...did our post count get cleared when we went to this server?

Everyone remember this? The good old days! Things used to get heated

Inside Line was a trip- no moderation and the comments flew hot and heavy. A bunch of us used to concentrate on annoying one guy in particular. He just had to respond to every comment so he was akin to a cat chasing a laser pointer. He'd also been accused of being a shill for one manufacturer in particular; he vehemently denied it until a YT video was posted of him appearing in an ad for that manufacturer. Then he really went crazy; I think that he was the only IL participant that was ever actually banned.

Funny thing: I remember Inside Line well, as they had very well-done reviews and long-term tests of vehicles. But I don't remember the Forums being called that. I do remember forums around 1999/2000, but don't know if they were just called Edmunds Forums or Town Hall or something else.

The Inside Line comments were located at the end of posts made by the staff. You had the same username for TH as IL.

That was a little before my time. I do remember when I joined if the discussion drifted from cars, the mods would ask us to “get back on topic”. Don’t remember any dishwasher talk back then. Kinda boring to just talk cars all the time. After all, most folks have lives outside of cars.

The long and short of it is that the STI exhaust was causing marital strife. And the juice was no longer worth the squeeze. I could have swapped to the stock WRX exhaust but would’ve had $$ now and then at lease end.

Local VW dealer made me a super strong trade offer and invoice less incentives, dealer traded for me, and I took it.

Love it! Grats on the punch!

What can I cash those points in for? Are they like credit card points? I just redeemed my credit card point to get a $300 account credit. Can I get a dues reduction with these?😂

Didn’t you hear, tariffs were cancelled by the courts so that claim by VW rings hollow.

It was actually much worse than that; if you started discussing anything that wasn't 100% on point you would get your knuckles rapped. And woe be unto you if you had the temerity to post a link to anything other than an Edmunds site.

The thing I remember was the push at one point for more “granular” discussions by some newly-minted genius mod. So instead of a discussion about the new 2004 BELCHFIRE 8, they created a few dozen different discussions about the BELCHFIRE 8. They would scold you if you made a comment that didn’t fit into the correct pigeon hole, and would slap your wrist. I just gave up posting for a while at that point.

I sold my TRX to them. They were a PITA, though. Took the truck and gave me a check but then wouldn’t “activate” the check for me to deposit until their system showed my license plate as valid? That, evidently, takes some time. Of course, this was me selling a leased vehicle inside the first month. But they had the truck at Manheim weeks before paying me. I imagine they sold it and were waiting for their money before giving me mine. All very shady.

Exactly. It smelled when I parked it…. Oil change was due too. Coolant issue is still under warranty so Stellantis will foot that bill.

I don’t care what they get for it. In all honesty they saved me $5 a month and saved me two payments and a dispo fee. It was one of win/win deals.

If I had included the trade from the get go maybe there was another $1000 or 2 in the deal for me but I was satisfied with the outcome

That dealer is just a couple miles from me. He’s been around forever.

FWIW, my son has taken his 2018 X3 there for service a few times (bought it used from a dealer in the state of Washington a couple years ago) and has been pleased with their work and just as importantly, pleased with their people.

    $130k? Pass.

Honestly, I really doubt I’d ever pay that kind of money for anything short of a super car, even if I won the lottery. It is just too wasteful for me. Oddly, I’m totally cool paying hundreds of thousands for a fleet of vehicles.

That white pearl 2025 VW GTI sold on Monday as expected. They told me they had two other folks interested. But, just wasn't ready to buy this week. Hopefully the VW dealer near the house will get one in soon. They do have a blue one in transit but prefer the white pearl color. Since I'd rather buy at the closer dealer, willing to wait awhile longer.
