Altima rental again this week. Brand new, ~500 miles on it when I picked it up. This was an SV not the SR as the last one. Other than some sporty trim and no faux leather heated seats, I couldn’t tell a difference. Used about half a tank in 350 miles so thats good. Plenty of power for what it is. Rode just fine over some rough TX roads. Looks wise, I think it’s better than the Accord, maybe not quite as good as the Camry, depending on trim. Not wireless Carplay and not the biggest screen but easy to use and connect to, which I appreciate in a rental.

Negatives…interior materials are on the cheap side and I found the side view mirrors small.

If its what I needed and got a killer lease, I’d have BAE.

We don't get a lot of questions about Altima lease numbers. More Camry than anything else - perhaps it's the standard hybrid drivetrain. And available AWD.

They may move well enough on their own as the lower cost option to the Camcord so incentivized leases may not be needed. Still would think people would like the #s to be informed.

I’ve never bought a Nissan so I don’t know the dealer reputation at all. Given their recent struggles, I’d guess they would be willing to negotiate to move some product.

I had a base Rogue rental last week, 2wd. Over about 300 miles around Reno, I got 38mpg and didn’t baby it, AC blasting the whole time. Roomy inside too; I was pretty impressed actually.

Saw a new GTI in Moonstone Gray in our parking lot on Tuesday and really liked the color. Close to a cement color which ain't bad. Don't really like the white or the new blue color. Think another test drive is in order but same problem as last time, don't like the alloys on the "SE" model...prefer those on the "S" model instead. Not sure if they'd do a swap for me like last time. And now, the tire size is 225/40/18 while i've got 225/45/17 on the current Golf. Definitely a bigger tire with a skinnier sidewall meaning the ride will be different. So, a few things to think about before I do anything.

Plus, our 6 years old a/c unit is having some issues again and am just tired of it! It's been in the low 90's on a daily basis with the lows in the upper 70's. And it's only June! Called my a/c folks and the prices for a new 3.5 ton unit was $6600 for a Goodman unit and $7250 for a Trane! Again, sticker shock has paralyzed me from moving forward. They no longer carry the York a/c's that they were pushing when we bought in 2019. A crazy world we live in now!!!

Picked up a brand new bare bones Tacoma 2-door truck at the Toyota store Tuesday and the sticker was just over $33K. A 4-cylinder of course, and it drove just o k, not as peppy as the 6-cylinder by any means. Braking was interesting as the engine seemed to help the brakes come to a halt. A strange sensation coming to a stop. Luckily, not a vehicle I'd ever be interested in.

Tell ya what. If I could find one of these Equinox or Blazer EV leases for under $150 all in, I’d do it. The info is so darned spotty, though. In typical GM fashion, I can’t decipher the incentives.

Q - I don't think they are quite that cheap

    Sample Equinox

    $43.500 MSRP
    24/10 = $269/$269 OOP

    MF- .00212
    $4500 total incentives
    8.61% discount before rebate
    900 Doc
    1100 DMV
3.31 Tax Rate (EVs aren't zero tax anymore)

From what I read...you can do a 36 month and add the "Charge Up NJ" for an additional $2000 but it only yields $14 /month

"Auto Ninjas" has a pretty good thread going right now.

We had a 2001 Nissan Maxima. One of my favorite vehicles ever. It was our first really nice car. Did need premium gas though, so when the time came to replace it we got an Accord.
The CVT in the next gen Altimas and Rogues was really loud and annoying. Hopefully they are better now.

Old school tactics but it must work otherwise they wouldn’t do it. Some things never change.

When I see stuff like that I’d like to tell the dealer I only want to finance one dollar and make them go through the paperwork but I’m sure they’d tell me there is a law preventing that. I say turn about is fair play.

I was reading yesterday that Nissan USA is awash in new Muranos as sales this quarter have tanked after a promising start earlier after the new version was introduced. Despite decent-to-good reviews they seem immune to selling. Nissan has cut production at the Tennessee plant sharply and is offering dealers $2k in incentives for each one they take off their hands. Must be some deals out there.

I’m too lazy to look it up but I think the Murano is the Panther platform of SUVs. It is a very old design.

My Mom loved hers. She said it felt more substantial than the RAV before it and her current CX-50. More than a few times she also mentioned how “fast” it was with the VQ V6.

I’m pretty sure with the 2024 refresh the V6 is gone and the corporate 4 cyl is in its place

However, they have still not paid off the trade. They already sold it, so not only will they have me to deal with but also whatever bank it was financed with as well!

Coming up on 500 miles and ~3 weeks with the GLI. Not a ton of driving because I was traveling for work.

So far, I’m really pleased. Things that are good:
    (1) It is very fun to drive. The motor is the same torquey ball of fun that I remember from my original GTI. The gearbox is fantastic, as is the clutch. Not BMW good, but still very good. The piped in engine noise also seems to have improved though I have it turned it off mostly.

    (2) Built like a tank. The tinny, no sound insulation feeling from the subie is non-existent here. Solid thunk doors, no rattles - exactly what I love about the German brands.

    (3) Fantastic optioning and seats. Has everything I want, nothing I don’t. Particularly like the heated and cooled seats. I run hot and so enjoy having full surround AC.

    (4) Color/Style. Love the ceramic gray color with black wheels and roof. It’s sporty but not crazy obnoxious. Also still looks like a grown up car and, imo, punches up a class in looks.

    (5) Very efficient. Gas mileage on this thing is wildly good, even in spirited driving. Averaging 26 city, which is a full 8 mpg better than the WRX.

    What I don’t like…
    (1) The infotainment screen is comically small relative to competitors in its class. The software is fantastic, I just wish it had a bigger screen.

    (2) Beats audio is…meh. Not as good as the fender audio in the GTI.

    (3) The Hankook tires let down when pushing it. I could remedy it but it’s not enough to bother me in day-to-day.

    (4) Minor rev hang in first gear but nothing awful.

Really happy so far as is my wife.

I’m glad you both like the GLI!

Yes, it now a 2-L turbo 4. A bit less HP but gobs more torque. Also no more CVT in favor of a ZF 8-speed automatic. I read that this is on the previous platform but don’t know how far back that goes. Haven’t heard any complaints regardless.

And MAKE SURE you test that both Key Fob's work! Remember when I got the BMW the 2nd key fob was a dud, but thank god a new battery fixed that issue so no complaints filed.

When I bought the M240, I insisted upon two keys/fobs. The salesdude agreed, said the prior owner had both. When I took delivery, one key. I followed up/persisted and was told that prior owner couldn't find his second key. Salesdude came through, had a second key created and mailed it to me.
I never get surveys; too bad I would have done well by him.

That's the result I am hoping for, but afraid the $750 + Labor quote from Porsche of San Diego might cause the dealership to become cowards and criminals.

Decided to get offers from Carvana and Carmax on my Explorer, just because.
CV was 38,600 and CM was 39,600.
I used the mileage on it before my wife took it to Wisconsin for a few days, so another 1200 or so on it by the time it gets back.
3 year old grandson had to facetime me today.

Apparently, Nissan will extend leases a maximum of three months unless you have a new Nissan on order, so I could theoretically keep the Ariya until mid-March, 2026 instead of returning it this December. I'm assuming that I'd also get dinged for property tax in 2026 (if you "own" the vehicle at the beginning of the year, you owe tax for the full year), so that cancels out the benefit of getting three more months on a cheap lease.

I finally brought in the fuel log from the Sportage and uploaded it to my spreadsheet.

In the almost 9 months she's had the car, my stepdaughter is averaging about 30.5 MPG - far less than the EPA estimates. I suspect this is because a majority of her driving is done on the highway, which lessens the impact of the hybrid drivetrain.

And also - according to my wife, who rides shotgun with her - she has a lead foot. I've put every tank of gas into the car so far, and on the short drive home, I can get the in-car MPG meter to get up to 33-34 MPG, using EV mode exclusively in our housing development. Somehow, I suspect my stepdaughter isn't feathering the gas enough to enable EV mode a whole lot when not on the highway.

I'm putting 91 octane into it, and the most I've spent per gallon is $3.82, the least $2.94. A tank lasts approximately 3 weeks, so far, and she'll put just over 6000 miles on it in the first year.

I've been tracking the mileage of the Outback since I became the primary driver towards the end of 2019, and we're getting about 21 MPG since then. The worst tank was just under 18MPG; the best, a touch over 24.

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

However, they have still not paid off the trade. They already sold it, so not only will they have me to deal with but also whatever bank it was financed with as well!

    Truly a cluster
How can they sell your trade without having ownership? I’ve heard about dealers doing that but how’d they convince the buyer to go along? I know I’m naive but that seems like the law would be coming after them at some point.

Here's the thing, though. Assuming you always have the same number of cars, you'll always "own" one on January 1st. So, it's a wash. If it's an extra car you aren't replacing, that's another story.

Once, I turned in a leased Accord on December 30th, and we didn't pickup the new lease (also an Accord) until January 3rd. Skated on the personal property tax for a whole year. :)

This is why we use our Sportage PHEV mostly around town and keep it charged. Can’t remember the last time we bought gas. When we took it on our cross country trip, mileage was not great, not much better than the Buick Encore it replaced.

She really wanted the PHEV model, but it was outside of her budget, even with all the incentives factored in (special EV/PHEV incentive in CO) - and, we weren't keen on getting a charger installed at the house.

    Yep!

What’s gonna be fun is if they don’t pay it off by July 2nd when the next payment is due and Chrysler Capital wants “their” car back.

An example of the Ariya’s HUD in action. That is all.

The vanity plate on my Mazdaspeed 3 was GOJIRA (replete with matching Kanji characters). One day my son and I were out in the MS3 and some Goth kids in a decrepit Accord pulled up beside us and gave us the waves and thumbs-ups. My son and I thought it was odd that kids like that would be interested in a Mazdaspeed. It turned out there is a death metal band named Gojira, so those kids must have thought we were big fans...

Yeah, I like having the feeling of sticking it to the man, even when I'm not. It's like when payday falls on a bank holiday and you get paid a day (or more) early.

I’d say she made a good choice if she does a lot of highway driving. The gas mileage on the PHEV isn’t any better and it may in fact be worse because of the heavy battery.

+1 - I couldn’t even tell you how much my last fill up was without looking at the CC statement.
