In 2022 when I leased the EQE there was no sales tax on EV's in NJ and regular registration (about $100/ year). Then in 2024 they hiked the EV registration up to $325 / year (citing no gas taxes paid by EVs) and started taxing EVs at 3.31%. Now they just announced they will use NJ's full tax rate of 6.625% on all EVs.
That is a bummer... it was a nice perk while it lasted.
Don't have to explain it to this crowd but I am, of course, thinking about replacements for the JGC. By the time the lease is up there will be a new version out so I would definitely consider that, I'll give the 4runner a look too.

Sure it would have a salvage title but who cares if you drive it until the wheels fall off.
You, me and a couple of others are the only ones on here who would consider such heresy -- everything must be pristine, which is part of what keeps the car industry bumping along.

When you are dreaming, what's another $7,000? For the past few years I've LOVED the look of the 911 Targa4 GTS. Last night while helping my sister look for a new SUV to replace her GLC300 4MATIC, my 18 year old son and I were "building" a Rogue for her. She is going to get a Rogue Rock Creek from Aronochi on LH. Afterwards he jumped to the Porsche website. I noticed the only way to get a "4" 911 is on the Carrera 4 GTS, the Carrera 4 GTS Cab, & the Carrera 4 Targa GTS. I noticed that the starting price of the 911 Targa 4 GTS is a staggering $190K. For a mere $7K more I can get myself a 911 Turbo. Or I'll have to wait for @breld to get bored of his '17 911, then he'll pick up a Turbo, and I still won't be able to afford one. I manage risk for a living so my take is based on that experience but, there's a lot of variables to that decision aside from the stigma of driving a car with a branded title.
Is the damage mainly cosmetic or is the car's structural integrity compromised? What's the reputation of the shop who repaired it? Can I insure it? Do I feel safe putting my family in it? Is it my primary means of transportation?

I like the Buick Enclave better but that may be because you can get it with a white interior with blue accents, which would make most people's heads explode. The GMC has a Subaru-ish vertical tablet in the center of its dash which I don't particularly care for, but that's just me.

If I was getting another Enclave it absolutely would be the white over blue Avenir trim.
The Acadia was upsized again to meet the size of the Traverse and Enclave. I don't think you can wrong with any of them. If leasing it would come down to what has the best program.

Ha - I have to admit the design choice to make the top half black to blend in with the window is a nice touch.... of course at that price point (i didn't even look) there should be lot of "nice touches"
Yesterday I witnessed a high speed car chase. Driving home, I was instructed by WAZE to get off I95 at exit 4 instead of Exit 5. As I am driving northbound in the left lane and sitting at a light on US Route 1 which runs parallel to I95, I see a BMW coming up FAST in my rearview mirror. I hear tires screech and in the blink of an eye he's next to me (in an X3 ///M Competition with MONTANA plates) with the right side completely scraped front to back) in the opposite lane of traffic. He zooms past me and narrowly avoids a head on collision with a car in the southbound lane. Just as I say to myself, "where are all the cops when you need them," about 8 or 9 Greenwich Police Cars come giving chase.

This reminds of something similar that happened to me on the NJTP many years ago.
I was cruising along in the left lane probably 10-15 over and an Impala comes flying up behind me. I move over and let him go. Went back into the left lane and then a Range Rover, two unmarked Vics and a Tahoe all blow by me in the middle lane
Not a mile ahead there were marked cars slowing/stopping all the traffic. The guys in the above cars all circled the Impala, ripped the driver out and threw him in the back of one of the marked cars. Someone jumped into the Impala and moved it off the road and everyone moved out of the travel lanes.
Craziest thing I've ever seen and it happened in what felt like less than a minute.

I found a VW collision shop in my network and they primarily serve as the body shop for Porsche Bellevue, so I’m confident they can handle this. Car is getting dropped off tomorrow and they’ll start teardown.
Better news, even with an accident report, I’m getting buy quotes that are comically high - if I recover diminished value I’ll be more than whole and can swap into a non damaged version at nothing out of pocket.

Based on Safeco’s photo appraisal, it’s not totaled so they authorized tear down and repair for $3k. The shop supplement will likely add another $15k+ once they get in there. Two shops have been very confident that serious panel and welding work is required.
They may total it at that point or have gone so far they’ll do the repair.

Make sure you get your rental. Not sure what your coverage is, but if you have $30 per day ($900) or $50 per day ($1,500) adds to that bottom line and might just get you over the hump. What does the damage percentage have to be in order for them to total the car?

I did more yard work today. Another 2 tires (can't believe I found more), a bucket, pop up 53 gallon pail, 2 of those big paper yard waste bags, and another pile of sticks are now piled up on my driveway, waiting for a trip to the transfer station. Which means loading up the Maverick again. I may not put many miles on it, but they are important one! Oh, we are making our annual trip to the Jersey shore in July for a week's vacation. I don't think I could fit everything my wife insists on bring in the Acura (well, maybe but it would be stuffed to the ceiling) so need the truck for that too.
I could certainly get away with a beater truck for work tasks. Just can't find one up here (OF knows how hard it is) that isn't rotted to oblivion. and if it isn't, the price is absurd.

honestly, right now, if I had to replace it (say, a Camaro rammed into me!) it might just be one of those. A green Lariat AWD hybrid with the 4k tow package would be sweet. Can handle a trailer, good for snow, and comes with even more goodies like 360 and front view cameras.
@stickguy, The potential Maverick you described was something I would have bought if it was available when I was looking. At the time there were also some nice 24's available but they were under a stop sale. AWD hybrid was not available at that time.

Someone jumped into the Impala and moved it off the road and everyone moved out of the travel lanes.
Craziest thing I've ever seen and it happened in what felt like less than a minute.

Carvana keeps sending emails wanting my maverick. Same price $30,200. I barely paid more than that for it. Not bad over 2 years. I just don’t know what I would replace it with!

I mean, come on, stick.... you barely use either of your cars!
Okay. So good news and even better news.
Another Maverick?

Are you willing to tell us what the new shop is charging for the repair?

Based on Safeco’s photo appraisal, it’s not totaled so they authorized tear down and repair for $3k. The shop supplement will likely add another $15k+ once they get in there. Two shops have been very confident that serious panel and welding work is required.
They may total it at that point or have gone so far they’ll do the repair.
Make sure you get your rental. Not sure what your coverage is, but if you have $30 per day ($900) or $50 per day ($1,500) adds to that bottom line and might just get you over the hump. What does the damage percentage have to be in order for them to total the car?

Not entirely sure but likely if repairs exceed 70% of ACV. But I’ll also be filing for diminished value, which could put it over the edge.

The potential Maverick you described was something I would have bought if it was available when I was looking.
At the time there were also some nice 24's available but they were under a stop sale.
AWD hybrid was not available at that time.
