"Sure would have been nice to get a response, to my question"
You're saying that's not rude? Methinks it is. I gave you a response on your car, don't remember hearing/seeing a "thank you".
Yep my kinda place, plus I have few pair of Tony Lama's, so I'm set to go ......
Terry.
A coworker is thinking of selling his car. We are located in Tampa, FL.
Here are the details:
47k miles – warranty good until 55K.
Black with tan leather interior. No dents or dings, never in an accident or a fender bender (no repaints), paint is glossy. French fries and other fast food goodies have not yet invaded the interior.
Auto/steptronic transmission.
Has a moonrooff, CD player, auto everything. (I think it has the premium package). Standard alloy wheels.
I hope I did not miss anything!
I am wondering what you peg as the trade-in value, and the retail-road value.
Thanks!
All righty then, it's a 01 325 CI, black in Tampa, no help, miles are a little on the tall side, slider, steptron .. based on your description, trade side, in and around the ultra high $18's, low $19's, ... down Retail Rd, new sneakers, service is 100%, super ad, $22,9 *asking* and say see ya at the first $21/$22, color and the miles are not your friend here ...
Good luck and let me know ..
Terry.
Thank you for your reply and information. I still don't think by my saying I wish I had gotten a response was being rude. You are reading to much in to it. I was just hoping for a quick response, sorry if I ruffled some feathers. This is the end of the story.
NOW it's the end of the story - let's talk about cars.
The only reason I mention it, is anyone familiar with BMWs will know it immediately. It is permanently flagged in their computers.

31k miles!!!
Very good condition, one 60 year-old female owner, sits outside but not on the street, a few nicks, great interior. One major whack a couple years ago (~$4k repairs IIRC) but hard to tell, nicely repainted and fits seem fine. Don't know about the tires. About as nice a 9 year-old as you could find, especially for this model (kids love to wreck them). She's likely getting a new Civic EX sedan, wondering about trade vs. retail. Thanx!!
Could you help me with a trade in value/private value on this one?
1999 Nissan Altima*Light Gold*66k miles*auto*single cd*power options*cruise*GXE*Alloys*spoiler/sun roof*in phoenix Az.*In good shape*
Thanks
Trade side, $500/$800ishishish .. down Retail Rd after a great ad, excellent detail, $2,900 *asking* and you will probably see $1,5/$2,5 depending on how it runs and looks ....
Terry.
Umm...It's paid for? :-)
Howard Dean? No, but the first owner is a doctor down at the U of Iowa Med Center. Hmmm...
It was a good short term solution for a safe family car when we were in financial straits and needed a car to replace Mrs. Lance's POS '93 Cavalier three years ago. It's fulfilled that role nicely, and now I think it's time to move on. Mrs. Lance disagrees, but she thinks about cars about as much as she thinks about the toaster, so she's looking at it from the "no car payment" perspective. :-)
Thanks again, Terry. I was hoping to see $1,500 retail, with anything extra as a bonus.
Interesting little vehicle, it's got ALL the stuff and it has No miles, if the work was done "right", looks great, everything fits, deep sneakers .. then trade side, she should be seeing the the mid $4's, "could" maybe might get into the low low low $5's ..
Me personally, (unless the paint and repair was done by Attilla the Hun) I wouldn't waste my time, it would go straight to Retail Rd ... Great Ad, superb detail, $7,900 *asking* and away it goes at the first $6,9/$7,5, it should last about 64 minutes ...
Let me know on this one, I will be interested on what the other dealers say ...
Terry.
We have a 1999 Chevy Astro at work that we talked about trading in on a new van. I don't think we would get much for it, but I thought I'd check with the expert to see what it might bring in trade.
Here's the scoop
1999 Chevy Astro passenger van -- base model
7 passenger seating -- 2 seat and 3 seat benches with the two front seats
really stripped equipment wise -- only power locks and an am/fm tape deck. no power windows, no power mirrors, only front AC/Heat, no controls for the folks suffering in the rear.
Silver outside/grey inside
59,000 miles, and pretty hard ones too. Van has got a good number of nicks, scrapes, etc. some rust beginning to pop up too in out of the way places. Definitely needs new rubber too.
engine/tranny run great, and I think they'd continue to run for a long time. My thinking is that we should just keep it and run it til it dies.
We're in Joliet, IL, about 50 miles southwest of Chicago.
Thanks!
These are great little vehicles, and there is a "cult" following, I bet you sell it fast ....
Terry
Terry.
No paint fade/repair, no Popeyes chicken on the trunk, deep rubber, no runs hit's or errors .. trade side, in and around the mid to high $4ish figure, depending on the condition ... down Retail Rd, great ad, super detail, $7,495 *asking* and kiss it goodbye at the first $6,5/$6,9, miles hold this one back ...
Terry.
Thanks Again
Damon
Well for starters the crankers will flat kill ya, not having power windows in a van is like not having water in a pool, it looks nice, but you just can't use it ...
The miles are ok for the year, based on your description it's a little "rough around the edges" and we don't have hot and cold running air .. so figure trade side, in and around the $4ish figure, might "maybe" on a good day stretch towards the $5 figure, maybe ... down the path to Retail Rd, finish any service, great detail and ad, $6,900 *asking* and cut it loose at the first $5,9/$6,5, the miles might save this one ...
Thanks again for a great description, let me know what happens ....
Terry
Terry :-)
Black/Tan
Paint is good, body has several door dings (5 per side or so....damned thin Mazda sheetmetal)
Interior is very good except for wear on driver's seat bolster
Engine is in great shape
All the goodies except for automatic trans, which I don't count as a penalty on this type of car(glass roof, Bose, leather, etc)
Maintenance has been overdone
Has new clutch, and front struts
Front & rear bumpers have been replaced b/c of minor rear ending, frame was fine, only bolt-on components needed to be replaced, paint on these are beautiful
Tires are 75% or better
Car currently has a few modifications, but most will be removed without a trace
Whatcha think?
Oh yeah...you better not be talkin about pique-ing your nose, unless you're talking with an Inspector Clueso [tm] type accent.

...... YOUR KILLING TERRY....
Terry, how's that? trying to help you out...
The best thing about this car is the engine. Runs great. 135k miles, body damagein the form of rust. Mainly on bottom of rear quarter panels and front bumper sport skirt. Nicks and dings.
Crack in leather console. Otherwise, clean interior. Power windows and doorlocks. CD player, New Tires, Automatic. Should I even attempt a trade in?
Thank you
Can you give me trade in and private sale figures on my Accord? Here are the specifics:
2002 Honda Accord SE 2 door coupe
19,000 miles
White exterior, tan cloth interior
Tinted windows
Auto with 4 cylinder
AM/FM CD and Cassette
NO side airbags
Interior and Exterior are both in very good condition
Service is up to date since day 1
Tires have plenty of tread left
No problems at all, just looking to trade up to something more sporty.

What say you?
Thanks again for the help!

So...there are 5 little numbers on the odometer right now....but it can display up to six little numbers. Car is located in Nacogdoches, TX (East TX), and I've asked about enough cars that Terry should know that....but it will be sold in the Houston market since its a far better market for this car, and that's where I'll be living.
69k miles, to be sold in the Houston market.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
does that help?
if not, second is a 6 and the third is a 9.

What would they get wholesale for this?; and what is involved with that process? Also if it really is going to get wholesaled this week - can I get it for around $300 above that since it save them an auction trip?
Terry, (and anyone else who wants to chime in) can you give me the dealer perspective on my logic and anything I'm missing.
Ps..I'd only be buying with the intention of driving a little and selling it for a profit in a few monthts assuming I'm buying it under market - thus what I pay matters alot.

"Miles hold this one back" Huh??
Ok, how many miles should a 5 year old car have to be "sellable"? What is "average annual mileage"? This car averages out to 13K a year.
How often do you see 5 year old cars with 50,000 miles for sale?
Thats just how it is.. Personally I think 50k+ is about the kiss of death on used cars as far as valuation goes. If you were buying a used car - would you buy one that was going to go over 70k a few months after you took ownership of it; and if so wouldn't you be hoping to save a lot of money for taking on that risk? Also when looking used; do you look at years or mileage. Mileage=use Years=styling.
Good luck though.

Ooops! Forgot to add they are all used (yep, probably rentals) all with miles in the 20s.
I'm going tomorrow morning, so any info is quite appreciated.
RE: Annual mileage, isn't it now 15K miles a year? If some think 12K is "average", then 12K X 5 is 60,000. It adds up, and buyers have to brush up on their math if they think it's too high.
That was a darn good price, I hope that was you ..!
Terry
What makes you say my RX-7 will be headed down to Mexico? I figured it would go quick (haven't been any sevens in the Chronicle in a looong time), so I'm going to put the price up there fairly high.
The "S" has 51k, it's the right color, it's got the right stuff and as long it's got a good history, no repaints, then at auction it might see the mid to tall $19's, "could" travel into the low $20ish figure in the "Land of the Lost Angels", so at what price will your friend sell it for is between you and him, I dunno, I doubt the dealer will do it for free ...
The GTI is probably worth in and around the $9's, tall miles here .. down Retail Rd, $11,9 *asking* and say bye bye at the first $10,5/$11,5 ...
The 325i with 23k, $23,5 is cheap monies, grab it before someone else does ..
4WD non-sport limited .? .. right now there doing in and around the $23ish figure ..
now go away, your giving me a headache ...
Terry.
Terry
I won't ask about a car value for at least a few more um, months? hehehe
Thanks for the info!
I think we will keep it and just add another minivan to the fleet. You're right -- it really isn't optioned out the way people want a minivan, and it is hardly a gem.
But, if we do trade it in or sell it, I will be sure to let you know.
Thanks again!
It's metallic silver with a black leather interior, just under 90,000 miles, located in Kentucky. Options include 16" VW alloys, slider, heated leather, automatic. Body and paint look like it has 40k instead of 90. Brand new windshield, and the alloy wheels look new. Tires are Michelin Pilots showing 8/32" depth all around. The rear brakes might not pass a visual inspection, but if I kept driving the car, they would make it past 100k. Otherwise it is operating perfectly (for the moment)! A few months ago, Terry said it was worth high $6 - low $7 on trade-in, and $8,0-$9,5 as a private party sale (asking $9,9). Does this still hold?
Thanks, everyone!
Duncan
""......... Man, what's up ..? .. I don't know who's worse, you or Aka .. one day it's a Montero, the next day it's on the opposite side of the universe with an Audi or maybe a Bimmer ... I hope you guys don't live close .l.o.l..""
I had asked once before but got no response on the BMW or the Montero question - so I waited 2 weeks and asked again.
As you can tell the Montero is for me and the BMW (with GTI VW trade in) was for my buddy, as was my question on that.
Sorry if I rubbed ya wrong with my car buying style/thinking.
***Being a car dealer, does it bother you that I openly want to purchase something wholesale for $500 above what it goes for at auction? I
Still makes good business sense for dealer to do it even if the monies end up on my side cuz they took it in too high - I would think...
I'm going to be moving to Houston in the near future for a new job, and unfortunately that means all I can afford as far as housing goes is a condo with a 1 car garage....welp...I have two cars, and I'm thinkin one needs to go, and that would be my RX-7. Here's the scoop:
Black/Tan
