    Basically replacing the plugs.

2003's should have the plugs replaced every 30k.
  • lev_berkovichlev_berkovich Member Posts: 858
Thanks, Max. That is what I've thought. There is basically none of what you can manually tune in 2.5T, isn't it?

Can anyone reccomend a good leather conditioner/cleaner for the seats and dash of the volvo S60. I have used the leathercare from armorall but it left the seats too slippery.
  • lexusguylexusguy Member Posts: 6,419
Mothers. The Armorall\Turtlewax kinda stuff generally stinks.
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,405
Zaino makes a very good cleaner and a conditioner. Both are easy to use and smell good too.

...Lexol is very good. Connolly(?) Hide Food is also excellent.

Sorry for the delay. I should have been more specific, but Volvomax is correct. I have one dealer stating that I should have the plugs replaced at 30K miles and another stating that I shouldnt. It is a 2003 S60 2.4T. Thanks for the advice.

I bought the Volvo brand from the dealership. My seats look great after almost 3 years.

Is the below a decent lease deal or can I do better? MSRP $35,669, 36 mon/15k miles a year, $430 a month including tax. $1800 down. This for the 2.5T model. Also was wondering if it was worth getting all wheel drive. My wife drives a Audi A4 Quattro now and is used to all wheel drive.
  • grantchstrgrantchstr Member Posts: 371
My impression is that isnt a great deal - its the same % cap cost per month as I paid three+ years ago on a Volvo and interest rates are much lower today.

Does Volvo or any other aftermarket company make door edge guards for the S60? Specifically a product like these: http://www.dooredgeguards.com ... Unfortunately this company does not manufacture for Volvos:(
  • lev_berkovichlev_berkovich Member Posts: 858
I use generic door edge guards on my S80. The ones for $3.99. Works just fine. It stays on for about 2-3 years, and then I just through them away and buy the new one.
  • xmf314xmf314 Member Posts: 154
I use a clear product on the door edges of my S60 made by 3M and sold by: http://www.xpel.com/

I bought a bulk piece and cut some pieces from it to cover the door edges. It is nearly invisible.

I also had a some installed on my front and rear bumpers to help prevent the paint from being damaged.

I have had my S60 for more than three years, and so far there are no chips on the bumpers or door edges.

Can anyone recommend replacement tires for the OEM Pirelli P6 All Season on the 2.5T AWD? I'm primarily looking for tires that perform well in bad weather in the New York metro area.

I haven't been impressed by the handling of these tires in bad weather situations. One of them blew out after 20,000 miles yesterday. I also checked out tirerack.com and there weren't too many good reviews on these tires.
  • lexusguylexusguy Member Posts: 6,419
My experiences with Pirelli tires has generally been mediocre. I havent been that impressed with Toyo either. Since my cars are RWD, I cant really use AS tires. I use Bridgestone Blizzaks in winter, and Pilot Sports the rest of the year.
  • cmnottcmnott Member Posts: 200
I would recommend a dedicated winter tire and a summer tire. I did that with my T5 when I bough thec ar, took my credit and bought some summer tires, Dunlop SP8000E and it really mae the car more tossable and predictable. I am in Canada and an all season is a compromise. Average everywhere and the reality is no all season tire can match the winter/summer combo.

If you plan to keep your car for a while, it will pay off. Your summer tires and winter tires lifespan doubles and at the end of a 3 or 4 year lease you are saving yourself some coin in the end.

If you do go all season, I hear Michelin has the best all season out there right now.
  • grantchstrgrantchstr Member Posts: 371
As I reported before - after extensive research I chose the Nokian tire as my S60 replacement. It is the ONLY all season tire ALSO rated a snow tire. They are terrific.....
  • lev_berkovichlev_berkovich Member Posts: 858
Did anyone has an experience with the Yokohama Avid Touring. I am looking for the replacement all season tires for my S80 2.9.

I had OEM Michelin Pilot, which I liked, except the snow traction and the noise, then I've got Continental ContiTouring (strictly because I could get them cheap), that I did not like at all - lousy dry and wet handling, no snow traction, quiet at the beginning, but getting noisy as the tread goes away.

I will need a new set in 2-3 month. Any suggestions?
  • lexusguylexusguy Member Posts: 6,419
Havent tried those, but I've had some Yokohamas in the past that did a nice job. I've also heard good things about the P-Zero Nero, but I havent tried them myself.

What kind of incentives/rebates does S60 have ? I remembered they had several thoursands incentives last year. Does it apply to T6 and/or S60 R ?

Another question: The auto trans will snap torque from the S60R. Is it the same for T6 ? How much will be lost ?

    Thanks.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
The S60 T5 doesn't put out enough torque to overpower the tranny.

    The R goes from 295 ft/lbs to 258 ft/lbs.

Also, 1st and 2nd gears operate in a reduced power mode on the R auto. Full power isn't reached until 3rd gear.

    The R has a $4000 lease incentive

    The T5 has a $1500 incentive.

I would try the Continetal ContiExtreme Contacts. I have then on my 2002 Saab Viggen and my 2005 Volvo S60R. It has 3 treads - performance, snow & wet. Great tire for a great price.
  • lexusguylexusguy Member Posts: 6,419
The S60R and automatic just dont mate well. Volvo needs a new auto-trans for that car. Maybe borrowing a ZF six-speed from cousin Jaguar wouldnt be such a bad idea.
  • guyfguyf Member Posts: 456
We had good luck with Bridgestone Potenza's on our 2000 S70. Quiet, comfortable, smooth ride.
  • billykrebsbillykrebs Member Posts: 33
Where did you find the S60R $4,000 lease incentive? If I found that the decision would be all over.
  • guyfguyf Member Posts: 456
Volvomax should know, he's a Volvo dealer.
  • billykrebsbillykrebs Member Posts: 33
I don't question the incentive I just would like to know where I can find some info on it so when I go to the dealer I can reference it. A lot of times I go to dealers I mention an incentive or rebate and the salesman has no idea what I am talking about.

That is a good incentive because I am looking to lease.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
The Jag tranny won't fit as it was made for longitudinal engines.

Volvo has a new 6 spd auto tranny. Doubtless it will be available on the R in the near future.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
The incentive is a dealer incentive, so no public info is out there.

If a dealer doesn't want to share it there's not much you can do.
  • billykrebsbillykrebs Member Posts: 33
I don't know what the rules are of this forum, but if possible can you recommend a dealer in the Central VA, Northern VA, DC marketplace? One that may have an R w/ manual tranny in stock?

    Or can you provide assistance?

    Thanks for the help.

    Well,

alot of people seem to like Don Beyer Volvo. They have a couple of VA locations.

We have noticed a distinct tire rub on the front wheel wells in our 2004 2.5T when turning the wheel all the way right or left. These are factory installed tires. My wife asked about this when she took the car for maintenance and was told that it's a problem with the S60 and there is no real solution. Obviously, I wasn't thrilled with that response. Has anyone else encountered this problem and raised it with Volvo. If so, I'd be interested in hearing what response you received. I have not looked to see if this has caused any damage to the wheel well or tires yet, but I suspect over time it could do so (especially given that I live in the city and u-turns are not uncommon).
  • guyfguyf Member Posts: 456
This is not normal. What tire size do you have? Our S60 2.5T has the 17" wheels. With those wheels the Volvo factory restrict the turning radius of the car to prevent the wheels from rubbing the wheel wells. Could these have been forgotten? Were the 17" installed by the dealer and they did not install the stops? Is your dealer knowledgeable?

Let us know what you find out.

HELP! I was ready to buy the S60 until we put the back seat head rests up. The visibility was pretty poor. I want this car for safety, etc., but how safe is it with this problem? How have you resolved this?

Now I am back looking at the C class. Any thoughts on that?

    Thank you!
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Thats what the folding headrests are for.

M-B had them first BTW, since rearward visibility isn't what it used to be on any car.
  • grantchstrgrantchstr Member Posts: 371
If you think headrests are a visibility problem just wait until you get passengers back there! You comment is one of the funniest in memory.
  • should i?should i? Member Posts: 3
I should have said, that I will have to drive with the headrests up, because as they are now, they rest on my kids' heads.
  • should i?should i? Member Posts: 3
I was obviously talking about having passengers back there with the headrests up. I think you are funny!
  • guyfguyf Member Posts: 456
As Volvomax pointed out, you will have the same situation with the Mercedes. My wife and I have no problem driving the car with the headrests up all the time. She is 5' 3" and I'm 5' 7".

I have driven my 2001 S60 for almost four years with the headrests up and have had no problems with visibility.
  • lexusguylexusguy Member Posts: 6,419
The C70 coupe definitely had rear visibility problems, but as others have said, I dont think its an issue in the S60.
  • billykrebsbillykrebs Member Posts: 33
Ok. I found a s60R close to base for $41.8k. Has everything I need on it. Manual, premium pkg., climate pkg. That is it. With the current lease incentive of $4k what would a good monthly pmt. be on this car with 1st mo. pmt, tags & taxes at signing. I live in VA.

Also, how does the $4k lease incentive work? Is it just $4k off of the capitalized cost of whatever price you negotitate with the dealer? So, if I negotiate $300 over invoice and then subtract the $4k, is that how you arrive at your cap cost for this car? Then you use Volvo's money?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,771
i think that's right. only extra on the cap cost would be any fees you don't pay up front (bank fee, etc).

Volvomax, do you know what the current lease incentives are that are apparently getting ready to be released? I heard that from the dealer I am working with. I have been very impressed with them thus far and I feel loyal to them at this point. I do want to make sure I strike the best deal possible and would like to know what the new deals are before I sign. Apparently they are on their way soon?
  • grantchstrgrantchstr Member Posts: 371
Include an explanation of the "Lease Loyalty Bonus" in the answer!
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
The lease incentive on the R is $4000.

Nothing is planned as far as changes are concerned.

    Lease loyalty is different.

If you are a current VFNA customer whose lease is maturing you can recieve $1000 towards your next VFNA lease.

This cannot be combined w/ the $4k R lease incentive since the $4 k can't be combined w/ the VFNA programs.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,771
    hmmmmm... man, that's tempting.

do you know of any other incentives on the R? Carsdirect is giving me a price about $2k below invoice. I assume that's some sort of dealer cash, maybe?

Is that $4k on the lease independent of this other mystery incentive? I know its probably very wishful thinking, but $6K off invoice as a lease starting point would be incredibly sweet. :)

OH, and you don't happen to know MFs and residuals, do ya? That would be tremendously helpful, too. I know that, of course, varies, so how about just 3yr/15k as a reference point? Thanks for any more info.

  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Well, the S60 cash incentive is only $1500, so $2k under invoice is highly suspect.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,771
OK, well, is the $1500 able to be combined with the $4k lease money?

    Thanks.
