I think that there were a few coachbuilders doing conversions. I agree that they are not graceful with the top up, but top down, absolutely exquisite. A rather notorious British politicians, Alan Clark owned one.

I had (probably still have, in the attic) a model of one of these coupes by Corgi - it was a metallic plum colour I think - but I had never seen one until Essen this year...
I'll leave the other car for now - someone will get it.
no clue who she is.

From the front fender flares I am going to guess that it's a Cobra. i don't have any clue who she is either.

Yep, it's a Cobra!
He hit a truck while driving his Lotus Elan and that was it for him, in 1966.
IIRC Cobras sold in the UK all wore that AC badge, instead of the "snake" badge seen on this sideof the pond. I have a US sales brochure which labels them as Shelby AC Cobrapowered by Ford..

Cobra history is quite convoluted and peppered with law suits and all kinds of Shelby shenanigans.
I wonder if it is a Borgward?

This has been bugging me as I realised after suggesting Borgward that it was not fancy enough. Have ultimately placed it as a DKW Junior. Never seen one in the flesh but do know they came from Dusseldorf with some assembled in Holland. Also there is something about assembly in Ireland.
bizarrely, I recalled my schoolboy German incredulity to discover that the initials were a typical shortening for Dampfkraftwagen (literally Steam Driven Vehicle). I think that idea died rapidly. DKW were one of the constituent companies of Auto Union.
Was the Junior the last German 2 stroke?
Cheers
Graham
I think this may have been the last West German 2-stroke but the DDR had a few more years of these - Wartburg will still making 2-strokes until the late 70s or early 80s although they stopped them selling in the West for environmental reasons earlier than that - we stopped getting Wartburgs in UK from 1973, I recall.
Trabant went on well into the 80s before changing to the 4-stroke.

I grew up on GM, but looking inside his Galaxie and a very nice '67 Fairlane 500 at a recent cruise really drove home to me that, IMHO, the General had it all over Ford in interiors...just the seat trim of comparable models, things like armrests, window cranks, handles, etc.

Yup, the lack of an engine badge on the flank indicates it's not packing much heat under that big hood. IIRC anything from the 390 up got a badge.

She was out of the house and off to college by then and I had just gotten my learner's permit so I only got to drive it once. Took a couple of visiting cousins to the drive-in.
For fun, when (if) you watch Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives check out which red convertible Camaro Guy Fieri is driving - he seems to switch between the original '67 (with vent windows) to a '68 or '69 (without vent windows).
"OHC 6 Sprint" lettering (barely visible) on the lower flank indicates this option.

I've always thought the resemblance to the '65 Corvair coupe was remarkable considering that the 2000C/CS reached showrooms in 1965, the same year as the 'Vair. Who was stealing from whom?

The still is from Magic City which is set in Miami Beach in 1959 so it is chock full of 50s vintage iron especially of the upscale sort. It's also a pretty well-made acted and written series. (Starz, Fri 9P edt)

Rear engine vs. front engine... I'd say it was probably coincidence...

Oh there were plenty of differences but they also had similar styling and both featured IRS, a real rarity in the mid 1960s. I have a hard time believing there wasn't some "industrial espionage" going on.
