Quick change of subject.  I received an invitation from the local Casino to pick up a free gift in 2 weeks - a 750 ml bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label in a special decanter.  Never heard of Blue Label and I am not a "drinker" of hard liquor.  So I am not familiar with the product.  If any Scotch drinkers want to chime in with comments, I'm interested in your opinions.

Apropos of nothing: I met both the man and the car oh, so many years ago. I grew up in the same town where the Newmans lived and I was working for Taylor Rental. A barn on Joanne Woodward's mother's property was renovated (so nice...) and we were hired to supply stuff for a party there. I made a solo delivery, and shortly thereafter, Mr. Newman pulled into the driveway in his stock looking Volvo wagon. But, I knew... I was going to ask about the car, but he seemed busy, after brief small talk, he headed into the barn. I think he had some booze in the back of the Volvo for the party. I was taller than him, but he won the blue eyes contest hands down! Seemed like a nice guy.

I had s shot of Blue Label once. Good stuff that would quickly spoil a scotch drinker!

That bottle sells for around 200.00.

Sounds like a "keeper" instead of giving it away as a gift to someone.  I researched online and they said the Blue Label is relatively new and aged 25+ years.  Further, the article I read said it was one of the better Scotch Whiskeys on the market, but quite expensive.

Thanks for the info - sounds like you enjoyed it.  I don't know the difference between Merlot wine and Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon.  Nor the difference of Bourbon and Scotch.  A bit of a novice in those "tastes".

I had to get lens implants in both eyes when I was 38. My night vision was kaput- that's what sent me to the optometrist. He just said I had the type of cataracts that "young people" get- they cause blurred vision and severe issues with glare.

VANCOUVER – Imagine being able to see three times better than 20/20 vision without wearing glasses or contacts – even at age 100 or more – with the help of bionic lenses implanted in your eyes.

Dr. Garth Webb, a British Columbia optometrist who invented the Ocumetic Bionic Lens, says patients would have perfect vision and that driving, progressive and contact lenses would become a dim memory as the eye-care industry is transformed.

I had cataract surgery in my left eye last year and now I need reading glasses to read. I used to be myopic...read out of my left eye and saw distance out of my right. I needed glasses for over 20 years as contacts were too uncomfortable. Without the glasses, I was fine and used each eye to do what it did best but got tired of glasses. Saw an article in the local Sun Sentinel and it described someone with my problem and a local guy knowing how to solve it. The procedure I had was for "older adults". I called, liked what I heard and had the surgery 2 weeks later. I was "20/off the charts" the morning of surgery and "20/25" right after surgery. They said it would improve. Two days later, reading was a bit difficult but they said within a couple of months, I should be fine but would have to read at a difference distance from my face than previously.
I can read without reading specs except real small stuff and that's impossible. Decided to use readers as a way to see better so have different readers for different tasks. I knew going in this might happen but I can read without anything if it ain't too small. I no longer wear glasses all the time like I used to, which was the original goal, so in that respect, I got what I wanted. Would I do it again, ABSOLUTELY!!! I was almost 59 when I had the surgery and I have no problem using the readers when I have to!

Well, I'm legally blind in my left eye but it has nothing to do with cataracts. Toxoplasmosis ate the middle of my left retina when I was 10. Has made numerous attempts on the right one but they fought it off and now I'm on something to keep it dormant. During the transplant they took me off that because it slows cell growth and then the toxo hit my brain. Took more than a year to get over that. Between that and the TIAs back in 02 - good thing it's my brain as opposed to an organ I'm using.

Today your vision can be corrected better than when I had my implants; I still need glasses, but my prescription has not changed appreciably since I got the implants.

Got moveable lens when I did my cataracts, but if the light's not good, I need readers. Had Lasik but now need glasses for distance. Not so much around the house but definitely for driving, even though I pass the DMV exams okay. Did contacts for ~30 years and had 20-15 for a few years in my 30's. Ah, those were the days.

And here is what a finance manager says about unwinding a sale:
"It's an accounting nightmare," Eleazer wrote. "Commissions need to be charged back, even if the month has already closed and everyone has been paid. Your manufacturer's statement of origin must be retrieved from the DMV. Affidavits must be executed to retain the vehicle's new-car status; if you don't, you've got a huge depreciation on your hands.

I can't help but wonder if one of GG's two vehicles was a car with a history. If it were me, I'd want to see the full printout of GM's record on the car such as the service department can print out. And maybe there are other sources as well. However, I understand not showing any interest in records because now GG is focused on returning the vehicle since the service department and store haven't been effective at diagnosing. Asking about records would open the door to other solutions for MacConnell and GM.

I think there's also a history of the story with GM company in terms of costs of diagnosing problems that don't show a a trouble code or don't work right if operated by the computer system they use. Perhaps the store got punished for spending on customer-oriented diagnosis when no trouble codes were showing to assist in a cheaper diagnosis.

Imid...I'd like to know that, too. I can't help but believe, since both my late Mother and I had so many issues with the same brand, and also the same dealer that something is amiss with the cars they are selling, purportedly as new. Not sure what they do to orwith them. But, this is now beginning to look less and less like coincidence and more and more like having the wool pulled over my eyes.

I just don't know what that is. Kind of strange, none of the cars that my Mother or I had, had just delivery miles. They all had anywhere between roughly 200 miles and 2,000 miles. Does that mean something? Who knows.

But, at this juncture, I'm past the point of caring. Gimme my money back and we'll part ways never to cross paths again.

Me too fezo. Giving a person my age eyes that were 3 times better than 20/20 would be a cruel joke. One look in the mirror and I would probably run screaming from the room. There are reasons why our vision dims as we age !!

I understand once it is done your eyes are really good.....is that true?

When mine were done they did a Lasik-like correction of my vision,
for an extra charge (like orthodontists offices almost!), that correct
my astigmatism. The process is a little different than Lasik, which
they also do in their out-patient surgery office.

I have great vision with single focus replacement lenses, but I did get glasses to
do closeup work such as soldering circuit boards and to make my reading
easier. I also need them for driving in low light because of my monovision.

Accidents do happen, and the presciption for the implant was off on the
left eye done first. I have vision focused too close at about 30 inches.
The doctor panicked when they did the final vision test a few days after
surgery. He redid the presciption and the topical map for the astigmatism
presciption on the other eye--complete rework up. The optometrist had made
fun of me the next day when I told him I could read the text on the back of
my shampoo bottle in the shower through the plastic guard over my eye.
He insisted I was looking through a pinhole (camera) through the holes in
    the eye guard.

However, my other eye was dominant and it came out focused at about
15 feet. So like Sandman, I am monovision and use whichever eye
focuses. But low light gives trouble. I do have some blurred lines
from lights with my close focus eye in dusk/dawn and darker.

Not that anybody would care, but I actually got trifocal glasses
for driving and the closework. Prescription hasn't changed in 3
years. Perfect. Toss on glasses for micro work and toss them
on for driving if light is low.

Just got home.  The hospital admitted him, but because of a lack of rooms, he is in a "holding room" awaiting a room upstairs.

He called me and wanted to know how I could have left him in the hospital all alone.  Talk about putting me on a guilt trip!  I was there over 8 hours with him - feeding him, keeping him warm, etc.  and this is my payback!  Life is just wonderful.

I was up with him beginning at 3:30 AM this morning.  I give up.  No matter what I do for him it just isn't enough.

You 'da Man Mike. It is easy to see how much you love your dad. Best of luck.

Mike....been through the same thing with both of my parents. Love them both dearly. But, don't buy the ticket for a guilt trip. It's a bad deal for both you and your Father!

Mike--sorry to hear that your dad is in a bad place. You made a promise to take care of him till the end so you can't back out now. Be strong and be comforted in the knowledge that you have friends here at Edmunds and we send our moral support and best wishes.

My wife decided we needed new kitchen appliances. We ended up buying 4 pieces from Lowes.
The refrigerator was available to be delivered today, so I figured it was a good way to see if the brand(LG) we bought was going to be ok.
So far, so good, other than they are going to owe us some new door handles due to scratches we uncovered after taking off the plastic sheathing,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad. I can't imagine being in your shoes and hope that I would be as dedicated and loving as you should that time come.

Why bittersweet? I was happy for my kids when they graduated from high school, even happier when they graduated from college.

Just got home from the hospital a second time.  They called me because Dad was causing such an uproar they couldn't control him.  The doctor ordered sedatives which seemed to calm him enough so I coul go home and get some rest.

It seems his heart goes in and out of atrial fibrillation which could cause blood clots.  They have to wait to make sure he can handle Coumadin which thins his blood so clots can't form.  His nosebleeds have been controlled but could restart if he goes on blood thinners.  Sort of a "catch 22"!

They also started him on beta blockers to reduce the a-fibs.  Not a pleasant situation right now.  Spent 11 hours at the hospital today.  When I am there he is more lucid and cooperative but when I leave he pulls his IV's out and tries to get out of bed.

I hope I can get him home soon so he settles back to a more calm state.  If he remains agitated, I may have to put him in a rehab for a week or so.  I am at a loss right now.

My nephew has been in contact with Dad's cardiologist.  My nephew is an intervention cardiologist.  He said my Dad's treatment is consistent with his symptomology.  So that was a relief.

Thanks all for you good wishes and prayers.  I will know fairly soon what the next step is.

I've been there; I'm convinced that my mother had one overriding goal for the last two decades of her life- continually aggravate and exasperate me to the point that I would have a massive stroke and drop dead.
At least in the case of your father he doesn't cause those problems intentionally; Mom's actions were conceived with an eye to creating the the maximum havoc and misery possible.

Congrats, another milestone crossed and so refreshing to know your son was not a slacker in high school. Boys are becoming an endangered species as they are increasingly being outperformed by girls even in the hard sciences. That cannot be a good trend. By the way, was the commencement speech memorable as this oft quoted 2012 Wellesley High School "You're not special" speech? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lfxYhtf8o4

I am extremely proud of him and what he has accomplished so far. It was tough because my wife hung all of his school portraits on the wall for a little celebration after the graduation. When I saw how much he has grown and changed over the years made me a little sad. Sometimes I want my kids to stay 6 years old so we can have that fun all over again.
