16s are out. it already is!

plus they depreciate like crazy. I'm thinking that 33K is about all I would pay for a brand new 2015!

Looking for a trade in value for a 2014 VW Passat.
    SE with roof, no nav.
21000 miles, dealer serviced, 20k service done.
    Clean, no dings or scrapes.
    Tires about 60-70%
    Vehicle in NH.

Passat - since you didn't specify, I'm assuming it is the base 2.5 engine. I'll take a stab at $12k-12.5k. They have fallen $1k last week alone, so you might want to move fast.

The local VW dealer has a brand new 2015 Passat Limited for $20,700. With owner loyalty, that becomes $18,700. That is really going to drive down the price on a used one.
    Thanks for the info.
The car is actually a 1.8 turbo, with auto trans.....but I figure that might add 1500 or so to the value. Tops. A local dealer here is having a special-19,899 on a Limited Ed new 2015. About 4500 off MSRP. Add in the loyalty discount
and you are in the 17s. Some dealers are even talking about a 0% finance with 2000 cash back finance plan. Some but not all-I wonder why?
Add it all up and I think the value of any 2014 is pretty much in the pooper. A redesigned 2016 will be coming on the market soon too.

Q50 - hmmm... so that's not Premium nor Sport? In which case... hmmm... not much to go on. I'd guess maybe $27k? $27.5k? I mean, a Premium is $31k. Then I've got a base model with 5700 miles for $25k but another base with 10k miles for $28,750. So I'm kind of shooting in the middle, assuming the nav and roof would push it upwards.

I double-checked. There were a couple of premiums that were down in the $28k range, but the majority with under 10k miles were in the $31k zip code.

    Q

took a look at the blue 2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring. The dealer wanted me to check out a silver one. Same car but with lane watch and 5K miles. What do you think?

it looks like it was a lease turn in that was services at their dealership.

Saw both blue colors down here last December in both the 6 and the 3 when the wife was shopping. It really is stunning in person, makes the Mazda's look really special. As it turned out, wife listened to me once in our marriage when I mentioned checking out the A3 if she really wanted a smaller vehicle...never thought she'd spring for such a vehicle but she sure surprised the hell out of me!
We had to move a 2015 Tucson today and even though I didn't get to drive it, sat in it and turned it on just to see and feel it again. It was the SE version that I had but was red over tan...mine was silver over black. But I learned one thing, I made the right choice swapping it out for my Golf...no regrets with about 10 months on the clock. Any crossover is going to be just too big for me because I just prefer smaller vehicles...but today just reaffirmed my thoughts about not making a mistake last year!
Drove a Transverse and an Enclave back to back earlier and both nice vehicles with good bang for the buck. GM did real good with these and I know we see a lot of them down south here. But the best was a brand new dark blue over black leather Chrysler 300, had under 3K on the clock. They sure hit a grand slam with this vehicle, just feels more upscale than most think it is! Then saw a freshly traded 2011 BMW 328ix, red over brown, which needed a good detail. Had just over 58K on the clock, just over 10K per year, which really ain't too bad. The red drew me to it immediately and would've considered the Golf in red but the blue really called to me. Saw a black one like mine on the way to work this morning but it had the nicer rims that I really really wanted...looked frickin' sharp! But I do like a nice set of rims as they really can make a vehicle look outstanding!!

Only 5k miles? I have absolutely no comparables to that. If I extrapolate the miles, and take a WAG, I'd have to guess it would pull like $20k at the block, maybe $21k if super clean.

The majority have 30-40k miles and average $18k.

Thanks. They are showing it at $25K online and I told them I would consider the silver one only if they threw a stupid price on it. The blue one had a couple of dings and one rim was rashed. Even though it says certified on their website, they told me it isn't. We are taking another look at it on Saturday.

Isn't it funny how we will consider what we said we don't want if the price is right?

Hey, anyone know if Mazda is ever going to release their New World Order 2? The one that's going to be built in Mexico, right? The design was beautiful for this car...they always brought that red one onstage with them to show it off. Haven't seen it at tall. On the street, internet or in print.

Labor dispute in Mexico, perhaps? :)

The Mazda 2 is not coming as a Mazda. It is being released as the new scion 4 door. I something. Though I think with a Toyota engine.

Oh, OK. I was interested in it at one time. I now started following the car you're mentioning independently of a Mazda of any kind. It's sold in other countries as the Toyota Yaris.

    2016 Scion iM

In fact, the 2016 Scion iM could just be a bargain compared to many other low-priced hatchbacks, it comes standard with a Pioneer 7-inch touchscreen, seven-speaker audio, dual-zone automatic climate control system, a backup camera, 17-inch wheels, automatic on/off headlights, heated outside mirrors, LED daytime lamps and keyless entry.

Maintenance comes free for the first two years or 24,000 miles whichever comes first. It is pricing MSRP at $19,255, which includes the destination charge. That price is for the 2016 Scion iM with the 6-speed standard transmission.

All iMs come with a 1.8-liter, naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that develops 137 horsepower and 126 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm. There's some good driving reviews on the car. It's ride in the test-driven car was surprisingly good. I haven't test-drove one, but I have read a few reviews and also I've zeroed in on an iM in Scion's Spring Green color above for sale at a Wichita dealer. It comes with front MacPherson strut suspension and rear double wishbone configuration that soaks up so many bumps and vibrations that passengers thought the iM was more expensive than it is.

The car does lean in the corners, but the electric power steering felt fairy realistic to the reviewer of the article I am looking at now online.

Another cool thing I just discovered in the review is this: the iM's interior is quieter than expected, with road, wind and vehicle noise nicely subdued. The biggest noise intruder in the test-driven iM was the four-cylinder engine that droned and sounded strained when hard-pressed to accelerate. Man, am I ever used to this with the 3 Kia's I've owned. I'd be right at home, gentlemen! The fabric seats have good-looking upholstery with accent stitching. The steering wheel comes standard with leather trim. Neither is expected at this price.

Good reviews on the front bucket seats, which provided good, firm support on four-plus-hour drives. Passengers in the iM back seat sit theater style — higher than the front-seat riders — on a flat, cushioned bench. More good news -there's an unexpectedly generous amount of headroom back there — 37.5 inches so the high seat position doesn't make headroom feel cramped.

Eight cupholders are at the ready and there are many cubbies for storage.

The rear seatbacks split 60/40 and fold flat to maximize cargo space, which measures 20.8 cubic feet when the rear seats are in use.

OK, here's the thing on the body styling - on the outside, the iM has an upscale shape and it's styling is similar to that of the CT200h from Toyota's luxury Lexus line. Here ya go -the truth is, the iM is closest to the looks of the Toyota Auris — a hatchback sold in countries around the world but not the U.S. In the U.S. Toyota offers the small hatchback called the Yaris. This new 2016 Scion iM is a larger vehicle and design than the Toyota Yaris and it will offer much more comfortable driving accommodations for a foreign vehicle enthusiast like myself.

Not that I'm planning on buying one. Yeah, right. :D

For these reviewers the car averaged 30.2 mpg for a range of 422 miles.

The federal government rates the iM with CVT at 28 mpg in city driving and 37 mpg on the highway.

At today's prices for regular gasoline, it cost less than $33 to fill the 14-gallon tank.

One more thing: The iM has a new sedan sibling offering, the iA, which also is arriving in Scion dealerships for the 2016 model year. Supposedly the new Scion iA is a rebadged Mazda 2. More on that later, I suppose. I don't much like the iA's design but this iM I do like quite a bit. Not really unhappy with my 2011 Kia Soul 5-speed stick clear white base, either.

I'd say this - I like the 2016 Scion iM enough to want to pursue it further. At the right time...which is where things can get complicated with Mrs.iluvmysephia1 and me.

    Hey Q
I have just started looking and have not narrowed the field enough yet. I am thinking about a Mercury GM in the LS trim (leather). There are a few out there in the 40-50k mile range and a lot around 100K in years 2004-2007.
Most have asking prices of $5000 and up.
I would appreciate auction results on a few like listed above. A friend has a lot and probably could pick up one for me in Columbus, OH. Thanks

    Hey Q,

Dreaming a little...but it doesn't hurt to try, right? Found something nearby that caught my eye, so just wondering what I might get for either of these, both in SE NC.

2014 Q50 Hybrid AWD, 42K, grey/black, premium package. One wheel replaced, but no body damage.

2015.5 Volvo S60 Premier (I think that's the top line) plus climate package, T5, FWD, 7k, gray/beige, no damage or cosmetic issues. (Yeah I know I just got this one and am probably better off trying to sell it to @robr2) :)

    Thanks!

Very nice cars, I used to own a 2004. Not too many out there with really low mileage (40-50k) though.

I'd like to know what caught your eye!

I have zero comps on a Q50 with those miles. Gotta be $28k-$29k.(?)

There is actually a "Premier Plus" S60, as well. Figure maybe $22k on that.

Mercury GM - that is a wide range to work with. A 2007 LS with ~80k miles would auction for $4k-$5k, depending on condition.

drive it first. fairly underpowered for most people. Then drive a 2015. Huge improvement. Not only did they upgrade the engine (pretty quick now) they made a lot of other improvements. And you can get a killer deal on a leftover from what I have seen. or at least a demo/loaner CPO 15. Probably worth the extra money, unless you really like the 14.

oh, since IIRC you drive long trips, ILX has an undersized (13.2) gas tank. So plan to stop and fill up a lot more often!

I have already driven it and find the power to be fine. I'm coming from a 2000 Passat with the 1.8T that puts out similar power. As for the tank size, at 35 highway I will get better range than the Passat with is usually around 350.

I also like like that price point. I have college tuition bills to pay. I am going to an Acura dealer today and will see what they have for '15s. I'm also stopping at a VW store that is advertising $5000 off Passats. Couple that with $2000 loyalty and we are talking major discounts.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,350
from all the reports, sounds like you can get a brand new Passat for well less than that ILX. give up a few features, but could always upgrade the Passat to one with a roof if that matters.

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
The big discounts on the Passats seem to be only on the Limited Edition models. No roof on those. The dealer I stopped at had 3 - all silver/black. I did find another VW dealer selling the Limited Editions at $6,000 off - as long as you like silver.

Now for serendipity. On my way to the Acura store I drove past a Volvo store and out front they had a Mazda 6 just like the one that fell through. More miles but $3500 less. Now I getting confused.

If anyone can find me a red over tan Maserati Ghibli with less than 20K for $20K and a lifetime B2B warranty, let me know.

assuming it does, that is still under 20K OTD most likely (depending on state) for a brand new, nicely equipped passat. makes it much harder to justify used.

AFAIK, the discount does not include the loyalty as other prices on the various dealer sites show discounts of under $2K on other models. I'm going by another VW store tomorrow and see what the deal is.

Roughly $17k auction value on that ILX, and I would guess maybe they paid that for it and tacked on $3500 profit after their expenses. $19k sounds like a good deal, maybe $19.5k if you really love it.

Helluva lot smaller than the mazda6, no?

Roughly $17k auction value on that ILX, and I would guess maybe they paid that for it and tacked on $3500 profit after their expenses. $19k sounds like a good deal, maybe $19.5k if you really love it.

Helluva lot smaller than the mazda6, no?

Although I like the 6, I am concerned about the reliability of the SkyActive system and for everything the Mazda has, it's missing some little things. For instance, only the driver window switch is lit and the driver window has auto up/down. Those are little things but I use them all the time. Also, the 19's on the Mazda will be expensive to replace every 30K miles. The Acura doesn't have memory seats but has all the other features I want. It is smaller but not much more than my Passat. The Mazda is huge in comparison.

I'm starting to feel analysis paralysis.

Can we interest you in a GTI?
Nope. I can't fit all my samples and literature in one. Now if there were such a thing as a Golf GTI Sportswagen.....
But that stuff will fit in an ILX

I carry 4-5 plastic crates with everything I need and four of them fit in the ILX. I can consolidate to 4 crates. I'd have to stack them in the Golf in order to fit behind the seats.

Any thoughts on a 2015 WRX STI. A new one similarly equipped would likely run a few grand more, but wouldn't have the CPO warranty or a year of free maintenance. I'm thinking $33,500 is all the money.

Color and miles are great. It seems to be missing the rear hatch, so that's no good, but otherwise looks fun enough!

Given the miles/history, I think that $33.5 may be a great price non-CPO, and that is a $1,500 warranty (off-the-shelf, "invoice"pricing), so I'm not sure that they will move much off that $35K. It can't hurt to try it, though. I may also be "off" due to my AK perspective. :D

Yeah, I wish it was a hatch as well. At least it has the H-K audio system as well as navigation. Going to check it out tomorrow night. My wonderful bride said to go for it if the numbers are good. B)
By the way, did I ever mention that I spent a couple of nights in Fairbanks back in February 2000?

It looks well-optioned for the model, for sure!

No, I don't think you did mention that. Man, 2/00, that was a long time ago.... I was a student at the U at that time, and 1-year engaged to my now-wife of fifteen (plus) years. :)

First, qbrozen - thanks for all your help. I've been a bit scattered on different vehicles but did buy one today.

And the winner is.......a 2015 VW Passat LE!!!

$6K discount ($4K dealer and $2K Loyalty) and $1400 for my 2005 Passat Wagon with 132K, a check engine light, rust on the tailgate, 3/32" on the tires, and 3 mm on the brake pads. $25,085 MSRP for $19,058.

Remember how I said I want a light interior and anything but silver but would consider it based on the price. Well the price won and I'm getting silver/black. When it came right down to it, I couldn't pass up such a great price on a new car.
