Toyota lowered prices and probably hopes the 2008 model won't need as many incentives later on in the model year.
Look at the bottom line price. After the rebates they're probably close, the 08 a little more, but you get better resale down the road to offset this. You give up the content you mentioned plus DRLs.
I felt good when I got that huge rebate.. but now
I got an LE 8 seater, pkg 3 in May for $25,247.
Fitzmall has the similar LE8-EVP 2 for $25.5k. But they still give up DRLs and the trailer tow prep package. Add those and we're talking roughly $26k.
The way I see it I'm still about $750 ahead.
Edit: I even got carpeted mats and a first aid kit for that price. So I did get more content for a lower price than they're offering now.
A $750 rebate would even prices out, though.
Toyota did dis-service to past Sienna buyers. I got the rebate... but think people who got without rebate... they paid $1.5K more for their 2007's than 2008.... our Sienna's got de-valued $1.5K+ overnight...ouch....
Toyota should do what Apple is doing for the past buyers.
Did anyone see this coming?
i will most likely get the 2008 xle with package 1 between OCT and DEC. most dealerships are only getting a few 2008 so the selection is very limited now.
I'm in Maryland. FitzMall will do it for $3 (yes three dollars) over invoice, plus a $99 doc fee (max. by law in MD). But they do not have this model in the pipeline.
CarMax in MD will sell it for approx. $300 over invoice, plus a $99 doc fee. They have a couple coming in this month. They faxed over the inventory / vechicle details. I put a deposit on one.
Both post Internet pricing on line.
Very good as compared to 2007 - one year less depreciation and more standard features, most safety related.
I'm surprised the 2007 rebate went up to $2000 in some regions, as they have very few of those left, I'm sure they would have been able to sell them easily.
Value-pricing the 2008 models does seem like a better strategy in terms of resale, but I'm happy I got the tow prep package (now an option) and a $1250 rebate.

What does everyone think of the price paid?
Also, if you could drop me the name of the dealership that would be of great help.
and click on "Low Rate vs. Rebate Calculator" and figure it out for yourself that you should take the rebate ;-) .

Got 5.24% on 72 month loan from Alliant Credit Union so monthly payment came out to about $673.
I got to thinking about the warranty when I started to list out all the fairly expensive mechanics on the vehicle (power sliding doors and liftgate, Bluetooth, Nav, DVD screen, Laser Cruise Control). These are all the kind of systems where neither the parts nor the labor is cheap. I don't plan on keeping it for seven years, but it will help me move this loaded van at a premium in the used market when the time comes if I can offer a transferrable warranty.
I hope my posting has helped others get good deals as I feel that I got a really great deal given that the 2008's just arrived.

In some instances, this is indeed the case.
The price we have recently received is
30,749.60 Invoice (including $735 delivery and $750 Southest admin fee)
+300 Taxes
+399 Doc fees
+25 license
+2.5% of invoice (basically their profit) = 768.74
+350 dealer installed backup sensor (couldn't find one that was factory installed)
Total = $32,592.34
They don't seem willing to budge on the 2.5% over invoice level, and I can't tell if it is reasonable for a 2008.
Try asking for invoice + 300 anyway.
First of all, the transaction was fast and smooth. I paid the Internet price and they only asked me once to buy an extended warranty, which I did not. I was in the store and out with my new van in 30 minutes.
Detailed pricing info is below;
From Sticker
$26,015 MSRP
N/C 50 State Emissions (FE)
410 Alloy Wheels (AL)
1,510 EVP Package #2 (QF)
70 Daytime running lights/Wiper deicer (RL)
N/C Preferred owner's portfolio (DK)
214 Carpet floor mats/Door sill protector (CF)
$28,904 Total Before Discount
-1,085 Extra Value Package MSRP Discount
$27,819 Total
Factory invoice price is $25,488
Price paid $25,738 (exactly $250 over invoice)
Plus $99 doc. fee, tax, tags (total OTD was $27,355)
Two notes;
1) FitzMall only charges 3 dollars over invoice ($247 less), but they did not have the inventory at this time.
2) I suppose if 2008's start selling well, Toyota could remove the Extra Value Package MSRP Discount. I'm not sure there is precedence for this, but it is possible. It is like an up front rebate that can be removed by deleting a couple of lines on the window sticker.
My 2007 is very similar, package 3 8 seater, and it was $25,247 back in May. I think the only thing mine has that yours doesn't is the tow prep package.
You'll make up the difference in resale because it's a year newer, basically. Congrats.
Thank you all for any help...
Do you have dealer info who gives you 300 over invoice? thanks.
Thanks
We liked Sienna a little more after test driving it. Almost made the deal with the Toyota dealer but at that time, the pricing manager didn't want to give us better value for the trade-in. We walked away and into the Honda right next door, found out that Odessey has $2k dealer incentive and figured we should go for Honda for the big price gap. Didn't make the deal on that day as we didn't have financing available at that time and the sales guy was very pushy.
We waited a week till we got our own financing check and walked into that Honda dealer again. Well, the sales guy was stupid enough to act REAALY REALLY nasty: so arrongant and so rude. He probably thought we couldn't find better deals anywhere else and now came into to beg him for the car? Not only he intentionally let us wait for more than 1 hour(first 30 mins with other customers but later on he actually had nothing to do), he didn't greet us, didn't apologize for the long wait and talked with a sarcastic tone: huh, you are coming back? Now you are not getting the same deal you could have got a week ago. He gave us new appraised value for our old at $1600 less. Anyway, having enough of his stupidity, we complained to the manager(not on pricing, only on his unprofessional attitude and poor customer service) and left that dealership immediately.
Considering that we really liked the Sienna better and XLE has some nice features Odessey doens't have, and that the Toyota sales lady (oh, she's a sweet young lady) called us many times trying hard to earn our business, we went back to Toyota. We ended up getting this deal done today: $400 below invoice for the Sienna XLE, $800 more for the trade-in value than what was originally offered to us the first time. We signed everything and left the Toyota dealership in our new Sienna at 6PM.
The nice Toyota sales lady worked hard to earn our business and she deserves every bit of it. While we were there waiting for her, she closed another transaction. We also had to wait for >30 mins, but she came upon us after that, similing, apologized about the long wait and thanked us for coming in again. While waiting for the paper work from the Finance dept, she explained in full detail about almost every button on the Sienna. It was over 5PM and I'm sure she's very tired too. But she kept high spirit and remained very focused. At the end, we were happy and really appreciated her hard work and patience.
I feel pity for Honda: they make a very nice van, yet, with even $2000 market support money, they lose our business because of some unprofessional sales guy. I think I'm gonna share that with Honda, and, I was really happy riding Sienna back home!
BTW, we live in MidWest. Sounds like we got a pretty good deal on the Sienna?

I talked to a dealer willing to order one for me, but then I dont like the idea of buying a vehicle without test driving it first. Any comments?
600$ to etch your vin into the windows, give me a break. Somehow our salesman was able to find one with none of that crap and we bought it from him.
Thanks!
I thought my deal in NJ was good LXE LIMITED AWD EVP1!,Towing and mats..for $36900(window $39504)
Think of the tow package as the "heavy duty package" instead, and you're on the right track.
Consider this - it doesn't even include the hitch!
For 2007, it was actually standard, so yes, this was a bit of cost cutting.
