You're not missing anything, minus the rebate.

Toyota lowered prices and probably hopes the 2008 model won't need as many incentives later on in the model year.

Look at the bottom line price. After the rebates they're probably close, the 08 a little more, but you get better resale down the road to offset this. You give up the content you mentioned plus DRLs.
  • caravan2caravan2 Member Posts: 198
This is bad for current Sienna owners. I think, you can get 2008 below 2007 prices even factoring in rebate. You might have to wait for a month or for the 2008 inventory to accumulate.

I felt good when I got that huge rebate.. but now
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Not quite, at least not in the street prices I'm seeing.

I got an LE 8 seater, pkg 3 in May for $25,247.

Fitzmall has the similar LE8-EVP 2 for $25.5k. But they still give up DRLs and the trailer tow prep package. Add those and we're talking roughly $26k.

The way I see it I'm still about $750 ahead.

Edit: I even got carpeted mats and a first aid kit for that price. So I did get more content for a lower price than they're offering now.

A $750 rebate would even prices out, though.
  • caravan2caravan2 Member Posts: 198
You're correct. And that's my point too.... even with $750 more for 2008, buying 2008 is better than 2007.

Toyota did dis-service to past Sienna buyers. I got the rebate... but think people who got without rebate... they paid $1.5K more for their 2007's than 2008.... our Sienna's got de-valued $1.5K+ overnight...ouch....

Toyota should do what Apple is doing for the past buyers.

    Did anyone see this coming?

i think toyota is expecting a recession coming to the car dealers near you..
  • stalwartstalwart Member Posts: 4
let me know if that is a fair deal. I am in SF bay area, so the taxes+fees are roughly 10% here.
  • ccc88ccc88 Member Posts: 39
if this price is after rebate, looks like you approximately got a few hundred below the invoice, not bad! may I know your dealership/sales info? chengchu88 @ gmail . com, I am in the bay area too. thanks!

i will most likely get the 2008 xle with package 1 between OCT and DEC. most dealerships are only getting a few 2008 so the selection is very limited now.
  • seats8seats8 Member Posts: 12
I am going to buy a 2008 LE 8 passenger with Value Package #2, alloy wheels, floor mats/sill protectors, and DRL's.

I'm in Maryland. FitzMall will do it for $3 (yes three dollars) over invoice, plus a $99 doc fee (max. by law in MD). But they do not have this model in the pipeline.

CarMax in MD will sell it for approx. $300 over invoice, plus a $99 doc fee. They have a couple coming in this month. They faxed over the inventory / vechicle details. I put a deposit on one.

Both post Internet pricing on line.

Very good as compared to 2007 - one year less depreciation and more standard features, most safety related.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Rebates do that, but they have to try to balance supply and demand.

I'm surprised the 2007 rebate went up to $2000 in some regions, as they have very few of those left, I'm sure they would have been able to sell them easily.

Value-pricing the 2008 models does seem like a better strategy in terms of resale, but I'm happy I got the tow prep package (now an option) and a $1250 rebate.

I just finalized a deal for 08 XLE Limited with
    Dynamic Laser
    power folding seats
    tow prep
    Limited EVP # 2
    Day time running lights

    MSRP 40802
    paying 36786

What does everyone think of the price paid?
  • neithalneithal Member Posts: 1
money factor is very high, you should look for .0007917(1.9%) and residual value atleast 55%; I am getting $320/month 2008 AWD LE with HS option 15K miles/year for 36months with 0 down payment. If you are not bold enough to ask low numbers these guys will rip off all our money.
  • thesimpleguythesimpleguy Member Posts: 1
I'm currently in the market for the exact same vehicle you just purchased. Could you tell me whether the $38,588 was an out-of-door price or was it invoice before tax, title and fees. Any information you can provide me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Also, if you could drop me the name of the dealership that would be of great help.

I am getting a 2007 Sienna LE with Package 3 (Dual auto doors, better stereo, power driver seat, alloy wheels, ETC...) Before the Cash back I am paying $26,800 (no tax in Oregon) after cash back it should be $24,800. I think I got a pretty good deal, but would like some feedback. Also is it better to get the low financing or cash back when I am putting down $10,000 on the car. Let me know.

We bought an Le FWD pkg. 3 on the 1st of Sept. and paid 25,000 after rebate +TTL in Nashville Tn. We live in Memphis and this was the closest dealer to take my offer of 25,000. We didn't have the luxury to bargain too low a price because there just aren't many around here, none in Memphis like we wanted(2 CE and 1 Le Pkg. 2)and were pressed to get the 2,000 rebate before it expired. On the Siennaclub.org forum, I read where a lady bought one around April or May for 24,500 some odd dollars and I just told them I knew they could make money on 25,000 and they took it. The dealer there claims they are the the biggest in 37 states and that they like volume. They had to get it from another dealer and one dealer here in Memphis could do it too but they wouldn't come off 26,700. I believe you're getting a good deal you better hurry while you can.

Thank you for the reassurance, I am going to jump on it, it is the only on in the three state area which met our specifications

Hi. I just read your post and am right now negotiating for the same van you purchased. $24,426 OTD is what you paid including tax and license? If so, do you mind me asking what dealer you bought it from and if you were happy with the experience and the salesperson? I also live in the SF bay area. Thanks
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Sounds good to me. Your price is about $450 lower than the lowest price I found back in May.

I picked up my new minivan on 9/5/2007 from Copeland Toyota in Brockton, MA. I dealt with a sales manager via emails at first and then was passed off to a salesman to close the deal. Here is the final breakdown on what I paid:

2008 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited AWD

HZ – Laser Cruise Control / HID Headlamps
    QL – Limited EVP #2 Package (NAV / DVD / JBL / Backup Camera / 115V Outlets / Bluetooth)
    RL – Daytime Running Lights
    TO – Tow Prep Package
    CF – Carpet Floor mats

    MSRP: $41,919
    Sale Price: $36,532

    Other Dealer Installed Options w/costs
    XM Radio - $430
    Mudflaps - $177
    Cargo net - $35
    Remote Starter - $439

    Price w/ extras: $37,613

    MA 5% Tax: $1,880.65

Registration and Title Fee: $136 (includes extra $50 for Red Sox plate)

    Doc Fee: $250

7yr/100K Mile Warranty from Toyota: $1,595

    Final price: $41,474.65

Got 5.24% on 72 month loan from Alliant Credit Union so monthly payment came out to about $673.

I got to thinking about the warranty when I started to list out all the fairly expensive mechanics on the vehicle (power sliding doors and liftgate, Bluetooth, Nav, DVD screen, Laser Cruise Control). These are all the kind of systems where neither the parts nor the labor is cheap. I don't plan on keeping it for seven years, but it will help me move this loaded van at a premium in the used market when the time comes if I can offer a transferrable warranty.

I hope my posting has helped others get good deals as I feel that I got a really great deal given that the 2008's just arrived.
  • seats8seats8 Member Posts: 12
In response to your question "Did anyone see this coming?", in early August, I did suggest the possibility that similarly equipped 2007's and 2008's would be about the same price, even with the 2007 rebates.

Link to post from August 4th 2007

In some instances, this is indeed the case.

Can the very supportive readers on this site comment on a price I am negotiating for a 2008 XLE with EVP Package #3 (including EVP #1 leather seats/sunshades, EVP #2 moonroof, and #3 with DVD entertainment system and two 115v outlets). It also includes foglamps and floor mats and alloy wheels and special color.

The price we have recently received is
30,749.60 Invoice (including $735 delivery and $750 Southest admin fee)
    +300 Taxes
    +399 Doc fees
    +25 license
+2.5% of invoice (basically their profit) = 768.74
+350 dealer installed backup sensor (couldn't find one that was factory installed)

    Total = $32,592.34

They don't seem willing to budge on the 2.5% over invoice level, and I can't tell if it is reasonable for a 2008.
  • 7seatershopper7seatershopper Member Posts: 20
I was getting lost of LE's for $300 above invoice when I was shopping (north California) last month and expect the same may have held for XLE's. However, that may have been before there were enough 2008 models to take up dealership floor space - so they may give you better rates.

Try asking for invoice + 300 anyway.
  • partzguypartzguy Member Posts: 3
There are several things I'd try to negotiate: First, the $399 "Doc fee". It's a junk fee, pure profit for the dealer. Their cost to handle the paper work of the sale is negligible. Second, the dealer receives money back from the manufacturer known as a "holdback" after the sale of the vehicle. Should be at least $500 on the Sienna. Adding up the doc fee, 2.5% over invoice, and the holdback they are making at least $1700 on the vehicle. I just bought a 2007 Sienna LE 8 passenger for dealer invoice minus $150 and the dealer still made about $400 on the sale.

On this thread I've seen references to Internet one-price dealers such as Fitzmall.com and Brownscar.com. Does anyone know of a similar type of Toyota dealer in Florida or anywhere else in the Southeast?
  • seats8seats8 Member Posts: 12
I picked up a beautiful Slate Metallic Gray 2008 Sienna LE 8-passenger (Toyota model # 5338A) last night at CarMax in Laurel, MD.

First of all, the transaction was fast and smooth. I paid the Internet price and they only asked me once to buy an extended warranty, which I did not. I was in the store and out with my new van in 30 minutes.

    Detailed pricing info is below;

    From Sticker
    $26,015 MSRP
    N/C 50 State Emissions (FE)
    410 Alloy Wheels (AL)
    1,510 EVP Package #2 (QF)
70 Daytime running lights/Wiper deicer (RL)
    N/C Preferred owner's portfolio (DK)
214 Carpet floor mats/Door sill protector (CF)
    $28,904 Total Before Discount
-1,085 Extra Value Package MSRP Discount
    $27,819 Total

    Factory invoice price is $25,488

Price paid $25,738 (exactly $250 over invoice)

Plus $99 doc. fee, tax, tags (total OTD was $27,355)

    Two notes;
    1) FitzMall only charges 3 dollars over invoice ($247 less), but they did not have the inventory at this time.

    2) I suppose if 2008's start selling well, Toyota could remove the Extra Value Package MSRP Discount. I'm not sure there is precedence for this, but it is possible. It is like an up front rebate that can be removed by deleting a couple of lines on the window sticker.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Sounds good.

My 2007 is very similar, package 3 8 seater, and it was $25,247 back in May. I think the only thing mine has that yours doesn't is the tow prep package.

You'll make up the difference in resale because it's a year newer, basically. Congrats.

I purchased a 2008 Sienna limited and the van was supposed to have HID and Dynamic Laser. Well I just realized that it doesn't and I've had the car for two days. Am I SOL or do I have any options?

    Thanks

I have a dealer willing to sell me '08 XLE with option 4 (NAV+DVD) at invoice. Is that the best I can do?

  • yongqiyongqi Member Posts: 1
We bought a 08 Sienna XLE with EVP#(leather and moonroof), Tow prep at $400 below invoice (27.9K) +TTL. We also have a trade in but the trade-in value we received from this Toyota dealer is the highest among 5-6 dealers we visited. It beats the next highest by $1100. I'm sure they still make money on both the new van and the trade-in but seems like a good deal for us.

We liked Sienna a little more after test driving it. Almost made the deal with the Toyota dealer but at that time, the pricing manager didn't want to give us better value for the trade-in. We walked away and into the Honda right next door, found out that Odessey has $2k dealer incentive and figured we should go for Honda for the big price gap. Didn't make the deal on that day as we didn't have financing available at that time and the sales guy was very pushy.

We waited a week till we got our own financing check and walked into that Honda dealer again. Well, the sales guy was stupid enough to act REAALY REALLY nasty: so arrongant and so rude. He probably thought we couldn't find better deals anywhere else and now came into to beg him for the car? Not only he intentionally let us wait for more than 1 hour(first 30 mins with other customers but later on he actually had nothing to do), he didn't greet us, didn't apologize for the long wait and talked with a sarcastic tone: huh, you are coming back? Now you are not getting the same deal you could have got a week ago. He gave us new appraised value for our old at $1600 less. Anyway, having enough of his stupidity, we complained to the manager(not on pricing, only on his unprofessional attitude and poor customer service) and left that dealership immediately.

Considering that we really liked the Sienna better and XLE has some nice features Odessey doens't have, and that the Toyota sales lady (oh, she's a sweet young lady) called us many times trying hard to earn our business, we went back to Toyota. We ended up getting this deal done today: $400 below invoice for the Sienna XLE, $800 more for the trade-in value than what was originally offered to us the first time. We signed everything and left the Toyota dealership in our new Sienna at 6PM.

The nice Toyota sales lady worked hard to earn our business and she deserves every bit of it. While we were there waiting for her, she closed another transaction. We also had to wait for >30 mins, but she came upon us after that, similing, apologized about the long wait and thanked us for coming in again. While waiting for the paper work from the Finance dept, she explained in full detail about almost every button on the Sienna. It was over 5PM and I'm sure she's very tired too. But she kept high spirit and remained very focused. At the end, we were happy and really appreciated her hard work and patience.

I feel pity for Honda: they make a very nice van, yet, with even $2000 market support money, they lose our business because of some unprofessional sales guy. I think I'm gonna share that with Honda, and, I was really happy riding Sienna back home!

BTW, we live in MidWest. Sounds like we got a pretty good deal on the Sienna?

    Anywhere near Chicagoland area?

    >
  • msindallasmsindallas Member Posts: 190
Did any of you order a Sienna? If so, please share the experience. In these parts, all the Limited Sienna's come with this towing package ($220) and spoiler ($485) that I dont need/want, and those lusterizing sealant/sealant protector/roadside assistance ($345) nonsense. Like they are trying to sell service instead of a minivan.

I talked to a dealer willing to order one for me, but then I dont like the idea of buying a vehicle without test driving it first. Any comments?
  • caravan2caravan2 Member Posts: 198
I personally would prefer towing package even if I don't want to tow... because it will have transmission cooler and heavy duty alternator and may be some other small things... transmission cooler is great feature to have in the long run for transmission..... they should make this standard... but then they're cutting costs.
  • svofan2svofan2 Member Posts: 442
I read you, I feel the same . The Sienna that I am after ia LXE LIMITED AWD with option 1,towing and that is it. My dealer here in Northern Nj is pretty fair and they do not add any "dealer installed" stuff to increase their profits...my advise go to another dealer..many a few more until you find what you want. Ordering from that dealer will never be to your satisfaction since as far as they can sell a loaded up Sienna (with their stuff) you will never get one...tme is on their side and they are counting on you giving in..good luck..
  • sunnyvalisunnyvali Member Posts: 33
Here in the Chicagoland area, they don't sell XLE AWD. If one wants the AWD, they have to move upto Limited. What price are you getting for the XLE from the dealer - @invoice or higher?
  • svofan2svofan2 Member Posts: 442
Here in NJ I see AWD XLE around the dealers...what I am looking at is an XLE LIMITED AWD,towing and optiom 1 (dvd players) sticker is $39504 and going into the lease the price quoted wa $36901..I think it is about $1500 over invoice not sure. I think I can do better so do you remember the Siennas just hit the show room and there are not many yet..
  • lukechardlukechard Member Posts: 2
I got my 2008 in NY 2 weeks ago XLE AWD LIMITED with EVP#2 and Day time Running Lights, Tow Prep and Carpet floor mats/ door still Protector at $368000.
  • rlmiller9rlmiller9 Member Posts: 48
I tried to do this about 5 years ago and it was not easy. Not at all, I live in Florida and we have to go through the Southeast distribution center and they are bandits to say the least. To try to find a car with less than 1000$ of useless add-ons from them was near impossible. It is almost like dealing with the mafia.
600$ to etch your vin into the windows, give me a break. Somehow our salesman was able to find one with none of that crap and we bought it from him.
  • sunnyvalisunnyvali Member Posts: 33
I am sure you meant $36,800.00 and TTL+doc fees would be extra, right?

    Thanks!
  • lukechardlukechard Member Posts: 2
Sorry! You are correct. $36,800.00 and TTL+doc fees
  • svofan2svofan2 Member Posts: 442
Where in LI and who was that saint of a salesman...lol...
I thought my deal in NJ was good LXE LIMITED AWD EVP1!,Towing and mats..for $36900(window $39504)
  • svofan2svofan2 Member Posts: 442
..how much is invoice on this Siennas?.....is there a $4000 or more difference between invoice and sticker?....how come that Odysseys are selling better than the Siennas?...sticker on the Odysseys are less than the Siennas...but at these prices that I hear i would rather be in a Sienna..
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    I agree.

Think of the tow package as the "heavy duty package" instead, and you're on the right track.

Consider this - it doesn't even include the hitch!

For 2007, it was actually standard, so yes, this was a bit of cost cutting.
