Depends a lot on if you smoke and if you drive down dirt roads very often, along with just how dusty your environment is in general.

No smoking, but plenty of dust and sand from a my forays off the beaten path. Still, almost nothing on my cabin filter. Windows are usually close, and I vaccuum often.

If you keep it on recirc, I don't think the cabin filter will get filled with dust. My Trooper is kept in recirc mode almost all the time unless I want some fresh air, but then I usually open up the roof and sides.

If you keep your ventilation on recirculation in fall and winter, the inside will fog up and freeze, recirc. is only until you get the cabin temperature then you switch to fresh air.

    Cheers Pat.

never have had a problem, although I don't regularly drive the trooper during the week, usually on the weekends, and by then there is no fog on the windows.

Pat- "If you keep your ventilation on recirculation in fall and winter, the inside will fog up and freeze" Not if he leaves the AC on. Actually, it's recommended to use the AC in conjunction with the heater to defog/defrost the windows since it further dehumidifies the warm air.

Trooper has auto-temp controls, set the temp and it does it's thing. I believe it uses the AC for some of that.

  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
There you go, thats why you do not have any problems, but most vehicles only have manual temp control.

    Point well taken Frank.

Thanks for posting the pic Juice.

"Disgusted" was my first emotion when I pulled these out. As suggested by locke2c, I was exposed to rather dirty dusty conditions. I built a new home in the latter half of 2000 in a new subdivision with no grass but lots of dirt blowing around. No smoking though. Sand and salt combo used in winter is probably a large contributor. On a cold and sunny day with lots of traffic on a 50mph road, you can cut the dust clouds with a knife. Scary thing is, I've heard that the salt used on roads contains nasty stuff (Arsenic for one). The road salt was primary reason for install......I want to minimize my son's exposure to that stuff. I would recommend everyone install cabin filters. Cost is minimal at C$70 every year or so. Oh, that's about US$0.50 ; )

Brian- I don't recall of any team in the Soccer League in Pink. Closest would be Liverpool (Red) or you could get England (White), then dye it Pink (offense not intended to our folks across the Atlantic). :-)

You know something? I think the wife would love that two-tone leather and the wood/leather steering wheel. I'm not sure that I've actually ever even sat inside one, though I've seen a few VDCs. They are quite different, though.

You have to go drive one -- it really feels different than the H4 Outback (your father's for example). I don't know if it's just the H6 or other refinements/tweaks Subaru added, but it drives much better. Really feels upscale and refined. I was very surprised myself.

I bet your wife would like it -- my wife does, and she's still mad at me for buying a new car (no I didn't get a picture of her yelling this time). If the Bean can win my wife over, maybe you have a chance with your wife. It's definitely worth a look.

Pricewise, I think the car is an exceptional value.

We haven't been lucky enough to see one in a show room yet. I have to drag her kicking and screaming. Or maybe I'll test drive one all the way home so she can see it.

I had my album on Excite.com but they went the way of the Edsel(trying to stay w/the car theme here, LOL). I had to recreate the album on Yahoo. Here's the link below for anyone who might be interested. Yes, they are the same photos that most have seen. Just a reference link then, :-)

That shifter looks nice. Is it a Suby leather shift knob + boot?
  • oclvframeoclvframe Member Posts: 121
I think the interiors of the H-6s are nicely styled for the most part, but there are a couple of things that bother me...one is the fake wood....Subaru should either use very limited amounts of real wood for a tasteful accent, or not bother. In my opinion there is too much "plood" as Juice calls it. The other styling accent that bothered me was the brushed aluminum plate under the shift selector. There is nothing else in the interior of the vehicle in that finish. So, I first made a leather shift boot. It was easy to install, I just popped the fake wook trim around the shift selector and sandwiched the leather between it and the plate. The shape and height of the leather shift knob bothered me too, so, I figured 'what the heck' and installed the leather shift knob I used to have on my Accord (rip). I know, it has a 5 speed shift pattern on it...BUT it stands 1" shorter and has a much better feel than the tall skinny stock lever. The over-all look I was going for was that of the new Mercedes' gear selector.

I still want to tweak the boot a little bit, and, I want to make a boot to go over the slot where the brake lever sits in.

I sure wish I could get the correct cap in once and for all so that I can have a finished looking console!

Can some of you guys write out here in lay-mans terms how I can post a picture here.

What I need is for somebody to write out what I have to do from start to finish, I am not very computer literate and the address and instructions at the beginning of the photo gallery may as well be in Japanese for all the sense I can make of them.

    thanks in advance, Cheers Pat.

First off, you need somewhere to host the picture. I use ImageStation.com, but there's others like PhotoPoint, Ofoto, etc.

Once you get the picture to the site, you should be able to link to it. Here's our OB:

To get that picture to display, I pasted the link for the picture:

    OUCH!

Can that be buffed out and painted on the bumper? No other damage? Rufus is tough, go get him a trailer hitch or something nice. ;)

Ihave similar "scuff" marks on my trooper bumper. Not a big deal really, and it'll only wind up getting scratched again if he paints it. :)

What mike said. Rufus carries it as a "mark of honour. He's a real working wagon, not a prissy little boulevard cruiser. :~) The tail pipe carries similar damage:

    Robert,
Do you have a list of part numbers and prices and what it took to change out the center console on your 01 Bean? I would much appreciate it!

    Thanks,
