That's very generous of you...keep in mind, kiddo, that I have friends and family in Pittsburgh...I've been there before, and it's not out of the question that I'd be back.
Just leave the car in the driveway, keys under the flower pot:)
Now I've got a great idea! You CAN make it to MAPP3! Just drive to Pittsburgh to visit your relatives, and then jump in the Protege5 with Jason (Krotine)! He came to MAPP2, so he'd better come to MAPP3!
The picnic is a lot of fun, I'm definately interested in doing that again. We could also maybe find a "drive" to do with all of our cars. Actually, we really could do a drive independently of the picnic. It would be sort of fun, I think. Anybody else think so? There's enough people in the MD, VA, PA area, we could at least get a small group together.
I'm trying to get the same location as MAPP1. It's only a couple of miles from the entrance to Virginia's Skyline Drive ... now THERE'S a drive for us.
Can we post 100 messages today at the Mazda Protege Sedan Board and break the 10,000 mark? Folks, I know we can! Every regular needs to post today! Come on Mazda Protege Owners help us out. We need to stay kinda on topic, however. Please come over and help us break 10,000 posts on Friday 3/22/01!!!!
I seem to remember someone asking me about 2000 posts ago today how much gas was in Durham, NC. It has steadily increased over the last week. I spent $1.29 per gallon at lunch to fill up. Last weekend I took a trip to Columbia, SC (to visit family, why else would anyone go there?). I filled up before I left and paid $1.09/Gallon. When I was there I filled up for $.99/Gallon, and when I got back it was already up to $1.21/Gallon. $.12 in two days! When prices start fluctuating like this, I am really glad I traded in the Jetta. If these prices get much higher, I will have to lose the lead foot as well. Perhaps I could trade it in on a nice aluminum model.
Beautiful day here today in Ft. Collins CO. Sunny and up near 60. I think I'll take the long way back to work from lunch today. Maybe up into the foothills on some twisty mountain roads! Zoom-zooming is so rough around here, with so many twisty, scenic roads from which to choose! ;-)
Onward to 10,000. What if Pat deletes some? Better keep 'em clean.
Someone asked about fuel efficiency with the 2.0. I have a 5-speed. On my first three tanks of gas, with about a 50/50 split hwy/city, I've gotten 34, 31, and 31 MPG.
Actually...geez...don't know if I should even mention this out loud...but IF...and I mean IF...things work out for me over the next couple of months, I would LOVE to try to make it to MAPP.
Don't imagine I would actually drive out there...probably fly instead (trust me guys, there's nothing that earth-shattering about my white 2000 ES...just look at Larry's cars and picture them in white).
But I would really love to meet all you goofs in person!
Please DO NOT start pressuring me and making plans for me, though...the situation is really beyond my control. I promise to keep you posted:)
Personally I never even look. The only thing I could ever do was cut down on my driving and I've only got 3600 miles on my car which I bought in the middle of November.
BMW 850: Great cars until you have to do that 90k overhaul on that engine to the tune of like $10,000. The 840 was a much more driveable car. Personally I loved the way they look.
I go to lunch and come back and there are tons of posts.
Shrique---What it really cool about the 850 is the power windows. The car is so tight that everytime you open the door, the window rolls down a little bit. It has something to do with the window seals.
I don't like other people driving my car even when I'm in it. I actually don't like other people driving as I prefrer to be doing this. This is the reason I bought the P5 as it is a fun car to drive. I've let friends drive mine (only one time per friend) because some of them have old cars and couldn't stop talking about how great the Mazda looks. I love driving new cars also so I can understand why they would want to drive mine and besides, its a great car to drive. Besides that my Parents use my car now and then and how can I say no to them. Alot of people can't believe that a P5 is cheaper than a fully loaded Dodge Neon. I don't understand why Mazda isn't selling more cars (it is on the rise though). I've never regreted getting the P5 and if I didn't get that one it would have been the sedan. Everyone makes fun of me because I have rules if you want to be in my car....no eating, no open drinks, no fighting, don't slam the doors or play with anything and the most important...don't bring any garbage into my car. Only a few more weeks and I can put the D-5000's back on the car. We had snow and ice yesterday and its freezing cold today, still! Bring on the spring time weather. About this MAPP thing...can anyone come to this. I'm taking my P5 and a friend down to NC to go hiking in the Linville Gorge on the weekend of May 17-21st which would be close to where you are holding the MAPP. I could win the person who drove the furthest contest.
hehehe...sorry Todd, I left the RX-7 off of my list, but I have driven each generation. The 3rd is way different than the first 2. What blast to drive.
As you may or may not know, Edmunds used to archive discussions after a certain number of posts and start a new one. We had Mazda Protege 1 through Mazda Protege 6 prior to this new arrangement.
I just went back and added up all the posts since Mazda Protege 1, whose first post was on January 4, 1998.
To make a long story short, whoever makes post 10,000 will really be making the 14,709th post on the Edmunds Town Hall Mazda Protege topic!
I've been toying with the idea of buying the mp3 suspension parts (lowering springs, shocks, struts, stiffer sway bars) from mazdastuff.com for my 02 Pro ES. At minimum, I'm going to install the strut tower brace, but I'm not sure about the rest. That will run a good chunk of change. Plus, this is my daily commuter, so I wouldn't want too much daily drivability. On the other hand, the MP3's suspension is the "cats meow" according to the various car geeks who have reviewed it in the magazines articles I've read.
What do you folks think?
Anybody in the Colorado front range area have an MP3 in which I can take a ride?
Bogg: Why are you glad you traded in the Jetta? Did you have the VR6? I hear they get bad economy. I get 23-25mpg with my 1.8T, and even 23 or so with regular grade gas (used it once, but changed back to premium).
SFrat: I would be glad to take you for a ride in my car, even around this area. I told you, I hang out with a friend who lives on Connecticut Ave. NW & Military Rd. in DC, so that's right near where you live. I can take you for a ride around Chevy Chase circle at 50mph. Just kidding.
Meade: I hope to be 10,000. Wouldn't that be funny?
Down here around DC where I work, premium goes for like $1.60 or so a gallon. That's why I gas up in Baltimore to the tune of $1.35-1.45 a gallon (even for premium). If these prices keep going up, I am going to have to start cheapening out and using regular again.
I forgot, I am going to Chicago for Memorial Day weekend. I am staying at a friend's house about 30 mins. outside of town. Maybe I will have to stop by and say hello or something. Can I drive your Pro if I come out??
at 50 is asking for it. But talk about a thrill. Of course, any ride around here would most likely be sitting still in traffic. Seriously, maybe we can meet at the Starbucks/Einstein bagel place on CT right off the beltway sometime.
So what are you doing for your birthday, besides hanging out here at Edmund's? Maybe you will be lucky and your wife will get your car washed for your birthday or something.
Than a day off and spent on the Town Hall? I certainly can't think of a more perfect day. (Well, unless I throw in some booze and a few good cigars ...)
All great cars, but the second generation, especially the convertible, was a porker. 3rd generation was very light, but tipped the scales on what people were willing to pay. Great car to drive, as practical as a Miata, but 2 turbos require some maintenance.
Protege content: to bad they aren't as reliable as a Protegé.
I guess you do let other people drive your Pro then, eh?
My mother used to drive my 1999 DX, but she passed before I bought the 2001 ES. She almost took the DX away from me a couple times though, because she liked the handling so much.
I only post at work and have no Internet access at home. Somebody check this board on Saturday and record how many posts we had today, OK? I'd really like to know how many we had before midnight -- but I won't return until Monday.
Yeah, like I said 150+posts ago, I drive it Tuesdays-Thursdays 100%, she has it Mondays and Fridays (daytime), then we share on the weekend. I drive her to work Tue-Thur, then get it in the evenings. I'm always careful not to hit potholes, but she's not as agile. She likes that it warms up really fast though, that the AC keeps it cool in the summer, that it has pwr doors and windows and 4 doors. I like it b/w it's well... BABY!

Oooh, that was a low blow!
And the clips in my dash were broken during assembly, I was told (dumb people trying to force stuff). Also, the fuse blowing killed my radio. :0
vocus - what I've read is that the RX-8 is supposed to *comfortably* seat 4, with no B pillars and freestyle doors.
SC - looks like I need a better handle

However the "something" might be an option? Please e-mail me. I'll give you our phone number and you might call Trudy and give her some suggestions.
Well, I think we are going out to Carlos and Charlies for a nice Mexican dinner. Does anyone know where 1.8 Turbo Jetta Sedan are manufactured?
