I got them anyway since the wiring an switch was put in place, so all I have to do is change the lamp units for Hella's or PIAA's. These trucks have tooooooo much computer assisted electronics to be messing around with trying to get the wiring in place for accessories, believe me, I have some experience in this area. Some may disagree but consider that the power for the headlights is constant and the ground is switched by the body control module....hmmmmmm

if you order a 2001 right now.....2002's can be ordered in about a month....and yours may be cancelled and you may have to re-order a 2002 anyway?.....or it may work out?...I'd wait for a 2002.

Danog...How bad do you want to get out of it?...see what they will do for you...if you could get out of it right now...and not pay any extra....why pay for extra miles from now to October?......course you would need it until new one comes....

I've never leased or heard of how they wprk early turn ins...do you just quit paying and you are out....via their approval to do so?....or is there a fee of some kind?..

    Good Luck

    Jim,

Might as well get the fog lights. Matthew is right, too many computer assisted options!!!!!! The rear locker is discussed pretty often, not as much as tires and octane, but IMO it is more than worth it. No traction with a dog leg when turning right on an incline or when your off the driveway on a hill! Besides, if you burn tires any, they will both wear out at the same rate. HEHEHEH

This is only one of three leases I have had. Hate leasing but I just can't afford $500+ monthly payments.
On my first lease I ended it early by selling it to the used car manager at the dealership. I actually had to make up a difference of $1000 or so because I couldn't get them to pay it off. That is one problem with leases, you are contracted to pay to the end so it makes options very limited!
But, as with anything the options are always there if you look. I could sell it for payoff, trade it in like a purchased vehicle, or wait it out. Way I thought is if I went 10K over on miles it would cost me $1500 - .15/mile. But if I trade now and the difference on the payoff and trade-in value is $1500 or less then it should be no different.

have you found the fog lights that work best yet? if or when you do, i'd like to know so i can change out the ones on my blue(err i mean wife's) truck. i agree, even though the fog lights are chincy on the rado's, it's best to have all the factory wiring there, and not fool around with tapping into something that may not agree with the onboard comp. i remember when i wanted a couple stereo shops to do some installation, they wanted me to sign a disclaimer in the event something became fouled up.

    anything over $500 is nuts for a car.....but I pay $598.77...dohhh!...(but I can afford it...so it makes the difference)...besides...my truck..nothing down...with extra miles I need (22K a year) would have been $550 to lease...as they had no deals....(used to have loaded LT Tahoe's for $379 lease deals).....that's the key to a lease I believe...get a "lease deal"

...don't believe in putting anything down...unless it came from the equity of the sale of the previous one

we could buy more within' our range?....nahhhhh..that wouldn't be any fun!..LOL

I couldn't see paying 2-3 more months payments to get out of the lease...and the truck is gone.....now of you were to basically pay the miles overage as it sits now....that sounds cool?.....and you wouldn't have to pay for the miles from now to Oct....and the payment on a truck you don't want?

That is a house payment here! Really, we stretch ourselves - 1 '99 LT Rado at $387.55, 1 '01 Pathy at $415.37 and the house $800. Oh and I didn't mention the 18mth old and the home theater, yada yada yada......
We can afford it, but it is more fun pushing the limits!!!
If you look around even a little, it would be practically impossible to buy and have a sub lease $400 payment so why not get what you want.
I'll go by and check with a few dealerships this week to see what happens. As much as I hate to say it, I believe buying the next one will be my choice.
    Thanks,

    I believe it was like this;
    27400 price
    1st pymt 387.55
    cap reduction(down payment +taxes) 612.45.
    Sticker was just over 29,000.
Supposedly a friends dad got me a deal when these just rolled onto lots. This was the first batch of the new style delivered here in Birmingham.
    Sound good??

here I can drive 20 mintues in any direction and go from $80K to a few Million.....and if we wanna go deep Into Detroit.....another 40 minutes..we can get ya one for $5000!

...But a house isn't how we should judge people...

..although they do make an impression!

Off topic a bit but I'll try to include the Chevy.
We're out of town about 25 miles in a 24 year old house. I guess its as close to country as you could get without truly living on a farm.
1 acre of land, 18'x36' in ground pool. And yes a two car garage with the second half finished as a great big play/computer/junk room.
Had to buy the Silverado to haul many things. Man, if I had a farm I'd need you guys to help haul off trash and things.
I have heard how much it cost in other parts of the country for housing. May explain why so many people retire and move to the south. And property tax is only $300/year. Tags, $150/year.
BUT IF YOU HAVE KIDS, make sure you choose a really good location cause schools here are in a bad way!!!!!

....take a little 50's bungalo here for 100K..take it to Hawaii....it's $400K now!

starter houses back when I was out of high school...(85)...about $35K.....(Now $100K)..but there still are ones for $50....also ones for Millions....

Very diverse in some areas......here it can be packed in like sardines....for $100K or $800K.....or have acres of land...pole barn....nice ranch for $150K -$800K....all within' 10-60 minutes of each other..

    all relative

around me all the farms are being bought up and becoming $500K to 1.2 Mil. subs...packed in...why people pay that to look into your neighbors windows is beyond me...

    oh well

    How about them Silverados?

got a 30x40 2.5 story barn/garage that can back up that theory.....got more in 6 years of marriage than most people married for 50 years!

..but uhhh....errr...."it's ALL good stuff though Dear"

Why people pay for planted homes (garden homes) is beyond me too. But there is nothing wrong with that if its what you want. Just make sure there is a Silverado and it'll make you happy!

Blue skies, cool breeze and median price of $400,000 for homes. And they call this paradise.

    blackmax

Bought the factory fog lights about a year after I got my truck. Only reason was they were selling for $65 on ebay. Came with wiring harness, mounts, additional switch, and detailed instructions on install. After everything was installed, the last instruction was to program with the tech2 for operation. It's a good thing my truck is in at the dealers sooo often, this one time being an advantage.

    danoq

I had a 97.5 SC Regal on lease. At 33 months, took it into dealer to have all warranty issues addressed so I could decide whether or not to excercise the purchase option. Car had only 17,000 miles after 33 months. After I received the car back from the dealer's service department, I found that they could not duplicate any of the problems and even attributed my dash ratle to loose change in the ashtray. A real bunch of winners. Sooo...I left the Buick lot and drove 50' and turned into the GMC lot. Worked out a deal on a '00 Denali but still had 3 months payment left. Of course the dealer would roll it into the lease price but I told them to forget it, cause if I could't work out a deal with GMAC then there would be no deal on the Denali. What's interesting is that GMAC waived the last two payments (3 if you count security deposit) allowing me to turn the vehicle in that night and leave with the Denali. Actually, GMAC gave me two weeks to work out a deal and turn the Buick in
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
thinking about leasing the 2500...would have been the first time....the price was almost the same......and I just decided the heck with it...I wanna sell or buy when I say it's time....

But I do understand they can be cheaper...if you drive the minimum miles they offer with the plan...and it's nice to just give it back....if selling is not your bag......course with a purchase you could always just trade it in as well..

    Good Luck

Well I now have had my rado z71 for coming on six months. My problem is that my front bumper is rusting! I just noticed they forgot the block heater I paid for(listed, but not equipted) The rust problem is due to the fact they didnt rust proof the front bumper and god knows what else!! also my chevy logo on the front is got black blotches all over it. Does anyone have any Ideas on what I could try to get out of chevy. Ie: rerust proof entire vehicle or what. I am seriously pissed. This isnt like there was a faulty part or something. I mean they screwed up two things (rusting, no blk htr) aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

    Any comments will be appreciated.

According to http://www.wheels.com the order cutoff date for Chevy/GMC 1500's was April 6th. 2002 model production is scheduled to start on June 18th.

Since most dealers still have plenty of 2001's on their lots, I doubt they are placing heavy orders for 2002's right now. I would think that you could place an order for a 2002 and get close to the front of the line.

  • blacksilverblacksilver Member Posts: 69
I bet you have one, but just didn't find the power cord neatly stowed low on the drivers side, down near some power-steering tubing.

    Tim,
The option is yours on mileage. I always get the 15K per year lease. Until we moved I always had plenty of miles at the end so I never paid attention to a very important number. The overage price is negotiable and I got stuck with .15 cents a mile. I have seen it as low as .10 cents. You can trade in a lease also. If you call your leasing company and ask for a payoff they will tell you. Just make sure to get the most from the dealer and not get stuck with a difference.

    Scott,
If it is listed on your options and not installed you should have any problems from your dealer on getting it installed.

Thanks for the information on 2002 rado's.

If I can't find anything, guess I will shoot for a 2002 rado!

I know you could buy extra up front for farr lass per mile than after....and if you didn't use them...they would re-imburse you for it...of course you financed that overage that you didn't use....and payed interest which you don't get back I'd imagine..??

I'll stick with buying.....with GMO discount truck was $30,008.....1 year and 8 months later....KBB is $29,500...and several are listed here for similar prices.....don't mean they are selling....but even at $26K....I can sell it..pay off loan...and walk away with 6K now....making my payment per month $298 for a 2500 LT...(when ya figure it back into payments)

Has anyone changed their auto trans to synthetic? Is this a wise move? Thanks!
  • danogdanog Member Posts: 318
formula! Brain lock is preventing me from figuring out what GMO stands for? Sounds like you have it figured out to be ahead when you go in to the dealer. That is something I have never been able to do!
Maybe I can go down a order a new truck just to my taste. I think that would make it worth actually biting the bullet and buying it instead of leasing. Payments are usually much closer than most realize. I can always contract on the side to make up any difference.

..it's GM Order.....and GMS is GM out of STOCK

,,,aka GMO is the discount I get for being a family member of a GM employee....GM ORDER

    - Tim
  • erikheikererikheiker Member Posts: 230
I personally think leasing is not the way to go for most people. It's great for GM because most people can't pay off the residual and so they're stuck getting a new truck when the old one is barely broken in. Of course, you can always finance the residual, but if that's the case, just finance from the start. You're going to pay for the truck one way or another. You might as well own it from day one. Another problem is turning in a vehicle with low miles. If you paid for 45k miles then you should turn it in with as close to 45k as you can. If you're over, you get charged, but if you're under, I'll wager you don't get credit. At least not the same amount as if you'd gone over. My trucks are a long-term investment. My 89 was paid off in 91 so I drove it with no monthly payments for 9.5 years. My 01 will be paid off next year. I'm looking forward to 7 to 10 years of no monthly payments. It sure beats having monthly payments that go on a lifetime.
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
That's the discount I got. Somewhere in the corporate structure we supply something to GM.

My GMS discount let me order my truck at a cost of GMO + 3%.

I haven't looked at GMO, but I understood it to be an employee discount, stock or order. Certainly the GMS is stock or order.

    See:

    http://www.gmsupplierdiscount.com/

    for GMS program details.

  • danogdanog Member Posts: 318
Just kidding. It sounds like a computer board now with all the GMO GMS stuff.
Erik, I agree with you on the lease deal. You definitely don't get a credit if your under mileage. No payment is a great thing once you get in that situation. I may have to buy an older truck to break the leasing cycle.
Mike, good link. Unfortunately I don't qualify for the plan. Oh well, guess I'll have to pay more.
    Dano
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
Miles you buy up front...aka "extra"....DO get refunded if not used...but the base miles...(12-15K).....don't get refunded if not used....but you did pay for them!

To lease for 2-3...then buy and finance for 2-4 more is not the way to go.....if you want to own it..buy it from day one......

Lease "deals"...allow people to buy cars they would not be able to afford.......but those have calmed down....Chevy didn't offer crud on Ado's for almost 2 years...and then when they do....big deal..

They keep all the bread and butter on the high profit models!

To buy new...sell in 1.5-2.5 years...pay off loan..walk with X cash has always been good for me...

as I have said before...last time I did this....3 new trucks in 6 years......cost me about 10K......sure beats having the same one for 6 years....but at least it's all yours!

....then wife made me get married....GRRRRR...buy another house..GRRRRR..now I'm back on the plan...gonna take the cash from this one...roll it into an 8.1 HD CC...($3K) more than current truck..and have payment go from $598.77 to about $475.........and so on and so on ..etc...

problem is...as I'm older....and drove that last truck for 11 years...I'm just not as excited as I was when younger about a new truck...or any car for that matter.......perhaps HD will be a 5 year truck for me?

    who knows?

I gotta get thru the day first!

    Enjoy

    Tim,

I am definitely not proficient with math so can you give me the Numbers for Dummies version of your plan?
    I see it this way, and please correct me;
Buy the truck for $30,000 on a 60mth loan,
Sell the truck in 1.5-2.5 years for more than you owe,
Payoff the loan and roll the cash back into another purchase.
    Right???? Sorry..

Anything close to MSRP will not work.

Leasing works when you are able to write off the whole amount vs. taking standard 5 year depreciation. What's great about it is walking away after 3 years. Or 2 with Ford's red carpet. Hmmm....maybe a Lightning next....
  • tucsonjwttucsonjwt Member Posts: 265
your new truck off the dealer's lot. The only way I see any financial benefit in buying a new vehicle is if you keep it a long time (like 10 years) and it doesn't turn out to be a lemon. Otherwise, I would expect a new vehicle to depreciate $2K -4K per year in the early years, even with a GM discount. My $.02 and well worth it. :):)
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
was bought with gm supplier deal

MSRP was close to 33K. My price was like 27 something. After taxes title registration and a few accessories (bedliner, nerf bars, rail caps, bug deflector) was($29,691)

The supplier deal took off almost 5K

Also used $500 is gm points

to convince yawl again...so do as ya please...but yeah danog....this area is good for some reason for that.....and the theory you had was right

perhaps in the days of old...with high rates and cheap cars...or something!.....you couldn't sell it in 2 years for more than you owe...but that's not true today....2 years on a 60 Mo loan...nothing down for my truck..payoff is under 19K...with a selling price of I would guess about $26 - $28K

    works for me..

    enjoy

    - Tim

GMO might have saved me almost 2K with tax and all...but still..even at invoice plus $500 one could make it work...

don't try it and have it fail and whine to me....but I am just sharing what I do...
  • danogdanog Member Posts: 318
I usually don't read the ads but I caught Sundays ads and remember why I dislike dealers. They make it sound like your getting a great truck, cheap, but read the fine print and notice the $2500+ 1st payment and all really is not good. Oh well, I am not gonna try and change things just will attempt to find a deal that will work for me.
The best option I have is wait to return the truck, then wait 1 year making the same payment to myself and use it as a down payment. Guess I can bum rides for a year or so. Wish I still had my 1971 Chevelle!!!!

Well, got the truck paid off last month. 564.08 a month is gone now. Paid off the 99 the day I traded it for the 2000. Ended up gettting a check from the dealer to pocket, because I had to finance so much for the college grad rebate. Will probable end up waiting for a 2003 model pickup. Oh yeah, im from the country and I like it that way. We built a very large all brick home about five years back in the middle of 500 acres we own. Nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away and that is my uncle. Got about 300k in the house, and it would be over a million in the area where a relative lives around st louis, if it was on a decent sized lot. So value varies alot according to location. Oh yeah, we did alot of the work ourself and were our own contractor too, which saves costs. The stinkin cabinets were over $25,000.

I have never had a lease but I have looked into them and I could never see a huge advantage. I do not get any of the GM incentives or anything like that but I have bought many new vehicles and have always made money on them.

My first truck was a 91 Cheyanne metallic blue sportside. Very nice looking truck. I got screwed, meaning I paid sticker price, what do you want I was young! I think sticker was 17 grand. I paid on it for 3 years and traded it for a 94 rado. Very nice truck. Sticker was 21 grand with trade I financed 14 grand. I paid off the truck in 5 years and traded it for a 99 blazer, no loan on the truck and they gave me 17 grand for the trade....I know its hard to believe but it's true. Actually they sold it while I was in the dealers office talking about the blazer. 29000 blazer and we financed 10 grand, so we will make money on that deal...maybe.

Unfortunately I hated the blazer and missed having a truck so I gave it to my wife and bought my '00 rado. Which I kinda got screwed on but I love it (pretty much) and I know I will pay it off and make some money on it. No I will not get more than I paid for it but if prices keep going up...which they will, then I'll probably be able to get 18 - 20 grand in a few years.

One last thing...I keep my trucks in excellent condition so I'm sure that helps and I usually put less than average mileage on them.

    Just my .02 worth...maybe a little more,
    Mark

Danog....but see...some people can't afford the truck..but they can scrape up $2500 plus 1 payment.....and then can afford the payment....so someone is falling for it....

71 Chevelle?...now we are talking!.....but all they do is go fast in a straight line....forget about ride...turning..or braking....but I hear ya brudduh..

Hunter..sounds like a cool set up......when do we come over for small game hunting?...LOL

....you do drywall mud or roofing?....gotta me me someone...

I know I said I wasn't going to do it, but I'm going to install my nerf bars myself. I have some time, free access to a lift and any tool I can imagine, plus a willing cohort. Going to give the machine its first oil change at the same time.

I got stainless steel nerfs for my x-cab from Cabelas for $340 delivered to the house. Look just like Westin's from what I see, but way cheaper than any other deal I've seen.

Anybody need plumbing done. I was sweating pipes under the house this weekend. Anything using fire is fun!

Putting 40 acres in the CRP, around the edges of some fields to help the wildlife. Will plant alsike clover, red top, and lespodesa. Hopefully this will help the quail and rabbit population out. We have alot of red tail hawks and some coyotes that keep the population way down. No phesants, no turkeys, just average sized deer.

So the hunting aint the greatest, but love being out by ourself basically.

    Have a great day
