What is the calculation for invoice cost for an Audi S3 premium plus? Is it 7% off of MSRP? Dealer claims that 6% off MSRP is invoice. Also does Audi utilize holdbacks?

Hi,

Audis have always had a 6% margin, and that is what the sales people are told they have to work with. The A3 and its derivatives does have a 7% spread from invoice to MSRP. Unless the salesperson actually did the calculations of dividing invoice by msrp, he would never know it was different on the a3. All other Audis have a 6% spread.
I "locked in" pricing on an A3 FWD sedan in January that is set for Feb delivery, but I've signed no papers. Has anything changed from Jan to Feb in terms of residual, money factors, dealer rebates, or anything at all that would justify going back to the dealer and asking them to pass the savings to me or restructure the deal based on the changes?
Any new residual/MF numbers for February as of yet? My current lease is up 3/2, so looking to pull the trigger some time in late Feb. Location is NC, interested in an A3 Prestige 2.0 TFSI, 36/15K.

Quick question about OPTIONS .... Im i able to remove unwanted installed options like FIRT AID KIT / CARGO NET / ALL WEATHER MATS from the vehicle making it a little more affordable? or are those included regardless if buyer wants them or not? Just trying to get my monthly payment as affordable as possible...:)

I don't think the price of those options will have a material affect on your payment; for every $1000 you save, the payment on a 36 month lease goes down about $28. A few hundred dollars of options will bring your payment down $7-10.
The 42 month MF is .00117; with your MSRP and net cap cost, I get a pre-tax payment of $430.56.
Dealer is allowed to mark up the base MF to increase their profit; it's possible that's what's happening here.
I have a hunch that when I presented the F&F discount, the dealer marked up the MF to compensate.
Using MF of .00117 and original MSRP [no discount] I calculate a pre-tax payment of $482.16
Using MF of .00117 and F&F discount, you calculated a pre-tax payment of $430.56
I was quoted $467.94.
To get to a pre-tax payment of $467.94, I calculate the MF to be above .00182. In other words, above 4.3%.
Note that the dealer quoted an APR of 2.9% to purchase the same vehicle [$2,400 down, 60 month term].
Comparing the two, is the MF abnormally high compared to the APR? Is it fair to compare the MF on a lease to an APR on a purchase? In other words, is this a good bargaining point to use with the dealer?

I've never found it useful to compare purchase APR to lease MF .. some months, the marketing folks want to promote buying and will set up a low APR; other months, they promote leasing with a low MF and higher than normal residual.
Rarely are they the same .. you should run the numbers both ways and go whichever direction makes the most sense to you.
Wanted to get your thoughts on this deal that I got over email in MA:
The initial deal was for a $36080 car, leased at $397 per month with nothing out of pocket except for first months payment. However, after I received all the info and a little back and forth, seems we agreed on the following
MSRP 36080 Sale price 31000 Fees 1233 Cap Cost 32233 Residual 20926 MF .00097 Sales Tax 6.25%

Do you know what rebates were included to get you to that $31000 figure?
I visited my local Audi dealer this evening to inquire about a European Delivery on a '15 A3. We priced out a Prestige 2.0 TFSI, 39-month lease, 10k miles. I was quoted .0167 money factor and 54% residual, which seem off from what I'm reading on here.
Can somebody tell me what the money factor/residual should be on a 39-month/10k mile lease? Does it differ for a 36-month/10k miles? Curious to know if rates change between a 2.0 Prestige vs. 2.0 Premium Plus.

I am looking to lease a 2015 Audi A3 Premium Plus (1.8T or 2.0T). Can someone please give me the money factors and residual percentages for a low-mileage lease (7500 mi/yr) for the following terms: 36 mo, 39 mo, and 42 mo. I have a 780 credit score. I am located in PA if that matters. Thanks in advance!

2013 Audi A3 2.0T quattro Premium Plus.
Base price: $33,200
Metallic Paint: $ 550
Premium Plus: $ 2,550
Destination: $ 895
MSRP Total: $37,195
Audi Friend and Family Discount Price = Dealer Invoice + $300
Per Dealer the F&F Discount Price = $35,103
NOTE: subtracting the $300 gives a presumed dealer invoice of $34,803
MRSP $37,195 car represents a 6-7% markup from Invoice of $34,803
42 month lease
12k miles per year
Purchase Option [which I assume means residual] = $19,686.85
Purchase Option/Residual = 53% of MSRP $37,195
Location: Upstate New York, which I acknowledge may affect residual b/c of
weather
Lease Rate: $467.94 w/o taxes ------> But this seems high to me.
MSRP: $37,195
Sale Price: $35,103
Residual: $19,686.85
Total Depreciation: $15,416.15
Depreciation/Month [42 months]: $367.05
Sale Price + Residual x MF = Interest/month [w/o taxes]
54,789.85 x MF = Interest/month [w/o taxes]
I don't know the MF, so I scoured the forms and found the closest listed ones for
2.0T quattro Premium Plus
54,789.85 x MF of .00097 [2.328%] = $53.146 + $367.05 = $420.196 = Lease Rate w/o taxes
54,789.85 x MF of .00102 [2.448%] = $55.885 + $367.05 = $422.935 = Lease Rate w/o taxes
54,789.85 x MF of .00152 [3.648%] = $83.280 + $367.05 = $450.330 = Lease Rate w/o taxes
Unless my MF numbers are off, the dealer is marking up the lease rate by at least by $20/month, if not $45/month.
Any thoughts on whether my numbers are off, I'm missing something, the dealer is hiding costs/markups, or I need to bargain harder?
