I bought a ltd. 4 x 2 last w/end for $39,000 from a local dealer. Had moonroof, side air bags, up-graded CD player, spoiler etc.Prices seemed to be in that 39k-40k. region..carsdirect were a bit cheaper, but it meant a trip to Longo in LA. I was partial as this is my nearest dealer. My only sweat is the bridgestone tyres, which I am not crazy about.

I picked my Sequoia on 11/30/01 and have been loving it. Really smooth and shifts just like the Lexus line of cars!

Anyway, price was $500 over dealer invoice, end of story. Any way the SUV is equiped +$500. Hope this helps anyone out there planning to pick up one of these. Good luck.

    Just bought a silver 2WD 2002 Sequoia Limited with all Toyota Options except moon roof. Has side air bags, premium stereo, rear spoiler, daytime running lights. Also has these type dealer things--floor mats, glass etching, cargo nets & cover, "Extra Mile" option, night vision mirror, road hazard warranty, door edge guards & the like. MSRP was $42,500 I bought it for $39,000. Think I got an average deal, I can live with it and the dealer has to eat too-- ;-}

Sounds like a nice truck. Welcome. To feel good about the deal is most important--it was well below MSRP.

hi there! I am a newbie. Would appreciate any help with good deals found on limited 2wd around gainesville. Don't know if its bc I am a woman but dealers aren't taking much off for me. How close to invoice are people in this area getting and can you recommend a dealership?
    Thanks for any help!

I got a little lucky - I think. It was a pretty cold day down here in Texas along with the Auto Show in town for the weekend. They seemed a bit desperate that they had only sold 2 cars the entire day and it was after 5:00pm. My car had a MSRP of $41,228. I got them down to $37,750 - $3500 off of sticker.

I might have gotten them down to $37,500 but my wife was starting to get a little waery of the whole process. :)

I am new to this board and welcome all the info I can get on my Sequoia. We leased ours last April and the dealer paid off 3 months of the trade-in lease, didn't take the vehicle for trade, we sold that one for what the bank wanted. We got the Sequoia out the door for 41,000, plus a check for 1500 to pay off the lease. I think we did ok, no money out of our pockets at all. We used the info from Edmund's on how to arrange a lease and it worked great!

Just picked up my '02 SR5 4x2 this weekend. It's essentially the same vehicle as yours...minus the daytime RL's. Price paid was $34,550 plus tax, title, license. That's about $3,500 off MSRP. Total out the door...$38,041. AZ tax is a bit higher (7.2%) and license fees are calculated relative to the vehicle book value, which in the case of a Sequoia can be steep. Hope this helps.

Start with www.carsdirect.com. I consider this a baseline price although you might be able to do better. Edmunds.com pricing, I have found is a little unrealistic for Sequoia anyway - if you found a dealer willing to sell you a vehicle at that price - buy!

Also, don't just walk into the dealer and ask for a price. Submit a price quote request through a site such as www.edmunds.com, msn, aol, etc. To do so on Edmunds select the Sequoia your looking for though the new car menu, configure and you should get to an option for a price request.

You can avoid a lot of hassle because you get connected to a dealers "Internet" department and there pricing is competitive even for a Sequoia in todays economy.

I found Toyota way to proud and unwilling to deal off MSRP until the last few months on the Sequoia.
The Toyota dealers will deal now, however! Cheers!

I wanted to lease, so I looked at fully loading an SR5 rather than buying an LTD. (The residual is higher on the SR5). We got the Alloy Wheel, Convenience, and Preferred Packages, as well as rear spoiler, floor mats, sunroof, head/side curtain airbags, Keyless, DRL, etc. The car had a factory invoice of $40116. In Florida, you're typically stuck with Jim Moran's distributorship ordering base cars and then doing his own option packages to the car. Done that way, the car would have had a much higher MSRP and would not have had the 6-disc in-dash changer and possibly not the side curtain airbags. Edmunds.com is not much help, since Moran's packages don't exactly mirror Toyota's factory packages. I went to the dealer and insisted that I wanted the "PM" Preferred Package with the 6-disc in dash CD player, leather, power/lumbar seats, etc. I also told them I wanted the side curtain airbags. I spoke with 3 dealers and an independent leasing agent, and they all told me I'd never find a Preferred Package and side curtain airbags on an SR5 on a Florida Toyota dealer's lot. I knew they were out there (via an inventory search on Toyota.com) but in limited supply with these options. I pressed the issue, and low and behold they located one coming in 2 weeks. I got the truck for $37400. I pushed and pushed to get that number lower, but they wouldn't budge. $2700 off MSRP for a car with difficult options to find wasn't bad. They showed me an invoice of about $36,400...but I know that number had holdback and dealer advertising. I suspect they made a little over $2000 on me, but I got the *exact* vehilce I wanted at the payment I wanted.

Final numbers: 36month, 15000 mile/year lease with $1000 due at inception (1st month payment, tags, FL fee, and about $125 downpayment against the cap cost). $618/mo.x 35 payments remaining (that figure includes 6% sales tax). Had I purchased the vehicle with 5 year financing, I'd have had an $800 payment (if tax was rolled into the financed amount).

If the car wasn't so damn hot (and the options I wanted weren't so hard to find in this area), I'd have gotten the payment a considerable amount under $600/month.

I had a hard time finding the SR5 with just the options I want. I called Reinhardt Toyota in Montgomery, Alabama. I got the best deal and service I have ever had. I told them I was willing to pay $1500 over invoice. They had an SR5 on the lot similar to what I wanted. The only problem was it had leather and I didn't want leather. Well, rather than try and search for a vehicle and transfer one they offered me the one on their lot for $1000 over invoice. There are no documentations fees or any other fees. The only thing on my contract is the price of the vehicle, sales tax, and title fee($16.50). And they gave me a rate that matched my bank (6.75% @ 72 months). I fully recommend Reinhardt Toyota.

I have a test drive scheduled for Mon. I have time to do a factory order so I've seen some of the suggestions for options, stereo upgrade, keyless entry and convenience pkg. Is there anything else? The dealer told me they have an "internet deal" of 3% over delaer invoice. I'm looking at an SR5 4x2, mostly because that's what I can afford with some options (Dual Air, upgraded captains chairs, keyless entry, daytime running lights and styled wheels). MSRP $33,785, Dealer inv. $30,448, my price $31,361. I'll probably add the alloy wheel pkg and spoiler and upgrade the stereo. Still need to compare with 2 other local dealers. Thanks for any input.

Picked up my Jade Green Ltd 4x4 on March 15 After 5 month wait. Here in Canada, Sequoias
only come in the 4x4 version and the Ltd comes completely loaded. (ie. spoiler, side curtain
airbags, moonroof etc. are standard features). I got a special deal from the dealer due to some
unfortunate previous circumstances, but the total I paid, I will convert to US dollars using a
$0.63 Canadian dollar and excluding federal and provincial sales taxes (which add up to 17.5%)
    Base = $53,250 CDN ($33,550 US)
    PDI* = $ 1,675 CDN ($ 1,050 US)
    TOTAL = $54,925 CDN ($34,600 US)

*PDI includes freight, Pre-delivery inspection, documentation, Federal air tax of $100.00,
provincial tire and battery levy of $20.00, and undercoating costing $195.00

If you add back in the sales taxes of 17.5% (some $9600.00 CDN or $6050 US) it was
    pretty darn expensive!!!

Awesome! I wish I had gone to Canada. You still saved $5,000 even with the high taxes.

Finally bought a 4x2 Limited from King Toyota in Deerfield Beach. I got kelly blue book on the trade in, which always seems lower than edmunds, but was good enough considering the tax savings.
I used some of the online buying services to get quotes emailed to me and King Toyota was up front with the price which made it worth the drive to go look at it.
This is after having to take money back from Kendall in Miami, who tried to give me less for my trade the day after my paperwork was done and the Sequoia was already on order. There are not too many Sequoias on the lot in Miami, so a 3-4 week wait is expected for the vehicle you want if you buy here.

We have had our Black 2002 Sequoia SR5 4WD for 4 days, we paid $39,131, with every option except heated seats and the curtain airbags. We also got the hood protector, cargo cover and floormats.
I really like this SUV so far, the feedback from the forum only reassures me that we made the right decision!

looking to buy a sequoia 4x4 ltd in the chicago area. my initial conversations with dealers have not yielded much success. One dealer thru autobytel is offering $2600 over invoice and another claims that his average deal is $3000 over invoice. he also insists that toyota does not give a holdback or any other incentives to the dealers on sequoias. has anyone had a similar experience?
  • zman3zman3 Member Posts: 857
I do not own a Sequoia, but I know of two individuals who have purchased Sequoia's in the Minneapolis area for $1000 (or less) over invoice. These were through credit union's using the fleet departments, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't get the same deal if you called the proper contacts at the dealers.

Let me know if you want more info. It may be worth a drive up here.

I'll be in the market soon. Thank you.

I worked the dealers back and forth by sending price quotes by email from dealer to another. Buying a 2002 White Toyota Sequoia 2WD Limited with every available option May 25, 2002 FINAL PRICE $38,000 - USED DEALER HOLDBACK TO MAKE THE DEAL AND FACTORY CUSTOMIZED. Some of the options:

    Base Price $36530.00

Hint: Go to the biggest dealer last and order customized direct from the factory, the dealer profits on his/her holdback. Second Hint: Don't hesitate to get several dealers fighting back and forth with your sale, just be very pleasant and not uppity about what is happening as your price goes down over and over again.

Basically, I got a loaded SR5 last weekend, 4wd and paid $500 over inovice (yes, I saw the invoice).

We just ordered an SR5 with lots of options. The best I could do was $800 over invoice through a broker. The best I could get through dealers and internet managers was $1000 over. He also got us a 5.45% loan rate. So far it has been hassle-free. Hopefully, it will stay that way!

Invoice? Hardly. You might get a good deal relative to what others are spending if you move fast and shop this week, also consider travelling to SoCal.

I just started looking for a 2002 Sequoia SR5 2WD and I really want a sunroof, but they tell me I have to get all these other packages just to get the sunroof (AH, LF, DJ, GY) Is that true, or can I special order a specific package from the factory. Could use some help, I am new at this, haven't bought a car in ten years and then it wasn't me who made the deal. Thanks
  • gregfockergregfocker Member Posts: 39
You can special order the Sequoia with whatever you want but it will take around 3 months. In addition, dealers may be less likely to give you deep discounts for a special order item. Something to consider when straying away from the norm...

I'm about to buy an SR 5 Silver 4x2 in Tx, with minimal options (Convenience package, alloy wheels package, keyless entry, roof rack, daytime lights, captains chairs - cloth). Invoice price is approx $31,250. What should I offer dealers? This will be ordered so they will get entire dealer holdback. What have others paid?
  • oldcoyoteoldcoyote Member Posts: 8
Verify price at KBB as well as Ed & be sure it includes all freight and advertising/admin fee. Maybe pay $100 - 200 over. The 2003 will be here soon at higher prices.

Well I pulled the trigger on a new Sequoia Limited Saturday. I was able to get it for $5,199 under list,$40,272 which is invoice. List was $45,371,no dealer add ons. They gave me 4.75% for 5 years through Chase bank and $19,000 for my 99 SR5 with 40,000 miles on it. I think I did pretty well, does anybody have an opinion on how I did ? I am curious ! I purchased this in the Chicago area at a place called Libertyville Toyota. They had an invoice sale on many vehicles including 5 to 7 Sequoia's. I puchased a Silver Sky color. This is the second Toyota I have purchased from this dealer, they were great !!!!!!
  • jimb22jimb22 Member Posts: 17
You did great! The rest of us are jealous. I paid $43,000 for my 2001 Limited and got $10,000 on my 97 4-Runner SR5 trade with 105,000 miles. I know I got ripped but I just had to have my SEQ. I was buying this SUV 2 days after I first saw it in the mall. I've been loving it ever since. It would have been nice to get a better deal but I have no regrets. I guess the rest of us don't want to admit how much we paid since we did not get your sweet deal.
  • nodefectnodefect Member Posts: 26
I guess I did pretty good then huh? Last year this same dealer was only going $1000 under list. Car dealers must be hurting! I hope the Sequoia is not in for a change in 03, thus the great deal on the 02. I really was going to wait on the new 4Runner or Gx 470, but we saw the add in the paper and were shocked when we went in and they honored it. They actually advertised their new Sequoia's at invoice, showing the list and sale price(invoice) in the paper. The deal was too good to pass on, so we took it.I thought they'd even the deal out on my trade in, but they gave me excellent condition money for mine according to Kelley's. They really stunned me with the financing, I came in with the idea I was going to use my credit union and they destroyed my credit unions rate by almost a full point. We drove by the dealer the other day and all of their 02 Sequoia's are gone! I guess they wanted to move them and they did. I guess the newness of the Sequoia is gone and soon we'll be seeing 1.9% on them. I'm with you, I love this SUV ! The 4Runner was a great ride, but this one is superior.

  • wants_sequoiawants_sequoia Member Posts: 2
    I tried buying one - was unsuccessful - :(
They claimed their invoice cost was 32,950 (with the options I wanted and advertising cost, which they say is appox. $750). They won't even talk about selling at invoice, but would have probably sold at 1K above invoice. So that would make it about 34K for SR 5 4x2 with convenience package, alloy wheel package, captains chairs, dual A/C, plus a couple of dealer options totalling $300. I would pay 32K for this, maybe a little more if I believed their advertising charges.
  • raybearraybear Member Posts: 1,795
Well, looks like you're gonna have to consider another car. Ad costs in your area are high, maybe not that high, but they are the worst in the Country. Asking below invoice is just going to earn you frustration. I've seen Sequoias offered at $200 over at best, including ad fee.
  • pharonoffpharonoff Member Posts: 1
In the NY metro area I received an offer to buy a new 2002 4wd Sequoia Ltd. for 43,500 (before tax). It came with a DVD player; 6 CD changer; head & side airbags; spoiler; running lights; pwr sunroof; and mats.

Is this a good or fair price?
  • ibmindlessibmindless Member Posts: 62

If you would simply use the info supplied by Edmunds, you would discover that the TMV price is $41510 with your stated equipment --- NOT including a DVD player.

Is that a good price? Sure, if you don't do your homework. Is it a fair price? It would seem so. Could you do better? Depends on how much effort you're willing to put into the homework aspect.
  • nodefectnodefect Member Posts: 26
Look at my post #93. I think you can get one at this price ! I think I got a great deal in the Chicago area.
