My dealer has a new 2002 Sequoia LTD. The sticker price including the options is 45,000. What is a fair price for this truck. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the reply and links. I did read them over and they provide some good negotiating tips.

I have a couple different dealerships that I am negotiating with, but have yet to get them down near the TMV. I asked the one sales rep to send me the link to this 'internet disclaimer' her referred to about Edmunds pricing and he just ignored me.

I'm really getting frustrated with this process..I hate car shopping!

Planning to buy Sequoia '03. Does any one have good deals from a Houston Toyota dealer lately? If so how much did you pay for the SR5 and who is the dealer. I know it depends on options selected but ball park number will do.

Friend of mine just bought a 2003 SR5 MSRP of 35400 for 31500 + free running boards at mike calvert at 610 south loop. If you e-mail me I can provide the dealer to speak too.

The invoice prices of Toyota on edmunds doe not include the TDA of $675(Toyota Dealer Advertising fee) that the Toyota Dealers charge you.

So when a Toyota dealer claims Invoice+X you have to add $675 to the invoice price you see on edmunds.

Toyota is the only manufacturer does that.

All other manufacturere's invoice price exactly matched between the invoice price on edmunds and the dealers tell you.

2003 Sequoia Limited, Silver Sky Metallic
    EJ (6-disc changer)
    GY (side air bags)
    RF (rear spoiler)
    RL (daytime running lights)
    SR (moonroof)
    C7 (convenience package)
    G4 (floor mats)
    HP (hood protector)

    Sticker (incl. dest charge): $47019
    Invoice (incl. dest charge): $41845
    Paid: $41845

Reading this board and Edmunds TMV was a great help in being able to buy with confidence and just in knowing how to approach the purchase with the dealer.

Our dealer didn't attempt to charge an advertising fee. She faxed us the invoice and it matched Edmunds exactly, except for the couple of dealer adds that Edmunds does not list any figures for--we checked those against vehicles at another dealer.

Please do post your purchase details for others to benefit from.

We are looking to buy a Sequioa next month. Is it possible to get an SR5 with leather interior? Leather interior is the only option that I must have. I live in Meridian, MS and my dealership options are limited. I e-mailed three dealerships within a two hour drive. Received responses from two. One came back with cloth seats and $7,000 worth of options I didn't want. What exactly is "leather faced seat package"? Is this full leather? It costs $1,698 and then they listed cloth captains chairs for $745 on the same invoice? What's up with that? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. DebbieR

In NY that package gives you full leather plus steering wheel audio controls.........It doesnt give you leather door inserts like the Limited has and the seat backs are probably not leather, but who sits on the backs of the seats??
Why not build a Sequoia so you get exactly what you want? It takes about two months but I think it was well worth the wait. Mike
  • sequoiasoonsequoiasoon Member Posts: 223
Check a couple other Sequoia threads and search for leather. A couple members here added aftermarket leather for a cheaper price with better quality leather and highly recommended it. They can probably give you better details on e-mail.

Check the inventory on the internet at Fort Bend Toyota. Request a quote and they will send you their lowest price. We purchased an SR5 and I believe we got a good deal!

    AJINNM,
What dealership quoted you that price? I've requested information from Sterling and Fred Haas Toyota but was wondering if one has a better reputation than the other.
    Thanks!

Well, in Alvin, TX actually (just south of Houston) - at Ron Carter Toyota. Just bought a fully loaded SR5 with after market leather, driver and pass window tint, and rear spoiler for 1% over invoice, which worked out to be something like $340 over invoice. The only costs after that included sales tax of 6.25%, inventory tax of 0.2%, and $149 documentation and title fees. I found that their "below line" fees at Ron Carter are low compared to other dealers. Plus, the buying experience was very easy and professional, with little haggling required. I probably could have squeezed them on a few hundred more dollars for some of the advertising or holdback fees, but I felt that I was getting a pretty fair deal. I think that 1% over invoice is pretty good for almost any vehicle. Oh yes, I also took advantage of the $2000 cash back offered by Toyota right now on the SR5's -- expires on June 2.
  • hand2printhand2print Member Posts: 2
How much did you end up paying for the Sequoia in Alvin? I'm looking for a good deal and want to know if the additional $1000 most dealers charge for advertisting, TDA(?), MAF(?) are negotiable.
Can't seem to find any site that mentions these charges but dealers don't want to see to give them up.
Anyone in Alvin I should talk to?

    Thanks!
  • reaureau Member Posts: 18
All right, we test drove today. As to my question about the "leather faced seat" package - it looks like a completely leather interior to me. Unfortunately, we got a guy who has only been selling for a couple of months and was not at all knowledgeable. Had to look up everything in the brochure, as we were driving the Sequioa.

Well, we think now we want a solid white, only to find that you can only get a solid color (other than silver) in a Limited. Do I really have to pay for a bunch of extras I don't want to get a solid white Sequoia? How stupid is that????
We are talking about $6,000 just so I can get a solid color car? Go figure. You would think it would cost less to get a solid color car.

I just really think the two-tone colors will date the car. I kept my last car for ten years and it still looks pretty good.

Is the extra money worth it? Are the Limited's that much better?

    Thanks, DReau

If you don't mind, can I please send you an email instead? According to the Town Hall Administrator, I was not supposed to post a phone number due to security concerns, etc. Do you mind providing me with your email address for me to contact you?

    Thanks.

Anyone out there get a good deal in CT????
  • jeff88jeff88 Member Posts: 94
From what I can tell, the only sr5 that is in a single color is the silver one. Otherwise, I think the rest are 2-tone.

It's funny, I agree with you about the sequoia not looking as good in 2-tone as the Ltd, but in the explorer, I really like the eddie bauer with the same 2-toned underside. Go figure.
  • momof1momof1 Member Posts: 1
In Texas I have been told by my dealer that I can have any Sequoia I would like for 2% over invoice. Is this a good deal? It seems like it. The only thing is that they have a 1% finance reserve MSRP fee in addition to the 2% holdback MSRP.

    Thanks for your input.

Okay, I did the build your own car, found exactly what I wanted listed in the available Sequoia listing on the web page - it says it will be available July 2, 2003.

How do I find out who has the Sequoia now? I live in MS and e-mailed a dealer in Atlanta (we will be vacationing there and dealers here are not very helpful). He tells me the Sequoia I picked is in central Florida!! and he has one that I will be interested in. He does give me a decent price (I think) and says it has everything I want (solid white, moonroof and DVD) and not all the extras I don't want and don't want to pay for.

The one he has does have moonroof and is white but it does not have the DVD. He says they have a place they've used for years that can install a 7" for $1,599.

My question is this, I like the Sequoia I built on the web page and I have the vin # it shows, is there a way to find out where that specifid car is on the web page? If it says it will be available July 2nd, does that mean it may not even have arrived yet? Is this guy telling me straight, or just trying to get rid of what is on his lot?

    Thanks for any help. DebR
  • sequoiasoonsequoiasoon Member Posts: 223
With an availabilty date of 7-2 it might not be built yet. I purchased my Sequoia in NC (also part of Southeast Toyota Distributers) I special ordered mine (took 3 months) The availible date was 5-9 and was not built until 4-24. The VIN# showing might not be the "actual" VIN. There is a VIN generated when the build order goes in and then the "true" shows when it is built. Any SET dealer can find where that particular vehicle is being sent. Bad news is somebody might have special ordered the exact one that you are looking at and has waited 2 1/2 months already for it to be made and delivered. Your dealer would be able to verify this also. I live in New York and purchased from Fred Anderson Toyota in Raleigh NC. The internet Manager was EXTREMELY helpful, straight forward on prices, options and timeframe and gave me a better deal than I got from NY. He was also able to get exactely what I wanted when NY didn't even want to try. Many stereo places have and install DVD systems for about $1200. You could check some of your local shops if that is the only hold up.
  • reaureau Member Posts: 18
Thanks for your helpful info. The dealer did tell me that the Sequoia I want is going to or is in Central Florida, was just wondering if this is verifiable. He did also tell me that they have someone they've used for years that installs DVD systems for them and the price is the same as the option price. Only thing is we do live four hours away and I didn't necessarily want to deal with someone else if the DVD has a problem.

Anyway, he seems to be giving me straightforward advice and gave me a selling price of $39,299 on a Sequoia with a MSRP of $43,420. Is this good?
Of course, then I would have to add the DVD for $l,599 for a 7"

What are your thoughts on this???

    Thanks!
  • reaureau Member Posts: 18
We are looking to buy shortly.

I saw a Sequoia (white LTD. 03) listed on a dealer web site for $45,010 available 6/21. It comes with side airbags, moonroof, mats, DVD and without any other added extras that I don't want. The internet salesman tells me that it is "on sale" for $41,000, plus $299.50 clerical fees.

What do you think about this price?

  • toyo6toyo6 Member Posts: 5
Not bad but you can probably do better depending on your area. I'd expect to pay around $40K (if 45K is the sticker) and no more than $50 for doc fees.
  • petro33petro33 Member Posts: 192
If its 4wd it sounds very good. There is not much other added stuff to get on a limited!
  • reaureau Member Posts: 18
    Thanks for the info.

No, the Sequoia is not 4wd. It was listed on the dealer's site (not the cars on their lot but available in the area) as being available June 21st and now I don't know where it is. It was exactly what I wanted.

Asked if he could go any lower and he was going on vacation and I will not be ready to purchase for a week.

    Will keep trying.

    Thanks for the helpful info.

Well, I finally picked up my 2nd Sequoia, When I bought the first one I had to pay sticker because of demand. I must say it was still a good deal. 56,000 miles and it runs like new, This one is the Limited and $600.00 over Edmunds invoice.
($41,166.00 + Tax & Tags). Loaded!!! (except the DVD player) Now I really am a HAPPY CAMPER! And I finally was able to use the 01 in the snow, I sure hope they got the A/C & brake problems fixed this time around.

I just purchased a 4x4 LTD at $8,000 below MSRP ($47,200 msrp-$8,000 discount=$39,200 paid... not including tax & license) in Orange County CA. FYI, Family Toyota will be offering all of their 4x4 LTD Sequoias at $8,000 below MSRP this weekend (June 26 through the 29th).

BTW, are those extended car care programs any good. They offered a package that guaranteed the paint, leather and carpet for five years for $299. My only reservation is that the guarantee is not with Toyota but with the company that puts on the sealants. I did purchase an extended 100,000 mile seven year platinum warranty for $1,200.

So far the car is fine but I am somewhat dissapointed in the soft interior plastic that scratches too easy and I wish the car came with memory seat positioning for the drivers seat. The car should also have the option of second row side air bags and the distance sensor when in reverse. While I'm venting I might as well add the floor mats are a joke...they don't fit well and are flimsy. I have to hand it to the Expedition for having a much better option selection and lower pricing (about $4,000 to $5,000 less). I hope over the long haul the quality of Toyota will make up the difference.

Sounds like you got a great price on your Sequoia.

We want to buy in the next few days, hopefully, the salesmen will cooperate. We live in a small town with one Toyota dealership. I have contacted two others that are within 1 1/2 hours drive.

I want white LTD with moonroof, DVD, airbags and mats. I don't want/need any of the package stuff.

So far I have two responses - one with a MSRP of $44,521 that will sell for $41,116 (with dealer fees that he did not disclose yet).

Another quote (an hour away) was what I want with Toyo Guard, daytime running lights and spoiler added. No MSRP given and price he'll sell for is $41,500, plus clerical of $299.

We need to buy very soon. Can I get some opinions please, my husband is leaving this all up to me, as it will be my truck.

    Thanks, Deb

Deb, I don't know if it a regional thing....but 4x4 limited sequoias are regularly listed in the paper here in southern california for $5,000 to $6,500 below MSRP. Just recently I have seen dealers advertising up to $8,000 off the msrp. And this is not just for a few specific loss leaders but for their entire inventory. As far as your options are concerned....the limited is already pretty well loaded. I think the spoiler, running boards are on all the limiteds. You might want to rethink the DVD...word has it that technology is moving so fast that current DVD players will be like 8-track tapes in a couple years. Then you will be stuck with that dinasour on your ceiling. In fact, at the local Best Buy you can purchase a portable DVD player for $400 to $800, depending on the size of screen. Heck, you can buy two portables...one for each kid and still have money left over. Plus you can upgrade in the future. Another alternative we are exploring is getting a laptop computer which offers many more functions at at about the same cost of built-in DVD. Anyway, good luck. If all else fails you can always pack up the family and flyout to Orange County, buy the Sequoia go to the beach and then drive home and still save money from what those local clowns are currently quoting you. ; )

Well, looks like I am stuck. To get what I want I will have to order and they tell me that it will take 6 to 8 weeks to get my Sequoia. Is this realistic??? I will be on vacation all of July so it won't matter too much.

I have been quoted MSRP of $45,221 and they will sell to me for $41,205, with tax and title, etc. comes to $43,420. I'm told I'm saving $4,000. Well, how is that? Oh, they also tell me white is a hot color and kept trying to sell me what was on the lot which did not have everything I wanted. (DVD, moonroof, mats and airbags).

Thanks for any input. (Do wish I was closer and could take advantage of those CA prices. I will be in CA in July but do not want to drive it back. I am a CA girl trying to deal with the MS thing.) Deb :)
  • toyo6toyo6 Member Posts: 5
Deb, $4000 off MSRP isn't terrible but check Edmunds TMV then check more dealers in your area.

As for ordering (6-8 weeks is reasonable)--definitely the way to go if you can get your price. Many dealers are less willing to give a good price on an order. I've heard that many people change their mind and the dealer is stuck with what might be a less-marketable configuration. Late in the model year especially.

Another advantage to ordering--underappreciated I think--is 6 people haven't slammed the pedal to floor test driving the vehicle before the engine even has 100 miles on it.

Suggestion: Fax and e-mail all the dealers in your area stating you will only order and you are prepared to buy today. List the color, trim and option codes you desire (you can get the options codes from the Edmunds web site) so they have all the information they need to quote you a price.

If you get 2-3 responses you will get a feel for what the right price is (no more than Edmunds TMV for sure) and you can usually find someone who will beat the best initial offer you receive. Or maybe your present dealer will suddenly realize he can do better.

Order what you want if you can get it. If you buy off the lot right now you are doing the dealer huge favor. If the '03 is still sitting there at the end of August (it is July) when the 04's roll in he'll have to discount it at least $8000 off MSRP to sell it. Use that to your advantage.

    Good luck :)

Check with moving companies on having it shipped from CA to MS, also other "local" trucking companies. Many look to fill the trailer with any load possible as opposed to empty return. You could buy in CA, drive it for your vacation, break it in yourself, have it at your door a week later. I moved from NY to NC and my company paid for movers. When they packed my apartment it barely filled the nose of the trailer. When they got to NC a week later in the back sectioned off from my stuff was somebodies full house, Grand Cherokee and a quad. I just flew with somebody a month ago that was getting paid $1500 plus expenses to drive an expedition and boat from GA to VT. If they have what you want in CA there are many options to get it home.

PS 6-8 weeks low side for "special order". I checked multiple dealers and the answer was 6-8 weeks (but could take up to 120 days) Ask them to show you how long some past orders took. I special ordered mine and it was 15 weeks. Orders go in twice a month 15th and 30th. If you order on the 16th it won't get submitted until 2 weeks later(my scenario). If the dealer can "change" an existing allocated vehicle it will be faster. IE everything you want is already being built but does not have DVD they can add that but can't change the blue to white.

Carson Toyota in CA has some good prices and large inventory check them on the WEB and send e-mail requesting info.

I'll take every brand new Sequoia with standard equipment for MSRP minus $8000 you can get me. Net/net invoice before holdback, finance reserve, destination, advertising etc. on the Sequoia Limited 4x4 (the one with the most mark-up) is 37209 and base MSRP is 43520.

All a post like that does is prevent someone from making a well-informed decision on a Sequoia when they see a $4000 discount on a Sequoia.
  • mitokc135mitokc135 Member Posts: 5
I see your point. So here are my options added to your "base" MSRP. The option prices are taken from the sticker.

JBL Upgrade:$200; Sunroof:$1000; Side Airbags:$500; Carpet Mats:$200; Rear Spoiler:$200, Glass Breakage System:$149; Alloy Wheel Locks:$59; Daytime Running Lights:$40. The options total $2,348. Summing the $2,348 in options with your base MSRP of $43,520 totals $45,868. Deducting my purchase price of $39,200 results in a savings of $6,668.

Is that what you were looking for?

Since I don't have the invoice, I guess I could take 20% off the sticker option costs and add that to your "net/net" invoice to see how much over the estimated "net/net" invoice price I paid. $2,348 x 80%=$1,878 + $37,209=$39,087, or about about $100 less than what I paid.

I hope this helps others make a well-informed decision.

Okay, I gave in and could not wait any longer. My car is literally falling apart. I ordered a white LTD with moonroof, DVD, side airbags and mats, and some stereo stuff. (Not my strong interest, it's a kid thing, along with the DVD. Kids would kill me if I didn't get that, or I would kill them when they are fighting. Another reason for a bigger car.)

I digress, the MSRP was $44,22l (I am told) and I paid $42,350.20 with tax, title, etc. out the door. This includes the $1,000 I got for my old Grand Marquis. Just want to get rid of it. He wouldn't budge on price and the only other dealers (2) are over an hour and a half away. Which wasn't that appealing, so I caved.

Well, he tells me six to eight weeks. Gave him a check for $500 today. Now, I am wondering when is the 04 coming out. Husband asked and now you bring it up. If they are coming out at the end of August - should I tell him to get me one of those instead? Are they changing at all?

I kept my last car for close to ten years and 150,000 so..... don't know if it will even matter. Just wondering.

Any thoughts? And please tell me they come in fairly close to schedule.

Thanks so much for the input, Deb
  • toyo6toyo6 Member Posts: 5
I'm sure you'll enjoy your Seq. Limited.

From the grapevine I've gathered only minor changes to the '04, like an option for a navigation system. The dealer probably won't switch your order to an '04 since it's technically a different vehicle but, hey, doesn't hurt to try.

As for the '03, just keep in mind you're taking a year of depreciation pretty much the minute you get it. If you're going to drive it 10 years that's no big deal. If you pay personal property taxes that are based on the vehicle value you might actually come out ahead since an '03 will be valued less than an '04 in the eyes of most taxing entities.

Let us know how you like it.

According to dealer websites, Gulf States Toyota dealers are offering $1,000 rebates on SR5's and no special financing. You may have heard about the Tundra with $2,000 OR 0% financing.

Any chance Toyota will up the $1000 rebate after 8/04/03. With Chevy and Ford having huge rebates @ $3000-$4000, hard to go with Toyota.

I am being offered a 42 month lease on a $46,600 (full list) Sequoia LTD.

The best offer so far is $1,500 down @ $652/month. Mileage is 12K per year. I am thinking this is a pretty solid offer - any opinions?
  • coupedncalcoupedncal Member Posts: 252
Leasing is no different from buying when it comes to dealer negotiation. Why would you agree to full list price even if it is a lease. Your lease rate is the difference of vehicle price minus the residual value after the expiration of lease. So try to make this difference amount as little as possible. Try to bring the dealer down to invoice price.

I am wondering if this is a good price. What do you think? I could not find anyone to sell it for less in Minnesota. Comments?

MSRP was 47350 on a white LTD

I paid 41200 which included the $1000 customer cash which toyota is now offering.

I received an Internet quote a few days ago, & wished to run it by you guys. Does this sound like a good deal for a 2003 Toyota Sequoia SR5 4x2, with the following options:

    AG
    AC
    GY
    CQ
    KE
    DR
    LF
    RL

    MSRP: $37,628
    Invoice: $33,709
    Incentive: $1,000
My Price after incentive: $32,077 + Fees as follows:

    Tax: $2,598.24
    Plates: $551.55
    DOC: $289
    Tire Tax: $5

    Total Price out-the door: $35,520.79.

Just purchased a 2003 Sequoia Limited 2WD with the following options:

EJ - JBL Premium 3-in-1 Combo w/ 6 Disc CD
    GY - Driver/Pass Curtain & Side Airbags
    RF - Rear Spoiler
    SR - Moonroof
    HY - Rear Audio
    QA - Rear Load Leveling
    GN - Cargo Net
    WL - Alloy Wheel Locks
CF - Floor Mats w/ Door Sill Protectors

MSRP including Destination Fee ($510) was $44276.
    I paid $39450

    Good deal or not?

If you live in the northern US, it is quite difficult to find used Sequoias. Not so, in the Fla, Tex or CA. This translates to higher new vehicle prices up north.

IMHO, any time you pay >10% off of MSRP, you are doing well. I recently purchased one for 11% off + toyotas $1000 which made it 13% off. I was unable to beat this # across town or by driving 200 miles to the next town.
