GG, a fair summary. You do get something for your money, and he V6 did drive "heavier", or more substantial. I would be interested in your take on the V6 FWD model too.

Stick....I drove an ‘18 TLX V6 with Tech when I first bought mine. They hadn’t done a PDI yet and it had all the plastic inside they had to clean up. They told me to take the Tech for the day until they had mine finished (they know how to lock you in once you give them the go ahead.... :)

So they let you take a car that would later be sold to someone else? How would they explain the extra milage? Do they roll back the odo or disconnect it? What if you drove it 500 miles?

My Ford had 12 miles on it when I took delivery, 9 of them by me. My previous two new cars were dealer trades and the milage matched the point of origin. I'd be really upset if a new car I bought had been loaned out.

Or am I misunderstanding what you said?

OF...first one we drove was a service loaner. Not sure how many miles Acura allows on loaners. I think every company is different. BMW is probably the most liberal I've ever dealt with....they always had a fleet of service loaners and always had plenty of them for sale...all different models.

The TLX V6 FWD I drove while waiting on the PDI on my '18 I only had for a few miles on it. I don't think I put more than 25 on it the few hours I had it. I'll assume it was a service loaner, too. It did not have an MSRP sticker on it, but it was obviously new.

My '18 had less than 10 miles on it when I bought it (5 of those were my test drive), still had the wrapping on the hood, trunk, top and seats. After the PDI, I think it had 13 miles, probably to take it to the gas station to fill it up and the do the PDI.

Last night, I downloaded the new IOS 11.0 for the iPhone.  No problems with the new operating system yet but I do like the expanded capabilities of Siri.  There are some nice tweaks to existing Apps as well as improvements in keyboard, expansion of screen inclusions and peripherals.

No doubt there will be an update shortly to “resolve” expected issues with any new operating system.

A couple weeks ago I relayed the story of one of my instructors who lives in Orlando and the prep and aftermath of Irma.

Yesterday, as I sat down for lunch, I get a text message from another one of my instructors who lives in Mexico City, telling me about the earthquake there.

Oh oh, don't these things happen in 3s?

Better stay in bed for a few days.

Actually, I can't imagine how awful it must be to live through these disasters. If we haven't had to do it we are extremely fortunate.

I think it was called Tricoat yellow. It was a $500 option. I liked it in person but must have been the only one. A car like that sat for almost 3 years on a local lot.

Wasn't sure which one I really wanted, but when I tried to get out of the Camaro, I had to kind of crawl out, because of how it sits.

You really like to choose a vehicle from an extremely wide spectrum....from comparing a Camaro, and a Tundra, to a Silverado. But, you found what makes you happy and that is all that matters. At least testing the Camaro helped you to know what you didn't want....a low sporty type of car.

Technically, most of these are garage queens, as they will never see anything near their potential. I think debadging is more of a thing in Europe, where people want to disguise a base model. Not that it doesn't exist here, but it must be rarer. I think downbadging would be better - make an M3 a 320i, an M5 a 528i, etc,
Well, I suppose there is that element. However, aren't those the garage queens that never get driven like they are meant to be? Then you have the people that de-badge completely, so you don't know if you might be up against a huge V8 or a puny 4-banger at that stoplight.
And up-badging is certainly the worst! Anyone that knows what an RS 4 should look like isn't going to be fooled by your A4 with an RS badge; Especially if you left the 2.0T on the back! :disappointed: Contrasting Colored Side blades on a TT to make it look even more like an R8??? Okay, goals and aspirations

Been going back and forth on whether to get a new phone. My work phone is an Adroid (Samsung 5). Not bad, but slow and glitchy. My personal phone is an iPhone 5s. Downloaded iOS 11 and it’s noticeably slower (although Siri has a nice new female voice), but it’s never been “glitchy”. Battery is showing some signs of losing some of its original capacity, though.

My local Best Buy had an IPhone 8 already to show. It wasn’t for sale but for demonstration purposes only. Pretty big upgrade from my 4 year old 5s.

But, those new Samsung S8s are really nice in their own right. Probably shouldn’t let the past experience with Android influence my future views of them.

Gating factor.....jeez-Louise....when did these already expensive phones get even more expensive?

IPhone 8 is $700......the S8 is even more expensive, $760. What happened to the $450 phones?

Looks like my frugality with phones never extended to my car buying habits.

iPhone hysteria has subsided. Best Buy said they’ll have plenty to sell tomorrow. Just walk in. They already had the Galaxy.

Might bite the bullet and get a new phone. I’m surprised I haven’t cracked the glass on either of my phones, work or personal. I’m not exactly gentle with them, throwing them in my briefcase, yanking them out. Dropping them untold amounts of times. They both look a little worn, nicked here and there, but intact and operable. Shows the durability of these gadgets.

I suppose it depends on how patient I am with a slow and/or glitchy phone.

iPhone X will be over a grand, Note 8 is over $900. $450 phones went the way of $250K houses in Seattle, something from another generation.

That being said, there are numerous phones under $500 that should be more than adequate for most users. They aren't the latest tech, but a lot of advancements these days are incremental at best.

I remember when I was a kid, I had a book that featured a 60s Rambler rebadged into a MB.

The wrong brand badges are pretty bad, I think I have seen a BMW AMG too. The fake badges are also something, lots of fake M and AMG badges out there, I suspect some of them might even be dealer-installed, as the drivers seem oblivious to their meaning.

Stick...talking to the Best Buy phone person (who seemed more knowledgeable than me), it was mentioned that the biggest battery hog for any phone are the location apps. I use my iPhone or Google maps in my rental cars all the time.

Nice saleslady said after a while, even the lithium ion batteries begin to deteriorate. She also said the batteries in the new iPhones have greater capacity. So, doing a little research and she's right.

Without Apple Care, replacing the battery is $70. That beats $700. The question is, how much more use can I get from a 4 year old iPhone?

Where they get me, those new phones sure are pretty...all shiny and new, no dents, nice screens with pretty pictures on them.... :stuck_out_tongue:

4 years and 3 generations behind, at that point bite the bullet and go new.

I turn off all the background location services. That is the killer. Set so only on when app is actually up and running. And in the car, will likely be plugged in.

My phone is an iPhone 5 I got about 18 months before I retired. They let me take it with me when I left. I don't use it all that much and it does most of what I want it to do, but it is 5 years old now. iOS11 will probably make it exceedingly slow from what I read.

I think I will wait for the dust to settle and then look for an upgrade. I am going to stick with the iPhone most likely. I see the iPhone 8 has been getting middling reviews and people are wondering if the X is going to sell, so I suspect prices will be volatile. I was thinking a while ago of getting the SE but will see how things shake out over the next few months. I'm sure there will be deals on something.

Battery life on my 6 is really good. It's not the shiny new aspect for me, it's the improved camera and better functions. I take most of my pics now with my phone because I always have it with me. My spouse has the 7. I didn't see a huge difference between those 2. I'm probably a year or two away from replacing mine.
The 4 and 5 versions are going to be impossible to update which is a security concern. I have a son who travels a lot. He has a battered 4 he takes on trips because if anything happened to it, no big deal.

I hear ya. I'm very surprised to find myself in a truck now, but damn I'm enjoying it. I might have a hard time going back to a car. Even my wife's van feels uncomfortable now in comparison.

    2003-2007 there 10,000 each made.
They were made in 2wd and AWD.
The only thing I could find that was an option was the sun/moon roof, which mine has.
Looks like most everything else that was considered upgrade, Bose system, heated seats, etc., were listed as standard.
At least according to the info I found.
The one thing I did have to do was install a Pioneer navigation stereo, that kept, the Bose system, On star and XM radio.
While I don't consider them rare, the aren't the run of the mill vehicle.
I think that's why it appealed to me.

@graphicguy - kudos to you for still have the iPhone 5. I thought I was doing well to still have a 6 (while the rest of my family has had the 7 for almost a year and are already eyeing the new ones coming out).

Like @stickguy said, a 7 may be the best buy - I just read an article that said the iPhone 8 really should have simply been a "7s" considering the relatively low level of upgrades/changes. I think you get a faster processor, a somewhat improved camera, and the glass back that allows for inductive charging.

Since I try to hold out at least 2 years between phones (except for the one I left on top of my car before my morning commute and never found - but that's another story :) ), I'll probably hold out a few months for the iPhone X. All the talk of the $999 base price, but my wife's and stepdaughter's iPhone 7 Plus with 256 gb memory were $980 I believe. Not that the price is okay, but it's not necessarily groundbreaking.

I've got both a 7 (personal) and an SE (work). The 7 is "leased" through Sprint, so I'm in no position to upgrade any time soon. Wife also has a 7 (got them at the same time), but she complains about hers frequently - battery life, delay in receiving text messages, etc. - and wants to get a new one. I fear that would be an expensive proposition in the middle of the lease, but once the 8 and X are released, I hope the prices on the 7 come down accordingly.

My wife and I found a lodge to live in on beautiful Lake Chelan! It's an eight month lease. Way up on a hill with a million dollar view of the lake. I started orientation at my job in Wenatchee on Monday. Good ta be back on here, guys!

What is that stuff? Looks too coarse to be pollen.

And here is our newest color for 2018, pollen yellow.
Actually it looks like Heinz old style mustard yellow.
I think it was called Tricoat yellow. It was a $500 option. I liked it in person but must have been the only one. A car like that sat for almost 3 years on a local lot.

My local Ford dealer has a yellow GT- and even though I bought the 2er they are STILL hot to sell it to me. I actually kind of like it, but by the time I add $4,110 worth of necessary Ford Racing parts(Power Pack 2, Track Handling Pack, and cat-back Sport exhaust) I'm getting close to M2 money...

4 years and 3 generations behind, at that point bite the bullet and go new.

I turn off all the background location services. That is the killer. Set so only on when app is actually up and running. And in the car, will likely be plugged in.

Also, having the phone look for new emails every 10-15 minutes takes up a lot of battery life. I don't need to know new emails immediately, so I check manually every 5-6 hours and my battery life on my 5s really improved.
