That happened to us many many years ago with a Plymouth (remember them) minivan. Stopped dead crossing a train track. Five years old. We had just had the car serviced. Neither Chrysler nor the dealership would admit to any problem. Turns out they knew their belts were wearing prematurely and had a silent dealer notice to replace them. End of buying Chrysler vehicles for me.

Did that Plymouth minivan come equipped with a Mitsubishi engine as many of them did?
There must be some connection between Chrysler and Mitsu. I remember my older brother bought a Chrysler Co. Lancer back in the early 1960s.

I want to make sure I understood...a serpentine belt breaks at a whopping 130,000 miles and that is "premature" failure? I usually change mine around 75,000 miles just "because". Guess I'll keep doing that!

That's what I was thinking; I replaced the belts on the Club Sport at 6 years/62k miles and 22 years/145k miles. I do think that the first change was at least 10k miles premature, but I was tracking the car quite a bit and didn't want to take any chances.

There was. They shared many things. A version of the Sebring coupe had a mitsu engine. There was also the Dodge Colt that was a rebadged...some kinda crappy low-end mitsu I can't remember the name of. Not sure what mitsu got from chryco, if anything other than money for parts.

"I call up the Sales Manager from Mt Kisco Honda, about 1/2 hour away from me in Westchester County, NY"

That's my old stomping grounds. Before I moved to Vermont I lived in Katonah, NY, the next town north. I think that my immediate family bought at least 6 Hondas from them. At one time: we did (Prelude), and my mother (Accord), and my grandmother (Accord. Which was a shock 'cause she was a Buick lady most of her life), and my sister (Civic), etc. We were in the running for one of those "family" ads back in the day (mid-80's) when they were a tiny dealership.

Well, our '86 2.6 litre 4 cylinder was definitely a Mitsu engine, and it served us quite well, other than the freeze plug replacement I had to do, mostly because I bought a dealer courtesy vehicle that had clearly sat for some time with low coolant. No telling what the real story was.

Either way, the engine was okay, barring the carb crap that was going on back in those days, prior to fuel injection for everything.

My 97' Chrysler had the Mitsu 2.5L and it was a very smooth engine. Same engine family that was in my 08' Eclipse.

Mitsu provided motors for a number of Chryslers until Dialmier ended the relationship. They even built a big factory in Normal IL for joint production.

When I bought my '15 Genny at a dealer in Fairfax VA, while Mrs. j and I were in the F&I office, Son #1 got to talking with our salesman while the Genny was being readied for delivery. The salesman mentioned that he was a little surprised I had driven to VA to get the car since he knew there was a VERY large Hyundai dealer right in the town where we lived. My Son told him the story about that dealer not supporting me when Mrs. j's '05 XG350 engine blew up with around 43K miles on it. His jaw dropped and of course he said they would never have treated a customer of theirs like that (I wouldn't have expected him to say otherwise). Anyway, he said the engine in that XG350 was a Mitsubishi engine (3.5L) and they never had problems with that engine and he thought they were pretty good since he drove many of them back then. I also thought it was a nice engine and never had a problem with it either until it just blew up one day while Mrs. j was slowing down for a red light. He went on to say that was the last year Hyundai used any engines from other car companies because that was about the time they were starting to take pride in their own products.

I never heard or confirmed that story about Mitsubishi engines once being used in Hyundai cars back then but I can't say that it would be impossible either.

    I guess I found the oddball Mitsu engine. :@ :@ :@

I seem to recall that the Hyundai Pony that they introduced in Canada as their first car sold here in the early to mid 1980s was largely a Mitsubishi design including the engine.

Hyundai did use Mitsu engines in the early years....hard to find some solid data though.

That rate doesn't sound bad for the S coupe. I pay about $1500/year for the E250, and it's not nearly as insane as FL here, although plenty of incompetence on the road in other forms.

As you know, I switched my car insurance to the little reptilian company on 11/30/18.  Well, I went back to the statue company today because they ended up $200 a year less.  Also took out a $1 million umbrella.  But my auto insurance is $2280 a year which is a lot.  My brother’s is $1500 for his S Coupe.  Insurance down here is exhorbitant because of Florida’s “no fault” law.  I have to carry PIP (personal injury protection) which is over $300 a year in addition to my other coverages.  That is robbery.  And the PIP has a $1000 deductible.

They have been trying to repeal the no fault clause but the lawyers and chiropractors and rehab lobbyists control this issue.  Pathetic!

I only wish I had been able to get a picture. We were behind a Honda Accord yesterday. They had obviously just bought their Christmas tree. Of course, what made it unique was the base of the tree sticking out the open left rear window and the tree top sticking out of the right rear window. Sort of looked like the car had been harpooned by a deranged elf :)

Just got an email from Comcast/Xfinity regarding my internet connection. It seems that they increased the speed to 100 mbs at no additional cost. Had to disconnect the modem/router and restart it in order for the higher speed service to begin. There is no doubt that the increase in speed is nice to have. Even my phone on WiFi is twice as fast. Nice feature.

Found this small silver racecar for sale in the Seattle area with only 32,102 miles on it. Selling for $8,999. Recent $4,000 price reduction and yes, it is a 5-speed. I'm going to be following this one like a hawk because it's right in my sweet spot. That's low miles, really, in the scheme of things. Looks fairly clean - one owner - accident free history.

Got a renewal notice for 2 of my Sirius radios. Combined renewal price was over $370 for a year.
Called to cancel, too expensive, but would prefer to continue my subscriptions.
They offered $99 plus taxes and royalties. I said I saw $60 for a year on their website, so they said, ok you can have that deal. Took less than 10 minutes to get both switched.

There must be some connection between Chrysler and Mitsu. I remember my older brother bought a Chrysler Co. Lancer back in the early 1960s.

There was. They shared many things. A version of the Sebring coupe had a mitsu engine. There was also the Dodge Colt that was a rebadged...some kinda crappy low-end mitsu I can't remember the name of. Not sure what mitsu got from chryco, if anything other than money for parts.
Now I also remember those two twin sportcars, 90s?, one mitsu and one Chryco. I remember they always looked very wide to my eye. Can't remember the names though. EDIT- Dodge Stealth and Mitsu GT 3000. Google is my friend.

Hint, next time use Google first. That way you'll save edit time and space in here.

Yeh, like all of a sudden he is concerned with saving space!

I bet his posts would be a lot shorter if we charged him 10 cents a letter.

That may have concerned me in the olden days but not anymore since I signed up for Edmunds premium "no word limit package". :p

Sounds good for both parties. They will do the T-Belt and other stuff and have a nice used Pilot to sell and you will have a new one to drive around in. Is it me or did they downsize those new Pilots? I had one alongside me the other day and it just looked smaller for some reason. Maybe it was just me?

It is bigger. Longer and Wider.

Really?? i saw another one today and I thought the same thing....strange!

    You mean you're getting smaller?

    Yeah, that's probably it!

Yesterday I picked up my wife at Sarasota Airport. On the way home I had to take University Avenue and then go on I-75 North. I experienced driving through a Diverging Diamond Interchange......you actually switch over and drive on the left side of the road. As if driving isn't crazy enough around here, wait until you try one of these (watch up to 3/33 at least)

Speaking of the Chrysler/Mitsubishi vehicles, they also had the Starion/Conquest that I lusted after in the 80’s, which led to the Eclipse/Talon/Laser.

I still like the Starion/Conquest.   Drove one around 1996 or so.  Fun car.

Those are quite cool, but still pretty scarce in the US. Anything to prevent accidents and keep traffic flowing is a good thing in my book.

We have 1 here in the Dayton area. And I recall driving through a related type of crossover on the west side of Columbus last summer in a high traffic area that crossed over I-270.

@driver100 - if they built one of those here they probably wouldn't include the traffic signals for the crossover parts just to tie things up further, or replace them with roundabouts which are their current favorite toy and which seem to confuse people most of the time. The traffic engineers here seem to believe their job is to make traffic worse. Most everything they do here now is making fewer and smaller traffic lanes to slow down vehicles and make space for bike lanes that are apparently used by invisible cyclists. It is just nuts.

That looks similar to a SPUI that we have near me. Quite an adventure if you are unfamiliar with them.

I despise roundabouts and now THIS? Roundabouts work IF people use them properly and around here that isn't the case! I'll go out of my way to avoid one. Now, THIS??
