Well, I'm just going to post something from an ABC News article in 2009 about the Toyota coverup and the Saylor case because it's essential to note that it wasn't just the ghastly pedals getting stuck on the wrongly-sized floor mats, it was also a faulty gas pedal that was staying depressed and not springing back when one's foot was let off of it. Toyota knew about both problems going on and tried to hide them from the public. Evil, really, huh?

    http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/toyota-pay-12b-hiding-deadly-unintended-acceleration/story?id=22972214

“The disregard Toyota had for the safety of the public is outrageous,” Venizelos said. “Not only did Toyota fail to recall cars with problem parts, they continued to manufacture new cars with the same parts they already knew were deadly. When media reports arose of Toyota hiding defects, they emphatically denied what they knew was true, assuring consumers that their cars were safe and reliable… More than speeding cars or a major fine, the ultimate tragedy has been the unwitting consumers who died behind the wheel of Toyota vehicles.”

Toyota “put sales over safety and profit over principle,” according to FBI Assistant Director George Venizelos.

Toyota had to pay a $1.2B fine to avoid prosecution for this coverup. Imagine the fines they'd be paying out if they were actually prosecuted for all the cases brought up?

Totally unrelated but my wife thinks "Jan" in the Toyota commercials is pregnant.
How can Jan be pregnant, she is as skinny as can be?

Toyota 2019 RAV4 interior. Very expressive...and youth oriented.

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,431
I see more of a middle aged vibe in the RAV4, maybe wanting to be young, but not convincing to me. Nice to see Toyota has evolved past the faux floating C-pillar onto the backwards hat roofline (a la Mini Cooper Coupe). Interesting trucky snout on it, still overstyled but not the traditional big mouth bass.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,389
I kinda like the looks of that RAV4. Need to see the interior and how it drives too of course. And wonder what drivetrain they are putting in?

Maybe I should just watch the video!

Farmer, might be an older ad. A year or 2 ago she was pregnant (and they referred to it in ads at the time). Last new one I saw she was skinny again.

No, she definitely is pregnant according to the new Camry ad I saw this week, unless she either put on a lot of weight around the middle and has taken to wearing shapeless dresses. I now call her "Expecting Jan" to differentiate from the skinny Jan we all know and love. She's still perkier than a 1950s coffee machine though. ;)

Should have the prod model RDX release today too. Really want to see that.

But I am shocked by how much I like the new RAV! Could beat out the CRV for a more budget friendly option.

More here on the new Cadillac XT4 CUV.

    http://www.autonews.com/article/20180327/OEM04/180329668/cadillac-targets-next-generation-of-luxury-car-buyers-with-xt4

Interior looks good and reminds me of Toyota/Lexus somewhat. Too bad it has that goofy electronic shifter though. I do wonder if it has enough power. They have taken the VW approach of reducing HP numbers in the turbo 4 in order to give a fat torque curve that peaks at very low RPM.

You have to look at more than just the peak horsepower and torque numbers; that kit bumps the torque curve up considerably just off idle. Although it's apples and oranges, most of the BMW N55 tunes do the same thing, modest peak gains but substantial off idle and midrange power.

One of my kids called(oh oh) about 10 days ago and needed to speak with me.
Turns our she filled her Escape with E-85 by mistake.
Realized it when the 'Check Engine' light went on after about 40 miles.
To her credit, she did some research and the answer was to put some PUG in every couple of gallons used.
I looked it up in the manual for one of my cars, and it said to bring it in if the engine was knocking(due to check engine light being on).
To her credit, she also called the dealer(Wow!) and they said to just keep adding normal fuel and the light would go out eventually.
She's in the Midwest, so probably not unheard of.
She texted today(ok everything back to normal) that the light went out.
    Big relief for me.

Can someone tell me exactly what F-85 is? Never heard of hit but I did have a buddy with an F-85 Olds!

Just got an email from a company that wants to “brighten up my late night bathroom visits!”  It’s a special toilet seat that has fluorescent lighting throughout.  Their ad states:

    • 13 beautiful colors light up your toilets
    •
    • Built-in air freshener leaves bathroom smelling great
    • Fits EVERY toilet – works in seconds

Now that’s exactly what’s missing in my life - Glowing Toilets.  B):o

P.S.  “Fits every toilet”, but does it fit every derrière?
