Wow! this picture looks so beautiful on my Samsung tablet compared to my laptop or desktop.
It seems as though that picture was taken a couple weeks ago because my backyard in Boston is almost bare. And since you are at a higher latitude I would expect your peak foliage color would be long gone.
Foliage is sticking longer this year for some reason. Took that picture about 15 minutes before I posted it. Those are Norway Maples if anyone cares. A naturalized species from Europe IIRC.

It’s been awhile since Snake chimed in about the car in the pond. I hope he didn’t discover that the car in the water was his.
what I have found out is it was a man that has been missing since October 20th. The police are still investigating this. How it got into the pond and how it was discovered I still don't know.
That’s sad. We’ve been having a lot of Amber Alerts around me for old people going missing. Sometimes it’s folks with dementia but sometime it turns out to be suicides.

Oldfarmer....here is something to think about. Your strategy of buying cheap but getting more miles out of a car is a good one. I liked your formula, something like 10k miles for every $1000 spent.
Here is the question. How will you get cheap hoopties in the future when cars have so much electronics on them and as cars get more complexed only certified technicians can work on them. And as parts get more complex like $700 headlights it may be harder to do. When my 2015 E got destroyed they told me the whole headlight alone was worth $5000.
Will cars become like TVs and when you need a new one it will be cheaper to buy one than to repair the broken one? Especially if we really start using electric cars that only have a few moving parts.
I’ve thought about that myself. I guess I’ll just have to park them on the side of the road and run away if something expensive breaks on the drivetrain. For something non critical like a back up camera I’d just drive without it.
I could also just go into a time warp and continue to buy cars from the 90s and early 2000s. That will get tougher and tougher as they become true antiques but hopefully by then my driving days will be over.

Hope everything‘s been going well with everybody in here, this is one form I haven’t been in here in months since sometime in the summer time. What has been going well, still working at my same old job there’s a good chance they might not close up, who knows we shall see hoping and praying for the best. Delete off people in June and July but thank God I’m still there. Still jobhunting and living life to the full list. I know the time I come back in here will be a few more pages of postings so anyone who replies probably probably will never get to read your posting will be married in here in the pages and pages of posting. So thank you in advance, if anyone would like to contact me off here please feel free find me on Facebook it’s my name, and you’ll see the picture of my 61 Thunderbird, can talk off here on Facebook messenger just send me a message there too as well if you’re interested. The car is still not on the road. Missing very missing a very important part of the registration, went to the DM V a bit over two weeks ago, so have my brother contacting the prior owner hopefully work with me, or Plan B‘s gonna be register the car I don’t office of the DMVE in upstate New York, because my brother told me he was able to register his old truck up there with the old registration sticker and not the part that the prior owner was supposed to sign without a problem, show me south see right now the cars useless can can’t be driven by anyone or even sold if I wanted to ha ha. Hopefully resolve this mess when you go up there around Thanksgiving time. Other than that like I said living enjoying life to the full us all. Contact me off here hope all is been going well with everybody have a great night, and upcoming weekend all. Sorry for the long long post wanted to give everybody an update sort of. Ha ha
NY DMV is like a torture chamber. I don’t know if upstate will be any better. They once screwed up a deal I was doing to by a Florida titled car from the widow of the owner. Basically they wanted her to spend $10,000 in legal fees to sell a $5,000 car. They almost force you to do something dishonest.
I understand some people register missing title cars in Vermont, a non-title state, and then try to do a change of address registration into NY. Not sure how it works but the bureaucracy makes it necessary to get creative.

When my sister passed away, her daughter took her car home until it could get through the estate stuff. which took forever, and was going to cost money, and another forever. One day, it was sold, pretty sure the old sign someone elses name to the title, and away it goes. Happens all the time. DMV has no clue who's signature it is.
A Florida friend/neighbor bought a new Honda Odyssey. He lives most of the year in Ohio but his wife loved this one they looked at in Florida. He said doing the paperwork was horrendous, had to have his son back in Ohio get paperwork and signatures and then courier them back and forth...took a few weeks. Said, he would never do that again.

Stick....did it squeak through because the person who supposedly signed was no longer alive?

yes, the picture was gorgeous. Can you take another one with some bright reds....those are the best...maybe with some yellow and orange in the background.
I love the leaves when they change color, but, not enough to risk being up there when it gets cold and could snow.
Yesterday, I thought all the ballots were counted and we had a new governor and a new senator. But then, last night, Broward County (where I live) continued counting ballots. Our supervisor of elections here is famous for losing ballots and destroying ballots well before she legally was allowed.
As of this minute, no one knows how many ballots remain uncounted. Ballots keep piling in. I guess we are once again in a situation where Broward and Palm Beach Counties have gone rogue. It could take 3-8 weeks before we know who won the governor and senator seats here in Florida.

The red and orange are sugar maples and I’m afraid they’ve gone by already.
I was really glad to be transporting cars through the Adirondacks this fall. Some of the most brilliant reds, yellows and oranges you could imagine all contrasted against the evergreens which were all but invisible a month earlier.
Speaking of driving north, we took a fleet of Subarus to Burlington this afternoon. Kind of a treat since I don’t think Subbie sells to rental companies (like Honda). These were all low mile auction bought.
I was driving an 18’ Crosstreck. I was impressed with the roominess and a really jazzy two color black/silver interior which went with the orange exterior. Great visibility and great gas mileage (42 mpg). The (I’m guessing 4cyl.) engine could have used a few more horsepower. The only negative was that the car had a tendency to wander in the lane a trait that was displayed by another Crosstrek my buddy was driving.
I finally found a use for the adaptive cruise control on the Vermont country roads. I set the speed at the open road limit and when I came up behind a slower car it slowed me to a matching speed and kept a safe distance. Even as we passed through lower speed hamlets the cruise matched the speed of the car in front of me and then resumed a higher speed as we continued down the road. Pretty neat.

Why can't they just have a do-over. It might not be cheaper but it certainly would be fairer and more transparent.

This isn’t a Pickleball game with friends, bwia, but rather a continuing problem in Broward County with the supervisor of elections - her name is Snipes. For the past 4 major elections, odd and strange things happen in the counting of ballots. It should not take 4 days to count ballots unless ballots continue to arrive at the county elections office, which is what’s happening. This is election results alterations - stealing elections.
Personally, I am not terribly concerned about the results in a fair election here in Florida as either candidate(s) would suit me. But when this kind of stuff happens every election in Broward County, it begins to smell like rotting fish at the beach.

Nice little review and the Subie sounds like a fun little car to drive....I like that orange color, if I can't see orange leaves I at least saw an orange Subie.

My brother got a new CPO X5. He wrote me an email asking if I have ever had my GPS updated. This is what he said: . I took the X5 in for service this week and asked about updates because there were a number of times on our trip where the maps were out of date. They told me it would be $400+ to get the updates. We have a Garmin GPS with lifetime updates that we paid about $250 and I think it had better functionality and a better user interface. It's nice to have the system integrated and I like the directions appearing on the heads up display, but that's a huge price to pay for what you get. I was reading about buying the code and maps online. Looks like its about $50 to $100 to get the code and download the data.
I have never had the urge to get an updated, most things don't change that much. What a scam.

Those cars go to our rental office near the airport. The agent was very glad to see them as Subaru is the unofficial state car of Vermont and all the man bun hipsters will be fighting over them.
The adaptive cruise was useful on the back roads but on the interstate it was a royal pain.
One other thing, while I was waiting for the chase vehicle, a customer returned a black Nissan Altima and was raving about what a wonderful car it was.

I have to admit that I never heard someone liked adaptive cruise better on back roads than on the highway. Actually, I only use it when I'm on a multi-lane highway. You can adjust how far or close you want to be from the car in front of you.
That orange CrossTrek has Eyesight. Someone renting it will probably be finished with their rental before discovering most of the features.

This was definitely the case for the older ones, like my previous 2012 328. I had an original navigation five years later. You can buy updates for it now for much less than the dealers think you should pay, as long as you're handy with flash updates through USB, you'd be fine.
The new 2018 GC I have now seems to self-update over the air once in a while as a part of 4-year subscription. At least that's what it says when the screen messages self update is ready to load, if I want to restart the navigation. What's funny is that the service salesman aka advisor told me that the update is paid just like on the old one, so I'm not sure what to believe and how comprehensive the automatic update really is. When I go to the system it has some Southeast region tags, so who know what would happen if I decided to go on a cross-country road trip. Perhaps the guy was just misinformed, going with what is still the case for the older model years. I don't know what will happen if I refuse to pay the renewal after 4-year period. I suppose the map will freeze then and I'd lose the traffic info.

This sounds like the game where they find extra ballots that were accidentally overlooked in a Detroit precinct and ended up with more votes than registered voters in the precinct. Of course, vote count was heavily biased in one political direction.
Was taking my son to pick up his car and a utility company boom truck stopped in front of me and then reversed into my grill. I’ll need a new bumper, radiator support, radiator and maybe a fender. Hood has a scuff but maybe that’ll buff.

Actually I feel your pain. There's a big fire up in Butte County (near Chico, CA) and the smoke is drifting right over Sonoma, even though we are a good 150 miles away. Usually the winds blow west-to-east in CA, but not always!

Regardless of which car was hit, it still sucks. Didn’t you say you were looking for a reason to move on from the PT?
I see a lot of those crostreks around. I really think they are sharp looking. and a good size. I have heard they are a bit underpowered though.
They’ve got good headroom and I was impressed by the handling dynamics.
Whenever I see one I think they look somewhat insect-like, not sure why.
They offer them in some different colors at least, like the solid orange, bright non-metallic blue, and sort of a battleship non-metallic grey I don't care for.

Who's insurance is paying? Why be concerned about buffing out a mark if insurance is covering it? Are the repairs going to cost more than the value of the car? It looks like a fairly costly job since it affects so many parts.

Yes, for a PT Cruiser, it wouldn't surprise me if they call this one a total. Sad, really. Of course, that doesn't mean you cannot do the buyout and fix it anyway.

I saw a whole fleet of GM trucks that were draped in TFC (test fleet camo) around town yesterday. Several of them were work trucks (flat beds) with large loads on them and the logo of a local business draped over the camo on the doors. It seems a little warm to be doing cold weather testing (probably average of 10-15F right now), but, hey, at least they test them!
I also saw a 1/2 ton Duramax unit in that fleet. I would so love to have a 1/2 ton diesel pickup.

I'm not a big fan of my F150's ACC on a multi lane highway. When approaching a vehicle ahead, it slows very gradually. I usually don't notice I'm going 60 instead of 70 for a few minutes. On a single lane road, I think I would like it better.

That is irritating alright. At least you were there when it happened as opposed to when a jacked-up pickup hit the right front fender on Mrs. j's Subie a year or two back in a kids hockey arena parking lot and just took off.
As for the buffing, just tell the buffer guy to lean on the buffer a little harder for all of the heavily damaged areas and they might buff out too.

Definitely going to be the utility company paying since I dropped collision on that car years ago. Also, the driver of the truck admitted to the cop that he was at fault. Diminished value is moot since the car is not worth much. Totaling is a concern but I think they’ll pay what it costs based on previous experience. I think a deep pockets company like this just wants the claim out of the way before injuries real or imagined crop up.
My big concern is what this will do to my own insurance. Insurance companies sometimes jack up your rates no matter what the fault (which was zero on my part). When I applied for my transporter job they wanted an explanation of an accident on my record that got slapped on when some clown hit my stopped school bus from behind three years prior. NY DMV doesn’t list fault or any exculpatory information on your record which infuriates me.
I wonder if I could get a reading on that from my own company and request the utility company pay for any increase. Would that be possible? Comments from the lawyers real or imagined, please.

Yes, for a PT Cruiser, it wouldn't surprise me if they call this one a total. Sad, really. Of course, that doesn't mean you cannot do the buyout and fix it anyway.
Our ex employee had a 2004 I think it was Honda Civic that got hit in the rear. They wrote it off and gave him $4000 - this was about 3 years ago. He was starting up his own business and he leased a new Honda Fit with the money....it was actually a good thing as the old Civic would have started costing him big money in repairs + it didn't have air conditioning which he is really enjoying.
I can't see how anyone could deal with it, given the Stalingrad-1943 pavement quality in so many areas. I'll never complain about Seattle area roads again (OK, I will after 10 minutes back home).
Maybe the best solution is to disqualify FL votes from the next few elections, until they can join the developed world. Georgia the state 2018 is becoming what one would expect of Georgia the country in 1998, too.
This sounds like the game where they find extra ballots that were accidentally overlooked in a Detroit precinct and ended up with more votes than registered voters in the precinct. Of course, vote count was heavily biased in one political direction.

If they offer me $4k I’d take it in a heartbeat.

That’s sad. We’ve been having a lot of Amber Alerts around me for old people going missing. Sometimes it’s folks with dementia but sometime it turns out to be suicides.

I could also just go into a time warp and continue to buy cars from the 90s and early 2000s. That will get tougher and tougher as they become true antiques but hopefully by then my driving days will be over.

I understand some people register missing title cars in Vermont, a non-title state, and then try to do a change of address registration into NY. Not sure how it works but the bureaucracy makes it necessary to get creative.

I love the leaves when they change color, but, not enough to risk being up there when it gets cold and could snow.

As of this minute, no one knows how many ballots remain uncounted. Ballots keep piling in. I guess we are once again in a situation where Broward and Palm Beach Counties have gone rogue. It could take 3-8 weeks before we know who won the governor and senator seats here in Florida.

Personally, I am not terribly concerned about the results in a fair election here in Florida as either candidate(s) would suit me. But when this kind of stuff happens every election in Broward County, it begins to smell like rotting fish at the beach.

So, where do these low mileage Subies go to and where did they come from?
I like your description of the adaptive cruise control, sounds like a great feature to have.

The adaptive cruise was useful on the back roads but on the interstate it was a royal pain.
One other thing, while I was waiting for the chase vehicle, a customer returned a black Nissan Altima and was raving about what a wonderful car it was.
Maybe Jmonroe is on to something.

That orange CrossTrek has Eyesight. Someone renting it will probably be finished with their rental before discovering most of the features.

Was taking my son to pick up his car and a utility company boom truck stopped in front of me and then reversed into my grill. I’ll need a new bumper, radiator support, radiator and maybe a fender. Hood has a scuff but maybe that’ll buff.
The only bright spot was that I was originally going to take the Mustang and if this guy had busted Baby I’d be in jail for murder. :@

Actually I feel your pain. There's a big fire up in Butte County (near Chico, CA) and the smoke is drifting right over Sonoma, even though we are a good 150 miles away. Usually the winds blow west-to-east in CA, but not always!
Kind of unusual for all these new CA fires this time of year isn't it?

They offer them in some different colors at least, like the solid orange, bright non-metallic blue, and sort of a battleship non-metallic grey I don't care for.

I also saw a 1/2 ton Duramax unit in that fleet. I would so love to have a 1/2 ton diesel pickup.
On a single lane road, I think I would like it better.

The only thing I notice is that it's parked next to a white Fusion.
As for the buffing, just tell the buffer guy to lean on the buffer a little harder for all of the heavily damaged areas and they might buff out too.
