This is brutal.   How can these large companies not have a service/support system?

Did you try Sear’s service.   I know that sounds crazy but they actually have a huge parts network and many of the Kenmore fridges are LG (mine is).

So what is the Thanksgiving plan?  Reservations?

For a little levity... to my Italian friends.   Here is a clip from the Sopranos explaining Thanksgiving dinner.  I’m making my soup with the Escarole and meatballs tonight and mom is making the gravy for the pasta tomorrow.

What a game. Rams outlast Chiefs in high-octane ‘Monday Night Football’ showdown. Rams 54, Chiefs 51

(Associated Press) LOS ANGELES — Even before the fourth lead change of the fourth quarter, well before the 1,001st yard of combined offense was tallied, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams already knew this was a classic.
Two powerhouse NFL teams at the peak of their brilliance dueled deep into the night at an ecstatic Coliseum, racking up eye-popping numbers that stretched the box score and credulity.

There were 14 touchdowns, including three by defensive players. There were 56 first downs. There were 105 points, with 50 from each team — the first time that’s ever happened in an NFL game.

Patrick Mahomes passed for a career-high 478 yards with six touchdown passes in his latest jaw-dropping effort for the Chiefs (9-2), but he also threw two interceptions in the final 1:18 as the Rams (10-1) claimed the highest-scoring Monday night game ever played.

I stayed up way too late watching that, just to see what happened. Short of the record 113 points though.

@oldfarmer50 ...I pulled the fridge out of it’s cabinet area to look at the back. I looked underneath (as best as I could in limited space). IF there’s a fan in either place that’s blocked, I didn’t see it. I can hear a fan running, if that matters.

I know that Kenmore rebadged a lot of LG fridges (including the model I have).

Put a cooking thermometer in the refrigerator last night. Took it out this a.m., and it said 77º. That’s not good.

Front panel shows no faults and reads the (waaayyyy) wrong temps. So, it’s not the control board.

Puts me in the mood to go buy a car just to ease the frustration..... :)

I don't really notice the daylight thing too much. It is usually most noticeable to me in the late winter (February and March), when the light is getting strong enough that we feel heat from it again. Also, during the summer, I find that I might be out until 11pm or later working on things and have no idea that it is so late.
When I was up there I really noticed the light issue in the winter when the only time I saw daylight was if I went outside for lunch and in the summer when I only saw sunlight, unless I had the midnight watch.

@tjc78 ....Boy, does that bring back memories when we were kids. That menu wasn’t too far from the truth, either.

Loved the show, BTW! I own the box set of all of them!

Not sure about Sears service around here. They all closed up their brick and mortar stores. Plus, Sears is not listed as an authorized repair facility with LG. Go figure!

It was fun to watch. Highlight for me was each team stripping the ball from the QB at around the 5-10-yd line and running it in for a TD. Crazy game.

I think I’ll be getting their attention shortly. I charged it on my Visa to get an additional year of warranty. On a lark, I called their customer service people to see if they could help. They said they wouldn’t have any other access to service companies than I have.

But, they went ahead and put a “contested charge” for the entire purchase price. Someone, somewhere will notice that.

Sorry for what you're going through with all this. I wonder who Lowes has to do service work when they have an extended warranty on LG/Samsung.

I'm just curious about the temperatures being wrong on the readout. It doesn't have a "blue scree of death" showing does it; Microsoft OS?

Lowes told me to unplug for 30 minutes or more and then plug back in to restart the computer.

“Sears service” (laughs uncontrollably)!! Sears is closing here. And everywhere else. Too bad if you bought appliances from them. So basically the warranty means nothing? Because if you buy at any of the big box stores they won’t service it without buying an extended warranty? And Costco has a very limited supply.

Lowes is good on appliances as well. Run sales all the time.

No BSOD. Matter of fact, all the readouts are working. They just aren’t displaying the correct temps for the freezer and fridge. Nor are they showing any faults.

Not sure who Lowes uses. I can’t imagine there are more than a few appliance repair companies that all the retailers use around here.

There may be a Sears still open somewhere in the Greater Cincinnati area. But, I don’t know where it is. The one which used to be closest to me is closed up and sits vacant in a mall that’s struggling to stay open itself.

Sears went bust here in Canada last year, and yes, all the warranties (plus the extended warranties they loved to sell people) are worthless AFAIK.

Unplugging the thing for 30 minutes and then reconnecting it might not be a bad idea.

A few years back we purchased an LG HE front-loading washing machine for our townhouse. We bought it from a local well known appliance store along with their service plan. 2 years in, the agitator just stopped working - it would agitate the entire house with shaking, but not the clothes.

Of course, could not get LG on the phone (as everyone here has experienced), but remembered the service plan. Called the Store, they diagnosed it over the phone based on my description and rather than deal with the cost to fix it, simply delivered a new washing machine and took the old one away - said if they could fix it, they'd sell it used.

Thing is, I ended up paying probably 10% more to get these units (vs buying at a big box store) plus the cost of the service plan ($199), but it saved me a whole bunch of hassle. With that extra money, would I have been able to just buy a whole replacement? Maybe.

@graphicguy, just how old is this LG refrigerator? I think you mentioned, but I don't remember.

I also vote for trying the cold boot option -- unplug for 30 minutes. If that doesn't work, I would probably just buy a new one (or a good used one), and store this dead LG in the garage until the issue can be resolved.

Small claims court to try and get your money refunded sounds like one option for trying to resolve.

When I moved into this house 8.5 years ago, I needed all appliances. Stove, refrigerator, washer / dryer, dish washer, microwave, everything. The only item I bought new was the microwave. The refrigerator cost me abut $200, and is pretty nice. Side by side, medium sized, ice and water through the door. It broke down once, cost me about $100 for the repair. It took the technician about 15 minutes to diagnose, replace the small electronic component, and hit the road.

We were talking about electrical costs the other day. Back when I was married, lived in a big house out in the country, I naturally had a second refrigerator. Not in the garage though, was in the mud room. Someone gifted me with one of these for Christmas one year (knowing my technical bent, and my curious nature, it was a great gift.

That old refrigerator was costing me $17 a month in electricity!

There could be some ideas or ways to try and fix it on the page I got.

    Thanks, again everyone!

@driver100 ...first thing I did was to go through the LG Web site to self trouble shoot. I did unplug it (for about an hour). It's getting power.

@henryn ....fridge is 9 months old this month. LG provides a 1 year parts and labor warranty. VISA adds an additional year.

The one service person who said they couldn't schedule me until next month said it sounds like a compressor. He knew right away from my description. So, maybe a common LG problem?

I reached a milestone today when it comes to new cars - I have now had this S450 for 1 year and 1 week - the longest I have kept a car in almost 25 years - and i’m Not done yet!  Honestly, if there was anyway I could keep this car for the rest of my life (driving life that is), i would sign on the dotted line now!

This is, without any doubt, the best car I have ever had.  The car has been back to the dealership only once since I got it 53 weeks ago - for it’s first A Service which turned out to be complimentary.  Not one repair or fault with this car.  Magnificent!  :oB);)

Aren’t you worried about driving such an “old” car? The wheels are certainly falling off by now. I won’t even mention all the baby alligators that are probably living in the exhaust system. Your life is in danger! Trade it, trade it now, save your life! :D

About 200 miles north of South Florida in the Orlando area. Our 2nd night here, got into the high 40's and man, was it delightful. The a/c hasn't been going on much even set at 76 and since having the fans working since about 4 yesterday afternoon, been so much more comfortable just having that air moving. The house is shaping up nicely.
Going back south tomorrow but found one of the local car washes has a detail special Tuesday/Wednesday so taking the Versa over to have it done. Sort of my last present to her for the time being. But it's been all $ well spent and wanted her to be up and running and happy until I can get back up here.
Went and looked at some model homes and will visit others. Going forward, my mind will be set on retiring for good this time and moving up here by a year from now or even a bit sooner. The one Lennar model I just came out of could be the one. Her builder is Pulte and still need to see their other models. Noticed Lennar uses Whirlpool while Pulte is going with Amana right now. Not sure what other choices they each have but will do my investigating. I think this will be a good thing, no, a great thing going forward! Something to finally get excited about and something we, or I could do. That's probably the first of many conversations we're going to need to have. Are we in sync with our next move or what? Are we moving on as a team, a real team where she helps finance it or am I on my own here, and you buy me out of our current home? I just know that for me, I'm moving forward with a move up to this area, near my oldest. We can do this together, or I'll do it alone but I'm all in right now.

Ok a good appliance story. When I purchased the dishwasher at Lowe’s Friday I asked how long before it could be installed. The girl was non comittial and said “we guarantee to do it within 90days”

    What?

She assured me that it didn’t take that long but that’s all she could promise. I asked her that in her experience how long did it USUALLY take. She answered “I hope you didn’t expect it by Thanksgiving because that won’t happen”

I finally said just tell me your best guess and she finally answered two weeks. Ok. Not great but I’ll deal with it.

I got a phone call from the installer yesterday and he can do it Wednesday...the day before Thanksgiving.

Nice for an estimate to be off in my favor for a change.

Oh, an Lowe’s is giving me a rebate covering the install cost.

Lots of horror stories about LG refrigerators on this site:

Example: Compressor failure on a 18 month old $3800 LG refrigerator. We purchased what we thought was a top of the line highly rated refrigerator. After less than 18 months the compressor failed. LG gave me an authorization and local authorized service centers, each one telling me that the compressor (10 year warranty) must come from LG and there is a 4 month backorder and they wouldn't want to do it, because LG doesn't pay them for their time. I found the LG indicated upgrade compressor online and a service tech, $900+ out of pocket for parts and labor. LG offered $650 for parts, labor and food loss and then called me and rudely reneged. This is not an isolated incident, from my investigation, there are thousands of LG customers with the same problems. There is talk of a class action lawsuit.

This guy has similar problem to GG only worse, and the TV station couldn't get answers from LG.

LG FRIDGE - LG Won't Honor Warranty

    Some of the story here:
Earlier this summer, Eyewitness News first told you about another customer's LG refrigerator nightmare. After the story aired, many people reached out to Eyewitness News to say they were going through the same thing and the I-Team looked into these problems.

Kuzma now has his four-year-old refrigerator sitting in his front hallway. He said there was a coil that needed to be replaced, but never got replaced by the company.

His $3,000 LG refrigerator broke four months ago. Kuzma said, after three months of getting the runaround, he caved in and bought another refrigerator.

“They put in the compressor. That worked for one night, not even,” Kuzma said. “Came back the next day, it was dead again. They said it was a different part. Came in for another part after that it didn't run at all.”

Kuzma said the refrigerator is under warranty. He actually purchased one from LG when the fridge broke.

“Had to buy a contract with them to get it fixed. They sold me a contract for $450,” Kuzma said. “They came out several times to fix it, actually waiting weeks and weeks between times to fix it and finally they declared it unrepairable.”

But, the compressor itself is also under a 10-year warranty.

“Even though there is a 10-year warranty on the compressor, the seven-year warranty on the unit, which is parts only, no labor and they said we are giving you money back, less $100 for the contract, so I got $350 back and said we aren't going to do anything, you're on your own.

****it ends with LG doing nothing for this guy.....just laugh him off!

More good news. Got a message from the utility company today saying they recieved my claim and it looks as if they are liable for damage to the PT. Said they would get a check out to me in two weeks pending “getting a statement from the company driver”.

Don’t like that. What can the driver say other than admit he violated every rule of safe backing. In my old class B days if I backed up without first checking behind the vehicle, checking my mirrors, putting on my flashers and sounding my horn I’d be looking for work. This guy did none of that. Imagine if some kid was riding his bike or crossing the street.

Anyway, they didn’t dispute the estimate or want to send their own adjuster. No mention of totaling either. I’m surprised they are sending the check to me rather than the body shop. Maybe they’re glad I didn’t pop up with a lawyer and bogus injuries.

To be quite honest, I have had some sleepless nights with constant tossing and turning in the wee hours of the morning.  This is all new ground for me.  It’s like walking a tightrope with no net below.  Like going food shopping and finding I left my wallet home.  Like arriving at the airport for a flight to China and coming to grips with the fact that I lost my passport and trying to figure out why the heck I’m going to China in the first place.  Like being on a date with a gorgeous woman and then abruptly waking up from my delirious dream.  Like being rushed to the hospital and hesitating taking off my clothes when directed by the nurse after realizing I wasn’t wearing any underwear.

No, this is not as easy to live with (not driving a brand new car every year) as one would think - but I’m doing my darndest to accustom myself to this massive change in my life.

Right you are OF, it’s “The Agony and The Ecstasy” of life!  :o:'(;):DB)

Remember just one day at a time. And you can always call on us when you get close to caving in to desire. Just be sure not to get close to an auto showroom or car displays at the mall. Those Honda Accords and Toyota Corollas will weaken you until you give in an buy one of them. Oh wait, your mall has Rolls Royce and other high end cars, doesn't it?

And be sure not to look sideways at other cars in the parking lot when you go to the grocery to tease the little old ladies.

It's a 12 step program to prevent relapse one day at a time.

Have you ever installed a dishwasher? I don't mean a brand new install, just replacing an existing one? It is pretty straight forward. We're talking maybe 20 minutes. Actually easier than replacing the faucets on the sink.
Oh, don't bank on it! The last one I did had a different inlet valve. No idea how or why, but I wound up having to pull parts off my old dishwasher and creating a hybrid connection. It was the strangest damned thing.

Yep!  There are two main types, and naturally your replacement doesn’t have the same one.

Also... granite/stone countertops can make it a pain to get it secured.  You can’t screw into the bottom of the countertop like with wooden tops.  Mine is no fun to get back in securely just right.  I believe the countertop guys have a clip they can epoxy in now, but didn’t when I had my tops done 7 years ago.

So yesterday my son(who lives in Charlotte, NC) sends us a selfie of him with Mookie Betts! Turns out my son was walking home from work and saw Mookie on the street corner and struck up a conversation. Mookie was in Charlotte on business and was going to catch the Celtics-Hornets game while he was there.

That's neat! I think I heard that later that night he (Betts) spent some time with Michael Jordan. Probably not as memorable for him, though. :)

Yeh, I was wondering that too, that jmonroe1 is really a fun guy...........the original jmonroe was such a grouch.
He probably can't get onto the Edmunds site and will have to come back as jmonroe2, wonder what he will be like?

Talking about those double rear windows I saw one of these today. I didn't know this existed....I could make out that it was a Hyundai, and it looked like IONA but it is an Ioniq....OK

For the first time I can remember, I am visiting friends for Thanksgiving and doing all the cooking.  I bought a 6 pound flat brisket, asparagus, Idaho potatoes, yellow onions, a large clove of garlic, beef broth, beef roux paste, 2 pounds of mushrooms, and carrots.  It takes about 4-5 hours to properly cook a brisket that large.

Friends are providing everything else including the wine and clean-up.  I thought it would be a nice departure from the usual Turkey.

    Sounds delicious!

My Italian wedding soup is simmering on the stove now! My mom is making baked ziti tomorrow and then the 21 LB turkey goes in the morning of.

Way to much food.  My wife takes a step back from this holiday but does our big Christmas Eve open house/ 7 fish dinner

I cook Christmas Day since it’s her birthday.  Usually I get a prime rib from Wegmans.

I’m frying a turkey this year. If I’m not around Thursday night, you’ll know I wasn’t a very good chef OR firefighter...
