we did test drive one, and I had it high on the list as a good compromise "value" option. But they did not lease well enough to make that viable, and became a moot point because the wife did not like it. I was OK with it, but not wowed. So we moved on (and apparently upscale, since she has expensive tastes for some reason)
FWIW... my wife hates my Elantra too. I don't hate it, but certainly don't love it either. Less than a year left with it. I can do it.
The car only has 13K miles after 25 months.
Well I read in Consumer Reports that the car purchase decision is made by 80% of women. So even though we macho guys use the word "I" alot here, the final purchase decision is usually made by the wife. That is why some dealerships are moving away from the insurance & finance department hard sell and the sales haggling model in general. Studies show women hate that and want to spend no more than an hour at the dealership.
More women in sales and F&I would make a bigger difference than any cosmetic changes. And who in their right mind wants to spend more than an hour with the F&I person?
The final purchase decision is not made by my wife per se, but she has the ability to put the kibosh on it - though I will say, after her unhappiness with Mercedes, she did ask more questions about the Alfa. She loves the Alfa though.

As I posted a week or so ago, I bought a GE washer/dryer combo for my condo from Lowe's. It was delivered on Wednesday, November 25th by a subcontractor who does all of their deliveries.
They hauled away the old appliance and installed the new one. They turned on the washer to make sure everything was working and told me to let it complete its cycle, after which they left. It took about 30 minutes for the washer to complete the wash cycle so I went to my laundry closed and tried to close my bi-fold doors which hides the washer/dryer. I could not get the doors to close properly or even re-open properly. It was obvious that when they pulled out the old appliance and put in the new appliance, they "over-opened" the bi-fold doors causing it to come off its track. I was in no position to bend down and try to fix the bi-fold door, so I called Lowe's where I bought the appliance.
Lowe's told me that it was the responsibility of the delivery subcontractor to repair the door and they refused to take any responsibility in the matter. They did call the delivery company who, after 10 days, finally came out Saturday evening (that's right, Saturday evening) and fidgeted with the door for about 30 minutes. They were unable to repair the door. I called Lowe's and they contacted the delivery company. I got a call from the delivery company and they said they would figure out something in the next few days. Meanwhile, my bi-fold doors are half-open, half-closed due to the inability to fully open or close the door.
I can understand why Lowe's has subcontracted all their deliveries and set-up of appliances in order to alleviate themselves of all the headaches associated with installation and delivery of their products. But to tell me that "they" are not responsible for the repair or replacement of the door and that it's the sub-contractor's responsibility since they broke the door is outrageous. I am their customer who spent $1200 on one of their products. I told Lowe's that I am between a rock and a hard place because they refuse to intervene on my behalf. The delivery/set-up subcontractor is insinuating that the door was old and that it was not their fault. I told them that the door was opening and closing perfectly before their installed put in the new appliance.
So, now it looks like I am going to have to hire a subcontractor to put in a new upper and lower track and a new door for my laundry closet at a large expense to me.
In short, I definitely WOULD NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER THING FROM LOWE'S! Home Depot is now going to get all my business. Lowe's customer service is terrible and to not stand behind one of their customers with a delivery company they subcontracted is terrible business practices.
ATTENTION: Oldfarmer, I am thinking you probably have a turbo 6 in your Stang right? Try going around a corner and then see what it is like if you stomp it once you turn. The turn should be one where you slow down to 10 or 20 mph, you coast around, and then give it the gas. See if you experience lag time before the turbo kicks in.
@driver100 ....I’ve never driven a C250. I’ve certainly had other turbos before, though.
Depending on the way they implemented the turbos, the ones I’ve driven with dual scroll turbos (as I had with my ‘11 335i....which was a GEM of an engine) seem to alleviate the lag associated with other turbo motors. Even the one I had in the CTS was pretty good....also dual scroll. Torque was available down low in the rev range.
The one I had with the Q50 3.0T was actually a twin turbo which did the same thing with 2 turbos. The problem with that one, the transmission was sort of always in the wrong gear. Once you finally did get it to drop a ratio or two, of course the turbos spooled up quickly and it became a handful.
Not sure about your C. I thought it was quite nice when you posted about using it as your FL car. The C300s I’ve test driven didn’t seem to have any issues down low in the rev range and were all quite torquey. I’ll assume yours is based on the same drivetrain?
@abacomike, sorry about your problem with Lowe’s subcontractor, a PITA. BUT...Home Depot is no better. We’ve had problems with their subcontractors as well, and have heard unfortunate stories from others. The work you have done is as good as the subcontractor assigned to the job. I think that the local “mom and pop” stores, who employ their installers, are probably still the best.

Good point, carnaught. Unfortunately, the mom and pop appliance stores are so few and far between, it is almost impossible to find one. And when you do find one, they usually don't have what I need. Because I have a small laundry closet in my condo, it can only handle those upright washer/dryer combos. So I am limited in what I can buy to fit in that small space. I did do several washes yesterday and really had no problem. The dryer actually dries my clothes and towels and linens twice as fast as the old one.
So it is not the product that is giving me problems, it's what the delivery and installing subcontractor did. I just got off the phone with Lowe's and they are putting pressure on the delivery company to do something about this mess - so I guess I finally got to the right manager. Let's hope they do something faster than another 2 weeks.
@abacomike, I’m sorry to tell you that you could have the same experience at ANY of the big box stores. In fact, I had a very similar experience with Sears when we replaced our washer and dryer 2 years ago. It turns out many older condo units just don’t have enough room for today’s machines. The installer took off our bifold doors and told us we would have to hire a contractor build out room and buy new ones — which we did. And all the big box stores contract out installers, and there are few if any independent repair folks left. Not too many independent appliance stores anymore either. It’s really a bad situation for appliance customers now, and doesn’t look like it’s changing anytime soon.
The C250 is the old 1.8t engine. Unlike a 3 liter 6, which is still fast without any turbo boost, that’s a little engine in a relatively heavy car. So it needs to get that head of steam up.
The transmission wanting to be in a too high gear is a common problem.
Try sport mode. And if stopped, you can left foot brake and give it some gas to spool it up, like if you were in a drag race.

Your assessment of the turbo is exactly right....it has good torque....the problem was noticeable only when I coasted around that one corner. Roadburner solved the problem though....I will explain in my next post.
ATTN: Roadburner You were right on with the diagnosis. Like I say, I only noticed it at that one corner which I coasted around. If I press on the gas while going into the turn as you suggested, there is absolutely no problem. I tried another right turn using SPORT mode and that along with pressing on the gas going into the corner made it have even more zip........way more than needed for most situations. Thanks for the info..................that one problem was nicely solved.....and now I don't have to buy an Ecoboost. I love driving the C250 again - well always did, but now even more.
GG described it right too, the 4 cyl turbo engine has lots of power when you need it....just make sure it is in the right RPM range.

@abacomike ...been a while since I bought anything major from either Lowes or Home Depot. I don’t know if they still do it, but they always had me sign off on a delivery form that I noticed no damage done to my abode as a result of their delivery. If you still have the delivery form that you signed, I think you might want to make note of the damage to your door. Lowes should be the correct contact for this. You didn’t hire the contractor....Lowes did.

Wes, so more like not a fault with the transmission....the car has chosen the wrong gear. Actually, that is exactly what if feels like. It feels like it is in about 3rd when it should have been in 2nd....and, if it was a manual that is what I would put it into.
Yes. It isn't a fault really, it is just that the gearing is low relative to the speed of the vehicle. It will accelerate there, but slowly, and in order to get it to be more responsive it first must shift to the next gear down in order to increase the ratio to put more hooves on the ground!
The reason you won't notice this on a full-stop right is that the car will always put the transmission in first gear when you come to a complete stop. If you have paddle shifters, try bumping the gear down to second as you approach your next slow right turn, then see how responsive it is as you come out of the turn!

Well we all know which side of the mattress our bread is buttered on, on something like that !
Great explanation and I will try that. Driving is very treacherous here, so although I can turn on the green arrow I don't trust anyone,,,,,,I go a bit slower to make sure no one has gone through a light, no one is doing a U-turn (which is legal), no police cars or fire trucks are going through the lights, which happens, that the cars to the left actually stopped for a red light and 100 other things that could happen and I have probably seen happen.
Another factor is if I picked up speed too soon with my old Continentals they could slide on the pavement here, so I do take corners a bit slower now. But, I get the feeling the new Michelins will take corners faster.
So, I will try more gas earlier. Should I try sport mode going into the turn too?
Yes, on a straight up turn where you know you're going to bolt coming into it, @roadburner clearly has it. The problem with many of these intersection rights is that you often cannot see all risks well enough to commit to pulling through the turn rather than taking a more cautious approach.

Thanks! I was talking more about cornering than negotiating intersections. However, sport mode may help; as others have noted, the transmission is probably starting in second gear. Try sport mode; it will likely sharpen the throttle response and might cause the transmission to start in first gear. Funny thing; my wife had a complaint similar to yours when driving her Clubman(no turbo and S L O W)- specifically when pulling out on a main highway. I tried sport mode and that solved the issue. The MINI sport mode affects throttle response as well as the transmission's shift logic.
Sheesh; take a day off and might as well hang up the conversation for good!

I guess there are quite a few buys like in my house. I do all the analysis and legwork, narrow down to what I am good with, then show the wife the short list for her input. She does weigh in on color (especially interior) for any car.
Though normally she doesn’t as much pick the winner, as eliminate ones she doesn’t want.
What happens after that depends if my car (“get what you want”, which actually means “you better get something I like but I’m not telling you what it is”). Or her car, in which case, she will finally express a preference, but maybe compromise if major cost difference.

I think we should coin a new phrase for this sort of scenario: "Miked up."
Example: "I went out for coffee this morning. It should have been a five minute errand, but twenty minutes and two ambulances later, I realized that it was definitely Miked up."

Exactly, the intersection in question has multiple fender benders all day long I am on a 3 lane smaller road, entering a 3 lane much faster road. There are delayed lights, advanced lights, cars doing U-turns, cars going through red lights. Even if I have a green arrow I want to take a look before I enter the corner, but, I take a look and start pushing on the gas, instead of coasting around. Works like a charm.

Appreciate the advice.
I saw that HULU special, that is for the "limited commercials" version of their package. A little reading convinced me that I did NOT want their "limited commercials" package, as it has MANY commercials. What you want is the "no commercials" package, for quite a bit more money.
What does limited commercials mean to you? A few spots at the beginning and middle?
As I discovered when I recently re-signed up for the Hulu TV subscription service, "limited" means just as annoying and frequent as the ads we see on broadcast TV, but with a twist: we're paying for this service.

Stick, it sounds like a reasonable way to buy a car....you do the research, Mrs. Stick eliminates the one's she doesn't like. I would think Accords, Camry's I even saw a really nice Altima today...though Scotty wouldn't approve. Did she not like the Sonata? And there are Hyundai and Kia SUVs. Or go CPO, I saw a nice Volvo 60 today, you could probably get a nice low mileage CPO almost anything that would work. Lots of choice, just finding one you both like....and dealing with all these salesmen. Maybe you should go to a Car Show!

Don't find the commercials anywhere near as intrusive as I notice on regular broadcast TV. For their flagship show, The Handmaid's Tale (which is excellent), I haven't noticed no more than about a couple of 30 second commercials every 15 minutes or so. Compare that to watching an NFL game on CBS, where commercials drown on and on and on while the game is stopped for a "TV Break".
The normal service is $7/mo with no commercials.
Does HuLu have a local stations streaming offering? Trying to find out from them, and can't see where you can contact their customer service.
@driver100, I 'sport mode' works for that seems like the best solution, it's already built in. My 2013 Fusion had a single scroll turbo, but it never lacked power. Had to watch out for inside wheel hop on tight right hand turns from a stop.

Can't say much for HULU as we don't use it. As for OTA placement of the antenna is important. If we put the antenna in the window closest to the TV, a north facing window we do have limited success with getting stations with clarity (we even can't get some stations). If we move the antenna twenty feet to the east and put it in a east facing window we get alltgestations very clear. So try different antenna placements.
As for streaming we use a ruko stick which as a decent amount of free content and access to other streaming services. We also use something called Sling which gives use most of the cable channels we have up with cable.

Explorer, You probably didn't lack power because you could accelerate into the turn. That was the problem, at that one particular corner I was coasting around. Could wheel hop be from FWD? I haven't experienced any wheel hop. I have had the back wheels slide out a bit after a long dry spell and then a light rain......oil makes the roads slippery. That happened with my old Continentals, not sure how the Michelins will be.
Driver, Mrs. stick is tired of Mr. Stick I think. She doesn't understand the process of evaluating (over and over!) every option. And pays no attention to my spreadsheets. Especially when she thinks we have a car decided on, and I think of one I forgot about. She seems to think I have commitment issues!
I blame Honcker. Every so often it pops up another deal of the day I had not thought about, but after researching a bit, should be on the list. Got one more newbie for tomorrow. As a bonus, when I went to the dealer site to look at inventory, it popped up one of those "test drive and get a $50 gift card" offers. Seems like karma working to me!
I think you should go the Craigslist route and buy one of each car you wanted 15 years ago. At $5k apiece your sure to find something she likes and something you like.

Maybe another Sonata stick? You probably want something different though. Lots of similar cars though....some with better handling.........Accord maybe?

As others have pointed out I have the 5.0L V8. The turbo Mustang is the Ecoboost 4cyl. 2.3L. The now discontinued V6 was NA.
I too lusted for more torque at low rpms so I installed the Ford Racing Performance PAC 2 which gives me an additional 40+ ft lbs at 1500.
Maybe a few tasteful mods would work for you too.
As to nailing a V8 Mustang around corners, be careful what you ask for.

Sounds similar to my experience with the Lowe’s sub on my dishwasher. He walked out after refusing to install it requiring me to hire a plumber.

I was based out of Boca Raton for my 31 year postal career and we also handled Highland Beach. Nice place on the ocean but a bit too pricey for us. My dad's family has been coming down to Miami Beach since the late '40's and eventually ended up in what is now Aventura but have seen many pics of my siblings down in old Miami where South Beach is now. Next year will be 50 years that I've lived in the Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Beach/Boca Raton area and to be honest, am so ready for a change! That's why moving to the Orlando area is tempting, I just want a change I guess!
SDA, that's how I work my auto tranny in my '15 Golf, when I need more take off power, put it into "S" mode but go back into "D" mode once I'm at a good speed and yes, the tach does drop down in rpm's. It got rid of that annoying "turbo lag" I also suffered from when taking off from a dead stop onto the expressway. Starting out in "S" eliminates the issue and off I go. Actually made me enjoy my Golf even more once I was told to do it this way. Great little run-about for me and it's been fine since it's accident. Getting both it and the A3 their winter time waxing tomorrow so we'll both be set. Did the Versa last time I was in St. Cloud so all that's left is the Accent down in South Miami. I like a clean waxed vehicle.
Those were interesting to watch....it seems these guys get all hyper when they leave a car show. I guess with that big V8 you shouldn't go to any car shows...in case the mood strikes to act like an idiot.
Like many of you, I’m in the throws of “cutting to cord” and sat Dish. Just got a 1 TB TIVO box. Also got an HD OTA antenna (which is limited in its successes).
I’m taking advantage of a HULU special (99 cents/mo for a year). So, looking for a better alternative for OTA channels. Any good antenna suggestions? Any streaming options for local HD channels?
Appreciate the advice.
It’s not available up here so no firsthand experience but I’ve read good things about YouTube TV. Apparently they offer local channels in many areas of the USA.
Today was the day I said goodbye to my beloved Panasonic plasma TV after 10+ years and over 20,000 hours of use. It was still working but the picture was losing brightness which the plasmas eventually do. I gave it away and got reminded of how well built it was - weighed close to 100lbs.
I replaced it, at least for now, with a TCL 55” Roku Tv. Took some time to get in dialed in but seems fine right now. The bigger screen (the Panasonic was 46”) takes some getting used to. It seems to make variations in the quality of the picture much more obvious. Got it on Amazon as a Black Friday deal so not a whole lot of $ at stake.
Was reminded of something I forget in packing up the Panasonic. In the summer of ‘08 I paid $1,750 for it plus $350 for an extended warranty I didn’t need but wanted, after getting burned on a defective Sony that was failing after just 3 years. The new one cost just a bit more than 20% of what that cost me.

So it is not the product that is giving me problems, it's what the delivery and installing subcontractor did. I just got off the phone with Lowe's and they are putting pressure on the delivery company to do something about this mess - so I guess I finally got to the right manager. Let's hope they do something faster than another 2 weeks.
Thanks for your insights, carnaught.

The transmission wanting to be in a too high gear is a common problem.
Try sport mode. And if stopped, you can left foot brake and give it some gas to spool it up, like if you were in a drag race.
Or buy a car with a hemi.

Roadburner solved the problem though....I will explain in my next post.

You were right on with the diagnosis.

The reason you won't notice this on a full-stop right is that the car will always put the transmission in first gear when you come to a complete stop. If you have paddle shifters, try bumping the gear down to second as you approach your next slow right turn, then see how responsive it is as you come out of the turn!

I 'sport mode' works for that seems like the best solution, it's already built in.
My 2013 Fusion had a single scroll turbo, but it never lacked power.
Had to watch out for inside wheel hop on tight right hand turns from a stop.
As for streaming we use a ruko stick which as a decent amount of free content and access to other streaming services. We also use something called Sling which gives use most of the cable channels we have up with cable.

Could wheel hop be from FWD? I haven't experienced any wheel hop. I have had the back wheels slide out a bit after a long dry spell and then a light rain......oil makes the roads slippery. That happened with my old Continentals, not sure how the Michelins will be.
