Your standard auto insurance would not cover it. But there are companies that specialize in insuring vehicles for when they are on the track, but it can be expensive. I definitely would get that insurance if was going to race.

It isn't all that expensive; the premium to insure my 2er(with a agreed value of $36,000) was only $220 for a three day event. A three day event for my Club Sport was just $76 based on a $10,000 agreed value.
My first question is what type of event? Was it a race like we saw, or a drag race or just running laps? Secondly I would consider $220 for three days a bit on the high side for insurance as that amount would get me several months of insurance for one of my cars and a years worth on the bike.

I see Chevy is running the employees pricing for everybody commercials again. What kind of discounts are we actually taking about?

Or is this just advertising hype?

My guess is that it's hype.

How about a brand new Bronco?

Restorers Gateway Broncos have got the official rights from Ford to build brand-new recreations of 1966 through 1977 Ford Broncos, completely under license and out of fresh sheet metal.

Gateway Broncos started out as a Bronco restoration company, but has now secured an agreement with Ford to reproduce the classic truck, even offering five-year bumper-to-bumper warranties on the things.

The Bronco will be offered in three different trim models: the Fuelie, the Coyote Edition, and the Modern Day Warrior.

Instead of using old technology like the anemic six-cylinder many Broncos came with, these recreations will be using brand-new engines, and hopefully modern rust prevention as well.

The Fuelie will feature a 347-cubic-inch stroker V8; and the Coyote Edition and Modern Day Warrior will get the 5.0-litre V8 from the Mustang. Wilwood disc brakes are now standard all around.

Good looks and good performance rarely come cheap, and that statement is true here. A brand-new Gateway Bronco will set you back US$120,000 to $180,000, but considering the technological advancements and the fact it’s made of new parts, that’s not too bad for a recreation. Sometimes restorations will total that much or more

See if you can find one on CL, for a lot less $'s.
As requested. Maybe explorerx4 can go look at it for you.

$4900 for thqt POCrap! Thanks, can you come up with something a little better OF?

One man’s POS is another man’s opportunity. A little buffing and that $4900 Bronco will be as good as these:

Much better....if those are worth $35000 and $52000 they make the first one worth $4.90. In fact, he should pay to have someone haul it away!

Seems to be a real discount.....good price if that is the car you want....almost within Sticks budget too!
    What does this mean:
    Smedley's Savings 2
    - $1,436
    Take Delivery By 01/02/2019
    Cash Allowance 3
    - $4,503

    - Why $4503 for paying cash....if that is what they mean, don't they want you to finance (through them)?

Saw all sorts of imbeciles driving Mustangs, Camaros, etc. I used to take my Cobra to shows....mostly shine and park events. But, then you’d have the idiots, who insisted on trying to be Richard RAwlings, and do burnouts after the shows, on city streets. Invariably, they’d either hit another “Show” car, or even worse, a building.

Saw a person do just that with a really nice ‘68 Z/28. Trying to smoke the tires (period correct tires, no less) pulling away from a car show in Lebanon Ohio only to go sideways into another grouping of vintage Camaros nearby.

Doubt very seriously his insurance covered that. Also glad I was further down the road with the Mustag grouping, away from the carnage.

@imidazol97 ....thanks for the link for OTA towers.

I think I’ve solved the dilemma. Called DirecTV to cancel service. Lo and behold, you can’t do it online, as you HAVE TO TALK to a customer service agent to cancel. That didn’t go well. The CS rep lowered my bill by $70, just by telling them I was cancelling. When I asked why they had been over charging me all these years, and if they would refund my overpayment, the CS rep was dumbfounded. Of course, they wouldn’t do that. So, I cancelled over his protestations.

You have to send the Tuner box back to them (on their dime, which is sort of nice). But, they don’t want me to take the Sat Dish down to send to them. My guess is the shipping costs more than the Sat Dish is worth.

But, the infrastructure to hold the dish in place can accommodate a much better OTA outdoor antenna. Even the wiring into the house is all there. Once attached to the old Sat Dish brace, all I have to do is hook up the wire on the antenna and then my TV. Will go look at those tonight.

Good call on the outdoor antenna! I hate paying Comcast $245 / month but I can’t see cutting it off for now.

They do offer a huge amount of programming, and I don’t think my mom would do well with just streaming. If it was just my wife and I, we would certainly dump it.

You guys are assuming people are honest about how things happened.

I know a guy who wrecked his WRX autocrossing. He towed it home, waited for the next storm, and towed it to the nearest cement barrier.

Of course, Mustang Boy is screwed because someone filmed it and posted it online.

graphicguy you are really going to like OTA. With digital signals it will come in nice and sharp and there is a ton of station. IIRC we have over 70. Once you remove the foreign language, shopping and religious stations we end up with a good 25 to 30 stations.

That’s a pretty substantial reduction. Almost $9k off a $36,000 sticker. I assume the $4500 is the employee pricing discount? Not bad.

I’m seeing some pretty aggressive deals across the board right now.

Said it when I first saw the Impala redesign a few years ago. I’d take it over a $60K XTS Cadillac. To get one under $30K, pretty remarkable....if you don’t mind that it’s a discontinued model. Must be a ton of GM to dealer trunk cash on these.

Then again, the Kia dealer is still emailing me about making a deal on the Stinger before the end of the year. Last offer was $38,720 on the ‘18 GT2 in Red. I figure if I wait long enough, they might pay me to come take it.

I can only imagine what this level of discounting is going to do to resale. Even with that heavy discount, the first year depreciation would be brutal - you'd want them to pay you to take it.

If it starts getting annoying, tell them you'll take it for some ridiculously low number - like $28-$30k. For that kinda money, it'd make sense...

The Bruno Palessi prank. Most in this forum probably have heard about the Payless Shoes experiment and how easily consumers can be manupilated. Here is how it went down. Payless rented a store front in a high-end business district, stocked it with Payless shoes branded as Bruno Palessi and priced them at luxury prices.

To give the Palessi brand and store even more cachet Paless invited influencers to shop at their store. These inflencers were not in on the prank, nonetheless they bought the Palessi branded shoes at $600 or more that would ordinarily sell at Payless for about $20. The prank was so effective that it drew in social media followers of these influencers. They decended on the Palessi Store believing they were trend setters by buying an avarnte garde brand and style at prices that exceeded $1,200. What embarassment...(they however were refunded their money and asked to keep the shoes for free)

So what does this say about us and our perception of luxury? We are gullible and can be easily manupilated. Car manufacturers have been doing this for a long time by simply slapping an exotic name brand on a generic vehicle and selling it in fancy dealership and call it luxury. In short, we are all snubs going at great lengths to project an aura of afflunce or superiority. And for our stupidity marketers take advantage of us.

I’m looking at a Kia Soul with fond eyes since they are offering 10% off in their ads. The reviews indicate it might be a nice little grocery getter/Uber car. If it was a performance car like the Stinger I might wait for the 2020 redesign but for an A to B vehicle, having the latest and greatest features isn’t that important.

Ha! That was new to me so thanks for sharing. In some cases luxury is really obvious, like machined aluminum versus molded plastic, but oftentimes it really does come down to perception.

How come no doors and it looks like it doesn't have doors you can put on? Are you supposed to put a chain across the opening? Is that the way those cars came....it looks more like a car kit than the real thing? I assume the 500 miles is on the new motor.

Those are fiberglass panels that fit into the door opening. I don't think any Broncos were actually sold without doors. Wranglers have always had removable doors- including the new JL. As for falling out? That's what seat belts are for.

Having the doors removed makes rock crawling visibility much easier and that Bronco pictured is definitely setup for off-roading adventures. You just have to be contentious about not sticking your arm out if you roll over. People instinctively try to stop it from happening, but even a body builder’s arm isn’t going to stop 4,000+ pounds from rolling. Best to keep your arms and legs inside the ride and then pick up the pieces after. Yes, I’ve been in that predicament before.

I’m pretty resistant to that kind of marketing as I value the cash in my wallet over the perceptions of others. I wouldn’t pay $600 for shoes even if they had wings.

Having said that, I’d probably be a sucker for a Palessi coupe. :D

Agreed. I probably would regret it the next time I find something that tickles my fancy and I want to make a deal. But, for that money, it’s probably the best car for the price by a pretty large margin.

I see Chevy is running the employees pricing for everybody commercials again. What kind of discounts are we actually taking about?

Or is this just advertising hype?

That’s a pretty substantial reduction. Almost $9k off a $36,000 sticker. I assume the $4500 is the employee pricing discount? Not bad.

I’m seeing some pretty aggressive deals across the board right now.
Said it when I first saw the Impala redesign a few years ago. I’d take it over a $60K XTS Cadillac. To get one under $30K, pretty remarkable....if you don’t mind that it’s a discontinued model. Must be a ton of GM to dealer trunk cash on these.

OF....having spent some time looking at their other offerings when I was in their store several weeks ago, I was dutifully impressed with their lineup. While I was waiting around for the sales guy to get the test drive car to the front door, I had some time to look at the Soul, the Optima and their mini-van, which was in the showroom. All were pretty nice vehicles for the price.

I think the Soul would be a great replacement for the PT, and probably more reliable.

FWIW, we're considering a Soul EV for my wife (new or used) when the lease is up on the BMW. Her car sits in a park and ride 5 miles away from home most of the time during the week, so seems like a perfect use case for an EV.

Thanks for pointing that out....now I see how he put the fiberglass panels in the door openings.

Back home, a guy had a doorless JEEP, he had to go across a highway and turn a sharp left to blend into traffic and his dog fell out the passenger space where the door would be.

He wrote a letter to the newspaper telling people to be careful if your dog could fall out of your car. He got the dog back and it was OK this time.

It’s getting to be crunch time on replacing the PT. My plan was to pass it down to my son as his next Uber car in a few years but recently his Sable has been throwing a CEL for misfire cyl. 6. Plugs, coil, injector replacement haven’t cured it.

As a last gasp I took it to the Ford dealer for some diagnostics. They showed cyl. 6 compression down by 6% or 30 psi and said it probably needed a valve job. ($3000). As an alternative they offered a BG fuel induction service. This made sense because my indie mechanic speculated a carbon build up or a burnt valve. Figured this would rule out one or the other.

Surprisingly, it seemed to do some good as the CEL didn’t come back on yet and the rough idle is gone. They said a lot of “junk” was blown out.

What this all means is if the Sable keeps running I’ll be replacing the PT no later than the end of 2019. If it blows up I’ll be replacing it sooner.

I had an @abacomike sort of day today.

My new TV was scheduled to arrive today according to the tracking provided by Amazon. The shipper was Purolator. I had been tracking it for the last week or so ever since it left the warehouse in British Columbia, on the other side of the country. I was pleased to see when I checked it early this morning that it had arrived at Purolator's local depot at 1:42 this morning and was placed on a local truck for delivery at 8:14.

Since I was up bright and early I did my morning routine fairly quickly and was waiting for a knock on the door. At around 9:30 came the knock. But it was instead the home care worker for my elderly 94 y-o neighbor, who waved from their car at the curb, holding a package of a couple of small items that was in that same order but shipped via Canada Post separately. They had delivered it to her by mistake and left it on her back deck in the snow. I checked the address on the package and it was correct, so the postie screwed up. Hmmm. No harm done, it was nice of them to stop by on their way to buy groceries.

The morning passed and no knock. At lunchtime though, another knock, and it was the same home care lady, this time holding a delivery attempted slip from Purolator. They had gone to her house as well, while they were out shopping. Unreal. Since there was still plenty of time left in the work day, I tried to reach the local Purolator office to arrange a retry. Discovered that you cannot talk to anyone there as their phone number is a closely guarded secret. You can only use the national 1-800 number. This time of year you get a recording saying they are so busy you will be on hold a long time and might want to try to reach them by other methods. I reach out online and explain it was their mistake, they went to the wrong house, I was here all day and it seemed reasonable that it would still be on the truck and could be delivered today. Got a "we'll see what we can do" response with no promises, and of course I waited until 5PM for a delivery that did not come. It is now supposed to be here Monday. Blew the whole day, could not go out, could not take care of some business I wanted to do. Now we start again Monday.

Needless to say I would not recommend Purolator for any sort of freight services.

    Hello Ab348,

I apologize that we did not attempt delivery to the correct location and for the delay on re delivery. If you still have not received your parcel please email us at customer.care@purolator.com for further assistance.

They will be starting with the 2020 Soul. Depends what leases look like. May make sense just to buy an off lease 2016/2017 Soul EV in the low teens. We don't need the range by any stretch.

I was just thinking that. Purolator must have some darn good web monitoring software and an accompanying algorithm to identify negative information posted on the web.
