Sorry to be slow, Driver, but I too wanted to pass along my sympathy. Losing two of my goldens to cancer was one of the toughest things I’ve though and thinking about that time still brings tears to my eyes. Dogs are special and I just wanted to say I’m sorry to hear about Gigi. I always loved the pictures you posted.
FWIW, we're considering a Soul EV for my wife (new or used) when the lease is up on the BMW. Her car sits in a park and ride 5 miles away from home most of the time during the week, so seems like a perfect use case for an EV.
I think I read that the Soul EV and Hyundai Kona EV are very similar.
doesn't the Kona have at least twice the range as the Soul?
About twice the range, but for the type of driving he mentioned either would work well. Resale on the shorter range EVs is pretty low, so going used can be pretty attractive. My understanding is that the Kona will have very limited availability.
@driver100 so sorry to hear of the loss of your pet. I hope you can find comfort in the fact that you gave Gigi the best possible life and cherish the memories you and your wife made with her.

Michaell: So sorry for your loss of Gigi. I feel like I got to know her well from your stories and pictures. As the owner of three senior dogs (ages 15, 11 and 10), the wife and I are trying to prepare for "the day".
I hope you are able to adopt a new member of your family soon, who loves to travel and have adventures in both Canada and Florida.
Guys, thank you for your kind and heartfelt thoughts. It really helps to be able to share the sorrow, and your comments are touching and mean a lot. I would love to reply to each individually, but I really thank you.
Michaell, 3 senior dogs 15, 11 and 10! OMG. That must be a riot of fun.....and love. Enjoy them.
@driver100 I'm saddened to hear about Gigi. A friend had a dog who developed cancer in what now sounds like the same way. She was suffering before Frances had to put her loving companion to sleep and out of her misery.
After a time maybe you might check into rescuing one of the many dogs in shelters who are looking for a loving home.
Ya know, that makes me wonder what kind of security this site offers for us dues paying regulars? Purolator ain't my problem but the ones you mentioned could be harmful to us. Especially the IRS because we are coming up on the cheating season for me.

Security? Alphabet, facebook, twitter, and all the rest of the uncontrolled digital giants already are capturing and selling everything about us.
In Cincinnati there's City Council problem where 5 or the members were texting each other and doing council business out of public view. The text messages may have contained some talk that some members don't want to have become public.
The text messages were "erased" off one member's phone rather than turning in his phone and messages to the court handling it. Another accidentally dropped hers in a swimming pool. I suggested just asking Google, or any of those giants to provide their copy to the court. The digital giants likely have them.
Your comments about Gigi were touching, and it is nice to know others feel the same pain when a beloved pet dies. I have saved your comments, I copied and pasted them into My Documents, they mean a lot to me and Mrs D. I told Mrs D I didn't really expect a response but it was way beyond what I ever imagined. We both truly thank you.
imid I suggested just asking Google, or any of those giants to provide their copy to the court. The digital giants likely have them.
Isn't that being tested? I thought so far Google doesn't want anyone being able to get into their system, in order to protect peoples privacy. That is a tough call to make, do you really want law enforcement or the government to be able to look at your private correspondence? Personally, I don't care if it solves a crime...unless of course, I committed it. Seriously though, it does open a BIG door.

And this is why I don't do ANY online banking or communicate ANY financial info with my financial advisor via the internet. It's bad enough that the IRS might know that I cheat on my taxes but they would have to lurk in here to get that admission from me. I'm not going to blab that around on any other sites I might visit.
I think I was in 5th grade when I first head an axiom credited to Ben Franklin who said, "two people can keep a secret but only if one of them is dead". I've never forgotten that axiom and I still believe it. People have made the internet a very scary thing but you can't blame the guy that invented it.

I'm at my Buick/GMC dealership for routine service so I decided to wander over to the sales show room. The first thing to greet me is a GMC Acadia Denali with a huge Christmas bow on the hood.
Not unusual per se, it is Christmas season after all. But the $47,500 MSRP was surprising since it is a 2017 model. But there is one more surprise...wait for it, a yellow sticker on the driver's side window quoting the Massachusetts Lemon Law verbatim. No other vehicle in the showroom has such a cautionary sticker.
What do you conclude? a lemon or a legal requirement for cars more than one model old sold as new. BTW, nothing new at Buick just an empty storefront and overflowing storage lot.
What did the sticker actually say? MSRP doesn't change with age, what should change is the asking price. So the car may have high MSRP, but it should have some screaming "GILLION OFF" sticker somewhere.

Since the car is a 2017 and the showroom floor should have 2019 models on it, I'm guessing that the beast is a lemon law buy-back. Checking the mileage could confirm that.

I was thinking....if Fed-Ex is lurking I wouldn't be surprised if the IRS is lurking.
The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR) recently conducted a survey of Massachusetts auto dealerships to determine how many were displaying Lemon Law stickers on every vehicle for sale, as mandated by state law.
Inspectors visited over 80 dealerships in 26 cities and towns in Massachusetts and audited a total of 2,265 cars. Of the dealerships inspected, 20 were 100% compliant, meaning all of their vehicles had a Lemon Law sticker, while 16 dealerships had 0% compliance.
Why are these stickers and the rights they display important to you as a consumer and car-buyer? The Lemon Law is designed to protect consumers who purchase a new or used vehicle, only to later discover that the vehicle has a defect that cannot be repaired despite a reasonable number of attempts. If your vehicle meets these standards, you may be entitled to a refund or a replacement.
Be on the lookout for the above decals next time you are shopping for a new or used vehicle. If you notice that a dealership has failed to display their Lemon Law stickers, contact our office. Great, how do you know it was a lemon if it didn't have a sticker?
Having a lemon law sticker on every new car on the lot seems like bureaucratic overkill. Have an attachment to the sales contract, fine. But the sticker could lead people to believe that the vehicle they are interested in is actually a lemon when it really isn't.
I've never seen a lemon sticker like that on a car that was NOT a lemon. Usually just get the lemon law disclosure during delivery that I have to sign-off on.

I belong to a few, not many, but committed a faux pas last night in one.
A guy who I have interacted fine with previously posted a pic of (as he put it) "a friend tightening her lug nuts" showing a pic of a scantily-clad female with a cross-handled lug wrench using it on a wheel. I figured it was a random pic he found somewhere online. The female was covered with tattoos from face to hip (and probably beyond which was out of frame) which I personally find very unattractive, so I made a crack about hoping she could get some help for her skin condition, with an emoji to indicate it was in jest. Well. It turns out it was not a random pic with just a generic friend comment he made, it was his actual girlfriend. Uh oh. If I had known that I wouldn't have said anything so I apologized but he still was overheated and quite bent out of shape. Finally seems to have calmed down now. Think I will lay low there at least with him. Can't deal with people who have bad taste in such things anyway. <--- DISCLAIMER: PLEASE NOTE LAUGHING EMOJI INDICATING LAST COMMENT IS NOT SERIOUS
I still cannot understand how anyone who covers themselves with ink from head to toe can think it looks good. To me there are few things less attractive regarding the looks of a woman. The world is crazy these days.

Does the phrase "don't judge a book by it's cover" mean anything?
My son's girlfriend has a fair amount of tattoos. When he introduced her to my mom, she was a bit shocked by it. Now that they've been together a while, she has gotten past the ink and realizes she is a warm, sweet person who is a great companion for my son.
Interesting. Some very nice cars in there. My number one pick would probably be the 68 Dodge Charger with the Hemi. I actually owned a 69 Charger, but it was the 440, not the Hemi. The 68 Camaro Z28 was also a real blast, a friend of mine owned own.

As the Romans said (a version of a Latin proverb, De gustibus non est disputandum) and millions of others have reiterated over the years, there is no accounting for taste.
I find that what I prefer is in the distinct minority these days, and that suits me fine.

I agree, BTW, regarding tattoos.
It’s all personal preference and tats are everywhere today. My own opinion is that I wouldn’t place bumper stickers on a Ferarrari....or a Tesla.
On the Kia Soul, I came within inches of buying one about 2 years ago. It is a lot of car for very little money.
What stopped me was when I realized that I could buy a 1 year old ex-rental Town and Country with about 30 or 35k miles for almost exactly the same money. For my money, I liked the T&C more, and I have not regretted that decision.
If you're sure that you would never use the extra space of the T&C, then the Soul could be the better choice for you. New versus used, long warranty instead of very short, better mpg, easier to park, etc.
Your money, your choice.
Related note: How well does the Soul lease?
According to Edmunds there is $1760 lease assistance cash on a 36 month and $2640 on a 24 month lease. There’s $2000 cash on a purchase.
I got to drive a Soul today for about 100 miles and I was impressed. Decent power and handling, comfortable ride, great visibility. Pretty much checks all the boxes for a grocery getter. For a rental car with 45k miles it held up pretty good.
I like the Chrysler mini vans too. Very comfortable but I have a full size cargo van for heavy hauling.

A year or so ago, I scored a lease for my SIL on a Soul EV+ with Sun and Fun package (fully loaded - $38k MSRP) for first month and tags at signing (about $1k) and $149 a month. 36 month, 10k a year lease. Residual on it is about $12k.
Wow, $12k residual after 36 months? That’s Titanic level depreciation.

I owned a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T with the Hemi and 4 speed stick. The gear stick had an elbow in it which moved the stick control closer to the driver. The car was fast and all muscle. Not the best car for a daily driver because it was much too powerful for street use in my opinion.
Also owned a 1967 Corvette with the 427 cubic inch 435 horsepower. That car was the most powerful and fastest car I ever owned. Whiplash was what I named her. 4-speed Muncie transmission with lockout reverse. Spring loaded heavy duty clutch. Unbelievably fast.

Yes, I'm sure that 40 or 50 years from now they will regret their decisions, especially if there is no economical/easy way to remove them by then. I know a late-20s lady who is quite attractive except for the tattooed flower arrangements she has inked on her arms from shoulder to wrist. I just don't get it.

It isn't my preference, and I would like to know the psychological reason for someone wanting tattoos, but, who am I to judge....do whatever makes you happy, and sometimes they can be tasteful. This does nothing for me personally:

Wow, $12k residual after 36 months? That’s Titanic level depreciation.
I have a feeling that the figures quoted (namely the residual) is wrong.
BTW I went looking to see what they were selling for around here and I couldn't find any. But I found a used 2018 for sale that had 46k miles on it.
Probably an ex rental with that mileage but I think he was talking about the electric version.

I know he was talking about the electric version, as I said in my post I couldn't find one but looking for it I found the 46k mile one. I don't think it was a rental as it is rather miles up even for a rental. My guess is that it was being used either as a delivery vehicle or a taxi/uber.

Ink used to have negative connotations. Today? It’s a way to make your own personal statement about yourself. Time was, you had to travel to the sleazy part of town to get tattoos. I see them all over the place now. Plus, mostly the tattoo artists are really good at their craft.
For good or ill, I have a friend who is a huge Cincinnati Bengals fan, through thick and thin. He has a beautiful Bengal Tiger tattoo on his left shoulder.
My quasi girlfriend has ink, albeit in an area that’s not readily visible.
My son’s GF has a tattoo in a more visible area.
I’ve actually thought about getting one. I’m too much of a chicken, though. Never know, however!

Ah, the perils of FB automotive groups...
I agree with you opinion of body art but I have learned that to point it out is usually not taken well. Conversely, to post scantily clad pictures of your girlfriend so adorned and then objecting to people’s opinion is downright dumb.
Note to AB: Please pass on the pictures to us so we can judge for ourselves.
It isn't my preference, and I would like to know the psychological reason for someone wanting tattoos, but, who am I to judge....do whatever makes you happy, and sometimes they can be tasteful.
This does nothing for me personally:
I had a female cousin inked up like that. She got them in her early twenties and when she passed away in her mid fifties they didn't look nearly as good. Two real big issues with tattoos is that as you age your skin streaches and says distorting the tattoo, gaining and or losing weight makes it worse. secondly your body's immune system will try to rid itself of the tattoo, it might be a few decades before you notice anything but it will start to degrade the tattoo. The two combined will not be kind to that lady when she gets older.

I wouldn't say the best half of its life has been sucked out, it likely has several good years or normal driving left in it it it hasn't been really abused. I would say that half of the nest part of its life has been used.

Guys, thank you for your kind and heartfelt thoughts. It really helps to be able to share the sorrow, and your comments are touching and mean a lot. I would love to reply to each individually, but I really thank you.

I'm saddened to hear about Gigi. A friend had a dog who developed cancer in what now sounds like the same way. She was suffering before Frances had to put her loving companion to sleep and out of her misery.
After a time maybe you might check into rescuing one of the many dogs in shelters who are looking for a loving home.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
In Cincinnati there's City Council problem where 5 or the members were texting each other and doing council business out of public view.
There is no privacy.

I have saved your comments, I copied and pasted them into My Documents, they mean a lot to me and Mrs D. I told Mrs D I didn't really expect a response but it was way beyond what I ever imagined. We both truly thank you.

I think I was in 5th grade when I first head an axiom credited to Ben Franklin who said, "two people can keep a secret but only if one of them is dead". I've never forgotten that axiom and I still believe it. People have made the internet a very scary thing but you can't blame the guy that invented it.

May 2016 Lemon Law Sticker Survey

My son's girlfriend has a fair amount of tattoos. When he introduced her to my mom, she was a bit shocked by it. Now that they've been together a while, she has gotten past the ink and realizes she is a warm, sweet person who is a great companion for my son.
