Wegmans is good and Publix is always voted #1 in this area. I'm not sure why people shop at rival Wynn Dixie, maybe because they don't have as many customers.

I don't like how the supermarkets do this buy 1 get one free, I don't need 2 bags of salad, or 2 packages of tomatoes, or 2 dozen eggs......just give me 25% off on what I do need!

Once at Publix we wanted to buy cannolis and the bake shop was out of them. The manager of the bake shop said go get your other groceries for 20 minutes and I will bake you some fresh ones. They were still hot, when we got them....and they were delicious. Now that is service!

Publix prices are 20% higher than Walmart on most groceries.  But the cleanliness of Publix aisles and the superb produce department coupled with the great service makes it worth the difference in price.

Ty, thanks once again for the explanations...........well done and I think I could drive one now. Still not ready to buy, distance anxiety is a big factor, and a feeling of.....why change now, I like what I have?
You’re welcome Driver.  Range anxiety can be a real thing for folks new to electric.  For us we’re only using about 10% of our range on a daily basis, so we don’t even charge much.  We’ll take our first long trip late spring.

But to say "solar can't be taken seriously by anyone with an IQ over 70" is simple ignorance. A house with solar panels, especially in SREC states, is quite effective and economical as a supplemental source.
There's an awesome NOVA show on Netflix right now, "Search for the Super Battery". If you haven't seen it yet and have an opportunity to do so, I recommend it.
Just finished watching that Nova documentary - excellent.  Thanks for the heads-up, tyguy!
I’m really glad you liked it.  I was pretty excited about the possibiies after watching it.

If it costs me $10 to $20 more to shop at Publix over Wallymart........it is well worth it to me. There is a much better chance my car won't get dinged at Publix for one thing, and a much better shopping experience.

We will go to Walmart but only if we need several things from different departments, like light bulbs, markers, furnace filter, tennis balls......might get some grocery items that may cost a fair bit less, but, not going to break me. Besides, there are lots of things Wallymart doesn't have as they just carry the high volume merchandise....not too much specialty stuff.

I’m with you there, Mike.  There’s a Walmart close to us, but we rarely shop there for groceries because the selection and quality don’t match other options.

I haven’t noticed that the center consoles on most cars interfere with my leg but I have noticed that the arm rest in some cars makes it hard to move my left leg as much as I’d like. Poor ergonomics in my opinion. I’ve driven all the cars on your list except the Accord and haven’t noticed any problem.

I think we have discussed everything else here except the size of consoles ST. Are you tall, or extra wide, bow legged? (just joking gang ;) ) I have driven in a few cars and I never found the console to be a problem....the one in my E400 is pretty wide but I never thought about it. I guess that is why some people buy 330s and some buy C Class or an A4.

I have, and I have mentioned it before in these forums. My right knee is a TNR (Total Knee Replacement), and I have to be able to stretch it out, move it around, put it in different positions. The Accord and the Maxima didn’t bother me that badly with the center console, but you can’t get an Accord with nice equipment without a sunroof, and you can’t get a Maxima without a sunroof, period.

The Honda Ridgeline is a prime example of a vehicle I eliminated the first time I tried sitting in one. Huge center console. Likewise the Chrysler 300.

I’m terrible at remembering names, we used to have a moderator here in these very forums – an older gentleman, lived out in New Mexico, drove a minivan. He also was an outspoken critic of oversize center consoles.

I, too hate oversized consoles.  I once test drove a Ford Taurus a couple of years ago and found that the console was not only overly wide but was so confining because it totally isolated the two front seats like a cockpit in a small plane.  The console started high up on the dashboard and swooped down between the front seats.  I felt claustrophobic.

The console in my S450 is wide, but the car itself is very wide which makes up for it.  The seats are also extra wide which makes the seats quite comfortable.  What I like about the front seats is the automatic seat boosters which activate when making a turn.  The right bolster activated on left turns and the left bolster activates on right turns holding you in position so as not to slide in your seat.  The sharper the turn, the more the bolster activates.  Nice feature.

The only car that I can recall testing/driving that I felt had an overly large center console was the current Ford Taurus. The console simply took up too much room in the car and the driver's footwell was extremely cramped. I was over 100 lbs larger then, so it may not be as bad now... but my feet are still size 12s and I could never be happy with that aspect of the car.

Everything else has been fine. My Enclave has a giant console too, but the foot well is very roomy.

I wear size 16EEEE shoes, so I need a big footwell. Usually not a problem, but occassionally ...

The 2008 Passat had the brake pedal too close to the gas pedal which was too close to the center hump. Probably great for a heel-and-toe maneuver if you had a standard transmission, but my right foot would somctimes get caught when I was trying to lift it from the gas to move to the brake.

You got me thinking and yes, some Fords I’ve driven are cramped but not on the right. I think it was an Explorer or Escape that had such an intrusion from the front wheel well that I couldn’t put my left foot down. I had to wedge it in near the break pedal, not a good thing.

One thing I don’t like about my Mustang is that aforementioned arm rest that prevents “man spreading” as they call it. I suppose other cars have the same space limitations on the right.

I can see the email you're getting from the bowlegged support PC folks. Just kidding. The friend who tried, tried to teach me to be a golfer was bowlegged. After he had retired he had to have knee replacement, but they only put in an artificial knee on one part of his knee because the other part of the joint hadn't carried the load that the inner portion of the knee joint carried. He had a super quick recovery because there was less done to both knees in the process. His was the first knee replacement among friends of mine. A learning experience. BTW, I never was any good at golf. I did enjoy the beautiful views on some of the golf courses.

A guy I play tennis with gets a new Ford every 6 months....he was a big wheel at Head Office (Canada) so his freebie has been grandfathered in for life. Once he got a new Taurus, I was surprised at the height of the console, I think it is good if you have lots of arguments with your partner or wife.....you feel very separated...it is like a wall. The footwell area is really small too, and the whole interior looks dark because so little light comes in the small windows.

No wonder Ford is in trouble, the exec gets a free car to use for about 30 years.

The police locally have been using the Taurus as their main cruiser. With it going out of production they are evaluating Explorers (of which they already have several) versus Chargers (though I wonder how long that will stay in production). There has been some commentary locally that they are glad to be leaving the Taurus behind because they are so tight inside, especially with all the extra stuff cruisers get equipped with these days.

I know it must be be difficult to always be extra careful what you are doing etc if one is a woman, but she has a great neurosis about being near any man, and she seems to be afraid of all men.

I know you weren’t offended, I just wanted to throw in another male transgression that is currently in vogue.

One thing I don’t like about my Mustang is that aforementioned arm rest that prevents “man spreading” as they call it. I suppose other cars have the same space limitations on the right.
Man spreading.........I am afraid to ask :s

You should be afraid. Some people are serious about this. I understand it’s a crime in Belgium.

Does being polite and not taking up two seat widths worth of space have to be “in vogue”? Public transportation is crowded enough. It’s only fair to make as much room available as possible.

Of course not but taking minor social annoyances and making them into an anti-male political issue or a crime is just silly. Not to mention the ignoring of physiological differences which cause the issue in the first place. Imagine if we made talking on the phone while driving a bias issue because one sex does it more than the other.

The shame of it is that common courtesy is one of the traditions that’s gone out of vogue.

    Ok, off my soapbox now.

Say, has anyone heard about a Kia program called “You pay the same”? One local dealer has it which is a $500 discount. This is addition to a $2000 cash rebate. All this is deducted from invoice which is $1100 off MSRP.

All the other Kia dealers only offer the standard Kia $2000 cash. If this is legit, the one dealer is at least $1600 less than the others.

The only info about this pay the same program on line is this:

“All Customers are eligible for the program, upon request.

The Customer chooses an eligible, new MY17, MY18 or MY19 vehicle from the dealer’s stock and asks to purchase the car under the “You Pay the Same” program.

If a dealer wishes to make the sale under the Program terms and conditions, the dealership sets the price of the vehicle based on dealer invoice and then reduces that price by (i) current Customer Cash and Specialty Incentives (if applicable), and (ii) applicable Supplemental of $500 for MY17, MY18 or MY19 vehicles available only in connection with the Program.

Note: If a customer requests a purchase under the Program and your dealership agrees to make the sale on the Program terms, the customer is not eligible for a KMA Low APR/Lease program for the sale.

The following terms and conditions govern each dealership’s participation in the “You Pay the Same for Your New Kia as a KMA Team Member” Program (the “Program”).

Dealer participation in the Program is voluntary. If a customer requests the terms available under the Program, it is the dealer’s option whether to agree to the sale on those terms.

All Customers are eligible for this program, provided, however, that a sale made under the Program is not eligible for the KMA Low APR/Lease program”

    I’m looking for the catch.

I could easily be be misunderstanding the ad.....I am not good at this stuff. But, it sounds to me like all dealers will give you $1100 off MSRP plus $2000 cash rebate.....and the one dealer is offering an additional $500 discount on top of that. This is if the dealer you go to is participating. Is this on 2018s because that would be a big discount on 2019s?

Sounds like a good deal.....time to see what they would give you for the PT....maybe pick up a Stingray. :p

Just started watching the first episode of “House of Cards” with Kevin Spacey on Netflix.  What a great show!  Spacey is some actor - BUT - his personal interactions as evidenced by his legal entanglements does put a questionable damper on things, so to speak.

    It’s still a great series!

Actually, this is the only dealer discounting from invoice. In addition they mention this extra $500 off. The rest are discounting $2000 from MSRP and make no mention of the $500.

This is the dealer with the suspiciously good deal.

    https://www.garveykia.com/VehicleDetails/new-2019-Kia-Soul-+_Auto-Queensbury-NY/3337766413

As far as I can tell that price is about $1600 less than local dealers. Shocking that a dealer would tell you his invoice and discount from there.

    That’s why I’m suspicious.

As for the PT, that’s going to my son in a few months, sooner if I get a deal I can’t resist. I won’t trade because that kind of car is worthless to a dealer.

I don’t need a Stingray, with the mods on the Mustang it’s putting out about the same as a base Corvette.

Are you watching because of the stir caused by Spacey’s Christmas video? Very bizarre.
