I agree, there is a catch but I don't know what it is. I think the $1100 off MSRP and $2000 cash are coming from the manufacturer, and the dealer is offering the extra $500 off. It is a 2019, but the price is $18000 still so maybe that is a base model, and they have to move inventory especially before the end of the year.

I see why you are saving the PT....good move, and the Stinger isn't really the kind of car you need, but you were considering a Soul.

OF, another thing about that Soul deal, who really knows what MSRP and invoice prices really are?
    MSRP
    $22,050
    Invoice Price
    $20,900
I assume that would mean the dealer should under normal conditions make $1150 on this car. It is the end of the year so the dealer may be able to make more on bonus's than on the actual cars sold.....if they can meet certain quotas.

It’s the end of December. They want to move cars. Any of the dealers will be fighting for the deal. If one is doing it the others will too. The fine print though might be “ dealer list” which can include add on accessories.

That dealers Hyundai store in Queensbury is where my son gets his genesis tomorrow.

I am a little rushed (have to get to pickleball) but you can get a new 2018 Soull for $16297

    MSRP $18,870

    Dealer Discount $2,573
    Pay $16,297
    MSRP
    $22,050
    Invoice Price
    $20,900
Why would a 2019 have MSRP of $22050?

I had seen that posted elsewhere. We have a large office in Mississauga. Every time I go there, every lunch conversation ends up being about real estate up there. Crazy. If any of you came down to where @kyfdx and I live, you’d forget about warm weather and sea shores, because you could live in a castle with servants around here for that kind of money.

I went down a rabbit hole of LA real estate the other day, specifically high-end LA real estate. It is simply bizarre. In Bel Air and other parts of Beverly Hills, developers are buying already-expensive houses that have some age on them, tearing them down and building new usually modern-architecture spec houses that sell for multi-millions. This is one example:

    https://www.coldwellbankerhomes.com/ca/los-angeles/1979-stradella-rd/pid_27985268/

Previously this was a 1969-vintage modern architecture house, not particularly charming to look at, but nothing close to this size and class.

There are others, some of them lived in for a short time, in the $20 million range. Others are more historic:

    https://www.coldwellbankerhomes.com/ca/los-angeles/2607-glendower-ave/pid_25804564/

Or you can buy the lot across the street from the Beverly Hillbillies mansion for $20 million. Not grand enough? Why not buy the mansion itself for $245 million?

    https://www.coldwellbankerhomes.com/ca/los-angeles/875-nimes-rd/pid_27440683/

Yeah, some of them are quite austere. I looked at a couple where the interiors were all white, both walls and floors, with very few accents, and they seemed like corporate lobbies. It gets made worse when the spaces are very large and open. This is the living/dining area of a 1962 mid-century house on N. Hillcrest offered for $18 million which has been renovated. It looks like they furnished a gymnasium.

    https://www.coldwellbankerhomes.com/ca/beverly-hills/1107-n-hillcrest-rd/pid_27860318/

The odd thing about some of these places is that they are located in subdivisions that were built in the '60s through the early '80s which have typical houses you'd expect to find in such developments that aren't nearly so grand or worth anywhere near that much. I wonder what it must be like to drop $20 mil on one of these places and drive to and from it through a neighborhood full of relatively normal folks.

I mentioned the empty lot across the street from Chartwell (the Beverly Hillbillies mansion) offered for $19.9 million. It is/recently was a vineyard for the mansion. Why they wanted their own vineyard is anyone's guess, but now it is going away. The really interesting thing was that the listing for the lot indicated some odd information, like the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. But there is nothing on it except grapevines. Turns out it used to be the site of a fairly interesting Tudor-style house built in the 1930s. Among other notables, it was lived in by Nelson Eddy, John and Michelle Phillips of Mamas and Papas fame, and Sly Stone. At some point it got sold to the owner of the mansion and it was demolished.

I went to one of those modernist palaces a few years back with a friend. We were in Aspen and my friend is himself quite wealthy. So we walk into this gigantic, sterile, dark place and he says (way too loud I might add)..."Well, well....welcome to the Temple of Karnak!"

We got a lot of cold stares.

    Dealer Discount$2,582
    Internet Price$16,723

For innovation, yes. For build quality at the price, not a chance IMO. If I were my friend, who just took delivery, I wouldn't have accepted the car for delivery as it was presented. Maybe if it were a Mitsubishi, I would have.

His response: "Oh, they said they'd fix everything".

It occurred to me that the reason for the one car I posted being so much less than other dealers’ comparable new vehicles is that they are demos. Still sold as new they might have thousands of miles on them.

While browsing at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, Mass today I came across a group promoting electric and hybrid cars. Among them was a 2018 Chevy Bolt on display offered by Quirk Chevrolet for $19,995. Here are the details:

    MRSP (including delivery) $37,495
    Dealer Discount.................  (7,500)
    State Incentive...................  (2,500)
    EV Tax credit......................  (7,500)
       Net cost..........................$19,995

Lease for just $245 a month with $2,500 down at signing. No other lease details were provided.

For taking the time to chat with them they gave me a copy of Electric Car Insider Magazine. It features all electric and hybrid-electric cars on the market today. (www.electric-car-insider.com)

What do you guys think, is this a good deal? And by the Bolt has a 238 mile EV range; LWH:164" x 69.5" x 62.8"

The best way to see the problem is to compare left door with right door, or left side of hood with right side. It can be off 2-3 mm sometimes.

Lots of orange peel in the paint, which is just not acceptable on a car of this price. I can understand scratches and chips during shipping, but some of these were through the clearcoat.

Sure it's nitpicking but you know, $57,000 for a car--it should be lookin' good right out of the box.

    Dealer Discount.................  (7,500)
    State Incentive...................  (2,500)
    EV Tax credit......................  (7,500)
       Net cost..........................$19,995

Lease for just $245 a month with $2,500 down at signing. No other lease details were provided.

For taking the time to chat with them they gave me a copy of Electric Car Insider Magazine. It features all electric and hybrid-electric cars on the market today. (www.electric-car-insider.com)

What do you guys think, is this a good deal? And by the Bolt has a 238 mile EV range; LWH:164" x 69.5" x 62.8"

The issue with the EV tax credit is that not everyone will get the full $7,500. It's a nonrefundable credit that doesn't carry forward so If your tax liability is less than $7,500 you won't get the whole credit. Plus you have to wait until you file your taxes to get it.

I’d verify those tax credits as they apply to you personally but if you want a hybrid electric it seems a bargain.

    @oldfarmer50,
I didn't check how much the doc fee is. ;)

Isn’t CT capped at $150 or am I thinking of some other state?

Oops, I was wrong, CT has no limit with fees averaging $119 to $499 according to various sources. NY is limited to $75.

That’s why you won’t see too many old farmers plowing with electric tractors. :'(

Farmer, yes he is getting a G70. But if you spy you will only see Stick Jr. I am now back home in NJ so he is doing it on his own.

A close friend mine has a Bolt and he loves it. He does real estate appraisal and drives a lot of miles; he has something like 32K miles in a year and a half. It replaced a Golf TDI and to hear him tell it, the fuel savings are noteworthy. Still, we have really low electric rates in WA, so YMMV. He seems to get more like 260-280 miles of range.
