I don't act like a hooligan very much in the ATS due to the maturity of my advancing years, but I do use the power responsibly from time to time. I suspect this is universal, but here on our major multi-lane roads I often see a herd mentality, where someone usually in a Corolla or an Accent is leading a long conga line of cars all just under the speed limit, with everyone behind them seemingly happy to trundle along as part of the pack. In those cases I will quickly boot it past them all before slowing to a more acceptable speed once back in the travel lane. The other thing I do is when on a reasonably long merge lane I will zip it to something well above the going speed of the traffic I am merging into to find a clear spot before coasting back down to the prevailing rate of travel once safely merged, which seems to baffle many who enjoy not moving over to allow merging traffic in. Both responsible uses of power!

Had to wind the TLX out a lot yestreday! For inexplicable reasons, everyone seemed to drive like they were encased in molasses. Stopped at Costco for gas. Of course I pulled behind the one person who seemed to be incapable of operating the gas pump. I “politely” tried to offer assistance so the long line behind me could move along, but the old codger not only refused my help. But, he also insisted on trying to use a MasterCard when the pump clearly stated VISA only. Finally, I got the attendant to come over to explain what I had been explaining to him.

In NY to drop the insurance you have to turn in the plates and reregister and reinspect when you put it back on the road. The hassle isn’t worth the 4 months savings.

In the past when I had two farm trucks I would just switch the plates between them summer and winter and pay about 10 bucks for the paperwork.

He probably didn’t trust some young hot rod whipper snapper to know what he was talking about.

I had a similar experience behind an elderly lady. I always pay cash for gas so they punish me by requiring me to go in and pre pay. I got in line behind a woman that couldn’t remember her PIN number and couldn’t push the buttons fast enough before the terminal timed out. By the time some young guy stepped up and offered to help there was a line out the door.

BTW, isn’t the term Emeritus synonymous with old codger?

That is too bad OF. When we are in Canada the Florida car goes on minimum insurance, and when we are in Florida the E400 goes on minimal insurance. Is it a state law or an insurance company thing?

I do the same ab but like I said I got one of my few speeding tickets that way. Behind 2 trucks that blocked I-75 for about 20 minutes...the guy in the left lane couldn't get by the guy in the right. There were about 20 cars behind me. He finally gave up, moved to the right, I just wanted to get by these two morons, floored it and moved to the right to slow down and let all the cars behind get through, and there was the cop hiding in the bushes.......got me going 95 mph. I didn't feel like driving back to Tennessee to fight it!

I believe he was suggesting to decrease to absolute minimum insurance while in hibernation, not cancel the insurance altogether.

I was under the impression that the transmission in my GM Malibu is Aisin. Same transmission is in the Cruze I owned that my son now owns. T45. It may have a GM corporate ID but it's an Aisin transmission. I do not know about the latest generation of Cruze. Where did the cruze in his picture get the shoulder deco behind the front wheels?

Ha ha, that’s funny. Scotty is a bit of a nut but he was right about Nissan CVTs. I guess they had so many failures Nissan had to give a replacement warranty up to 120k miles.

They could ... but if you were shady you could take the money out of the account after they verified.  

won't work. When you get the certified check, the money is taken out of your account then. so if the dealer verifies it is good, it really means the bank will honor it from their funds, not your account. at least that is how I thin it works!

My insurance offers a decreased premium if the vehicle sits dormant for the months of December through February,  no call necessary and I still have full coverage. That works perfectly for the Prelude which will stay garaged until late March.

Reverse when we are in Florida, my home car is covered for damage while sitting in the garage. Whether the car is paid for or not...it is still covered for comprehensive.

Good question and I don't know the answer. I would make sure before I tried it. Comprehensive isn't that expensive, and I think home owners insurance may only cover the home itself. Also, would homeowners cover you if someone stole your car, did considerable damage to your car and left it somewhere?
Questions questions....so many questions. I wouldn't fool around when it comes to insurance, though you would be surprised at how many people show up on the judges shows....who don't have insurance - and I wonder how stupid can you be?

Well it has a gearbox, so it "winds out" just like a regular engine. I don't recall but perhaps the electric motor had an RPM limiter. If unregulated, a electric motor will run to destruction, won't it?

To me, driving an EV is like driving any quiet automatic car. I don't get a lot of jollies out of it. There is the thrill of acceleration but I find the experience curiously disconnected from audio and tactile sensations. Certainly the EV is quite practical for certain situations. If I were a commuter on my way to a cubicle where I would spend the rest of my life, I'd probably find it relaxing.

I think my latest homeowners renewal specifically mentioned something about vehicle not being covered under homeowners claims.
I know my vehicles with a loan require liability and collision with a max $500 deductible.

Simply put: no. Homeowners insurance policies expressly exclude motorized vehicles from their contents coverage, though exceptions are made for certain kinds of vehicles, such as lawnmowers and snow blowers.

Coverage for damages to your car, in this case, would need to be handled by your auto insurance and would require that you have comprehensive (also called “other than collision”) insurance included as part of your policy. If you have only purchased coverage at the state-mandated minimums, you will not have this extra insurance and will not be able to get compensation for your loss.

BTW...the writer of the answer above says that is a good reason why it is a good idea to have your car and home insurance covered by the same company.....so nothing falls through the cracks.

When we leave one place we email or call our insurance company to put the car on liability or take it off. If you leave the car in the garage for months, fire is one thing, but, you also want to be covered in case of theft etc.

I'm going to get a little picky about this.

Your idea could have been brilliant if you didn't say "stator shaft". First of all there is no such thing as a "stator shaft" in a motor. Maybe you just meant to say "stator". But then you would have been wrong about that too because the "stator" is the stationary part of a motor and it does not spin. You probably meant to say "armature" because the "armature" is the part of the motor that spins. Therefore, anything attached to it will also spin; like pulleys, fan blades, generators, etc. and even a stylus.

Like I said, I'm picky about this kind of stuff and any of my old professors would fail me if I didn't point out the misuse of motor parts. As it was, I just squeaked by but I do remember some of my motor/generator classes along with learning Ohms Theory.

Please don't hate me for this tutorial session.

Taking my truck in for a recall on the tail gate - There is a part that can break and the tail gate will drop open. I just installed a dash cam that records while parked/off ( it has a voltage cut off so as to not drain the battery) and I am wondering if I should leave it on, or turn it off before drop off - any suggestions?

The Chevy Volt already makes a weird sci-fi old school Star Trek sound, and the exact noise an EV will make seems to be up to the manufacturer. Seems like a great opportunity to customize one aspect of an EV.

And no, I definitely don't miss the engine sounds when driving my Tesla.

I'd leave it on but I'd hank a note on the shut off switch that says, "CAUTION: Do Not Touch This Switch. Doing so will expose you to10 million Ohms".

Does it record sound inside the trucks cabin? If it does turn it off, if it doesn't record interior sound keep it on. the reason for this is if you are recording someone at the very least you need the permission of one person being recorded. So if the mechanic gets in your truck alone it cannot be recording unless he has your permission or at least is aware of the recording.
